PNSO to Add a New Nanotyrannus

By |2024-05-27T14:27:29+01:00July 13th, 2021|Categories: Adobe CS5, Dinosaur Fans, Everything Dinosaur News and Updates, Everything Dinosaur Products, Main Page, Photos of Everything Dinosaur Products, Press Releases|0 Comments

Everything Dinosaur can confirm that PNSO will add a replica of the controversial tyrannosaur Nanotyrannus to their mid-size model range. Logan the Nanotyrannus should be available from Everything Dinosaur in the late summer.

The new for 2021 PNSO Nanotyrannus dinosaur model.

The Controversy over Nanotyrannus

Nanotyrannus lancensis is a disputed taxon, attributed to fossil skeletal and skull specimens that overlapped in time and space with Tyrannosaurus rex. The shape of the skull that was constructed based on the disputed Nanotyrannus material is very different from that of T. rex, but palaeontologists now know that the body shape and skull morphology of the “king of the tyrant lizards” changed dramatically as this predator grew and matured.

PNSO Nanotyrannus

Named and described in 1988 (Bakker et al), based on a slender skull (CMNH 7541) from Lance Formation exposures in Montana, at the time the researchers concluded that the skull represented an adult animal, but this has been refuted by a number of authors since publication.

PNSO Nanotyrannus dinosaur model with an articulated jaw.
Like most of the other mid-size PNSO theropod figures, Logan the Nanotyrannus has an articulated lower jaw. The long and slender snout of Nanotyrannus on the PNSO model. Named and described in 1988, fossils assigned to N. lancensis are now believed to represent juvenile specimens of T. rex.

Nanotyrannus Model Measurements

The new for 2021 Nanotyrannus is the latest tyrannosauroid to be added to the PNSO mid-size model range following the introduction of the introduction of A-Shu the Qianzhousaurus and the recent announcements concerning Chuanzi the Tarbosaurus and Yinqi the Yutyrannus which are due to be in stock at Everything Dinosaur very soon (summer 2021).

The model measures 17 cm long and although PNSO does not propose a scale for their mid-size models, team members speculate that based on the original holotype material associated with Nanotyrannus which suggests an animal around 5.2 metres in length, the figure is in approximately 1:30 scale.

It Could Represent a Model of a Juvenile T. rex

A spokesperson from Everything Dinosaur stated:

“Whilst this taxon remains is dispute, model collectors and dinosaur fans will be delighted to see a replica of Nanotyrannus come into the PNSO model series. Recently, PNSO has focused on showcasing some of the remarkable fauna associated with the Late Cretaceous of North America and Logan the Nanotyrannus will be a welcome addition. It will no doubt foster a debate about whether Nanotyrannus is a valid genus but after all, this figure could always represent a juvenile T. rex and as such it will work well with the other Tyrannosaurus rex models that PNSO offers”.

An Exclusive Drawing of a Prehistoric Fish

By |2024-05-27T13:58:39+01:00July 10th, 2021|Categories: Dinosaur and Prehistoric Animal Drawings, Dinosaur Fans, Educational Activities, Everything Dinosaur News and Updates, Everything Dinosaur Products, Main Page, Photos of Everything Dinosaur Products, Press Releases|0 Comments

A few days ago, Everything Dinosaur published a drawing of the marine reptile Elasmosaurus that we had commissioned. Today, we publish an illustration of the monstrous prehistoric fish that was a contemporary of Elasmosaurus, another resident of “Hell’s Aquarium” otherwise known as the Western Interior Seaway. The fish is Xiphactinus and we have commissioned an illustration of this predator as we prepare for the arrival of the 1:40 scale CollectA Deluxe Xiphactinus replica in a few weeks’ time.

Xiphactinus “Sword Ray”

Xiphactinus was a large, bony fish that was both geographically and temporally widespread. The genus name is from the Latin and Greek and translates as “sword ray”, with some specimens over six metres in length, this was one very voracious predator and prehistoric animal model collectors have been keen to get a figure of Xiphactinus introduced into a mainstream model series.

A spokesperson from Everything Dinosaur commented that this prehistoric fish figure, along with the other remaining new for 2021 CollectA prehistoric animal figures should be in stock at Everything Dinosaur in August or thereabouts.

The spokesperson went onto explain that the Xiphactinus (pronounced Zee-fak-tin-us), drawing would be used in a fact sheet that would be sent out with purchases of this CollectA model.

A Change in the Tail

Observant readers will spot that the tail of our Elasmosaurus has been given a fin. This reflects some of the latest research into this Late Cretaceous, long-necked member of the Plesiosauria. The CollectA Elasmosaurus has also been given a tail fluke. Back in November 2020, when we announced the new for 2021 CollectA figures we created a short video highlighting the fossil evidence that supports the presence of a caudal fluke in members of the Plesiosauria.

Everything Dinosaur Fact Sheets

For virtually every named prehistoric animal model we supply, Everything Dinosaur researches and writes a fact sheet on that creature. These fact sheets are then sent out free to our customers with their model purchases. This is one of the ways in which team members help to inform and educate the public about the amazing animals that once existed on our planet.

Team members at Everything Dinosaur do all they can to respond to customer queries and questions. We appreciate how busy all our lives are and our hard-working staff are on standby to answer emails and to do all they can to help customers.

Take for example, an email we received from Sammy, who wanted to know about the dinosaur themed water bottle that we sell. Sammy asked:

“Is this dinosaur water bottle BPA free?”

The dinosaur and prehistoric animal themed water bottle available from Everything Dinosaur. The bottle holds 500 ml and the plastic that it is made from is BPA free.

BPA Free Dinosaur Water Bottle

This colourful dinosaur and prehistoric animal themed water bottle is indeed BPA free.

BPA (Bisphenol A), is a chemical used to make some plastics, including food storage containers and refillable drinks bottles. Microscopic amounts of this chemical can be transferred from packaging into the food and drinks that we consume, however the level of BPA found in food is not considered to be harmful.

The design on the dinosaur drinking bottle

BPA (Bisphenol A) Safety Assessments

Some people are concerned about BPA because it’s one of a large number of substances that could possibly interfere with human hormone systems. Extensive assessments have been carried out on BPA by the UK Food Standards Agency. Their current full assessment has found that dietary exposure to BPA is not a health concern for any age group.

However, Everything Dinosaur are pleased to confirm that this water bottle that we supply is BPA free.

New PNSO Allosaurus Model Review

By |2024-05-27T08:58:38+01:00June 22nd, 2021|Categories: Dinosaur Fans, Everything Dinosaur Products, Main Page, Photos of Everything Dinosaur Products, Product Reviews|0 Comments

Our thanks to dinosaur model collector William who sent into Everything Dinosaur an extensive review of the recently introduced PNSO Paul the Allosaurus dinosaur model. William postulated that this dinosaur model represented Allosaurus jimmadseni, a species of Allosaurus that was formally named and described last year (2020).

PNSO Paul the Allosaurus dinosaur model
The new for 2021 PNSO Allosaurus replica (Paul the Allosaurus). Our reviewer William postulated that this model represented a replica of the recently described Allosaurus jimmadseni.

Describing the Head

William commented that in his opinion the head differed slightly than that of Allosaurus fragilis in that it had a longer, slimmer profile. That the head of this dinosaur model represented a more gracile species such as A. jimmadseni. The new PNSO figure reflected a fast, pursuit predator differing from other Allosaurus species and other closely related theropods known from North America and Europe.

When referring to the prominent head crests, William commented:

“Paul’s head crest is the best of the best of any present day Allosaurus model, accurate compared to his movie franchise versions.”

PNSO Paul the Allosaurus dinosaur model
The new for 2021 PNSO Paul the Allosaurus dinosaur model has an articulated lower jaw, just like the majority of the theropod figures that PNSO have produced in the larger size model series. The prominent head crests praised by William in his review can be clearly seen in this image.

William added that the texture and execution of the skin folds around each of the glacier blue eyes makes each crest stand out even more. He also commented on the placement of the ear openings and the slight “shrink wrapping” effect caused by depicting the inferior temporal fenestra which was located just behind the eye socket.

Reviewing the Limbs on the PNSO Allosaurus

When reviewing the limbs of the dinosaur model, William stated that the forearms showed fantastic muscle definition, great claws and that the limbs were in an appropriate non-pronated position. The hind legs of this biped were also praised with William exclaiming that:

“PNSO know what to add and what to leave off their sculpts.”

When concluding his review of the hind legs, he noted the precise details associated with the foot claws.

Examining the Body

In the review, the torso was said to be of the highest design, not one inch is out of place and as with all PNSO figures a great deal of time and care has gone into the sculpt. The reviewer suggested that the figure would not appear out of place depicting an Allosaurus in the Sir Arthur Conan Doyle novel “The Lost World”.

From the Tip of the Snout to the Tail – An Allosaurus’s Allosaurus

Before moving on to comment upon the figure’s colouration the reviewer described it as being “from the tip of the snout to the tip of the tail we have an Allosaurus’s Allosaurus“. The colouration of the figure was described with the dark brown wash that had been applied to parts of the model singled out for praise. The painting of the mouth was complimented, the glacier blue eyes were regarded as a strong selling point.

The Tale of the Tape

In concluding his review, William provided some further information about the figure including model measurements.

Scale: 1/30th.
Height: 3. 5inches.
Length: 11.5 inches.
Clear plastic support stand & booklet/poster included.

Providing Details on Allosaurus

As well as reviewing the new for 2021 PNSO Paul the Allosaurus dinosaur model, William supplied some additional information on “different lizard”.

Time Period : Late Jurassic, 155–145 million years ago (Morrison Formation).
First described in 1877.

William commented that the sediments associated with the Morrison Formation of the western United States represent deposits from riverine and floodplain environments with contrasting wet and dry seasons. As well as many famous herbivorous dinosaurs, these Upper Jurassic sediments have provided fossils of numerous, large theropods. Allosaurus would have faced competition from massive megalosaurids such as Torvosaurus and ceratosaurs such as Ceratosaurus.

PNSO Morrison Formation Dinosaurs
PNSO celebrating dinosaurs known from the Upper Jurassic Morrison Formation of western North America.

Allosaurus jimmadseni

William reiterated his view that Paul the Allosaurus most likely represented Allosaurus jimmadseni. Fossil material now ascribed to this species formed the basis of the BBC’s Walking with Dinosaurs documentary “The Ballard of Big Al”. The documentary chronicled the life and death of an individual Allosaurus. He then provided further information about the fossils, where they were found and who discovered them.

To read about the formal description of Allosaurus jimmadseni: A New Species of Allosaurus.

William commented that in 2020, a new species of Allosaurus was announced (A. jimmadseni). The species name honours James H. Madsen the first, official state palaeontologist of Utah who has had a long and distinguished career helping to further our understanding of the predatory dinosaurs associated with the Morrison Formation.

Everything Dinosaur would like to thank William for submitting such a detailed and informative review of the PNSO Paul the Allosaurus dinosaur model.

Selecting a Neanderthal Figure for a Customer

By |2024-05-27T07:46:54+01:00June 19th, 2021|Categories: Adobe CS5, Dinosaur Fans, Everything Dinosaur News and Updates, Everything Dinosaur Products, Main Page, Photos of Everything Dinosaur Products|0 Comments

A customer contacted Everything Dinosaur asking for advice on how to get her recently purchased CollectA Neanderthal man model to balance. Getting a bipedal dinosaur model to stand can sometimes be tricky, getting a Neanderthal man to stand can be equally challenging especially as he stands holding a long spear and he has bare feet. When it comes to a human figure, sometimes the addition of some carefully oversized boots or shoes can help the knight/soldier/historical figure to stand.

Stable Stone Age Man

The design team at CollectA must be praised for introducing replicas of Neanderthals. The Neanderthal man and Neanderthal woman figures were first introduced into the CollectA Prehistoric Life range in 2012 and these models have proved popular with collectors. However, stability of figures such as these can be an issue.

The CollectA Neanderthal models, a Neanderthal woman and a Neanderthal man, these beautifully crafted figures were introduced into the CollectA Prehistoric Life range in 2012.

A Helping Hand

As part of our solution to help overcome the problem of having a cave man who is unsteady on his legs, a team member set about examining our stock of figures and finding a model that would stand fine on his own without the need for a Stone Age walking stick or some other prop.

A CollectA Neanderthal man model was selected and placed on one of the filing cabinets in our offices to ensure that this figure was perfectly stable on a hard surface. We can’t guarantee that these models are going to stand on a soft surface such as a carpet, but we do go to great lengths to help our customers out.

Not Just Dinosaurs

The CollectA Prehistoric Life range contains a wide variety of figures, not just dinosaurs but pterosaurs, ancient arthropods, iconic animals from the fossil record and all sorts of prehistoric mammal models. There are mammoths and sabre-tooth cats as well as more exotic extinct mammals such as a replica of Przewalski’s horse and the scale model series has a large range of prehistoric mammal figures too including a 1:20 scale model of the giant rhinoceros Elasmotherium.

PNSO Theropod Dinosaurs

Hot on the heels of the recently announced Tarbosaurus figure comes news of this Torvosaurus replica, another fantastic figure of an apex predator for dinosaur fans and model collectors to drool over. Two species are currently assigned to this genus – T. tanneri which was formally named in 1979 and the European T. gurneyi. Torvosaurus gurneyi was scientifically described just seven years ago.

Fossil remains attributed to Torvosaurus have been found as far afield as the western United States, Portugal and possibly southern England, South America and Tanzania. There may be more species to be added but for the time being, dinosaur model fans have this beautiful PNSO replica to admire.

Dino Hazard Irritator challengeri

YvY Figures contacted Everything Dinosaur a few weeks ago and enquired whether we were interested in stocking this figure, the first in the Dino Hazard series. In order to place such a product on the market, it is important to check the safety certificates and accreditation associated with the model.

Everything Dinosaur takes the safety of our customers extremely seriously and a sample was requested so that we could conduct our own independent safety tests.

Summarising New PNSO Model Releases

By |2024-05-26T21:44:37+01:00June 13th, 2021|Categories: Adobe CS5, Dinosaur Fans, Everything Dinosaur News and Updates, Everything Dinosaur Products, Main Page, Photos of Everything Dinosaur Products|2 Comments

Dinosaur model fans and collectors have been very impressed over the last twelve months or so with the large number of new model releases from the Chinese company PNSO. At a time when most factories have been struggling to obtain raw materials, PNSO have managed to set in motion a production plan that has seen a new model being announced every few weeks.

PNSO Haylee the Helicoprion
PNSO have added a replica of the Permian marine predator Helicoprion to their mid-size model range. Everything Dinosaur made an announcement about this new prehistoric fish replica in a joint collaboration with PNSO earlier in 2021.

Keeping up with PNSO Product Announcements

Everything Dinosaur would like to congratulate the design and production team at PNSO. They continue to delight prehistoric animal model collectors with their new model introductions and announcements. We do understand how challenging it can be for model collectors to keep up to date with all this exciting news. The Everything Dinosaur blog provides an invaluable and authoritative source of information and our dedicated team members frequently post up on social media too, these posts help to keep prehistoric animal model fans updated.

Providing Further Assistance

In a bid to provide further assistance to dinosaur model collectors, here is a list of the recently announced new prehistoric animal replicas being introduced by PNSO.

  • PNSO Chuanzi the Tarbosaurus 51
  • PNSO Jeff the Kronosaurus in the 1:35 scale scientific art
  • PNSO Stegosaurus Models (Biber and Rook) in the scientific art 1:35 scale
  • PNSO Haylee the Helicoprion 43

  • PNSO Austin the Pachycephalosaurus 46
  • PNSO Bronze Sinosauropteryx (limited edition sculptures)
  • PNSO Gamba the Carcharodontosaurus 50

In addition to providing the name of the animal we have also included (where applicable), the product inventory number as provided by PNSO on the company’s product packaging. Dinosaur model collectors can then get some insight into further potential announcements by noting which numbers in the numeric sequence have yet to be filled.

PNSO "Wilson" is based on an actual fossil exhibit.
The new PNSO “Wilson” the Tyrannosaurus rex replica is based on the museum specimen AMNH-5027. As well as mid-size model introductions PNSO made announcements about new scale models such as the new Wilson T. rex replica.

A spokesperson from Everything Dinosaur commented that the PNSO Austin the Pachycephalosaurus and Paul the Allosaurus would be in stock at Everything Dinosaur in a few days.
