New Eofauna Tyrannosaurus rex Figure Reviewed

By |2024-08-02T10:50:54+01:00August 3rd, 2024|Categories: Eofauna Scientific Research Models|0 Comments

Dinosaur fan and model collector William sent to Everything Dinosaur a model review.  The review focused on the new for 2024 Eofauna Tyrannosaurus rex figure.  We created a short blog post summarising the reviewer’s comments.  This dinosaur model is based on the T. rex specimen housed at the Field Museum in Chicago.  The specimen is nicknamed “Sue” after Sue Hendrickson, who discovered the dinosaur in 1990 during a commercial excavation trip in South Dakota.

You can read William’s review of the Eofauna T. rex model here: Eofauna “Sue” Model is Reviewed.

This tyrannosaur model is supplied with a display base.  In addition, the figure has an articulated jaw.  William congratulated the design team. He stated that in his opinion, this was the most accurate Tyrannosaurus rex model to date.

Eofauna Tyrannosaurus rex

Everything Dinosaur team members have posted up a summary of William’s comprehensive view on the Eofauna Tyrannosaurus rex product page.

Here is the review as it appears on the Eofauna T. rex product page:

“Simple! It’s an Eofauna figure. Two years in development but well worth the wait for a model of ‘Sue’, not some fantasy beast but a replica of a once living animal. Eofauna Tyrannosaurus rex “Sue’. It is a banquet for the eyes. Congratulations! We all now own the most accurate scientific Tyrannosaurus rex figures to exist.”

The reviewer went onto praise Everything Dinosaur stating:

“Customer service from Everything Dinosaur is of the highest level. A prime example was last week whilst I was ordering two PNSO Megalosaurus I received an email from Sue to confirm that it was not a mistake and that I did want two figures. Thank you Everything Dinosaur for your care and consideration.”

Mike from Everything Dinosaur thanked William for his model review and for his kind words about the company.

Which are the Best Prehistoric Animal Models?

By |2024-07-23T14:32:14+01:00July 27th, 2024|Categories: Dinosaur and Prehistoric Animal Models|0 Comments

At Everything Dinosaur, we get sent lots of questions by dinosaur fans.  We try our best to reply to them all.  Sometimes the questions we receive relate to a new dinosaur discovery.  We get enquiries about the latest research and fossil finds.  In addition, our email inbox is populated with enquiries about prehistoric animal figures.  Some of these questions involve us providing information about a single model.  For example, recently we received lots of enquiries about the new Eofauna T. rex 1/35th scale model. However, we also receive more general questions, such as which are the best prehistoric animal models?   This is a tricky question to answer.  After all, an appreciation of dinosaur and prehistoric animal models is extremely subjective.

Comparing dinosaur models.

Comparing T. rex dinosaur models. The Natural History Museum figure compared to a CollectA 1:40 scale Tyrannosaurus.  Which prehistoric animal is best?  That’s a subjective question.  Picture credit: Everything Dinosaur.

The Best Prehistoric Animal Models?

Prehistoric animals and extinct creatures have long captivated the imagination of children and adults alike. The most popular museums tend to be ones that focus on natural history. The most popular galleries in these museums are often the ones containing prehistoric animal fossils. From the fearsome Tyrannosaurus rex, to the majestic mammoth (Mammuthus), these animals drive curiosity and a thirst for knowledge. Moreover, for those seeking to bring the past to life, high-quality animal replicas can be an invaluable resource.  Whether used for educational purposes, creative storytelling, or simply as display pieces in museums, prehistoric animal models offer a tangible connection to ancient ecosystems.

The picture (above) shows the popular Papo running T. rex figure in a museum exhibit featuring tyrannosaur material.  Papo prehistoric animals may not be the most scientifically accurate models, but these figures have been spotted being used in museums.

Scientific Accuracy or Play Value?

Arguably, the best prehistoric animal models not only capture the unique physical characteristics of their subjects, but also their sense of power and presence. Many also feature articulated joints, allowing for dynamic posing and creative play.  So, when considering which are the best prehistoric animal models what factors should we prioritise?  Do we focus on scientific accuracy or play value?  For example, the Beasts of the Mesozoic figures are essentially for display.  However, their stunning paintwork along with their myriad of articulated joints can attract younger dinosaur fans to this model range.

Additionally, there are personal preferences to consider.  For Everything Dinosaur team members, it is not possible for us to answer the question about “the best prehistoric animal models”.  Any answers would be difficult to quantify and extremely subjective.  Ultimately, it is a case of “beauty being in the eye of the beholder” and there are probably no right or wrong answers to this question.

Happy model collecting.

New Eofauna T. rex Model is Reviewed

By |2024-07-21T18:46:55+01:00July 22nd, 2024|Categories: Eofauna Scientific Research Models|0 Comments

Our thanks to dinosaur model fan William who supplied a review of the Eofauna T. rex model.  William has been collecting prehistoric animals for quite a while and he explained that this figure had been two years in development, but it was well worth the wait.  He commented that it was wonderful to have an accurate sculpt of “Sue”, otherwise known as FMNH PR 2081.

The review began by focusing on the head of the figure.  The head is described as “fantastic” with glorious textured lips and inquisitive eyes.  It was explained that Eofauna were thinking outside the box when they devised this figure and created a novel fixture for the articulated jaw.  The seam is obvious on the figure, but the reviewer hoped that this approach to articulation had been patented.

The Eofauna T. rex Main Body

The trunk of the figure is described as being accurate and the muscular tail is praised.  The figure has a declared scale of 1:35. The tiny arms and hands ending in their two digits with claws are highlighted as being particularly well done.  William commented that the powerful hind limbs had been crafted with skill.  He also highlighted the textured pads on the underside of the feet.

When describing the chosen colour scheme for the figure, William exclaimed:

“The colour and texture of the figure are a banquet for the eyes.  The model may have been inspired by the Mexican beaded lizard’s colouration.  It has superbly sculpted skin integument from the lips to the tip of the tail.”

In concluding his review, William explained that the figure comes in a sealed plastic bag, and it is supplied with an informative picture trading card.

This is the first Eofauna figure to be supplied with a display base.  The reviewer highlighted the Eofauna T. rex model base and stated that it should prevent toppling issues.

Thank You Everything Dinosaur

The final part of the Eofauna T. rex model review was reserved for the Everything Dinosaur team members.  William thanked Mike and Sue for providing dinosaur fans and model collectors with assistance.  During these uncertain times, even through the pandemic team members were available to provide advice and support.  The company’s commitment to sourcing leading brands and obtaining new stock was praised.

In summarising the range of models offered and the variety of product prices, William stated:

“It is a very good price range for children up to the adult collector who either wants the latest Beasts of the Mesozoic Yutyrannus huali figure to the latest releases from PNSO”.

William added that purchasing from Everything Dinosaur was safe and secure and that the company offered excellent customer service.  He thanked the company for their kindness and consideration.

Bullyland Ichthyosaurus Figures New into Stock

By |2024-07-24T16:35:58+01:00July 21st, 2024|Categories: Bullyland Prehistoric Animal Figures|0 Comments

The rare Bullyland Ichthyosaurus figures are back into stock at Everything Dinosaur. These marine reptile models have been in and out of production for the best part of a decade.  We know how keen model collectors are to obtain rare figures, so we do our best to stock these difficult to find models.

Bullyland was formed in 1973. The company originated from the small town of Spraitbach near Stuttgart in Germany. The proximity to the Stuttgart Natural History Museum (Staatliche Museum für Naturkunde), led to a collaboration between the company and palaeontologists on a range of prehistoric animal figures.  Bullyland is perhaps more famous for its movie figures.  However, the company has always manufactured a small range of prehistoric animal models.

Bullyland Ichthyosaurus Figures

The Bullyland Ichthyosaurus figures arrived last week (July 2024).  The models measure 21.5 cm in length and the manufacturer has declared a scale of 1:60.  In the Bullyland range, there are several articulated figures.  However, the Ichthyosaurus figure has no points of articulation.  Many of the prehistoric animals in this range are hand-painted and the Bullyland Ichthyosaurus has been praised for its colour scheme.

Models of Marine Reptiles

A spokesperson from Everything Dinosaur welcomed the Bullyland Ichthyosaurus figures back into stock. The spokesperson added:

“It is always a pleasure to bring into stock rare or difficult to obtain figures.  We know how keen collectors are to get every model in a range and the Bullyland Ichthyosaurus has been hard to find.  At Everything Dinosaur, we listened to our customers, and we have set about bringing this figure back and making it available.”

It was explained that the Bullyland range included other marine reptile models.  Currently, a Liopleurodon and an Elasmosaurus were part of this German range of figures.

The New Eofauna Tyrannosaurus rex Model

By |2024-07-25T14:06:44+01:00July 17th, 2024|Categories: Eofauna Scientific Research Models|0 Comments

Team members at Everything Dinosaur took some photographs of the recently introduced Eofauna Tyrannosaurus rex dinosaur model.  A new 1/35th scale figure was taken to the photography studio, the lights turned on and the model carefully placed on the turntable.  Several photos were taken, the figure was photographed from different angles.  It is a fantastic replica of the “king of the tyrant lizards”.

This is a superb theropod dinosaur model. It is a museum quality replica of the famous T. rex specimen housed at the Field Museum in Chicago.  This is a model of the Tyrannosaurus rex nicknamed “Sue”.  It is a wonderful Eofauna model in 1:35 scale. The Eofauna T. rex is supplied with an Everything Dinosaur Tyrannosaurus rex fact sheet.

The head has been remarked upon by collectors.  The long snout shows lots of detail and the model has an articulated jaw.  The figure has a visible seam on the head.  Some collectors have suggested that the snout reminds them of the muzzle of a dog. However, the model depicts an accurate representation of the anatomy of the Field Museum T. rex (FMNH PR 2081).

Mike from Everything Dinosaur stated:

“This is the second theropod model to be introduced by Eofauna.  The first figure was Giganotosaurus carolini and both models are in 1/35th scale.  There are ten models in the Eofauna model series, and this T. rex is a wonderful figure.”

Finding Suitable Dinosaur Models for Adults – Some Helpful Advice

By |2024-07-21T16:12:10+01:00July 16th, 2024|Categories: Dinosaur and Prehistoric Animal Models|0 Comments

Finding suitable dinosaur models for adults can be a challenge.  There are so many prehistoric animal models available these days.  For the novice, the choice can be overwhelming.  The experts at Everything Dinosaur are happy to provide advice.

Dinosaur Models for Adults

Prehistoric animal figures have long been popular children’s toys, but in recent years, there’s been a growing demand for more detailed, realistic models aimed at a mature audience. These models aren’t just child’s play they are meticulously crafted works of art that allow you to appreciate the majesty and complexity of these ancient creatures in incredible detail.  However, which models to collect?  Team members have recommended some ranges that are popular with mature collectors.

PNSO figures are favoured by model collectors.  There is an extensive range to collect, and several new figures are being introduced each year.  The PNSO model range has been praised for its scientific accuracy, and for the different prehistoric animals that have been included.  There is a bias towards theropod figures, but PNSO have also produced sauropod models and replicas of armoured dinosaurs.

Nanmu Studio Jurassic Series

The Nanmu Studio Jurassic Series has been heavily influenced by monster movies such as “King Kong” and “Jurassic Park”.  The figures are beautiful, and many include display bases.  There are limited-edition figures too.  For example, a recent addition to the “Dragon Soul” series is the “King of the Giant Apes – Rage” figure.

Collectors have been amazed by the subtle details and, the precise anatomical features.  For example, the gorilla figure has a high degree of realism.  The base of the “King of the Giant Apes” figure includes some carefully painted human remains.  These help to provide the impression of size and scale for this figure.  Model fans have also praised the painting of the ape model too.

Mike from Everything Dinosaur commented:

“Nanmu Studio figures have been strongly influenced by cinema monsters. The company focuses on these movie monsters. Whilst not scientifically accurate for the most part, some of their figures are extremely impressive and highly collectable.”

Haolonggood Models and Figures

Another range to consider when looking for dinosaur models for adults is Haolonggood.  These models, like PNSO and Nanmu Studio are manufactured in China.  The range has grown rapidly and there are now over twenty different dinosaur figures to collect.  These models are usually made in pairs.  Each dinosaur being available in two different colour schemes.  The image (below) shows the Haolonggood Ouranosaurus figures.  The company was congratulated by many dinosaur fans for amending the models to ensure an accurate manus (hand).

Display them alongside informative books and documentary DVDs to teach yourself and your family more about dinosaur evolution and palaeontology. They also make wonderful conversation pieces that are sure to impress your guests and ignite their own fascination with prehistoric life.  Some figures increase in value over the years, especially rare figures or limited-edition models.

Mike from Everything Dinosaur confirmed that the company would be stocking this new dinosaur model.  He praised the figure stating:

“Maxim the Baryonyx will make a welcome addition to the PNSO model range.  It is great to welcome a Baryonyx figure from PNSO, especially since the company added a Sinopliosaurus, a model of a probable Asian spinosaurid in 2022.”

The PNSO Baryonyx figure had an articulated lower jaw.  The long jaw has the typical shape of a member of the Spinosauridae family of dinosaurs.  Baryonyx is known to have fed on other dinosaurs, but most palaeontologists suspect that the bulk of its diet was fish.

An Exquisite Replica of a Large Dromaeosaurid

The new for 2024 Beasts of the Mesozoic Utahraptor is an exquisite model of a large dromaeosaurid dinosaur.  Mike from Everything Dinosaur explained that Utahraptor ostrommaysi was one of the biggest dromaeosaurs known to science.  The recently introduced Achillobator figure represents the largest dromaeosaurid known from Asia.

He commented:

“With the introduction of these replicas both representing very large dromaeosaurids, producing YouTube shorts about them feels like a juxtaposition.”

The New PNSO Mateo the Tyrannotitan Model

By |2024-07-16T14:26:57+01:00July 13th, 2024|Categories: PNSO Age of Dinosaurs Models|0 Comments

A model of the South American carcharodontosaurid Tyrannotitan chubutensis is to be added to the PNSO mid-size range of prehistoric animal figures.  This new theropod figure will be in stock at Everything Dinosaur in a few weeks.  PNSO have already produced a Giganotosaurus figure as well as a Mapusaurus. Phylogenetic studies suggest that the geologically much older Tyrannotitan was closely related to Giganotosaurus and Mapusaurus.  The new figure will be called Mateo the Tyrannotitan.

This new dinosaur figure measures thirty-two centimetres in length.  The head height is reported to be around thirteen centimetres.   The beautiful dinosaur model has an articulated lower jaw.  It is supplied with an A3 Sci-Art Tyrannotitan poster and a full-colour booklet.  The booklet has sixty pages.

Tyrannotitan chubutensis

Tyrannotitan (T. chubutensis) was formally named and described in 2005 (Novas et al). It was a large theropod, with body size estimates in excess of twelve metres. Body weight estimates also vary, Gregory S. Paul estimated seven tonnes, a body mass also supported by Larramendi and Rubén Molina-Pérez. Both cranial and postcranial remains are known. The fossils are associated with the Cerro Castaño Member of the Cerro Barcino Formation (Chubut Province, southern Argentina).

Tyrannotitan chubutensis has been classified as a member of the Giganotosaurini tribe within the Carcharodontosauridae family. As such, it is thought to be closely related to Giganotosaurus carolini and Mapusaurus roseae. Originally, thought to be a basal carcharodontosaurid subsequent studies (Canale et al) has redefined this enigmatic group of carnivorous dinosaurs and identified that these apex predators were highly diverse immediately prior to their extinction.

The Mateo the Tyrannotitan figure from PNSO has an articulated lower jaw.

This dinosaur is pronounced “Tie-ran-oh-tie-tan”.  Tyrannotitan chubutensis translates as the tyrant lizard of Chubut Province.

Tyrannotitan and Patagotitan

The discovery of Tyrannotitan cranial material has helped palaeontologists to better understand the morphology of carcharodontosaurid skulls.  For example, new size estimates were calculated for the total skull length of Giganotosaurus carolini.  In addition, scientists are slowly piecing together a trophic pyramid of the fauna associated with the Cerro Barcino Formation.  For example, fifty-seven Tyrannotitan teeth were found in association with the giant titanosaur Patagotitan.  The discovery of these teeth suggests that Tyrannotitan may have scavenged the bodies of these colossal dinosaurs.  It is also quite likely that Tyrannotitan hunted young, sick and old titanosaurs.  Although, it would have been a brave theropod to take on a healthy, fully-grown Patagotitan.
