Euhelopus fossils are known from Lower Cretaceous deposits from the Chinese coastal province of Shandong. It had a disproportionately long neck, and its forelimbs were longer than its hindlimbs, giving this sauropod a sloping back.  Size estimates vary.  For example, the Everything Dinosaur Euhelopus fact sheet cites a body weight range from 3, 500 kilograms to 15,000 kilograms.

The Term “Comb. nov.

In 1929, Swedish palaeontologist Carl Wiman originally described and named the dinosaur Helopus, meaning “Marsh Foot.” He derived the name from the Greek words helos (meaning swamp), and pous (meaning foot). Therefore, the dinosaur’s name references both the marshy site where the fossils were discovered and Swedish swamp shoes that, according to Wiman, resembled the animal’s wide feet. However, the name Helopus was already in use for a bird species, as the Caspian tern had been named Helopus caspius.  The Latin term “comb. nov.” is associated with the Euhelopus taxon.  This stands for “Combinatio nova“, reflecting the fact that the formal, binomial name for this dinosaur was a new scientific name created from a pre-existing name for this animal.

Two colour variants of the Euhelopus will be available. The figure (left) is the brown-coloured Euhelopus Jiang Jing. Yang Chun the grey-coloured Euhelopus is on the right.

Mike from Everything Dinosaur commented:

“The 1/6th scale Komodo dragon figure was introduced in the autumn of 2019.  It quickly proved popular amongst model collectors and herpetologists.  The model appeals as it looks so realistic.  We took some photographs of the figure outside.  These photos highlight the quality of the figure. Sadly, the images have been stolen by a number of unscrupulous individuals and have been used to sell their own figures and models.”

The Rebor Komodo Dragon Model

The Rebor GrabNGo Komodo dragon also makes a wonderful replica of Megalania. Megalania (Varanus priscus) roamed Australia during the Pleistocene Epoch. It is thought to be closely related to the Komodo dragon. Size estimates vary but it is widely reported as being the largest terrestrial lizard known to science. The fragmentary nature of the fossil remains make it difficult to provide a definitive size. Most individuals were probably comparable in size to the extant Komodo dragon. However, some animals may have been much larger with body lengths of seven metres proposed. If the Rebor GrabNGo figure is used to represent Varanus priscus, then the model is in approximately 1/12th scale.

The Remarkable Rebor Tyrannosaurus rex “Kiss” Island

By |2025-07-09T15:47:09+01:00July 9th, 2025|Categories: Rebor Models and Figures|0 Comments

Our thanks to model collector Carl who sent into Everything Dinosaur some photographs of his recent acquisition.  The images show the Rebor Tyrannosaurus rex “Kiss” island version on display.  Carl has placed his figure on a display base and added some foliage.  Moreover, he has added a CollectA Deluxe cycad model in the foreground to add depth to his composition.  The viewer’s eye is drawn to the tyrannosaur figure whilst the cycad fronds and trunk help to frame the shot.  It is a cleverly crafted composition.

This latest release from Rebor measures over forty centimetres in length.  It has a declared scale of 1:35. In addition, the model has an articulated lower jaw, poseable arms and a flexible tail.  The model stands around fourteen centimetres high.  It would be slightly taller for Carl with the addition of his display base.  This new Rebor “Kiss” version replaces the original “Kiss” mountain model.  The photographs help to highlight the striking paint scheme and the model’s colouration.

Mike from Everything Dinosaur commented:

“I congratulate Carl.  Firstly, for the addition of the vegetation and the display base and secondly for the careful way in which he has composed his photographs.”

Each figure measures thirty-three centimetres in length. However, when the curve of the tail is considered, the actual length is nearer forty-three centimetres. Each figure stands around nineteen centimetres tall. Everything Dinosaur supplies the Nanmu Studio Therizinosaurus Claw Spike figures with a Therizinosaurus fact sheet.

These theropod dinosaur models are reminiscent of the Therizinosaurus that appeared in the film “Jurassic World Dominion” from 2022.

Mike from Everything Dinosaur stated:

“It is likely that Therizinosaurus was herbivorous. It probably used its enormous, curved claws to grasp branches of trees and to strip them of their leaves. Its claws, were probably used to intimidate potential predators.”

The Rebor T. rex Kiss Island Figure

The Tyrannosaurus rex model measures over forty centimetres in length.  It is supplied with a free Everything Dinosaur T. rex fact sheet.   The tail can be a little tricky to insert into the body.  We suggest that the tail is dipped into hot water for a few seconds to heat up the plastic plug.  The heat makes the tail piece more pliable.  It should be easier to insert into the body of the model after some gentle heating.

The small arms can be moved into different positions. When first taken out of the box, the arms can be stiff.  We recommend that the arm joint is gentle heated with a hairdryer to make it easier to manoeuvre.

The New for 2025 Mojo Fun Carnotaurus Dinosaur Model

By |2025-07-01T13:51:33+01:00June 30th, 2025|Categories: Mojo Fun and Prehistoric and Extinct Animals|0 Comments

The new for 2025 Mojo Fun Carnotaurus dinosaur model is in stock at Everything Dinosaur.  This is one of two prehistoric animal model introductions to be made by Mojo Fun this year.  The other model is a replica of the Jurassic plesiosaur Cryptoclidus.  Blue certainly seems to be the preferred motif this year for Mojo Fun.  Both the Carnotaurus and the Cryptoclidus are a striking blue in colour.

The Mojo Fun Carnotaurus Figure

The Carnotaurus (C. sastrei) replica is the only new dinosaur model to be introduced by Mojo Fun this year.  In addition, it is the only new theropod.  The model measures over twenty-two centimetres in length.  The height of this figure is around eight and a half centimetres.  The dorsal part of the model and the limbs are painted a vivid blue.  In contrast, the underside is painted a warm orange colour.

The New for 2025 Mojo Fun Cryptoclidus Figure

By |2025-07-01T10:48:21+01:00June 25th, 2025|Categories: Mojo Fun and Prehistoric and Extinct Animals|0 Comments

The Mojo Fun Cryptoclidus model is now in stock at Everything Dinosaur.  This plesiosaur replica is one of two new prehistoric animal models being introduced this year (2025) by Mojo Fun.  It is a replica of a marine reptile that was first scientifically described back in 1871 (Professor J. Phillips).  A Cryptoclidus model is perhaps, long overdue.  After all, thanks to the many well-preserved specimens that have been found, this genus is featured in numerous museum exhibits all over the world.

The Mojo Fun Cryptoclidus Figure

This new Cryptoclidus model measures approximately twenty-two centimetres in length. The width across those broad front flippers is an impressive thirteen centimetres. This is an excellent Cryptoclidus (pronounced Krip-toe-kly-dus) figure.  The design team have included a tail fin.  It is likely that these marine reptiles had tail flukes.  Furthermore, it reflects the design team’s willingness to review the fossil evidence.

The colour scheme is striking.  The model has been painted a deep blue.  The pale underside provides counter shading.

Mike from Everything Dinosaur commented:

“I remember seeing images of this marine reptile in children’s books about prehistoric animals.  These illustrations might have been inspired by the remarkable aerial view of a pair of Cryptoclidus painted by the highly influential Czech artist Zdeněk Burian.  Moreover, I welcome this new Cryptoclidus figure.  It will highlight this plesiosaur taxon to a new generation of model collectors.”

The First Everything Dinosaur Evolution Model

The first four figures in this range represent dinosaurs from the iconic Hell Creek Formation.  An astonishing amount of work has gone into developing these figures.  They have been developed in the UK. Furthermore, they have been designed in the UK.  Since their formal launch (3rd of June 2025), they have sparked a great deal of interest from dinosaur fans and model collectors.

The newsletter featured more images of EDE001.  This is the new Tyrannosaurus rex model in 1:33 scale.

The design team:

  • Sue (Everything Dinosaur)
  • Dr Dean Lomax (acclaimed palaeontologist)
  • Glen Southern (award-winning digital designer)
  • Bob Nicholls (renowned palaeo-reconstruction artist)
  • Mike (Everything Dinosaur)

Sue from Everything Dinosaur explained that many people had been involved in the project and that years of work had gone into planning this new range.

Sue added:

“Our plan is to follow the fossil evidence and to try to create prehistoric animal figures based on the fossil record.  Moreover, we wanted to send a special newsletter to those model fans who had expressed an interest in T. rex.”
