Spinosaurus Reviewed

Amongst the twelve models in the new Schleich “World of History” prehistoric animal range, there is a Spinosaurus replica. Based on the “Saurus” Spinosaurus, this is a not-to-scale dinosaur model and we at Everything Dinosaur have produced a brief five minute video review.  It is interesting to note the choice of colour for this dinosaur.  Spinosaurus fossils are associated with lush, tropical, estuarine environments, however, the designers at Schleich have decided to give their replica a sandy-brown colour, camouflage more suited to arid, desert environments.

In common with the other theropod dinosaurs featured in this range – T. rex, Giganotosaurus, Velociraptor and Allosaurus, this Spinosaurus replica has an articulated lower jaw.  The model can be posed either mouth open or mouth closed.

Everything Dinosaur Praises Model

A spokesperson from Everything Dinosaur praised Schleich for adding more dinosaur replicas to their already extensive model range and commented that numerous model collectors and dinosaur fans had expressed their excitement about the introduction of this new Spinosaurus dinosaur model.

Video Review of New Schleich Velociraptor Model

Slowly but surely we are getting the promised video reviews of some of the new prehistoric animal models that have been released this year completed.  Below is Everything Dinosaur’s review of the new Velociraptor replica produced by Schleich as part of their “World of History” model series. Everything Dinosaur reviews the Schleich Velociraptor dinosaur model.

Like the other theropods in this range, Velociraptor has an articulated lower jaw.  It is intriguing to see a new replica of this Asian predator from the Late Cretaceous without any feathery covering.

There are a number of Velociraptor replicas on the market at the moment, most of the newly released ones have a covering of shaggy proto-feathers.   This model, made by Schleich of Germany bucks this trend, but there are hints of feathers on this replica – this five minute video explains.

The new Schleich Velociraptor dinosaur model is a welcome addition to this model series “World of History”.  A range of dinosaur, pterosaur, marine reptile and other prehistoric animal figures that has recently been expanded.

New Tyrannosaurus rex Model from Schleich of Germany

There has been a lot of interest in Schleich’s new, not-to-scale dinosaur model series that was introduced a few weeks ago.  This range sits halfway between the smaller “dinosaurs” range and the scale model series known as “Saurus”.  Schleich has modified and changed the designs for the twelve models that they have introduced. One of the new figures introduced is a new Schleich T. rex model.

Everything Dinosaur team members produced a brief video review of one of the new sauropod models (Brachiosaurus), this can be seen here: Brachiosaurus Model Reviewed.

The theropods featured in this range all have articulated lower jaws, below is the first of our reviews of these models, a review of the re-vamped Tyrannosaurus rex replica.

A brief (under five minutes), video review of the new Schleich “World of Dinosaurs” Brachiosaurus dinosaur model.  This new introduction from Schleich is a not-to-scale model of the Late Jurassic sauropod, it is one of twelve new prehistoric animal models introduced by the German manufacturer this year.

We were told once to never apologise for the visuals, but a quick apology with regards to the lighting quality.  This video was made in a dark boardroom on a very dark and stormy afternoon.  We could not to much to improve the lighting, hopefully our review will shed some light on this new model anyway.

With the introduction of this Brachiosaurus replica and its counterpart, the not-to-scale model of the diplodocid Apatosaurus it seems that Schleich has abandoned for the time being its attempts to market scale models of large dinosaur genera.  However, there is much to commend the Schleich Brachiosaurus dinosaur model.

A Review of the CollectA Kosmoceratops and Utahceratops

CollectA introduced recently another two excellent horned dinosaur models into their not-to-scale dinosaur model range.  As these two ceratopsians, Kosmoceratops and Utahceratops shared the same Late Cretaceous habitat team members at Everything Dinosaur decided to produce a video review featuring these dinosaur models together.

Kosmoceratops and Utahceratops

In this brief review (five minutes), we explain  how these two models reflect the actual fossil evidence and speculate why both these horned dinosaurs had brow horns that did not face forward as seen in dinosaurs such as Torosaurus and Triceratops.  Both the CollectA Utahceratops and the slightly smaller CollectA Kosmoceratops had brow horns that faced out sideways, like the horns seem on some types of cows today.  They make exciting additions to the range of CollectA dinosaurs.

We hope you enjoy our short video review of the CollectA Kosmoceratops and the CollectA Utahceratops dinosaur models.

Collecta Triceratops Dinosaur Reviewed

In recognition of the excellent new introductions into the CollectA dinosaur model range, we have produced a video review of one of the more unusual additions to the range – the CollectA dead Triceratops model.  CollectA have introduced a replica of dead Triceratops, a model that shows evidence that this large, Late Cretaceous herbivore had been attacked by a Tyrannosaurus rex.

We have praised the design team at CollectA for creating this dinosaur replica, indeed, we were keen to encourage CollectA to make this model and we have suggested that when the not-to-scale Triceratops figure is re-modelled that the livery and colour spectrum is changed to reflect the colour scheme seen on this replica.

Frogs, Blogs and All That Exciting News

By |2024-04-23T06:47:36+01:00March 3rd, 2012|Categories: Everything Dinosaur News and Updates, Everything Dinosaur videos|0 Comments

Monitoring the Frogs in the Office Pond

Over the years, we at Everything Dinosaur have done our bit to help conserve amphibians by monitoring the progress of frogs and frog spawn in the office pond.  The pond was cleaned out by Everything Dinosaur team members and we planted oxygenating pond-weed and other plants around the margins to help provide a habitat for frogs and other small creatures.

Conserve Amphibians

The pond had been established for a couple of years, before we had our first frogspawn laid in it.  That was back in 2008 and ever since we have been lucky to have observed frogs spawning every year, and the numbers of frogs in and around the pond seem to be growing.  Many ponds have dried up or have been filled in around our neighbourhood, so we are keen to help by providing a little bit of habitat for these creatures.  In return, we hope that the frogs will assist us and keep pest numbers down on our newly constructed vegetable garden – we shall wait and see.

Each year we record the date of the first frog activity being spotted in the pond as well as the date of the first frog spawn being laid.  This year frogs were seen in the pond around mid-February, roughly the same time as in 2011.  Spawn was laid on the 18th March last year, we shall see if the milder winter and the recent warm weather encourages the frogs to spawn a little earlier this year.

They are certainly very active and a number of “frog-orgies”, as we tend to call them have already occurred.  We made a short video of the rather amorous frogs “getting it on” as it were in the pond.

Sixteen Frogs

A few days ago we recorded sixteen frogs in the pond at the same time, a record for this location.  There are still a number of frogs which have taken up temporary residence, at least five, we think these are males waiting for females to arrive.

In 2010, frogs were first spotted in the pond on the 13th February, although no spawn was laid until the 21st March.  The earliest incidence of spawning took place in 2009 when we had frogs laying on the 1st March.  We shall see if the frogs spawn early again this year. With all the activity in the recent mild spring-like weather we had anticipated that the frogs would again spawn earlier, but so far no eggs have been laid.

We will just have to keep on watching.

Dinosaur Extinction (Part 2) – Mass Extinction a Unique Interpretation

Dinosaur Mass Extinction Event with Wind Up Dinosaur Toys

It seems that after the catastrophic  ex-terrestrial impact event some sixty-six million years ago, planet Earth was subjected to severe seismic shocks.  These powerful quakes in conjunction with the other devastating effects of an object some ten kilometres wide and travelling in excess of 30,000 metres per second slamming into the Yucatan peninsula, were causal factors in the mass extinction event that took place marking the end of the Mesozoic.

Mass Extinction

Whilst playing with our new wind up dinosaurs, and with no expense spared we thought we would have a go at creating our own interpretation of an earthquake event that helped bring about the demise of the Dinosauria et al.

Naturally, we cannot ignore data from the Deccan Traps (India) and other causal factors, but we thought the dinosaur wind ups were so cute that we should make another video featuring these dino playmates.
