Tyrannosaurus rex Gift Card and Tooth – A Winning Present Combination

Buy dinosaur party supplies on-line. Everything Dinosaur stocks a huge range of dinosaur items including a Tyrannosaurus rex tooth replica.

Looking to solve your gift problem when it comes to purchasing for a dinosaur mad youngster, then let Everything Dinosaur take the worry out of making a selection with this new addition to our already extensive dinosaur themed product range which incorporates our huge stock of dinosaur party supplies.

Why not purchase a Tyrannosaurus rex gift card in combination with a museum quality replica of a T. rex tooth?  This simple idea of putting together a dinosaur themed gift card with a dinosaur themed present makes the problem of purchasing an inexpensive present for a dinosaur obsessed youngster extinct.

T. rex Gift Card

The dinosaur greeting card, designed by those clever people at Santoro, features a 3-D Tyrannosaurus rex.  It is a swing card, the T. rex is made up of movable parts so he comes out of the card wiggling his head and tail at you.  The background illustration of a primeval, dinosaur filled jungle is really cool and there is plenty of space for you to write a personal message.

The card itself has a blank message space so it can be used for all kinds of occasions – birthdays, general greetings, get well soon, even Christmas.   The card comes supplied with its own properly sized envelope, finding a gift card for a young dinosaur fan could not be easier with this unusual and novel dinosaur inspired offering.

Tyrannosaurus rex Tooth Replica

The tooth is a museum quality replica cast from a real fossil tooth of a Tyrannosaurus rex.  T. rex had over sixty teeth in its powerful jaws and it had one of the strongest bites of any animal known to science.  This beautifully sculpted replica is a tooth from the right side of the lower jaw of the first ever Tyrannosaurus rex skeleton discovered.  This tooth is part of the T. rex collection housed at the Natural History Museum in London (specimen number BMNH R799).  It is not the largest tooth in the museum’s T. rex collection but the fine detail preserved and its beautiful shape made it the ideal tooth to cast a replica from.

Those keen dinosaur enthusiasts at Everything Dinosaur even provide a fact sheet all about Tyrannosaurus rex, the ideal accompaniment to the greetings card and the replica tooth.  You can read all about the discovery of T. rex, why the arms are so small and learn facts about the “Tyrant Lizard King”.  A scale drawing is included to give an idea of just how big some of these dinosaurs were.

Providing an inexpensive and unique dinosaur themed gift could not be simpler, what a great way to make a young palaeontologist feel special, or to help with the dinosaur party items, their own personalised T. rex greetings card and a replica tooth cast from a real museum quality Tyrannosaurus rex tooth – give the gift of prehistory, we bet you will see a bigger grin than the toothy smile of a T. rex.

New Dinosaur Bedtime Buddies – Microwavable Dinosaurs

Dinosaur Bedtime Buddies – Better than a Hot Water Bottle Any Day

There are a number of dinosaur soft toys in the market place, the staff at Everything Dinosaur have even helped design a few, however, it is always exciting to see something different come along and get put through our testing programme.

Dinosaur Soft Toys

The new “Cozy Plush” or as we prefer to call them our “Dinosaur Bedtime Buddies” range certainly fits the bill as being a little different, they are a soft toy and hot water bottle combined.  Filled with specially treated wheat grains the Apatosaurus, Triceratops and delightful Stegosaurus that make up this range can be microwaved to make them lovely, cosy and warm, ideal bedtime companions for little children.

Made from super soft materials, these tactile and very cuddly dinosaurs comply with the British Safety Standard BS8433-2004 and the International Toy Safety Standard EN71-1/2/3/9.  The green Apatosaurus, purple Stegosaurus and the blue Triceratops are scented with lavender to help young ones get off to sleep.  They are very huggable and cute.  You may see the Apatosaurus sold elsewhere as Brontosaurus, but the dinosaur experts at Everything Dinosaur know that every self-respecting young palaeontologist would soon tell you that the name Brontosaurus is officially no longer recognised.  This is why our green dinosaur is described as Apatosaurus and comes with its own Apatosaurus fact sheet.

Brontosaurus

Here is the reason why Brontosaurus as a name for a dinosaur is no longer valid:

The eminent American palaeontologist Othniel Charles Marsh described and named Apatosaurus in 1877 from fossils found near the town of Morrison in Colorado, USA.  Two years later, bones of what was thought to be another dinosaur were found at a quarry at Como Bluff, Wyoming.  This animal was described and named as Brontosaurus “Thunder Lizard” by Marsh.  As more skeletons were found, scientists realised that these two dinosaurs were actually the same genus, and since Apatosaurus was described first, the name Brontosaurus had to be disregarded.

In 1905 when the world’s first long-necked dinosaur skeleton went on display at the American Museum of Natural History it was wrongly labelled as Brontosaurus.  Thanks to this and many Hollywood films, the name Brontosaurus seems to have stuck in people’s imaginations and for many years “Thunder Lizard”, that is what the name Brontosaurus means in Latin, was one of the best-known dinosaurs.

Palaeontologists were so fond of the name Brontosaurus, that when an early example of this type of dinosaur was discovered in the United States, it was name Eobrontosaurus “Early Thunder Lizard”, so that the genus name could be associated once more with the fossil record.

With no plastic beads for eyes or other parts likely to get hot, these soft and very huggable dinosaurs are ideal for young children.  Scented with lavender to aid relaxation these microwavable dinosaurs beat a hot water bottle every time.

Just what you need with the winter nights drawing in.

Update

Following a revision of diplodocid fossil material, Brontosaurus is regarded as a valid genus.

The soft toys featured in this article are no longer available.

Recommended Last Safe Posting Dates for Christmas 2009

There are only seventy-four days left before Christmas day, so time to start thinking about Christmas shopping, especially if you wish to send something overseas, a gift for a relative abroad and such like.  In a bid to help our customers, Everything Dinosaur will be extending our packing hours once again this Christmas and we will continue to pack and despatch goods for customers on Saturday mornings.  We genuinely try to do all we can to ensure items ordered from Everything Dinosaur are despatched as quickly as possible.

The information below is the guide published by Royal Mail as to the last safe posting dates for Christmas mail sent in the UK and overseas.

A Table Illustrating the Last Safe Posting Dates for Christmas

Table credit: Everything Dinosaur and Prestatyn Post Office*

A team member at Everything Dinosaur, tried in vain to find the Christmas posting information at the Royal Mail website.  The Christmas posting dates for 2008 were located but they were not able to find the information for this year’s posting dates.  We know that our local post office has resorted to researching the dates themselves and hand writing a notice for their customers as they have not received any formal information from Royal Mail to date.  We eventually found the information we wanted at the website of a Post Office located in north Wales.  This is a sad reflection on the current state of Royal Mail’s management, the threat of strike action at Royal Mail means that it is very important that customers wishing to send items via the Royal Mail network post in plenty of time to avoid disappointment.

Staff at Everything Dinosaur will do all they can to assist customers and below is a list of helpful hints and tips about the Christmas post.

1).  Remember to include the house number or house name with the delivery address information.

2).  Check postcode/zip code details carefully.

3).  Before pressing the “submit” button to send an order to Everything Dinosaur, check the delivery address one last time.

4). Remember, with PayPal, Google Checkout and our own website’s ordering process customers can write a message to us in the order message box.  You can write in confirmation of delivery address or any specific, relevant information required to help ensure a rapid delivery.

5).  If you want to specify a different delivery address to your billing address, our website allows you to do this easily and without fuss.

6).  If you want to send an item to your work address, please ensure that you include the company name in the delivery address information.

If you have a query about Christmas deliveries, or indeed any aspect of Everything Dinosaur’s delivery service please feel free to contact us:

Jurassic Wars – A New Dinosaur Combat Game

By |2024-04-18T07:02:28+01:00October 11th, 2009|Categories: Dinosaur Fans, Everything Dinosaur News and Updates, Main Page, Press Releases|0 Comments

Jurassic Wars Dinosaur Combat Game

Pit dinosaurs from different geological time periods against each other in a bid to become master of the Mesozoic in this dinosaur based combat game. Select a dinosaur card from your hand and try to beat your opponent’s dinosaur in this ultimate battle for survival.

Want to know how an Iguanodon would have fared up against a vicious Carnotaurus or whether a Stegosaurus could survive an attack from a T. rex, this dice based game allows players to explore these scenarios, pitting dinosaurs that would have never met against each other in mortal combat.

Jurassic Wars

Those creative people at Dice Maestro have combined dinosaurs and geology into a clever dice based game involving tactics, skill and a little luck to decide who will be the champion.

Jurassic Wars – Dice Combat Game

The game can be played by between two and five players and is suitable for children from aged 7-8 and upwards.  The trick is to learn the relative strengths of the dinosaur on your picture card and assess whether or not you need to play one of your special combat cards to give you the edge in any particular one on one encounter.  Lots of lovely dinosaurs are featured from the regulars such as T. rex, Apatosaurus and Triceratops to some of the more unusual ones such as Dryosaurus and the obscure Sarcosaurus (early theropod whose remains; a single pelvis are associated with Leicestershire, in England).

It is pleasing to see such a variety of Dinosauria featured and the object of the game is to win your opponents cards using the special red or green combat dice to decide the outcome of each battle.

This game has whizzed through our review process, with very favourable comments such as parents stating that it is nice to see a dice based game and not a computer game for a change (although note was made of the cool computer generated dinosaur graphics that feature throughout the sets of cards).  The study box makes an excellent combat arena and this means that this game is suitable for taking on holiday or travelling.  In fact, we received a number of comments and remarks on how well presented and packaged this game was.

Another nice touch was the “suggest a dinosaur” element.  The manufacturers provide information in the contents about how young dinosaur fans can suggest a new dinosaur to be added to this combat game.  There are certainly plans to include expansion packs and extend the number of prehistoric animals associated with Jurassic Wars.

Research into Tracing Human Ancestry – Our Complicated Family Tree

By |2024-04-17T13:39:23+01:00September 21st, 2009|Categories: Dinosaur and Prehistoric Animal News Stories, Press Releases|0 Comments

Genetic Studies will Help to Unravel Hominid Evolution

Scientists hope that tracing human history will be made easier thanks to developments in gene technology and gene sequencing.

The paucity of the early human fossil record has hampered scientists in their search to understand more about the evolution of our own species (Homo sapiens) and our taxonomic relationship with other early hominids such as Homo neanderthalensis, Homo erectus and H. heidelbergensis.  Our human family tree is constantly being revised as more hominid fossils are found in various parts of the world.  Although most of these fossils are fragmentary, it is hoped that genetic material extracted from these fossil samples will provide a powerful insight into the relationships between different species.

Tracing Human History

Geneticists have refined search techniques to such an extent that in the very near future, molecules of DNA recovered from fossilised remains such as femurs and other large bones from hominids that lived more than a hundred thousand years ago, will be enough to provide data on the genome.  The genome is the entirety of an organism’s hereditary information, a DNA (also RNA included), based map of an organism, that when compared to other genomes will show how closely related (how similar) those organism are at the genetic level.

For example, analysis of the Neanderthal genome from material many thousands of years old, will help scientists to understand the differences between ourselves and this species of hominid, which is believed to be the most closely related to us.  The genetic differences discovered, may help researchers to identify behaviours and other traits that led to the extinction of some hominid species and to the survival of H. sapiens to the present day.

Identifying Different Human Species

One of the problems likely to be encountered is that there is evidence of interbreeding between different species.  This interbreeding will blur the boundaries between different species and this coupled with the wide geographical spread of some early hominids such as Homo erectus for instance, will make mapping probable lines of descent at the species level very difficult.

A spokes person from the dinosaur toy company Everything Dinosaur stated:

“The study of the genetic make up of human ancestors will help to shed light on the relationships between different species on the hominid family tree.  However, it is likely that such studies will raise almost as many questions as answers.  Our evolutionary path and the patterns of hominid development are not going to be easy to unravel even with advances in the study of genetic information.”

Yes we have some New Pyjamas!

By |2024-04-17T13:43:38+01:00August 20th, 2009|Categories: Everything Dinosaur News and Updates, Main Page, Press Releases|0 Comments

Dinosaur Pyjamas arrive Safely

After a very long wait, our shipment of dinosaur pyjamas has finally arrived.  It seems that our pyjamas and the container in which they were in got lost and have had a very roundabout journey on their way to us.  Having arrived in England and been unloaded, the shipment was sent to the wrong despatching hub, it seems to have travelled backwards and forwards across the UK, with ourselves desperately trying to catch up with it.

Dinosaur Pyjamas

Finally, we cornered our wayward pyjamas at a depot in Coventry (West Midlands), after a bit of a tussle we were able to extract our boxes from the others that had been gathered there and our brave team were able to get their hands on the pyjama sets that we had all been waiting for.

We started early this morning to check all the new stock and put them into our on-line shop.  Pyjamas are now available, we have contacted those customers on our waiting list and will have to order more shortly.

Here’s hoping that the next batch of dinosaur themed pyjamas behave themselves.

Experimenting with Ezines and Ezine Formats

By |2022-12-25T18:17:35+00:00July 11th, 2009|Categories: Everything Dinosaur News and Updates, Main Page, Press Releases|0 Comments

Communicating with Customers – using Ezines

One of the many projects team members at Everything Dinosaur have been working on is a new format for our occasional customer newsletters.  According to those who are more digitally minded than the rest of us, these are termed ezines (electronic magazines we assume).

Everything Dinosaur

We have been asked to test out a number of software packages that offer supposedly easy to use email newsletter writing systems.  I guess we were chosen as we are not the most IT literate of company’s, but we have all been having a go, trying out the different templates and formats.

Most of the systems we tried seem to be fairly easy and logical to operate, using WYSIWYG technology (stands for What You See Is What You Get).  The layout and style of the email piece can be changed and we were each given the option to try out a particular template to see what we thought worked the best.

After a little debate a template style called “Smooth Water” proved to be the most popular.  It was then just a case of getting it customised with our logo and corporate style and then we were ready to write and send our first piece.

An Example of the New Ezine Format

Communicating with Customers

We are certainly not experts at creating a newsletter but when we have sent out occasional news letters and emails to our database, we do get a high number of openings and click throughs and very few nifties (bounce backs).  I am sure there is more that we can do to improve communication with our customers and those who have submitted their contact details to us, but we are learning all the time.

To learn more about how Everything Dinosaur uses customer information or to register to join our newsletter database: Email Everything Dinosaur.

At one of our weekly meetings, just after we had decided on the type of ezine we wanted to send out and agreed the style we came up with a list of 5 tips to help with electronic communication with customers.  There are a lot better informed people than ourselves but we thought we would share these tips in case they prove helpful.

Some Tips for Electronic Communication

* One click unsubscribe – a quick way to unsubscribe is very important.  In some countries it is a mandatory requirement.  The unsubscribe link should take the recipient directly to a page where they are then removed, courteously and without fuss from your mailing list.

* Get the attention of your readers quickly, try to devise a snappy attention grabbing subject line for your electronic communication, perhaps offer a benefit or something to get them reading more.

* Always include a signature at the bottom of any communication, it is one of the easiest ways to attract more traffic to your website.  This signature should include your company contact details and an unsubscribe link.  You can use your signature to link back to your website, and even to other products, but we think this shows professionalism.

* Provide the option to have readers view the electronic communication in a “browser format”, by offering them this you are showing courtesy and acknowledging that some readers may have difficulty viewing your communications using their own software.

* Try to personalise your email, rather than state “Dear Reader” invest in database technology that permits you to personalise and customise your communications, after all, everyone wants to be treated as an individual.

One final thought, in this age of data protection, we would recommend that anyone with a company holding data in a variety forms in the UK, they ought to subscribe to the Data Protection Act.  We subscribe to this act and pay our annual fee and do all we can to protect our customer’s and employees information plus ensuring that we abide by UK legislation regarding data protection.

Everything Dinosaur Team Members Prepare for a Busy Summer

By |2022-12-25T11:31:55+00:00June 21st, 2009|Categories: Educational Activities, Press Releases|0 Comments

Everything Dinosaur Reveals Plans for Summer 2009

The summer school term may nearly be over in the UK, but once Everything Dinosaur’s teaching commitments have been completed it will be time to focus on the events and other activities the company has planned for the rest of the summer.   The forthcoming school holidays will permit staff to review lesson plans and schemes of work that have been delivered as part of the company’s dinosaur workshops programme.  In addition, there has been time set aside to add new dinosaur themed teaching programmes aimed especially at Foundation Stage classes, Reception and Key Stage one.  This will help to strengthen the firm’s portfolio of dinosaur themed visits to schools.

A Busy Summer

Everything Dinosaur team members will also be working on a number of outreach programmes involving dinosaur talks, fossil digs and other activities helping to support museums and other educational bodies.

It is certainly going to be a busy summer for Everything Dinosaur.

Everything Dinosaur

A spokesperson for the UK-based dinosaur toy company commented:

“We have plans to expand our lesson plans for use when working with children in age groups from four to six.  Our team members have lots of ideas about how to undertake  teaching about dinosaurs in schools and we can’t wait for the start of next term.”
