T. rex Makes Excellent Scarecrow

Tyrannosaurus rex Rules the Vegetable Patch

After one of the wettest summers on record, many gardeners and growers have seen their vegetable patches decimated by all the pests that the wet weather has encouraged.  However, for one group of enterprising dinosaur enthusiasts hungry birds have been put off their greens thanks to the employment of a Tyrannnosaurus rex model that has turned out to be a highly effective scarecrow.

Tyrannosaurus rex Model

The gardener-friendly T. rex stands nearly three feet tall and once team members at Cheshire-based Everything Dinosaur placed the fearsome predator in their vegetable plot, attacks from pigeons stopped and the staff were able to enjoy growing crops of lettuce as well as peas.

The large, plastic dinosaur model, nicknamed “goggle eyes” as his eyes move; was placed in the middle of the vegetable patch in desperation after repeated attacks from pigeons had wiped out all the lettuce seedlings that team members had planted.  The pigeons seem to have taken an instant dislike to the dinosaur and have kept away ever since.

A spokesperson for Everything Dinosaur commented:

“We thought it was worth giving T. rex a try as everything else had failed.  If palaeontologists are correct, then birds and Tyrannosaurus rex are related but pigeons certainly aren’t keen to get acquainted.”

Team members move the model dinosaur around the vegetable beds every few days, just to keep the pigeons “on their toes” and this unusual tyrannosaur tactic seems to have worked as staff at the Cheshire based company tuck into lettuces, peas and beetroot with a bumper crop of onions and courgettes likely to follow.

Mike Walley, one of the team members at Everything Dinosaur commented:

“We are not really sure why goggle eyes has had such a big effect, it could be his fearsome look with his jaws wide open, or perhaps it is the smell of the plastic model the birds can detect.  As the wind blows so the eyes on our dinosaur wobble and this may frighten the birds away.”

Tyrant Lizard King

For one group of vegetable growers thanks to the intervention of the Tyrant Lizard King it seems that their crop of lettuces will not be going extinct.

Is Usain Bolt the Fastest Man on the Planet of All Time?

By |2023-02-04T07:32:31+00:00August 6th, 2012|Categories: Dinosaur and Prehistoric Animal News Stories, Press Releases|10 Comments

Ancient Humans Were Fast Runners Too

Last night in the Olympic stadium (London), Usain Bolt the Jamaican sprinter, retained the Olympic 100 metres title in a winning time of 9.63 seconds.  He took just forty-one strides to complete the course, breaking the Olympic record for the distance as he did so.  The twenty-five-year-old crossed the finish line at something in excess of 23 mph, his training partner and fellow Jamaican Yohan Blake came in second in a phenomenal 9.75 seconds.  Over one million people had applied for tickets to see what is regarded by many as the blue-ribbon event of the entire Games and to witness the great Jamaican sprinters in action.  However, one scientist thinks that some ancient humans could give Usain Bolt and company a run for their money.

Ancient Humans

Anthropologist Peter McAllister thinks that a set of preserved footprints of aborigines in Australia suggests that some early settlers on that continent would have been right up there with the likes of Bolt if they were asked to run the 100 metres final. Mr McAllister’s analysis of the footprints suggests that this group of humans were capable of running at up to 23 mph, bare foot and over soft mud in their pursuit of prey.  Or perhaps they were being pursued themselves, trying to avoid becoming a meal for one of the many super-predators that they shared their Australian home with.

The prints of six men chasing prey and Mr McAllister’s analysis leads him to believe these men if trained and provided with modern running shoes could beat Usain Bolt in a sprint.  Peter claims that these ancient ancestors of ours could theoretically reach sprinting speeds of up to 28 mph.  It is not known what speeds the likes of Usain Bolt, Yohan Blake or Tyson Gay could reach if they were being chased and in fear of their lives.

There has been a lot of debate about just how fast this group of humans were running.  The tracks are located at Willandra Lakes (south-east Australia), one individual, known as T8, changes he stride length from 1.8 metres to 1.9 metres over a distance of approximately 11 metres.  This suggests acceleration, in other words this person began to run faster, however estimates of the speed of these bare-footed people running across soft mud does vary.  Some scientists have calculated that this runner was moving at around thirteen miles an hour, a lot slower than an Olympic sprinter.  However, Mr McAllister states that with training, on the right track and with running shoes T8 could run perhaps as fast as 28 mph.

We’re not taking anything away from Usain Bolt in terms of his achievements, he is a truly remarkable athlete, but our ancestors were much more used to hard physical work when compared to their modern counterparts.  Perhaps given the right training, nutrition and equipment; a New Stone Age Man or Woman could compete with today’s Olympians.

Comments have been made in the Australian media about the relatively poor showing of Australian competitors at these Games, perhaps our chums down under can take comfort in the fact that an anthropologist believes that at least some ancient Australians would have been medal contenders.

Brachiosaurus Replica from Papo Due in September

Everything Dinosaur team members have been informed that the new Papo Brachiosaurus replica has been further delayed.  Sources close to Papo state the model should be available in September.  The Brachiosaurus replica, the largest dinosaur model that Papo have attempted to make, was due to be launched in July of this year, but this was put back to this month.  Now Papo staff are saying that the production has been delayed and that stock should be ready for shipping in September.

A spokesperson for Everything Dinosaur commented:

“The Papo range of prehistoric animals has been extended this year and the Brachiosaurus model was always going to be the last model introduced.  It measures nearly 32 centimetres high and represents an approximate 1:55 scale model of a Brachiosaurus. Papo will be keen to maintain the high standards they have achieved with their model ranges and will be doing all they can to make the model as good as possible.  We are looking forward to finally getting our hands on stocks of this dinosaur model, we have been promised that Everything Dinosaur will be one of the first to receive their allocation”.

The award winning Papo range marketed in France as the “Les Dinosaures” range, currently consists of sixteen dinosaur models (counting the green and brown versions of the standing T. rex).  The range has one pterosaur (Pteranodon), two marine reptiles as well as a set of Woolly Mammoth models, a Smilodon replica and two figures of cavemen.  The company has built up a strong reputation for the quality of their replicas and figures.

Happy 7th Birthday Everything Dinosaur

By |2023-02-03T13:17:38+00:00August 1st, 2012|Categories: Everything Dinosaur News and Updates, Press Releases|0 Comments

Seventh Anniversary of the Founding of Everything Dinosaur

Today, we have been reliably informed, is the seventh anniversary of the founding of our company – Everything Dinosaur.  On August 1st 2005 the company officially came into being.  The story goes that we were quite happy doing what parents, teachers and dinosaur enthusiasts do when our accountants informed us that for auditing reasons we really ought to have a sort of start date – so August 1st become our official birthday.  Just an excuse to bring some strawberries into the office to eat perhaps (not allowed biscuits any more), but nonetheless this is the date that has stuck and I suppose today we are celebrating our seventh birthday.

Everything Dinosaur

YouTube is also seven years old, so our efforts in the business world have to be taken into perspective.  We may not be an established household name but to our thousands and thousands of customers around the world that we have met, talked to, corresponded with, swapped stories, helped, solved problems for, advised and occasionally sold dinosaur merchandise to we hope in some small way that we have made a difference.

We seem to have made a lot of people happy if our customer correspondence is anything to go by, we just try our best, especially with the Everything Dinosaur Blog.

Happy Birthday Everything Dinosaur

Amongst the celebratory confetti we have placed a number of Everything Dinosaur logos.  How many can you count?

Traditional Gifts for an Anniversary

Looking at the traditional gifts for a seventh anniversary, it looks like wool or copper are the order of the day.  Or for those with more modern tastes a desk set is supposed to fit the bill when a seventh anniversary is celebrated.  One thing is for sure, we will be busy at our desks working away providing mums with summer holiday suggestions for dinosaur activities, answering emailed questions about dinosaurs, commenting on drawings and images about prehistoric animals that we have been sent, happy to replace lost dinosaur models, advising model collectors and so forth.  We have some exciting plans in place for the next twelve months – seems like it is going to be a busy year ahead.

A Beautiful Deinotherium in our Boardroom

Rare Bullyland Prehistoric Animal and People Models Arrive

All hands to the pump!  The rare Bullyland models have arrived and we have been busy unpacking them and sorting them in the Everything Dinosaur warehouse.  Just time to take some pictures of the models, many of which, as they had been retired for years, we have not seen for a very long time.

Rare Bullyland Models

Take for example, the Deinotherium replica, or as Bullyland themselves call it; the “tusked elephant”.  This is a beautiful, hand-painted model of this prehistoric member of the elephant family.

Deinotherium tusks, unlike those of many other types of elephants, including those of extant species alive today, grew from their lower jaws.  African elephants and Asian elephants in contrast have tusks that are modified incisors from the upper jaw.  Together with its short trunk the tusks of Deinotherium were used to strip bark of trees.   Many species of Deinotherium are synonymous with locations where early hominid remains have been discovered.  Fossil teeth and tusks have been found throughout East Africa, including famous early hominid fossil locations such as Olduvai Gorge, Lake Turkana and Laetoli.

To view the range of Bullyand models available from Everything Dinosaur: Bullyland Prehistoric Animal Figures.

Deinotherium

These were large and powerful animals, which, when fully grown had no natural predators.  They were browsers of vegetation and not grazers like the Mammoths.  The males were larger than the females with the biggest, weighing around six tonnes and standing over four metres high at the shoulder.

It is great to see some of the long-retired, rare Bullyland models once again.

Rare Prehistoric Mammals and the Ascent of Man Series Soon to be Available

Team members at Everything Dinosaur are pleased to announce that negotiations with Bullyland, the Germany-based figure and model manufacturer have been concluded successfully and the UK-based dinosaur company will soon be getting a range of rare Bullyland prehistoric animal models and early human figures into stock.

Bullyland Prehistoric Animal Models

Over many years, Bullyland have built up a substantial back catalogue of prehistoric animal models, including Mastodons, Chalicotheres, Deinotherium, Woolly Rhinos, Ancient Horses, Irish Elk and Terror Birds.  Customers of Everything Dinosaur will soon be able to get their hands on these rare, hand-painted models.  However, these models will only be available for a limited period.

Everything Dinosaur’s museum contacts informed them that Bullyland was going to produce a small run of its retired prehistoric animal and human figures for sale within the German museum market.  However, thanks to the company’s close relationship with Bullyland and its expertise in the field of prehistoric animal figures, Everything Dinosaur is to be supplied with a limited stock of the models.

A spokeswoman for Everything Dinosaur stated:

“We are delighted to see a number of the previously retired Bullyland models come back.  These once extinct replicas so sought after by collectors are now available once again.”

However, it was pointed out that a number of enthusiasts and collectors had already placed orders with Everything Dinosaur, so the spokesperson added:

“This is really an exciting opportunity for collectors to get hold of some extremely rare models, we suspect that demand is going to outstrip supply for a number of replicas, so it is going to be a case of first come, first served.”

Model collectors can contact Everything Dinosaur, and express their interest in prehistoric animal replicas including the Bullyland prehistoric animal models by emailing the company: Email Everything Dinosaur.

Models can then be reserved and the customer contacted when the shipment arrives (scheduled to be available by mid June).

It is not just prehistoric animals that are being re-introduced, the famous and almost mythical “evolution of mankind” series of models is also going to be available.  This series featured six hominin models that portrayed the evolution of our own species.  The first model is a replica of the ape Dryopithecus, this is followed by an Australopithecine, Homo habilis, Homo erectus, a Neanderthal and concluding the set a replica of a modern man, referred to by Everything Dinosaur staff as the “Clovis Man Replica”.

As if all these models was not excitement enough, Everything Dinosaur have one more surprise hidden away in the geology ruck sack.  The company has been able to secure a limited stock of the exceptionally rare Bullyland Mastodonsaurus model.

Mastodonsaurus was a large-headed, giant amphibian belonging to the temnospondyl clade.  It lived in the Triassic and some species grew to the lengths of modern-day caiman.  A fierce predator, it is great to see a model of this prehistoric animal available once again.  An example of an creature thought to be extinct, coming back from the dead perhaps?

By |2024-04-23T14:08:37+01:00May 4th, 2012|Categories: Everything Dinosaur News and Updates, Press Releases|0 Comments

Six Hundred Customer Reviews on the Everything Dinosaur Website

The sixth hundredth customer review has just been posted up on Everything Dinosaur’s main  website: Everything Dinosaur.

This landmark has been achieved in just under two years, as all previous customer reviews were unfortunately lost when a new website design was implemented.  The number of customer reviews and feedback comments received has accelerated over recent  months, for example, the company reported passing the landmark of 400 online reviews on December 11th 2011, which means that in the last 152 days, Everything Dinosaur has had 200 customer comments and product reviews posted up for its dinosaur toys and games.

Everything Dinosaur

With the company’s high Google shopping rating and its continued commitment to prompt and efficient service it is not surprising that customers have been happy to add feedback regarding service and product quality.

A spokesperson for Everything Dinosaur stated:

“We are grateful to all our customers and loyal fans who have posted up product reviews and feedback on our website [Everything Dinosaur], every letter, dinosaur drawing, feedback form and email is reviewed by our team members and each Friday we sit down and discuss how customer comments and feedback can help improve our service”.

Expressing a big thank you to all those who had taken the trouble to provide feedback, the spokesperson went onto state how important such testimonials were for mail order companies that have an on-line presence and she speculated that there could be as many as 750 customer/product reviews on the website by the end of the year.

New Schleich 2012 Models now in Stock

The first of the  prehistoric animal models designed by the new team at Schleich have just arrived at Everything Dinosaur’s warehouse.  This model series, part of a revision and re-working of the Schleich model range are not to scale and fit between the Schleich “Saurus” range of generally higher priced models and the smaller “Dinosaurs” model series made by the German company.

Twelve New Models

In total there are twelve new models, Allosaurus, Apatosaurus, Brachiosaurus, Giganotosaurus, Parasaurolophus, Quetzalcoatlus – the only non-member of the Dinosauria featured so far, Saichania, Stegosaurus, Spinosaurus, Triceratops, T. rex and a Velociraptor.

To view the models: Prehistoric Animal Models (Schleich).

No doubt, team members at Everything Dinosaur will be writing reviews and posting up videos on Youtube about these new additions to the company’s extensive model range.  The models range in size from sixteen centimetres in length for the likes of the Stegosaurus and the Saichania, to the Quetzalcoatlus with a wingspan of twenty-one centimetres up to the much bigger sauropod models (Apatosaurus and Brachiosaurus), which measure over thirty centimetres in length.

This is certainly an interesting new model series, we look forward to receiving feedback and comments about them from our customers.
