Schleich Dinosaurs and Quetzalcoatlus Model get a Brief Movie Role

Schleich the German based model and figure manufacturer have created a short (fifty second), stop motion film featuring the ten prehistoric animal and dinosaur models from the World of History Model range.

Dinosaur Models

The first ten models introduced by the company are featured in this very creative video.  The dinosaurs do what dinosaurs do best and the azhdarchid pterosaur Quetzalcoatlus soars overhead.

This series of not to scale prehistoric animal models was introduced in the early part of 2012 and will replace the larger, scale model “Saurus” range.  The Velociraptor, Allosaurus, Giganotosaurus, Spinosaurus and the  T. rex in this model series all have articulated lower jaws, so the model can be posed with the mouth open or closed.

A spokesperson from the UK-based, dinosaur specialists Everything Dinosaur praised Schleich for the innovative way in which they have highlighted their prehistoric figures.

The spokesperson added:

“Prehistoric animals have a long history of being involved in the film industry, it is great to see the design team at Schleich creating their own monster movie”.

Prehistoric Insects in Amber Jelly – Simple Dinosaur Themed Treat

Another month is nearly at an end, it might be difficult to get over the concept of “Deep Time” when explaining aspects of the Earth Sciences but for us at the moment it is a question of wondering where 2012 has gone – time is whizzing by as we head towards Christmas.  Tonight being “All Hallows Eve” we thought we would get into the “spirit” of the occasion by putting up a short (4 mins 22 seconds) video that we made the other day explaining how to create prehistoric insects in amber – an ideal treat for Halloween fans or for budding palaeontologists.

In this video we explain how to make your very own preserved remains of insects in amber jelly squares.   It is easy to do, fun to make and with the jelly setting time taken into consideration this recipe takes about six hours (ten minutes to make up the jelly and so on but with about six hours required for the jelly pieces to set in the fridge).

We get asked a lot about dinosaur party food, this recipe is an ideal dessert for a dinosaur themed birthday party, but instead of individual portions we just make up a big bowl of jelly instead.

Papo Brachiosaurus Dinosaur Model

In this brief product review (video is a just under four minutes long), we provide a little more information on the new Papo Brachiosaurus.   This is the largest dinosaur model yet made by Papo, it was originally scheduled to be released in the early Summer and it has been worth waiting for.  Made with a leaning towards the more traditional image of the Brachiosauridae this is a fine replica and one that will prove popular with collectors no doubt.

To view the Papo range including a large range of dinosaurs and of course, sauropod figures: Papo Sauropod and Other Prehistoric Animal Figures.

To enquire about the Papo Brachiosaurus or to ask for more information about this particular Papo replica simply email Everything Dinosaur at: Email Everything Dinosaur.

If the likes of “Arm Lizard” were alive today then an adult could look into the window of a five-storey office block.  The arm and hand of the Brachiosauridae are exceptionally long and the humerus is longer than the femur so the shoulders are very high and the back slopes downwards.  Most Brachiosaurus remains are associated with strata laid down in the Upper Jurassic (Tithonian faunal stage).

Brachiosaurus Dinosaur Model

This model, like all the prehistoric animal models in the Carnegie Collectibles range has been approved by the palaeontologists at the Carnegie Museum of Natural History.  It shows the very latest scientific thinking concerning this Late Jurassic herbivore and great care has obviously gone into the model’s design.

A striking model that shows a new neck position, contrasting nicely with other Brachiosaur models that have a more “giraffe-like” stance and also look carefully to see where the nostrils have been placed.

An exciting new addition to the Safari Ltd range of dinosaur models.

“Wandering Horned Face” Put into the Spotlight

Concluding our reviews of the four new model introductions into the Wild Safari Dinosaur range (Safari Ltd), team members at Everything Dinosaur have put together this short video about the horned dinosaur Vagaceratops. Today, we unveil our Vagaceratops dinosaur model YouTube video review.  It is always a great pleasure to see a more unusual member of the ceratopsian clade get introduced into a mainstream model range.  This Vagaceratops from Safari Ltd shows lots of detail and it has been very carefully painted.

The re-assignment of, what was once thought to be Chamosaurus spp. fossil material has had important implications for palaeontologists as they try to build up a more complete picture of the dinosaur fauna living in both the northern and southern parts of the Cretaceous landmass known as Laramidia (western USA and Canada).

In this short review we point out the features on the model that reflect the known fossil record of ceratosaurs from the Upper Jurassic rocks of the Morrison Formation.  We provide a commentary on this model by Safari Ltd and highlight for example, the snout horn and the two prominent brow horns, the length of the tail and the detail of the paintwork.

This dinosaur model has proved to be very popular with dinosaur fans and model collectors. It is a wonderful replica of a Jurassic theropod dinosaur.

A Review of the New Wild Safari Dinos Dracorex Dinosaur Model (Safari Ltd)

Dracorex Dinosaur Model  Reviewed

Although known from only a few fragmentary fossils and a well-preserved skull, all found in the U.S. state of South Dakota, Dracorex has certainly inspired model makers and designers and a number of replicas of this member of the pachycephalosaur family have been produced.  Safari Ltd have introduced their own version, part of a number of new additions to the Wild Safari Dinosaurs and Prehistoric Life model series. Here is Everything Dinosaur’s video review of the Wild Safari Dinos Dracorex model.

Below is Everything Dinosaur’s video review of this dinosaur model.

In this short (five minute) video, we explain some of the features that can be seen on this replica and provide further information about the Dracorex fossils.

Wild Safari Dinos Dracorex

Although eminent palaeontologists such as Bob Bakker have cast doubt on the validity of the Dracorex genus, claiming that the fossil remains represent a juvenile of an already named and described pachycephalosaurid, most palaeontologists accept the Dracorex genus as valid, citing such evidence as the fused state of the skull bones and the condition of the cervical vertebrae (neck bones) to suggest that the fossil remains found do indeed, represent an adult animal.

A Review of the New Acrocanthosaurus Dinosaur Model

Safari Ltd have introduced four new dinosaur models into their eclectic Wild Safari Dinos model range.  Team members at Everything Dinosaur have written reviews on all four of these new introductions, Acrocanthosaurus, Dracorex, Ceratosaurus and the “wandering horned dinosaur” – Vagaceratops.  These reviews are going to be supplemented by video reviews of the new Safari replicas.  We aim to produce a five minute video showing the model, explaining how it reflects the fossil evidence and pointing out some interesting features about it and the prehistoric animal the model represents. Here is our review of the Wild Safari Dinos Acrocanthosaurus dinosaur model.

It is great to see a new interpretation of “High-spined Lizard”, a meat-eating dinosaur whose fossils have been discovered in Lower Cretaceous strata.

A Contender for Biggest Theropod

Acrocanthosaurus may be a contender for the largest known, land based, predatory prehistoric animal.  Palaeontologists have few fossils to study, but it has been estimated that Acrocanthosaurus (A. atokensis ) may have been more than twelve metres in length.  Trackways discovered in Texas (United States), might be those of Acrocanthosaurus, the age of the strata relates to the fossil bearing sediments in which the Acrocanthosaurus material was discovered.  If these foot prints are indeed those of Acrocanthosaurus, then it suggests that this dinosaur may have hunted in packs.
