Latest News on the Brachiosaurus from Papo of France

Sources close to Everything Dinosaur have reported that the first stocks of the new Papo Brachiosaurus model are currently being painted in the factory before being shipped out to Papo’s European distribution hub (France).  Shipments are expected to be arriving in France by the end of the 19th October.

Papo Brachiosaurus Model

A spokesperson from Everything Dinosaur (UK retailer of dinosaur models), commented that if this schedule was followed then this new model should be available from the company a few days after the stock had been sorted and allocated in France.

The spokesperson also confirmed that space had been made available in the Everything Dinosaur warehouse to accommodate this new model’s arrival.  Plans are in place to email all the customers who had requested that a Brachiosaurus be reserved for them, team members already having been assigned to the task of  managing the reserved models list and contacting customers.

Fingers crossed that everything goes OK with this last Papo release in 2012.

Safari Ltd – Important Information About Model Retirements 2013

By |2024-04-24T16:47:33+01:00October 2nd, 2012|Categories: Everything Dinosaur News and Updates, Everything Dinosaur Products, Press Releases|1 Comment

Models that are being Retired by Safari Ltd in 2013

Safari Ltd have announced which of their figures and replicas are going to be retired in 2013.   A number of models are not going to be made, but for dinosaur fans and collectors of prehistoric animal figures we shall focus here on those retirements from the Wild Dinos range and of course the company’s Carnegie Collectibles range of scale models.

Prehistoric Animal Figures

With the introduction in 2012 of the modified Brachiosaurus model showing the latest interpretation of Macronarian posture, it was always likely that the older Brachiosaurus model in the Carnegie Collectibles range would be retired.  Safari Ltd have finally called time on the large 1:50 scale model (product code 412001), no more of these large brachiosaurs are going to be produced.

Due for Retirement – Brachiosaurus

Safari Ltd are not abandoning entirely this robust, swan-neck model type when it comes to it’s model range.  A very similar Brachiosaurus with a slightly more modern posture (tail raised), is going to be introduced next year but this time in the Wild Safari Dinosaurs range.

The Brachiosaurus is the only retirement announced from the Carnegie Collectibles model range, although the Wild Safari Dinosaurs range will lose two models next year.  Suchomimus (product code 299629) and the Kentrosaurus (product code 300629) are being retired.

The Kentrosaurus model was introduced in 2010 and it is sad to see this little stegosaur figure being retired.  Everything Dinosaur does have a few models of this item in stock, but a spokesperson for the UK based dinosaur company stated that it was likely that stocks would sell out soon as collectors tried to add this model to their collections before it was too late.

After the demise of the Andrewsarchus prehistoric mammal last year, it is also sad to report that the Amebelodon model (Prehistoric Life series code 283229) is also being retired.  Stocks of this primitive elephant model are also to likely to be rapidly depleted.

If Safari Ltd make any further announcements, team members at Everything Dinosaur will ensure that this information is posted up on the Everything Dinosaur blog and other Everything Dinosaur social media sites.

New Additions to Carnegie Collectibles Range and other Prehistoric Series from Safari Ltd

A sneak peek at the 2013 releases from Safari Ltd and it is great to see a number of exciting additions to the already extensive Safari Ltd replica range.  To celebrate the 25th anniversary of the relationship between the manufacturer and the Carnegie Museum of Natural History, a 1:25 scale model of the recently discovered theropod Concavenator is being introduced.

The model will measure nearly 18 cm long and stand 9 cm tall, an exciting new model for the Carnegie scale model dinosaur collectibles range.

Fans of pterosaurs and marine reptiles won’t be disappointed as amongst the new additions to the Wild Safari Dinosaurs and Prehistoric Life series there is a colourful model of the Jurassic pterosaur Dimorphodon and a model of an Elasmosaurus.

Gryposaurus

Other new models in the Wild Safari Dinos (not to scale range) include the hadrosaur, Gryposaurus from the Campanian faunal stage of North America, care has been taken to skilfully re-create the spiny ridge along this dinosaur’s back.

This new hadrosaur measures a little under 22 cm long.

Not to be outdone the trend to include more ceratopsians continues with a replica of Diabloceratops due out next year.  This horned dinosaur from Utah “Devil Horned Face” is bound to be a hit with model collectors.

One other interesting “new” Safari model is a reproduction of a Brachiosaurus in the Wild Safari range that resembles the older brachiosaurid found in the Collectibles scale model range from this company (product code ref: 412001).  A more modern interpretation of a brachiosaur was introduced into the Wild Dinos Safari range a couple of years back and now Safari have added a robust “swan-necked” Brachiosaurus to their not to scale range.

The Brachiosaurus will measure approximately 30 cm long and stand 35 cm tall making it larger than the current Brachiosaurus model in the Wild Safari range.

Finally, in terms of new model introductions, there is exciting news for all fans of the “Terror Birds”, the long awaited Gastornis/Diatryma model is also going to be released next year – a sneaky peek below:

The Gastornis model will measure 8.5 cm by 7 cm approximately.

So much for the vertebrate palaeontologists amongst you, but for once invertebrate palaeontologists have been remembered by Safari Ltd and the company is going to introduce a special tube set featuring fauna from the Cambrian geological period.  Based on fossil discoveries from the Burgess Shale this ten figure model set will feature iconic Palaeozoic creatures such as a trilobite and Anomalocaris plus a model of England’s very own Charnia (hoorah for Leicestershire).

New Dinosaur Head with Dinosaur Models Play Sets Reviewed

By |2024-04-24T16:37:37+01:00September 22nd, 2012|Categories: Everything Dinosaur Products, Press Releases, Product Reviews|0 Comments

Dinosaur Play Sets Reviewed

Novel dinosaur play sets are quite difficult to source these days.  There are a number of dinosaur themed play sets available, but one that has proved particularly popular with young dinosaur fans is the dinosaur head which has a screw-lid in the base that once undone reveals a set of twelve prehistoric animal models inside.  There are two dinosaur head play sets available, one featuring a T. rex and the other the head of a plant-eating dinosaur a Triceratops.

Dinosaur Models

Dinosaur Heads with Models

Dinosaur play sets and dinosaur models.

Dinosaur Play Sets

The plastic heads stand about twenty centimetres high and feature a dinosaur roaring, inside there are twelve different prehistoric animal models to discover.  The T. rex head and the Triceratops both feature the same assortment of prehistoric animals.  In the sets we examined, we found that each set of models included a Tyrannosaurus rex and a Triceratops dinosaur model.  The other ten models consisted of two long-necked, sauropod dinosaurs, a Brachiosaurus and a diplodocid dinosaur.  It is rare to find long-necked dinosaurs in a model set, manufacturers seem to shy away from making small models of these types of dinosaurs, but in this set the models are well-crafted and bound to please young dinosaur fans.

As well as the long-necked dinosaurs and the T. rex, Triceratops combination the models inside the heads that we looked at were an Ankylosaurus, Stegosaurus, Parasaurolophus, Pachycephalosaurus, Styracosaurus and a Velociraptor-like dinosaur, perhaps a fearsome Utahraptor.  The other two models in this colourful series were not dinosaurs.  In common with other prehistoric animal model sets, there was a model of a flying reptile, a pterosaur (Pteranodon flying reptile).  This flying reptile model, showed the creature with its wings outstretched and it had an orange head crest painted on it.  Although the standing position of this pterosaur model is not anatomically accurate (pterosaurs could, most likely not stand fully upright ), the model is well made and would be good for creative, imaginative play.

Colourful Dinosaur Models

The last of the twelve models is a bright orange model of a pelycosaur, most probably a Dimetrodon.  As with the pterosaur model it is quite common to see a “dinosaur model set” featuring a mammal-like reptile.  All the models contained within the heads are colourful and skilfully crafted.  This dinosaur head play set would make an ideal gift for a young dinosaur fan from about three years and upwards.  The screw lid that makes up the base of the head even has a little carry handle built in to it, so this play set can be carried around.

Dinosaur Models (Twelve Well-crafted Dinosaur Models)

A cleverly designed dinosaur play set, the actual heads themselves may not reflect quite the appearance of the dinosaur they represent.  For example, Triceratops did not have teeth quite as depicted on this model, but the figures inside are great for creative, dinosaur themed play.

Last of the Rare Papo Green T. rex Models Available from Everything Dinosaur

By |2024-04-24T16:39:54+01:00September 15th, 2012|Categories: Dinosaur Fans, Everything Dinosaur News and Updates, Press Releases|5 Comments

Papo Green T. rex about to Go Extinct

Everything Dinosaur has been able to get stocks of the very last of the Papo green Tyrannosaurus rex model to be made.   This very popular dinosaur figure, one of the very first made by Papo of France in their “Les Dinosaures” model range, has officially been retired, however, team members at Everything Dinosaur were able to get hold of the very last models to be produced after customers requested this dinosaur replica.

Papo Green Tyrannosaurus rex

The model has been officially retired by Papo, but after Everything Dinosaur received a number of requests for this model, the company was able to use its influence to get hold of the last stocks of this dinosaur replica.

With its articulated jaw, this award winning dinosaur model has been very popular with young dinosaur fans and model collectors.  A new, version of a standing T. rex model was introduced by Papo in May of this year, this too has proved  popular but many customers and fans has requested that Everything Dinosaur do their best to get hold of any remaining stocks.

To view Everything Dinosaur’s Papo models: Papo Tyrannosaurus Models and Other Figures.

A spokesperson for the UK based dinosaur retailer commented:

“The Papo model T. rex with the product code 55001, has been replaced with a new, brown coloured version, but we have been inundated with requests to see if we could get hold of any models.  It is pleasing to note that our influence and relationship with Papo is strong and we have been able to secure the remaining stock.”

Although the company would not be drawn on just how many models were available the numbers are believed to be limited.

Sending Special Dinosaurs to Turkey (and Romania)

Everything Dinosaur Busy Exporting  – Hateg Formation

We are certainly a niche business, there are not many companies that are run by enthusiastic dinosaur fans and fossil collectors.  Our love of all things dinosaur has helped team members at Everything Dinosaur win business all over the world.  Team members have assisted with events and dinosaur themed exhibitions in a number of countries, in fact we have just started to supply an exciting dinosaur fossil excavation based event in Istanbul (Turkey).  Dinosaurs are really universal in terms of their popularity.  This particular event will be touring a number of countries, including Romania, so Everything Dinosaur has sent out some dinosaur goodies to Romania as well.

Romania has provided some exciting dinosaur discoveries in recent years, most notably from the Hateg Formation (Transylvania).  This Upper Cretaceous strata represents an island, part of an series of islands that made up what was to become Europe (sea levels were quite high during the Late Cretaceous).  There is debate as to just how big the island of Hateg was, with size estimates ranging from between 3,000 square miles (about the size of Crete today), to 77,000 square miles (fractionally smaller than the landmass of England, Scotland and Wales combined).  One thing is for sure, the dinosaur fossils found are unique to this part of the world, they include a dwarf sauropod – Magyarosaurus, ceratopsids and the bizarre dromaeosaur (possibly a giant, prehistoric world), known as Balaur bondoc.

To read more about the prehistoric animals of the Hateg Formation: Dwarf Dinosaurs on “Dinosaur Island”.

We are not sure what dinosaurs have been discovered in Turkey, we suspect there must be some.  Certainly, there have been a number of Pleistocene and Pliocene prehistoric mammal discoveries but no dinosaurs spring to mind.

Rare Woolly Rhino Makes its Debut

By |2023-02-04T16:19:07+00:00September 6th, 2012|Categories: Dinosaur Fans, Everything Dinosaur News and Updates, Press Releases|0 Comments

Bullyland Prehistoric World Woolly Rhino Available from Everything Dinosaur

Everything Dinosaur has been able to secure a limited stock of the Bullyland Woolly Rhinoceros model that once featured in the German company’s “Prehistoric World” model range.

The hand-painted Woolly Rhino was requested by a European natural history museum for an exhibition.  The model itself had been retired from Bullyland’s replica range for nearly five years but a small production run using the original moulds was set up and Everything Dinosaur was able to negotiate access to part of this stock.

The Bullyland Prehistoric World Woolly Rhinoceros

Bullyland Woolly Rhinoceros

A number of prehistoric animal models have been re-cast by Bullyland to support their museum customer.  This Woolly Rhino joins a Mastodon, Ancient Horse (Anchitherium), a Giant Elk (Megaloceros), Chalicotherium, Deinotherium, a Terror Bird (Diatryma) and the giant predator Andrewsarchus.

To view Everything Dinosaur’s range of Bullyland models: Bullyland Prehistoric Animal Models and Figures.

Quick Tip – the rare models can be found by scrolling through the Bullyland collection.

This is a lovely example of a Coelodonta antiquitatis, interestingly this German model depicts the Woolly Rhino as somewhat more “Woolly” than the model produced under the direction of the Natural History Museum.  This can be explained by the fact that there were many species and sub-species of Coelodonta.  The animals were widespread in Asia and Europe and may have survived until very recently.  Scientists believe that the last of these type of Rhinos died out only about 10,000 years ago.

Up until recently, it was not known where these animals first originated from.  However, recent fossil discoveries from Tibet suggest that this icon of the Ice Age evolved in that part of the world.
