The New Nanuqsaurus Model Photographed in the Studio

By |2025-04-23T17:43:18+01:00April 23rd, 2025|Wild Safari Prehistoric World|0 Comments

April the 23rd is St George’s day. Saint George is the patron saint of England. Indeed, he is the patron saint of several countries. For example, Malta and Portugal. St George was not English. He is perhaps most famous for slaying a dragon. There is a school of thought that suggests fossilised dinosaur bones were the inspiration for dragons.  We thought it appropriate considering the date that we would post up a picture of a dinosaur.  The recently introduced Wild Safari Prehistoric World Nanuqsaurus figure was close to hand.  So, we photographed it in honour of St George.

A photograph of the Wild Safari Prehistoric World Nanuqsaurus hoglundi dinosaur model photographed in the studio on St George’s Day.  The figure is leaning forward, we could imagine that this polar tyrannosaur was facing a knight mounted on his steed charging towards it. The Wild Safari Prehistoric World Nanuqsaurus

The Nanuqsaurus model is leaning forward. Its cavernous jaws are open.  It is quite easy to imagine this Late Cretaceous tyrannosaur figure facing a shining knight in armour as a child recreates St George’s battle with a dragon.  Not sure how the knight would fare.  After all, Nanuqsaurus hoglundi could be much bigger than previously thought.  Originally considered a “pygmy” tyrannosaur when first described, due to the presumed lack of food resources at high latitudes, some scientists now believe that this theropod was actually much larger.  Could Nanuqsaurus have been around the same size as Daspletosaurus?

No matter the size of the tyrannosaur this figure represents, it is a detailed model, beautifully painted and ideal for robust, creative play.  The model is well suited to the rough and tumble of a joust with a knight or two.

Dragons and Dinosaurs Blurring the Distinction

Team members recall seeing many examples of illustrations in schools where the boundary between a dragon and a dinosaur has been blurred.  Artwork produced by children as part of a topic exploring rocks and fossils often depicts dinosaurs.  However, some of these drawings and crafts blur the boundary between depicting a dinosaur and a fantastical dragon to some extent.  In the minds of some children, it can be hard to distinguish them apart.  After all, in movies dinosaurs and dragons are both, very often depicted as frightening and fearsome monsters.

Hands inspire dinosaur artwork in school.

A “handy” way to create a prehistoric animal in the classroom. Everything Dinosaur team members recall seeing many pieces of art created by schoolchildren that blur the distinction between dragons and the Dinosauria. Picture credit: Everything Dinosaur.

Mike from Everything Dinosaur commented:

“Children might confuse a dragon depicted in a storybook and a dinosaur because both are large, reptilian creatures often portrayed in fantastical settings.  To a young child this might make them seem similar in appearance and nature.”

Wild Safari Prehistoric World Figures

This range consists of a wide variety of prehistoric animals. There are dinosaur models and pterosaurs. In addition, this range has some beautiful prehistoric mammal figures.  Both the new Therizinosaurus and the Saltasaurus have been eagerly awaited.  We first saw the Therizinosaurus model more than a year ago.  Team members were given the opportunity to view an early prototype of the proposed figure.

Model Measurements

Neither figure has a declared scale.  However, we can confirm that the Therizinosaurus model measures a fraction under seventeen centimetres in length. That impressive head is around sixteen and a half centimetres off the ground.  In contrast, the titanosaur figure (Saltasaurus) measures twenty-eight centimetres long.  The head height of the Saltasaurus is just under ten centimetres.

New Wild Safari Prehistoric World Armoured Dinosaurs in Stock

By |2024-05-30T22:15:05+01:00May 30th, 2024|Everything Dinosaur Products, Wild Safari Prehistoric World|0 Comments

The new for 2024 Wild Safari Prehistoric World Kentrosaurus and Stegouros armoured dinosaur models have arrived.  These two armoured dinosaur figures are now in stock at Everything Dinosaur.  It is wonderful to see new models representing diverse members of the Thyreophora introduced by Safari Ltd.  Kentrosaurus is from the Late Jurassic of Africa whilst Stegouros is known from the Late Cretaceous of South America.

The Wild Safari Prehistoric World Kentrosaurus

Safari Ltd have included a Kentrosaurus model in their product range in the past.  In 2010, a predominately green Kentrosaurus figure was added to the range.  In 2013, this small figure was retired.  The new for 2024 Kentrosaurus has a very different colour scheme.  It is a vivid electric blue with darker blue tones combined with warm amber colours.  The Wild Safari Prehistoric World Kentrosaurus model measures around twelve centimetres in length.

The Wild Safari Prehistoric World Stegouros Dinosaur Model

Stegouros (S. elengassen) was named in 2021 (Soto-Acuña et al). It was a very small ankylosaur, with an estimated body length of less than two metres.   A spokesperson from Everything Dinosaur praised the design team at Safari Ltd for their excellent Stegouros figure.

The spokesperson also praised Safari Ltd for recreating an accurate tail club on their Stegouros figure.

The spokesperson added:

“We welcome these two, new armoured dinosaur figures.  Although both Stegouros and Kentrosaurus were members of the Thyreophora, they are both geographically, and temporally very distant to each other.  Both are great dinosaur models.”

The Beautiful Dino Dana Feathered T. rex in Stock

By |2024-10-22T21:48:04+01:00February 2nd, 2022|Wild Safari Prehistoric World|0 Comments

The Dino Dana feathered T. rex dinosaur model is in stock at Everything Dinosaur. This Safari Ltd model is from the hit Amazon TV show that features a nine-year-old girl that imagines prehistoric animals coming to life and interacting with her in the modern world.

Feathered T. rex Dinosaur Model (New Colour Scheme)

Safari Ltd produced a Tyrannosaurus rex model as part of a merchandising deal with the Amazon television show Dino Dana. It certainly has a striking colour scheme. It is a new colour variant of a feathered T. rex model first added to the Wild Safari Prehistoric range back in 2017.

The two Safari Ltd Tyrannosaurus rex models compared. The 2017 feathered T. rex release (top) and the Dino Dana colour variant (below).

Inspired by a Television Show

Dino Dana was created by Sinking Ship Entertainment, a Canadian production company and the first series aired in 2017, ironically the same year the Safari Ltd introduced its feathered T. rex figure (see above). A total of fifty-two episodes were created spanning four series. A feature-length film had been planned for a theatrical release in North America, but the COVID-19 curtailed these plans and the film version was made available via Prime Video. The series combines live action sequences with CGI animation and the prehistoric animals featured are extremely colourful with purple sauropods, pink hadrosaurs and blue stegosaurs.

A spokesperson from Everything Dinosaur commented that they were pleased to be able to bring this item into Europe, as this version of a feathered Tyrannosaurus rex had been requested by a lot of dinosaur fans and model collectors.

The figure includes a hang tag with a QR (quick response) code that can be scanned to enable collectors with the movie app on their phone to interact with the feathered dinosaur.
