Allosaurus an Iconic American Dinosaur

Allosaurus (A. fragilis) has been described as an iconic American dinosaur.  This large theropod is known from dozens of fossil specimens, all associated with the famous Upper Jurassic Morrison Formation of the western United States.

A fearsome predator, Allosaurus has also been called “the lion of the Jurassic”.  Several species have been named and most natural history museums have some Allosaurus spp. fossils amongst their dinosaur fossil collections.  Allosaurus is also one of the most extensively studied of all the large theropods known to science.  Team members at Everything Dinosaur, got to see prototypes of this new for 2019 model some months ago, it is great to see this figure actually in stock.

Beautiful Paintwork and Fantastic Detailing

As with all Safari Ltd prehistoric animal models, there is much to be admired in this new Allosaurus figure.  The model has been well-crafted and is stable on its two hind legs.  The eye crests are highlighted in blood red and the model has beautiful paintwork and fantastic detailing of the scales on the skin.  Safari Ltd have produced a number of Allosaurus figures over their long history of production.  This is perhaps, the most anatomically accurate of all the Allosaurus figures that they have made.

Rebor Announces New Dilophosaur Models

By |2023-12-17T21:10:33+00:00May 19th, 2019|Categories: Adobe CS5, Dinosaur Fans, Everything Dinosaur News and Updates, Everything Dinosaur Products, Main Page, Photos of Everything Dinosaur Products, Press Releases|0 Comments

Rebor “Green Day” and “Oasis” Dilophosaur Models

The latest additions to the popular range of Rebor prehistoric animal models have been announced.  A pair of Dilophosaurus dinosaurs entitled “Green Day” and “Oasis” are due to be in stock in about six to eight weeks’ time (June/July 2019).

The New for Summer 2019 Rebor Dilophosaurus Models “Green Day” and “Oasis”

Everything Dinosaur Reserve List is Open

Our reserve list for these fine dinosaur models is now open.  To join our priority reserve list for these new Rebor replicas, simply drop us an email and when the models are in stock (estimated around June/July), then we will set the model(s) that you want aside and drop you an email letting you know that the Rebor Dilophosaurus is available to purchase.

To join our priority reserve list: Email Everything Dinosaur to Reserve Your Rebor Dilophosaurus Model(s).

Dilophosaurus wetherilli

The Rebor replicas are representations of the Early Jurassic theropod Dilophosaurus wetherilli, that was formally named and described in 1954.  Since its discovery, (the first fossils were found in 1942), D. wetherilli has become one of the most extensively studied Jurassic carnivorous dinosaurs.  It is apt that Rebor have created two models, as the first set of fossils discovered represented more than one individual dinosaur.

The Female Dilophosaurus “Oasis”

Articulated and Poseable Dinosaur Models

These superb Rebor replicas represent a male and female Dilophosaur.  “Green Day” is the male figure, whilst “Oasis”, pictured above, represents a female.  The models are approximately the same size, the models represent 1:35 scale figures (adult animals), but if required as juveniles reflecting their size in the famous “Jurassic Park” movie, they are in approximately 1:11 scale.  The paint schemes are subtly different, sharp-eyed readers will note for example, that the male figure “Green Day” has a small flash of red painted over the eye, an artful and very shrewd nod in the direction of current palaeontological thinking on behalf of the Rebor design team.

Male and Femaile Rebor Dilophosaurus Models

Both the male dilophosaur “Green Day” and the female “Oasis” have articulated lower jaws.  Each figure also has a flexible neck and tail allowing model collectors to depict their dinosaurs in a variety of poses.  The forelimbs on both models are articulated too.

The models can be purchased separately and Everything Dinosaur will also offer them as a pair.  Each Rebor Dilophosaurus comes with its own detailed base but they can be combined together to make a bigger, twin set diorama.

New Images of Estemmenosuchus and Edaphosaurus Models

By |2023-12-17T18:14:31+00:00May 16th, 2019|Categories: Adobe CS5, Dinosaur Fans, Everything Dinosaur Products, Main Page, Photos of Everything Dinosaur Products|0 Comments

Estemmenosuchus and Edaphosaurus Models

Team members at Everything Dinosaur have posted up an image featuring two of their favourite Permian tetrapods, the sail-backed, herbivorous reptile Edaphosaurus and the “crowned crocodile” Estemmenosuchus.  Although these reptiles lived during the Permian geological period, their fossils are not found in the same rock formations and although both animals are classified as members of the Class Synapsida, they are not closely related.

An Illustration of Estemmenosuchus and Edaphosaurus

The CollectA 1:20 scale Estemmenosuchus model and the CollectA Edaphosaurus figure. What a splendid pair of Palaeozoic Era models!

CollectA 1:20 Scale Estemmenosuchus and the CollectA Edaphosaurus

Often described as dinosaurs, these two CollectA figures represent vertebrates that lived long before the first dinosaurs evolved.  As synapsids, they are actually more closely related to modern mammals than they are to the Dinosauria.  The CollectA Deluxe 1:20 scale Estemmenosuchus was introduced in 2018, whilst the CollectA Edaphosaurus came out earlier this year (2019).  They are most impressive models and are part of an initiative by CollectA to add more models and replicas of animals that existed before the dinosaurs evolved to their already extensive range of prehistoric animal figures.

The first species assigned to the genus Edaphosaurus may have originated in the Late Carboniferous.  Edaphosaurus spp. fossils are known from the southern United States and Europe (notably the Czech Republic and Germany).  In contrast, Estemmenosuchus fossil material, as far as we at Everything Dinosaur know, comes from the Perm region of Russia.  It is from this region of Russia that the geological period – the Permian was named.

Estemmenosuchus and Edaphosaurus

The image (above), depicts two splendid CollectA figures, the company has been praised for introducing more replicas of Palaeozoic animals into its model range, but based on the current fossil record, such a meeting between these two animals never took place.  Estemmenosuchus was geographically and chronologically separated from those species assigned to the Edaphosaurus genus.

To see the CollectA Deluxe model range: CollectA Deluxe Models and Figures.

In answer to a query raised by one of Everything Dinosaur’s customers, the CollectA Deluxe Estemmenosuchus model does indeed have an articulated jaw.

JurassicCollectables Reviews the Killer Queen T. rex Models

By |2023-12-17T17:54:58+00:00May 12th, 2019|Categories: Dinosaur Fans, Everything Dinosaur Products, Everything Dinosaur videos, Main Page|0 Comments

JurassicCollectables Reviews the Killer Queen T. rex Models

JurassicCollectables has produced a video review of the two, new for 2019, Rebor Killer Queen T. rex dinosaur models.  This has been one of the most eagerly anticipated video reviews for model collectors so far this year, with a great deal of interest in these two 1:35 scale Tyrannosaurus rex figures.  Interest has been piqued for several reasons, firstly, it is great to see Rebor bringing out more dinosaur models, after all, this range has gained quite a substantial following and secondly, fans of the Jurassic Park franchise can see two T. rex figures that reflect changes in how “the tyrant lizard king” was depicted as the franchise progressed.

Classy Packaging

The video review starts with a look at the classy packaging with the models packed in a black satin box, the back of which depicts other Rebor replicas available in the range.  The unboxing part of the video highlights the protective foam packaging that each model is packed in and looks at the handy T. rex fact card that accompanies each figure.  At Everything Dinosaur, we also include a special T. rex fact sheet that is researched and written by our team members.  The seventeen minute video examines each model in detail starting with the Rebor Killer Queen T. rex “plain” colour variant.

A Close-up View of the Underside

In these cleverly constructed videos, JurassicCollectables are able to show parts of the model not depicted in the manufacturer’s studio images.  For example, the narrator describes the Rebor Killer Queen “plain” colour variant of being reminiscent to the T. rex seen in the first “Jurassic Park” movie.  When highlighting the details on the model, the narrator shows the underside of the figure and comments on the careful sculpting of the belly scales.

In this highly informative video review, the narrator comments that if the “plain” colour variant is reminiscent of the T. rex from the first “Jurassic Park” film, then the colour variant “jungle” reminds him of the apex predator seen in the second instalment of the franchise “The Lost World”.

The beautiful detailed texture of the skin is praised, as is the painting around the eye and the glossy, wet-look given to the wide jaws.  Measurements are provided and the figures compared to a number of other models within the JurassicCollectables portfolio including the Papo standing T. rex figure (55001) and of course, off-colour Alan.

Everything Dinosaur Announces More PNSO Models

Everything Dinosaur will be stocking more new for 2019 PNSO prehistoric animal models.  Today, the UK-based company has announced that the dinosaur diorama featuring “Dayong” the Yangchuanosaurus and “Xiaobei” the Chungkingosaurus will be in stock soon along with “Lucas” the Giganotosaurus dinosaur model.

The PNSO Giganotosaurus (G. carolinii) Replica “Lucas” will be in Stock Too

PNSO Prehistoric Animal Models

This is the second new PNSO product announcement made by Everything Dinosaur this week.  A few days ago, it was announced that the Amargasaurus, Spinosaurus and Mosasaurus figures were being stocked, along with a new range of intermediate models featuring a Megalodon and an Ankylosaurus.  To see this earlier announcement: Everything Dinosaur Announces more PNSO Figures Coming into Stock.

A spokesperson from Everything Dinosaur commented:

“At the start of the year, we claimed that we would be bringing into stock at least fifty new prehistoric animal models.  Once again, we have proven to be as good as our word with the addition of these two excellent PNSO figures.  Customers can now source PNSO replicas such as the new for 2019 “Ron” the Mosasaurus, “Lucio” the Amargasaurus, “Dayong” the Yangchuanosaurus and “Xiaobei” the Chungkingosaurus, as well as the Giganotosaurus “Lucas” from a supplier based in the west.”

Anatomical accuracy is very important for Everything Dinosaur, when it comes to selecting which prehistoric animal models and figures to stock.  In addition, when it comes to dinosaur dioramas featuring a pair of animals, the geological and temporal context has to be correct.  PNSO have been very careful to create beautiful and anatomically accurate figures based on the fossil evidence.  Yangchuanosaurus and Chungkingosaurus were contemporaneous so the depicting of this encounter between theropod and armoured dinosaur is perfectly valid in our view.

The carnivorous Yangchuanosaurus has an unusual claim to fame, it was the first theropod dinosaur to be named and scientifically described by four authors (Y. shangyouensis by Dong, Chang, Li and Zhou in 1978).

Yangchuanosaurus is known from several specimens including a considerable amount of cranial material.  Analysis of these fossils has revealed that it had a remarkable change in its body proportions as this dinosaur grew.  A sub-adult specimen reveals a skull some 9% shorter than its femur, but in an adult specimen, the skull is proportionately much bigger, some 15% longer than the adult femur.  As Yangchuanosaurus matured so its skull increased in size, this probably reflects the position of the adults as the dominant, apex predators within the ecosystem represented by the vertebrate fossil assemblage from the Upper Shaximiao Formation.

“Lucas” the Giganotosaurus

Whilst PNSO have tended to produce models of prehistoric animals known from Asia, it is great to see a figure of the super-sized South American predator Giganotosaurus added to their range.

A Fantastic Late Cretaceous Dinosaur Diorama

By |2024-05-11T16:58:57+01:00May 5th, 2019|Categories: Adobe CS5, Dinosaur Fans, Everything Dinosaur Products, Main Page, Photos of Everything Dinosaur Products|0 Comments

A Late Cretaceous Dinosaur Diorama

Prehistoric animal model collector Robert Townsend very kindly sent some photographs into Everything Dinosaur featuring his Late Cretaceous dinosaur diorama.  Robert has created for himself, his very own super-sized model prehistoric landscape, featuring authentic vegetation, artificial rocks and a dinosaur watering hole complete with dinosaur tracks and footprints.

His latest project involved creating typical prehistoric scenes reflecting the fauna of the Late Cretaceous (Campanian and Maastrichtian faunal stages), of North America.  We can expect to see a landscape dominated by duck-billed dinosaurs, ornithomimids, pachycephalosaurs with the apex predatory positions occupied by tyrannosaurids.

The Late Cretaceous Prehistoric Scene

North America in the Late Cretaceous

Using Robert’s large collection of prehistoric animal models, the majority of which have been purchased from Everything Dinosaur, he has created a series of mini dramas within his super-sized landscape and his focus has been to use prehistoric animal figures representing animals from the famous Hell Creek and the slightly older Dinosaur Provincial Park Formations of North America.

Admittedly, the addition of the Bullyland Pteranodon sternbergi model (Geosternbergia sternbergi), which is associated with the Smoky Hill Chalk Member of the Niobrara Formation (Kansas) is interesting, after all, this animal is associated with marine and not terrestrial deposits.  However, these large pterosaurs were accomplished fliers and they may have frequently flown inland, perhaps to find fresh water.

The Rare Bullyland Pteranodon sternbergi (Geosternbergia sternbergi) Features in the Diorama

The Bullyland Pteranodon sternbergi figure has been out of production for a long time, but Everything Dinosaur was able to acquire some of these extremely rare figures.

Not All Horned Dinosaurs and Hadrosauridae in the Dinosaur Diorama

Although, North American herbivorous populations were dominated by the horned dinosaurs and the duck-billed dinosaurs, there were many other types of dinosaur resident too.  Robert has skilfully added a range of different prehistoric animals to his landscape.  For example, ornithomimids and pachycephalosaurs feature as well.

A Struthiomimus Bumps into a Dracorex

The fleet-footed ornithomimid had better watch out, a recent scientific paper which involved the analysis of the front of the jaw of a pachycephalosaur proposed that these bone-headed dinosaurs may have been partially carnivorous.  To read more about this hypothesis: Pachycephalosaurus – Was it Carnivorous?

Tyrannosaurus rex and Triceratops

No North American Late Cretaceous dinosaur diorama would be complete without the appearance of Tyrannosaurus rex and Triceratops.  Creator Robert does not disappoint, he depicts a T. rex feeding on the corpse of “three-horned face” and within the prehistoric scene the tyrannosaurid Albertosaurus can be found along with a horned dinosaur very distantly related to Triceratops – Styracosaurus.

A spokesperson for the UK-based Everything Dinosaur praised the prehistoric landscape and stated:

“We congratulate Robert for his creative use of the prehistoric animal figures and the beautiful details of the diorama.  It is always a pleasure to receive photographs of prehistoric scenes which have been choreographed by our customers.”

Rebor Killer Queen T. rex – Attaching the Tail

Rebor Killer Queen T. rex – Attaching the Tail

Fans of the Rebor range of prehistoric animal replicas will know that some of the recent model introductions have had flexible tails.  The three Ankylosaurus models “War Pig” for example, along with the two colour variants of the tyrannosaur figure “Vanilla Ice”, these figures have all been supplied with detachable, flexible tails.  Team members at Everything Dinosaur thought it might be helpful to would-be Rebor collectors if we were to shoot a short video to show how these tails attach to the models.  In addition, for those people who had not purchased one of these Rebor dinosaur models before, we could show how the figures are supplied.

The Tail is Supplied as a Separate Piece

In this short, thirty second video, we show how the tail is supplied as a separate piece (Rebor Killer Queen Tyrannosaurus rex models) and how it can be inserted into the back of the figure to make the model complete.  Both the Rebor Killer Queen “jungle” and “plain” variants have this feature and the tails are flexible, allowing collectors to put their T. rex into a variety of poses.  The nature of the joint into the posterior of the animal reduces the amount of vertical movement, but in the Dinosauria, generally, the tail could not move a great deal in the vertical plane.  However, the flexible rod in the tail piece permits quite a degree of lateral movement.

In an earlier blog post, we included a short video that demonstrated the flexibility of the tail in a Rebor tyrannosaur model.  To view this post: Rebor Killer Queen T. rex Models Have Poseable Tails.

All the tails in the photograph come from 1:35 scale Rebor replicas.

The tail inserts into the posterior with a positive “click” and the separate tail piece helps Rebor to cut down on product packaging (less cardboard required as the model fits into a smaller box).
