The new CollectA Sivatherium figure is coming into stock at Everything Dinosaur.  Mike and Sue are looking forward to the arrival of the 1:20 scale model.  It will be in stock next month (August). The model of “Shiva’s beast” is in 1:20 scale.

The CollectA Sivatherium Figure

This new for 2026 prehistoric animal model measures a fraction under sixteen centimetres long.  Those remarkable ossicones are around sixteen and half centimetres off the ground.  It represents a male Sivatherium giganteum. The Sivatherium forms part of the CollectA Other Prehistoric Animals model series. Model collectors have lobbied for a Sivatherium figure and CollectA have delivered in 2026. Fossils of S. giganteum come from the Siwalik Hills of India.

This prehistoric giraffid was formally named and described in 1836 (Falconer and Cautley). The CollectA figure depicts a powerful and robust animal. It has a strong, thick neck. The head is large and the muzzle tapers to a mouth with large, probably prehensile lips. These lips helped this enormous browser cope with tough thorns on the branches that it fed upon.

The CollectA Sivatherium figure has a scar on the left forelimb close to the scapula. This wound could have been caused by a predator. Sivatherium shared its ecosystem with some very large mammalian predators.  For example, there were sabre-toothed cats (Machairodontinae), other felids and other carnivores.  However, the damage to the animal’s shoulder could have been caused by a rival Sivatherium.  It is thought that just like modern giraffes, these large herbivores indulged in intra-specific combat.

A Model of a Prehistoric Giraffe

The Sivatherium genus was widespread. Fossils of species have been found in places as far apart as southern Africa and central Asia. Sivatherium giganteum was the largest species. Scientists have estimated that it was a heavy as an extant giraffe with males weighing more than 1.25 tonnes.
