The New PNSO Spinosaurus Model – Video Review

Everything Dinosaur team members have produced a short, informative YouTube video review of the new PNSO Spinosaurus model. This video provides viewers with plenty of opportunity to view the Spinosaurus figure. In addition, the narrator summarises some of the recent research that led PNSO to revamp their Spinosaurus.

The video is under six minutes in length (duration 5:47). The first part of the video introduces the PNSO Aymen the Spinosaurus figure, whilst the bulk of the remainder of the recording examines some of the findings from recently published scientific papers.

A Model Range that Reflects Changes in the Spinosauridae

The PNSO range of prehistoric animal figures includes several examples of spinosaurids. Most of the spinosaurid figures the company has produced to date represent the giant Spinosaurus aegyptiacus. However, PNSO did introduce a model of the controversial spinosaur Sinopliosaurus in 2022.

The New Aymen the Spinosaurus is Reviewed

The new for 2024 PNSO Aymen the Spinosaurus has certainly proved popular amongst dinosaur fans. Our thanks to William who sent into Everything Dinosaur his review of this new figure.

William began his review by reflecting on how our perception of this theropod has changed since it was first scientifically described back in 1915.

The reviewer commented:

“To think in 1915 when Ernst Freiherr Stromer von Reichenbach first revealed to the world the
Spinosaurus aegyptiacus, how much it has evolved in 109 years from the loss of the type specimen during World War II to the present day’s awe-inspiring enigma.”

New PNSO Saurophaganax Model Reviewed

Our thanks to dinosaur fan William who sent into Everything Dinosaur his review of the recently introduced PNSO Saurophaganax dinosaur model. The reviewer explained that “Donald” the Saurophaganax was one of three new theropod figures introduced by PNSO towards the end of 2023. The other two figures were Dapeng and Dayong which represented the genus Yangchuanosaurus.

The PNSO Saurophaganax Figure

William praised this new allosaur figure. The model measures around thirty centimetres in length. It is five centimetres longer than the PNSO Paul the Allosaurus figure. It seems that the design team at PNSO have thought carefully about the size of their Saurophaganax maximus figure. This model, like the PNSO Allosaurus has an articulated lower jaw.

“I Could Not Wait to Get this Figure into My Hands”

William explained that the Saurophaganax was a titan. He stated that “Donald’s” sculpt was supremely accurate from the head to the tip of the tail. He highlighted the presence of lips on this theropod figure.

He exclaimed:

“To own this Lord of the Lizard Eaters, you have the greatest Allosauridae model ever to hit the market.”

The dinosaur fan and model collector added:

“I could not wait to get this figure into my hands.”

New PNSO Yangchuanosaurus “Dapeng” Reviewed

Our thanks to a dinosaur model fan who sent in a review of the recently introduced PNSO Yangchuanosaurus “Dapeng” into Everything Dinosaur. William emailed to praise this new PNSO theropod figure and explained that this was the second Yangchuanosaurus figure from PNSO. This replica represents the enormous species Y. magnus.

PNSO Yangchuanosaurus “Dapeng”

The reviewer described this new PNSO figure as “truly a Jurassic terror of China’s ancient past.”

The genus was first erected in 1978 (Dong Zhiming et al). A large theropod skeleton had been discovered during the construction of a dam in Sichuan Province. This dinosaur was estimated to have measured around eight metres long. It was named Yangchuanosaurus shangyouensis. In 1983, a second, considerably larger specimen was uncovered (specimen number CV 00216). It was initially thought to represent a new species and the taxon Yangchuanosaurus magus was erected. Further analysis revealed that the anatomical differences observed in the two skeletons were the result of ontogenetic variation. This larger skeleton is now thought to represent and older, more mature Yangchuanosaurus shangyouensis.

Two PNSO Yangchuanosaurus Figures

The reviewer summed up the two PNSO Yangchuanosaurus figures stated that “Dapeng” represented the larger species Y. magnus or to put it another way the “old man” of “Dayong”.

William expressed his delight at being able to purchase this figure and commented:

“It is privilege to add this great beast to my collection.”

William concluded his Yangchuanosaurus “Dapeng” review by thanking Everything Dinosaur team members for their assistance. He highlighted the company’s excellent customer service and provided an example. Last year, William ordered a pair of PNSO Megalosaurus models, he was emailed by Everything Dinosaur just to make sure he did want the two figures. Team members were concerned in case William had ordered an extra Megalosaurus model by mistake. Once the order had been checked and verified it was despatched without delay.

New PNSO Yangchuanosaurus “Dayong” Reviewed

The recently introduced PNSO Yangchuanosaurus “Dayong” dinosaur model has been reviewed by a dinosaur model collector. William emailed Everything Dinosaur and explained he was a big fan of the PNSO theropod dinosaur figures. He kindly sent a short review of the PNSO Yangchuanosaurus shangyouensis model referred to as “Dayong”.

William explained that “Dayong” was the first of a pair of Yangchuanosaurus figures introduced by PNSO. This replica represents the smaller species (Y. shangyouensis), or a subadult of Y. magus (depending on which reference you read).

The reviewer stated that although the model was slightly smaller than other PNSO theropods, it was:

“Top of the line and a worthy figure to add to your collection.”

William went onto add that the PNSO Yangchuanosaurus “Dayong” is a marvellous sculpt.

“It is robust, and I love his long, boxy face and the lips. He has a wonderful set of teeth in his articulated mouth.”

The Everything Dinosaur CollectA Deluxe Koolasuchus video review has been posted up. The video is available on the company’s YouTube channel and also on the Everything Dinosaur social media pages. It provides an overview of the figure and explains how this aquatic predator was able to survive in a polar landscape.

The video is under nine minutes in duration. It introduces the figure, and the narrator provides some information about Koolasuchus fossils and temnospondyls. Key characteristics of the CollectA 1:20 scale model are commented upon. For example, the unique skin colouration is highlighted along with the diagnostic patterns on the skull. In addition, the amazing jaw is discussed, complete with its fang-like projections.

The Haolonggood Ouranosaurus Models

Both the green Ouranosaurus figure (WuJu) and the brown figure (WuWei) are in stock. In our short YouTube video (it is under six minutes long), we explain Ouranosaurus classification. We confirm that this dinosaur is not closely related to Iguanodon bernissartensis. Most palaeontologists classify Ouranosaurus nigeriensis as a basal hadrosauriform.

In the video, we examine the fossil evidence that led to the Haolonggood Ouranosaurus figure being changed and provided with an updated manus.

Haolonggood Ouranosaurus Model with Thumb Spike – An Exclusive Look

We can confirm that the Haolonggood Ouranosaurus model in stock has the anatomically correct manus (hand). When this figure was first produced, the hand on the model did not reflect the known fossil record. The Haolonggood design team were swift to respond and introduced a more accurate version shortly afterwards.

A More Accurate Haolonggood Ouranosaurus Model

The picture (above) shows a close-up view of the manus of WuJu the green Ouranosaurus figure. The first digit, the thumb (pollex) has a stubby spike. Digits two, three and four were more robust, and were adapted for weight bearing. Please note, in the image above digit four is not visible. Digit five was reduced and had limited sideways movement. It was not prehensile and probably not used for grasping.

The Ouranosaurus Holotype and the Paratype

Ouranosaurus was named and described in 1976 (Ouranosaurus nigeriensis) by the French palaeontologist Phillipe Taquet. Fossil specimens began to be put on display prior to the formal scientific description. This has led to some confusion over the identity of the fossil material. For example, it is now thought that the nearly complete specimen on display at the Natural History Museum of Venice represents the paratype. As a result of this confusion, some of the autapomorphies associated with the holotype that led to the erection of this genus has been challenged.

For example, the tail was described as relatively short. However, this may not be a unique characteristic and the absence of a complete set of caudal vertebrae may have led to this feature being over emphasised.
