Feathered Dinosaurs – Model Set from the AMNH

The Feathered Dinosaur Set from the AMNH (New York)

The set of feathered dinosaurs, designed by those clever palaeontologists and researchers at the American Museum of Natural History (AMNH) in New York is back in stock at Everything Dinosaur.  This set of model dinosaurs consists of a number of feathered dinosaurs.  Animals such as the ancestor of T. rex, the predatory Dilong from China, as well as smaller theropods such as Microraptor and Caudipteryx.  There is even a brightly coloured, feathered Velociraptor, depicted in a pose as if it is about to pounce on some unsuspecting prey.  Accompanying the feathered dinosaurs in this set are a number of rare non-feathered dinosaur models, including a member of the Chasmosaurinae (Chasmosaurus).

To view models and replicas of prehistoric animals take a look at the huge: Safari Ltd. Wild Safari Prehistoric World Models.

Feathered Dinosaurs

The set also includes a model of a primitive horned dinosaur Protoceratops.  This is very appropriate (putting a model of Protoceratops and Velociraptor together), especially when you consider that new evidence is about to be published suggesting that the carnivorous Velociraptor may have scavenged the carcases of the herbivorous Protoceratops.

To read more about this discovery: Evidence of Velociraptor Feeding Behaviour – Scavenging the carcase of a Protoceratops.

Interestingly, another Asian dinosaur, distantly related to Protoceratops and Velociraptor is depicted in the set – Psittacosaurus.  Since the models making up this set (a tube as the Americans call them), were first cast; new evidence concerning Psittacosaurus has emerged.  Although this dinosaur is depicted as non-feathered in this particular model series, there is considerable fossil evidence to indicate that this small ornithischian dinosaur was covered in downy feathers, or at least it had long feather-like quills protruding from the tail.

To read more about the feathers on Psittacosaurus: The Evolution of Feathers – Bird-hipped Dinosaurs upset the Apple Cart.

All in all, this set makes a welcome return to the Everything Dinosaur product range.  The models are very well painted and the set helps to encourage creative, imaginative play.

Excavate a Dinosaur Skull Kit – Build your own Museum in your Bedroom

Everything Dinosaur announces a new addition to its Young Scientist range of science based educational products – the excavate your own dinosaur skeleton kit.  Each kit contains a gypsum block inside of which there are pieces of a dinosaur’s skull and skeleton for young palaeontologists to carefully excavate.  The kit contains the tools required to do the job, digging tools and a brush just like a real palaeontologist’s tools when they are digging around fossil bone.  You can display your excavation just like a dinosaur fossil in a museum.

Dinosaur Skeleton Kit

Turn your bedroom into a miniature museum with this range of dinosaur skeleton excavation kits for you to excavate and mount.  There are several in the series to collect and this product is suitable for children (with a little supervision from mums and dads).

Dinosaur skulls are perhaps the most important component of the dinosaur fossilised skeleton.  Differences in skull shape and size helps scientists determine whether or not the fossil may represent a new species.  Skulls and jaws can tell palaeontologists a great deal about the animal.  For example, what it ate, how it looked and it can even provide information on how important some of its senses like sight and smell might have been.

Can you build the dinosaur skeleton kit and create your own dinosaur museum?

New Feature Available on Everything Dinoaur Website – Sharing Wishlists

By |2023-01-04T08:02:20+00:00April 5th, 2010|Categories: Everything Dinosaur News and Updates, Main Page, Press Releases|0 Comments

New Everything Dinosaur Web Feature – Sharing Wishlists

The Everything Dinosaur website: Everything Dinosaur’s website. has a number of very useful, customer friendly features.  For example, for those visitors that create their own personal space on our website and open an account, they can put items from our shop into their very own “wishlist”.  A wishlist is quite a common feature on websites that have a shopping function.  It enables customers to designate products that they wish to purchase at a later date.

When a customer clicks on the link “add to wishlist” for a product, they will be directed to their very own personal wishlist page (if not logged in, they will be prompted to do so, or register first to access this feature).

The wishlist page shows all the items that a customer has listed.  Next to a picture of each product listed, is a box for customers to make personal notes for each item on their list.  There is plenty of room to make notes and to type in comments (see example below).

The Everything Dinosaur Wishlist for Customers

The picture shows what a typical customer wishlist looks like.  In the example above, two products can be seen in this particular wishlist, the dinosaur excavation game and a dinosaur wooden puzzle cube.  The field for personal comments can clearly be seen, and adjacent to this is the date when these items were added (4th April).  Customers can transfer items directly to a shopping cart (add to cart), or simply remove an item (remove).  To save the comments and/or the changes made to a wishlist, simply scroll down the page and click the button marked “update wishlist”.  Once this has been done, any changes made are safely stored on the customer’s personal wishlist.

Sharing Wishlists

Wouldn’t it be a good idea if you could share your wishlist with other people?  Perhaps you are putting together some gift ideas for your child’s birthday and you want to be able to share this list with other relatives.  Well so long as those relatives have an email address – now you can.

The Everything Dinosaur technical team have set up an RSS feature for the wishlist.  RSS stands for “really simply syndication”, it allows customers to distribute information in a standardised format, sending a wishlist of dinosaur gift ideas to relatives and friends; for example.

Sharing the Everything Dinosaur Wishlist

Sharing product gifts is easy – use Wishlist.

At any time the information in a wishlist can be shared with others, simply scroll to the bottom of the page and click the “share wishlist” icon.

Once the “share wishlist” icon has been clicked, customers are invited to list the email addresses that they want to send this information to.  Each email can be typed into the box (each address separated by a comma (,)) and there is an opportunity to include a message to the recipients of the information if required.  By pressing the “share wishlist” icon at the bottom this information will be sent to the designated email addresses.

On this page there is a checkbox marked “check this checkbox if you want to add a link to an RSS feed to your wishlist”.  If a customer ticks this box, the share wishlist email will include a link within it so that a customer’s friends and relatives can subscribe to feeds from that customer.  This will enable them to keep up to date with gift ideas and any changes.

This is yet another feature for the benefit of customers that has been added to the Everything Dinosaur website.  Shopping and sharing ideas and suggestions with friends and family could not be simpler.

A Special National Science and Engineering Week

By |2024-04-19T09:47:02+01:00March 15th, 2010|Categories: Everything Dinosaur News and Updates, Main Page, Press Releases|1 Comment

National Science and Engineering Week 2010

For team members at Everything Dinosaur, this week (week commencing 15th March) is the start of our involvement in National Science and Engineering Week.  Officially, this national programme of science and other related events started on the 12th, but for us, our activities in schools really get going from today onwards.

National Science and Engineering Week

Organised by the British Science Association, this annual programme of events, exhibitions, seminars and presentations encourages UK residents to learn something about science, maths and engineering.  There are a number of activities planned over the next few days, all aimed at helping people discover something that they did not know.

This year’s theme is “planet Earth” in support of the International Year of Biodiversity, celebrating the diversity of fauna and flora.  Everything Dinosaur staff are taking part in a number of dinosaur themed activities – carrying out experiments with artificial dinosaur stomachs, casting teeth of herbivores and carnivores, plus taking a number of classes back to the Early Jurassic to investigate some new fossilised dinosaur footprints.

Fake Reviews on Websites – Everything Dinosaur’s Point of View

By |2023-01-03T07:06:07+00:00March 7th, 2010|Categories: Everything Dinosaur News and Updates, Main Page, Press Releases|0 Comments

Fake Reviews on E-tail Websites – Everything Dinosaur’s Point of View

Everything Dinosaur receives hundreds of emails from customers, we get feedback on our customer service and products. Every single one of our reviews is genuine.

I suppose it had to happen sooner rather than later, after all, it probably happens on other websites, we received a product review from a customer who praised the particular product they had purchased from our website but then commented that the other product reviews related to that item were made up.

Genuine Reviews

The truth is we get hundreds of compliments from customers and very positive feedback from those people who have purchased from Everything Dinosaur, or just asked for some dinosaur information, or help with a school project and such like.

Our company is made up of parents, teachers and real dinosaur experts, when we set up the business more than five years ago we drafted a set of articles that we as a company would abide by.  These principles, are our very own memorandum of association, setting out how we would run Everything Dinosaur, fundamentally we wanted to have a organisation that we could be proud of, what we stood for mattered to us.  Indeed, if we ourselves could not be passionate about what we do and what we stand for then how could we expect anybody else to be on our behalf.

The ability to post up feedback and comments on the website was a development first introduced into our website upgrade in 2008, the revised and expanded system operating today, the result of yet another upgrade, retained the “write a review/feedback” section as we felt that this was an important element.  Prior to this there was no facility for customers to publish the nice things they said about us, or indeed for Everything Dinosaur team members to put online comments and feedback received and we wanted to rectify this.

Unfortunately, when we changed servers a few months ago, much of the feedback and comments received could not be transferred over.  We lost much of the input from customers and clients of the company as a result.  However, slowly but surely the site is becoming populated once again by feedback.  This may be a slow process, to date we have had published on our website 146 product reviews and comments since the new server system was installed on the 6th May 2009.  This works out at approximately one customer review or comment every two days or so.  We are grateful and very appreciative of every one that we receive.

Customer Feedback

Perhaps it would be helpful if we outlined our policy on customer feedback and comments, as we do put quite a lot of work into this area of our business and indeed a great deal of what we do is influenced and directed by the comments we receive.

For every order that we send out where a feedback postal service is available, we include a feedback form and a FREEPOST envelope.  We get quite a few of these everyday and, as part of our work in the company, each morning those that we have received are reviewed and then split between us so that we can respond in person to any comments or suggestion that might require a personal reply.

As subscribers to the UK Data Protection Act (Registration number: Z9024867), we have a tick-box element on the form, so that customers can advise us whether or not they would like to be included in our newsletter and product information database.  Above this part of the feedback survey, there is a section where customers can provide comments, ideas, suggestions and such like.  Every form that comes into us, is read and discussed by the team members and it is from these comments that many of the feedback and comments published at the Everything Dinosaur are sourced.  In addition, since every order placed with us is responded to by a team member sending a personal email to the customer, we do get quite a lot of feedback and comments electronically.  If this is the case, we email the customer again, encouraging them to leave a comment on the website, we include in our reply a link to the product(s) in question so that the customer can write a view on the page of the item that they have purchased.

Feedback from Collectors

With the models that we supply, we tend to get a lot of feedback from collectors and dinosaur enthusiasts.  Many of the new introductions have waiting lists of customers, who have requested that we reserve a particular model for them.  When the models come in these people are contacted and often when they have received the model we get some comments back either via an email reply to our earlier correspondence or via the feedback form.

We can understand why some more cynical people could perceive portions of the feedback as being made up, this may be a practice found on other commercial sites.  For us however, it is a full time job, responding to and working with the customer letters, comments, reviews and everything else that we do receive, so we don’t have time to fabricate any.

Let me close by putting up the latest comment received by Everything Dinosaur.  Yesterday, we only had one feedback form in our Saturday morning post.  This form had been sent into us by a lady called Haidee from London.

Customer Feedback sent into Everything Dinosaur

I think the above feedback, speaks volumes for our company and everything we stand for.  Our thanks to all those people who take the time and trouble to give us feedback and place comments/reviews on our website.

Everything Dinosaur Brings in New Papo Models

By |2023-03-04T14:54:04+00:00February 12th, 2010|Categories: Everything Dinosaur News and Updates, Main Page, Press Releases|0 Comments

Everything Dinosaur Brings in New Papo Models

Everything Dinosaur, the UK based dinosaur company run by parents, teachers and real dinosaur experts is to bring in Papo models for the first time.  Announcing the addition of Papo prehistoric animal models to their already extensive model range, a spokesperson for the company commented on how they had admired the Papo models for a long time and that they were delighted to be able to stock them.

Papo Dinosaur Models

Papo, the France based model and figure manufacturer have been making specialist figures for more than a quarter of a century.  They specialise in producing highly detailed, historical figures, animals and characters from films.  The dinosaur range, or as the French would say “Dinosaures” includes four new models, a Plesiosaurus, Oviraptor, Pachyrhinosaurus and a new Velociraptor colouration.  Everything Dinosaur will be stocking all these products, although the Plesiosaurus will not be available until late Spring.

To view the current Papo model range: Papo Dinosaur and Prehistoric Animal Models.

As well as the dinosaur figures, Papo produces a pair of finely detailed Stone Age people models, one with a stone hand axe, the other with a flint spear.

The Prehistoric Figures from Papo

It is fitting for a French company to have two superb caveman models to add to their collection of dinosaur models, as France is famous for early modern human settlements and remains as well as many Neanderthal artefacts and fossilised bones.  Papo dinosaur models are highly collectible and very carefully painted.  These dinosaur and prehistoric animal figures are highly regarded by dinosaur fans of all ages.

Eagerly Awaiting the Release of the Schleich Saurus Giganotosaurus

By |2023-03-04T15:04:03+00:00February 8th, 2010|Categories: Everything Dinosaur News and Updates, Main Page, Press Releases|0 Comments

New Schleich Saurus – Release Date September 2010

Team members at Everything Dinosaur are eagerly awaiting the arrival of the Schleich Giganotosaurus model.

The Saurus range of prehistoric animals from Schleich is only having one new addition this year.  This German manufacturer is producing a scale model of a Giganotosaurus (Giganotosaurus carolini) to go with its large theropod collection of T. rex, Spinosaurus and the Late Jurassic Allosaurus.

Schleich Giganotosaurus Model

The New Schleich Giganotosaurus Model – Release Date Sept. 2010

We have been lucky enough to see this model up close, as part of our preview work with the manufacturer.  This Giganotosaurus, continues this German company’s tradition of producing very stocky and robust looking theropods.  This model contrasts nicely with the long awaited Giganotosaurus from Bullyland (Germany).  Bullyland have chosen a very different look for their version of this large South American predator from the Neuquen Province of Argentina.

The red head on the Bullyland model is most striking, a reflection on the large theropod hypothesis put forward by Dr Bob Bakker et al.  More on this later no doubt when our first shipments come in; but in the meantime, it is exciting looking forward to the release of the Schleich interpretation.  The detailing on this model is very good, the expression of the fenestra in front of the orbit (eye) is vividly demonstrated.  This Giganotosaurus is clearly depicted as a ponderous, heavy, carnivore, quite capable of tackling a titanosaur if it wanted.
