The next shipment of Beasts of the Mesozoic models is expected in early June.  A spokesperson for Everything Dinosaur, the UK-based specialist supplier of dinosaur models and figures confirmed that the next delivery was due to arrive in the first week of June. The Beasts of the Mesozoic range of figures is extremely popular.  Team members at Everything Dinosaur have been preparing email alerts to be sent to customers.  This shipment of articulated dinosaur models is eagerly anticipated.

Beautiful Beasts of the Mesozoic Models

This range of articulated prehistoric animal figures was introduced in 2018.  The first series focused on dromaeosaurs and their close relatives.  A range of ceratopsians was added in 2020.  In addition, the range has been extended to include more theropods and even some prehistoric mammals.  Recently, the Beasts of the Cenozoic figures were introduced.

The spokesperson confirmed that an area at the front of the warehouse had been cleared in preparation for the delivery.  This range is extensive, and care is required to make sure that all the models get stored in the correct place.  For example, there are two Utahraptor figures in this range.  In addition, there are two Smilodon models.

The spokesperson commented:

“Care is required to make sure that the stock gets stored in the correct place.  Each product has its own storage area in the warehouse. You require a degree of dinosaur knowledge to be able to sort all the models and to put them away in their allocated station.”

A shoulder height of 1.2 metres has been reported with weight estimates of more than four hundred kilogrammes. This species roamed South America during the Pleistocene Epoch. However, isolated populations could have survived into the Holocene. It is known from Bolivia, Venezuela, Brazil, Uruguay, Chile, Ecuador, Peru and also Argentina.

Helpful Advice and Information About Beasts of the Mesozoic Theropod Stands

By |2024-10-28T13:32:09+00:00October 28th, 2024|Beasts of the Mesozoic Models|0 Comments

Team members have created a short YouTube video about the new Beasts of the Mesozoic theropod display stands.  Two sizes of display stand have been made available.  There is the “large size”, this is suitable for the super-sized 1:18 scale T. rex figure. In addition, there is the “medium size”.  This size of display stand is suitable for use with the Beasts of the Mesozoic tyrannosaur figures.  For example, the Bistahieversor, Lythronax and Daspletosaurus models.

To help customers, we made a short video.  The video focuses on the “medium size” theropod display stands. However, the “large size” stands can be assembled in the same way.

The Beasts of the Mesozoic Theropod Display Stands

Our YouTube video lasts under three minutes. In the first part of the video, we explain about the new Beasts of the Mesozoic figures and the new stands.  We move onto examine the box contents.  Moreover, we highlight the two, round display bases and the foot pegs.  We then discuss how to assemble the stand, providing instructions and guidance.  Furthermore, we show how the cradle arm can be assembled.  Last but not least, we outline where these models and bases can be purchased.

The medium sized theropod display stands consist of five modular parts.  There are two, circular foot bases.  These have a diameter of approximately five and a half centimetres (two and a half inches).  The box also contains a body cradle, the cradle arm and the wedge that connects the base pieces together.  The large size theropod display stand box contains similar components.  However, these pieces are bigger, for example the diameter of the circular foot bases are nine centimetres (in excess of three inches across).

Beautiful Dinosaur Model Helps Out with a Dissertation

By |2024-09-24T22:26:06+01:00September 24th, 2024|Beasts of the Mesozoic Models|0 Comments

Our thanks to Olivia who sent into Everything Dinosaur some pictures of her Beasts of the Mesozoic Psittacosaurus model. Olivia has just completed a dissertation on dinosaur pigmentation and the study of melanosomes preserved in the fossil record. She works at the amazing Oxford University Museum of Natural History and the Museum has supported her research. The Psittacosaurus was used as a model to display for her EPQ presentation (Extended Project Qualification).  We are always pleased to hear from customers and, we are amazed at the adventures our prehistoric animal models have!

The Psittacosaurus Model and Countershading

Congratulations Olivia on completing your dissertation.  Olivia tells us her dissertation was entitled “Are fossilised pigments truly revolutionising our understanding of dinosaurs?”  The Psittacosaurus model is a great example of dinosaur colouration.  It displays countershading and it has been beautifully painted.

In 2016, a study which investigated the colour of Psittacosaurus was published in the journal “Current Biology”. This research (Vinther et al), focused on a remarkable Psittacosaurus specimen housed at the Senckenberg Museum of Natural History in Frankfurt. Team members at Everything Dinosaur have had the opportunity to view this astonishing fossil. The fossil preserves evidence of countershading. Melanosomes preserved in the fossil permitted scientists to recreate an accurate model of Psittacosaurus. Our chum Bob Nicholls was involved in casting a replica of Psittacosaurus and testing the effectiveness of the countershading as a form of camouflage.

Olivia is a Visitor Experience Assistant at the Oxford University Museum of Natural History.  It is a fantastic museum, and we recommend a visit.  We are delighted to hear that a Beasts of the Mesozoic Psittacosaurus model has helped illustrate some important aspects of research into the Dinosauria.

Mike from Everything Dinosaur commented:

“Thank you Olivia for sending into us photographs of your model at the Museum.  We congratulate you on completing your dissertation and we wish you continuing success with your research.”

An Exquisite Replica of a Large Dromaeosaurid

The new for 2024 Beasts of the Mesozoic Utahraptor is an exquisite model of a large dromaeosaurid dinosaur.  Mike from Everything Dinosaur explained that Utahraptor ostrommaysi was one of the biggest dromaeosaurs known to science.  The recently introduced Achillobator figure represents the largest dromaeosaurid known from Asia.

He commented:

“With the introduction of these replicas both representing very large dromaeosaurids, producing YouTube shorts about them feels like a juxtaposition.”

There are over two hundred and fifty videos and YouTube shorts on the Everything Dinosaur YouTube channel.

New Achillobator Model YouTube Short

By |2024-07-15T20:25:54+01:00July 11th, 2024|Beasts of the Mesozoic Models|0 Comments

With the arrival of the new for 2024 Beasts of the Mesozoic Achillobator giganticus figure, team members at Everything Dinosaur took the opportunity to create a short video.  The very first series of these articulated dinosaur figures featured dromaeosaurids.  It is wonderful to see new members of the Dromaeosauridae added to this range.  Achillobator (A. giganticus) is the largest known dromaeosaur from Asia.  Our YouTube short highlights the figure, shows the packaging and mentions our free Achillobator fact sheet that is sent out to our customers.

Video credit: Everything Dinosaur

The video is under thirty seconds in length.  It begins with Mike from Everything Dinosaur sitting in the company’s huge warehouse surrounded by boxes of dinosaur models.  Views of the Achillobator and its packaging are provided.  This YouTube short concludes with Mike holding the free Achillobator giganticus fact sheet that is supplied with purchases.

Visit the Everything Dinosaur YouTube channel: Dinosaur Videos and Prehistoric Animal Model Reviews.

The Achillobator giganticus Figure

Scientifically described in 1999 (Perle et al), Achillobator represents the first and largest dromaeosaurid known from the Bayan Shireh Formation of Mongolia.  Not all the skeleton is known.  However, based on the holotype and subsequent fossil discoveries, this theropod measured around five metres in length.  It was robustly built and probably weighed in excess of three hundred kilograms.  That is heavier than a male Siberian tiger, one of the largest and most formidable terrestrial carnivores around today!

An Impressive Articulated Theropod Model

The Beasts of the Mesozoic Achillobator giganticus figure is articulated. It has twenty-three points of articulation, permitting the model to be displayed in a variety of poses. The Achillobator is supplied with interchangeable feet, a flexible tail and a display base. The Beasts of the Mesozoic Achillobator giganticus includes posing rod accessories and a clear, plastic display base. We were most impressed with the artwork on the packaging. The illustrations are stunning.

It measures thirty-eight centimetres in length (approximately fifteen inches). The model has a declared scale of 1:18.

Mike from Everything Dinosaur congratulated the design team and praised their efforts stating:

“The model is beautiful and extremely detailed.  The colour scheme for this Late Cretaceous predator model was inspired by the extant California condor.”
