CollectA New for 2021 Models (Part 3) Video

Having posted up information about the latest batch of new for 2021 prehistoric animal models to be introduced by CollectA, team members put together a video review for Everything Dinosaur’s YouTube channel.  The video review provides information about the new Age of Dinosaurs Popular Elasmosaurus, discusses the famous mistake made by the American palaeontologist Edward Drinker Cope and looks at the scientific evidence for giving this huge plesiosaur a tail fin (fluke).

The New Set of CollectA Mini Prehistoric Animal Models

As well as providing information on fossils relating to Xiphactinus and Elasmosaurus, the new for 2021 set of mini prehistoric animal models is also discussed.  This set will feature ten figures, nine of which are entirely new sculpts.  These models are great for use in prehistoric landscapes or dinosaur dioramas where they can represent juveniles or sub-adults.

A spokesperson from Everything Dinosaur commented:

“We aim to educate and inform with our CollectA model reviews.  Our intention is to provide some of the scientific information that is reflected in the figures.  For example, we examine amazing fossils showing the preserved remains of a victim entombed within the stomach cavity of a Xiphactinus audax specimen.  We discuss elasmosaurids and we provide pictures of plesiosaur tail bones that might indicate the presence of a tail fluke.  We have one more video to produce about new CollectA models for next year.  This video will be posted up on our YouTube channel next week.”

A Video Review of the New for CollectA Models (Part 2)

Everything Dinosaur has produced a short video review of the latest batch of new for 2021 prehistoric animal models to be introduced by CollectA.  On Friday, (13th November), Everything Dinosaur in collaboration with CollectA, announced a CollectA Deluxe 1:15 scale Pteranodon figure along with two Age of Dinosaurs Popular models – Megalosaurus in ambush and Neovenator scenting prey.

Team members have put up a ten minute video reviewing these new models, providing more details and outlining some of the scientific research that inspired their development.

CollectA Deluxe 1:15 Pteranodon Figure

The narrator discusses the new for 2021 CollectA Deluxe Pteranodon figure and highlights details of this revised and updated pterosaur model.  The presence of a tail tassel on the figure is discussed and viewers are shown a diagram of the bizarre tail bones (caudal vertebrae) of Pteranodon that led palaeontologists to conclude that it may have had some form of specialist structure on the end of its relatively long (for a member of the Pteranodontia), tail.  CollectA suggest a tail tassel which could be used in visual displays.  Other proposals include a rudder to help with steering in flight or even a fin to assist swimming when this flying reptile associated with marine environments, ditched in the sea.

Question of the Day

Viewers are asked to consider “what other pterosaur replicas would you like CollectA to make for their Deluxe or Supreme ranges?”  Feedback placed in the comments section would be passed to CollectA.

Two British Theropod Figures

The other figures featured are the two new theropods – Megalosaurus in ambush and Neovenator scenting prey.  It is great to see an updated version of the iconic Megalosaurus introduced.  As the narrator remarks in the video, the Reverend William Buckland would have been proud.  Sharp-eyed viewers will note that the teeth are not exposed in the closed mouth.  This CollectA model has been given lips (same with the new Neovenator replica).

The design team at CollectA have produced a Megalosaurus model based on the latest scientific thinking and that includes adding lips to their model in recognition of the debate with regards to oral tissues within the Theropoda.

Neovenator Scenting Prey

The CollectA Age of Dinosaurs Popular Neovenator sports a row of small, raised spines running the length of its body.  It also has a row of brown-coloured skin extensions from its lower jaw down its neck, these give the impression that it had a fleshy wattle as seen in many types of bird today.  The beautifully painted head complete with its yellow flashes is slightly elevated, as if the dinosaur is sniffing.  A scientific paper (Barker et al 2017), proposed that Neovenator had complex neurovascular canals in its snout.  Such structures are associated with a highly developed sense of smell.

CollectA wanted to reflect this research in their 2021 model, hence its full title “Neovenator scenting prey”.

New CollectA Models for 2021 Video Review

Everything Dinosaur has produced a video looking at the first three prehistoric animal models for 2021 to be announced by CollectA.  Having collaborated with CollectA on the media release that came out on Friday (6th November, 2020), Everything Dinosaur have produced a video review of the CollectA Deluxe Mamenchisaurus, along with the Kamuysaurus and the Brontosaurus prey (CollectA Age of Dinosaurs Popular range).

Everything Dinosaur’s Video Review

In Everything Dinosaur’s video review the narrator introduces each of the new figures in turn using the official images provided by CollectA.  Some of the science behind each of the new for 2021 models is highlighted.  For example, when discussing the CollectA Deluxe 1:100 scale Mamenchisaurus, the video looks at the fossil evidence for a tail club that is depicted on the CollectA figure.  Four fused vertebrae relating to a specimen of M. hochuanensis were discovered in 2001.  The uniformity of these fused caudal vertebrae led palaeontologists to conclude that these fused bones were not caused by disease or an injury to the animal.  Tail clubs have been reported in other Chinese sauropods including the closely related Omeisaurus.

The Unique Dinosaur Biota of Japan

In the section discussing the Japanese hadrosaurid Kamuysaurus, Everything Dinosaur examines the recent focus on the unique dinosaur biota of Japan by CollectA.  A model of Fukuiraptor was introduced in 2019 and earlier this year a 1:40 scale replica of Fukuisaurus was added to CollectA’s portfolio.  Although, as the narrator points out in Everything Dinosaur’s video review, Kamuysaurus evolved tens of millions of years after these two dinosaurs became extinct.

The Pathology on the CollectA Brontosaurus Prey Model

The injuries depicted on the CollectA Brontosaurus prey model reflect attack and feeding strategies that have been postulated for large theropod dinosaurs.  Our congratulations to the design team at CollectA for their skilful representation of a sauropod, attacked, weakened and ultimately dispatched by a large carnivore, or possibly a pack of large carnivorous dinosaurs.

Papo in Perspective – Video Review

Everything Dinosaur has worked with the French model and figure manufacturer Papo for many years.  In the UK-based company’s latest YouTube video, Everything Dinosaur, as one of the largest retailers of Papo prehistoric animal models, looks at the recently released Papo Giganotosaurus, explains how to acquire rare Papo models and provides two sure-fire tips to spot a genuine Papo seller.

Papo Models in Perspective – A Different Type of YouTube Video

Usually, when Everything Dinosaur creates a video, it is a review of a single prehistoric animal figure.  However, the latest video explains what it is like to work with a model making company.  The new for 2020 Papo Giganotosaurus model is discussed and shown in detail, information on how to pronounce Giganotosaurus (Gig-ah-note-oh-sore-us) is provided, guidance provided by the Society of Vertebrate Paleontology (SVP) is explained.

Tips on Finding Retired Models

The narrator discusses recent Papo model retirements and explains how Everything Dinosaur keeps the prices of out-of-production replicas reasonable so that collectors can acquire them without having to pay extortionate prices on other websites.  In addition, the narrator acknowledges that dinosaur fans like to get a good look at the actual figure rather than simply relying on the official images sent out by the manufacturer.

Everything Dinosaur’s dedicated team members post up lots of pictures and videos of the actual models on the company’s various social media pages including this blog (see below).

A spokesperson from Everything Dinosaur commented:

“We understand that model collectors and fans of the Papo range, like to see the figures themselves rather than rely solely on the official Papo images.  We take lots of photographs of the new models and figures in our own studio and produce some videos too.  This provides collectors with the opportunity to gain an impression of the actual models.  We also try to photograph new replicas next to other models from the same product range, by doing this, viewers can get a better understanding of the size and potential scale of any figure.”

How to Spot a Genuine Seller of Papo Models

In Everything Dinosaur’s Papo inspired video, we provide advice on how to spot a genuine Papo seller.  Unfortunately, this popular brand has led to a number of factories copying Papo model designs and offering poor quality figures via dubious websites that have left many model collectors out of pocket and disappointed.

Look for the Correct Papo Logo on Product Images

Everything Dinosaur Presents “Papo in Perspective”

The next YouTube video that Everything Dinosaur has planned is a perspective on how Everything Dinosaur works with the French model and figure manufacturer Papo.  Everything Dinosaur’s YouTube channel might have over 180 videos on it, but we have never before discussed in detail a single model making company in one of our videos.

Putting Papo Models in Perspective

Normally we focus on model and replica reviews and over the years we have posted dozens of videos dedicated to one Papo model or another.  However, let’s do something different and provide a perspective on some of their new for 2020 additions, consider potential retirements as well as revealing a sure-fire way to identify a legitimate Papo model supplier. In the video we take a detailed look at Papo models.

Providing Educational Video Reviews

At Everything Dinosaur, we hope to educate and inform when it comes to our video contents.  There are lots of model reviews to be found on YouTube, however, we are the only company of our kind with a very real insight into the model making industry as well as the palaeontology behind fossil finds.  You could say that Everything Dinosaur is uniquely placed to comment upon the science behind the design of prehistoric animal figures.  Our YouTube channel contains lots of helpful videos about prehistoric animal models and figures.  To visit our YouTube channel and to subscribe: Everything Dinosaur on YouTube.

The Question of the Day

In addition, to looking at Papo’s current crop of prehistoric animal figures, we know that model collectors will be eagerly anticipating new figures for 2021.  Manufacturers have the plans well advanced, but just for a bit of fun, we shall challenge our YouTube subscribers and video reviewers to come up with suggestions as to what replicas Papo ought to consider making in 2022.

A spokesperson from Everything Dinosaur commented:

” We always like to include a question or two in our video reviews and with our strong working relationship with Papo we thought it would be fun to challenge viewers to suggest what sort of figures Papo ought to make in 2022.  There are more than fifty models in the Papo Les Dinosaures range, although not all of them are dinosaurs.  There are certainly enough figures and replicas to inspire model collectors.  We look forward to reviewing the suggestions and to passing them onto our pals at Papo. Team members are big fans of Papo models.”

The New Rebor T. rex Carcass “Bites the Dust” Reviewed

By |2024-03-17T06:29:36+00:00October 6th, 2020|Adobe CS5, Dinosaur Fans, Everything Dinosaur Products, Everything Dinosaur videos, Main Page, Photos of Everything Dinosaur Products, Product Reviews|0 Comments

A Video Review of the Rebor T. rex Carcass Models “Bites the Dust”

With the recent arrival of the excellent Rebor Tyrannosaurus rex carcass models “Bites the Dust”, team members at Everything Dinosaur set about producing a video review of these 1:35 scale replicas and providing a guide to some of the science behind cannibalism in tyrannosaurs.  The YouTube video we subsequently created reviews both “plain” and “jungle” colour variants as well as discussing intraspecific competition, pathology on tyrannosaur fossils and examines the injuries preserved on two famous T. rex fossil specimens.

Pointing out the Pathology on the Rebor T. rex Carcass Models

As well as providing potential purchasers of a figure the opportunity to have a really good look at the model, at Everything Dinosaur, we try and build in a little bit of the science behind the study of prehistoric animals into our YouTube video reviews.  For example, in this video review we examine the evidence which suggests that tyrannosaurs engaged in face biting and that they would have competed with each other for finite resources such as hunting grounds, access to water and territory.

Our video review provides details of the injuries identified on two famous T. rex fossil specimens, interpreted as evidence of fights between members of this species.  We use our video review of the two “Bites the Dust” carcasses to point out some of the pathology associated with Tyrannosaurus rex fossil bones.

Using Rebor T. rex Models to Explain Intraspecific Competition

Building upon our objective of making videos that inform and educate, competition between members of the same species is examined and we look at the evidence that suggests that intraspecific competition, occurred in tyrannosaurs.  We utilise Rebor dinosaur models to illustrate how animals of the same species might come into conflict with each other.  The Rebor T. rex models, known as the “Killer Queen” figures make an appearance in the video review and the narrator comments on the similarity in the colour schemes between the “Bites the Dust” tyrannosaurs and the “Killer Queen” models.

CollectA Deluxe Lisowicia Video Review

CollectA Deluxe Lisowicia bojani Video Review

Everything Dinosaur has created a short video review of the new for 2020 CollectA Deluxe Lisowicia bojani model.  As well as reviewing the figure, we have provided an outline of some of the science behind the discovery and naming of this huge, Late Triassic dicynodont.  In the video, (it lasts just over ten minutes), we also discuss a “secret” Placerias replica and pose the question which prehistoric animal models would you put in a diorama with these two members of the Dicynodontia?

Everything Dinosaur’s Video Review of the CollectA Deluxe Lisowicia bojani Model (Dynamic Dicynodonts)

Video credit: Everything Dinosaur

A Dicynodont Duo

There are not that many dicynodont models made by mainstream manufacturers.  Creatures from the Triassic tend to be somewhat underrepresented in model ranges when compared to prehistoric animals that lived during the Jurassic or Cretaceous.  However, fans of the Dicynodontia have two protomammals to choose from.  There is the CollectA Deluxe Lisowicia bojani, which was introduced this year (2020) and an eye-catching Placerias replica to add to your collection.

A Dicynodont Duo – Lisowicia and Placerias

The CollectA Deluxe 1:20 scale Lisowicia bojani model can be found in this section of our website: CollectA Deluxe Prehistoric Life Models and Figures.

Model Measurements

In the short video review, we measure the two models and comment on their size and scale.  The CollectA Deluxe Lisowicia replica measures around nineteen centimetres in length, stands approximately 7 cm high at the shoulder and that high-arched back is more than 10 cm tall.  The Placerias figure, is smaller, it measures about 10 cm in length and it stands around 5 cm high.  The sizing is apt, as although Placerias was a large dicynodont, it would have been dwarfed by the elephant-sized Lisowicia, should a Placerias ever encounter one.

The CollectA Deluxe Lisowicia bojani Helping to Inform and Educate

One of the aims of our videos is to help explain some of the science behind the prehistoric animal that a particular figure might represent.  In our video review of the Lisowicia, we highlight where the fossils of this giant dicynodont were found and what other fossils were discovered in association with the remains.

Thanks to the thousands of bones that have been excavated from the Lisowicia dig site, researchers have been able to build up a comprehensive picture of the many different types of animals that co-existed with L. bojani.  For example, the narrator comments upon the discovery of the archosaur Smok wawelski and points out the difficulties in classifying this predator as either a member of the Theropoda or a rauisuchid – a diverse group of predatory archosaurs that sit on the crocodilian segment of the Archosauria family tree.

Preparing a Video Review of the CollectA 1:20 Scale Lisowicia

Everything Dinosaur has been busy planning a video review of the new for 2020 Lisowicia bojani 1:20 scale replica.  This eagerly anticipated prehistoric animal model has been in stock for a couple of weeks and it has been very well received by model collectors and fans of prehistoric animal replicas.  CollectA are to be praised for introducing a model of a Triassic giant, as Lisowicia had only been named and described in 2018.

Lisowicia bojani – A Member of the Dicynodontia

Lisowicia is the largest member of the Dicynodontia, a group of protomammals that originated in the Permian and persisted (in the case of Lisowicia, the youngest dicynodont to be described to date), into the Late Triassic of Europe.  The fossil remains of several individuals, found in clay pit in southern Poland are at least ten million years younger than any other member of the Dicynodontia.

Picking up a Placerias

Team members intend to provide information about the discovery of Lisowicia and its significance.  In addition, the video will also feature an inexpensive replica of Placerias (another dicynodont, but this time from North America).

A spokesperson from Everything Dinosaur commented:

“Our objective for the video is to showcase the new CollectA Lisowicia and to discuss dicynodonts in general.  The video will also permit us the chance to take a good look at the Placerias model we also offer.  This particular synapsid figure has proved to be very popular with model makers wanting to include a variety of Late Triassic fauna in dioramas.”

The Rebor X-REX Swarm (Plague Variant)

The video provides a quick run through on how to put together the Rebor Swarm model.  It is a fantastic replica, the second in this series to be introduced in 2020, following the launch of the Broodlord (metallic variant) in January (2020).  A total of four figures are scheduled, it had been proposed to introduce one new figure each quarter, but the global COVID-19 pandemic led to some unavoidable production delays.
