Wind Up Dinosaur Toys – Bring out the Director in Us

The new wind up dinosaurs are proving to be very addictive.  Since they came into stock about a week ago, we have had them racing against each other, acting out the David Haye/Dereck Chisora boxing brawl, wandering across the warehouse floor and interrupting our regular Friday afternoon company meeting.   It seems that these little, plastic, blue (or orange) dinosaurs, toys based on a fearsome theropod, are a big hit amongst team members. Wonderful dinosaur toys to inspire creative play.

These funky wind ups are quite fun, just turn the lever at the back and watch them waddle all over the place.  Most seem to wander around in circles, a description often applied to me as I scoot round the warehouse trying to find items to fulfill orders.

They have even inspired us to take out the video camera and make a quick movie, our sort of interpretation of dinosaur extinction.

A Review of the Deinosuchus Crocodile Model

By |2023-03-08T14:03:53+00:00December 26th, 2011|Categories: Dinosaur Fans, Everything Dinosaur videos, Product Reviews|1 Comment

Deinosuchus (Carnegie Collectibles – Safari Ltd) by Everything Dinosaur

After team members at Everything Dinosaur produced a short video review of the Kaprosuchus prehistoric crocodile model, we were asked to create a video of the Deinosuchus replica.  Both these models are made by Safari Ltd, one is a terrestrial crocodile whereas, the other, Deinosuchus, was adapted to a life in water.

For models and replicas in the Safari Ltd model range available to purchase from Everything Dinosaur: Prehistoric Animal Figures and Models (Safari Ltd).

Deinosuchus Replica

Deinosuchus was a water-borne ambush predator, a formidable creature that lived in the Late Cretaceous of the southern United States.  This is an excellent replica, the Carnegie Collectibles Deinosuchus crocodile model.

Juvenile Tyrannosaurus rex on the Loose in a Local Museum

By |2023-01-25T09:27:54+00:00December 14th, 2011|Categories: Everything Dinosaur videos|0 Comments

T. rex Rampages through Museum

Recently team members from Everything Dinosaur worked at a museum that was holding a special dinosaur activities evening.   We spent our time digging for real fossils with the young, enthusiastic visitors, meanwhile, on the floor below us a young Tyrannosaurus rex, went on the rampage.  The juvenile T. rex was created by those clever people at Erth Visual and Physical, or was it?

Cryptozoologists beware, is this video evidence of tyrannosaur on the loose…

A Review of the Wild Safari Dinos Tyrannosaurus rex Model

By |2023-01-23T07:51:36+00:00October 25th, 2011|Categories: Everything Dinosaur videos|0 Comments

Updated Tyrannosaurus rex Model Available

It is always a pleasure to see a new model of Tyrannosaurus rex introduced.   It seems no prehistoric animal model series is complete without at least one version of this, most famous of all dinosaurs within its ranks.  We have prepared a short, five minute video review of the new T. rex model made by Safari Ltd.

Tyrannosaurus rex

Safari Ltd have added an updated replica of Tyrannosaurus rex to their Wild Safari Dinos range.  It may be more than 100 years since this particular dinosaur was formally named and described but T. rex’s popularity shows no signs of waning.  Virtually every major Natural History Museum in the world has a Tyrannosaurus rex exhibit as focal point within their collections and for this tyrannosaur we can confidently state that “rex” remains the most popular dinosaur of them all.

Everything Dinosaur’s Video Review of this New T. rex Model

This video is one of twenty-two videos that we have made.  There are all available on Everything Dinosaur’s YouTube channel (Everything Dinosaur – “DinosaurMike1”), as always we welcome comments.

Tyrannosaurus rex may be the most iconic of all the dinosaurs, but the tyrannosaur family are a bit of an enigma, how these large, Late Cretaceous predators evolved has remained very much of a mystery to palaeontologists.  However, over the last ten years or so, our understanding of these most famous of all the dinosaurs has grown tremendously as new discoveries have been made and new research techniques to existing fossils applied and this new model brings the latest research into T. rex into dinosaur fan’s model collections.

A Review of the Guanlong Dinosaur Model (Wild Safari Dinos)

By |2023-03-08T14:00:37+00:00October 21st, 2011|Categories: Dinosaur Fans, Everything Dinosaur videos|0 Comments

Basal Tyrannosauroid Reviewed – Guanlong

One of the earliest members of that great theropod dynasty – the Tyrannosauroidea, Guanlong (Guanlong wucaii) has been a favourite for many years, well at least since 2006, the year this dinosaur was formally named and described. Team members at Everything Dinosaur have produced a short video review of the Guanlong dinosaur model (Wild Dinos – Safari Ltd).

This particular meat-eater, roamed the woodlands of what was to become north-western China in the Late Jurassic.  Measuring just three metres long and just 1.2 metres high at the hips, this fast running predator is believed to be a distant ancestor of the Late Cretaceous apex tyrannosaur predators of the Northern Hemisphere.  It is hard to believe that this cursorial dinosaur with its long grasping hands and three, clawed fingers was an ancestor of Tyrannosaurus rex, Albertosaurus, Gorgosaurus and Appalachiosaurus.

Guanlong Dinosaur Model

We were delighted when Safari Ltd introduced a colourful model of this dinosaur, an addition to their Wild Safari Dinos model range.  A video review of this replica has been posted up on our Youtube channel and on Everything Dinosaur’s Facebook page.  We hope you like our video review of the Wild Safari Dinos Guanlong dinosaur model.

Everything Dinosaur Reviews the Guanlong Model

Comments and feedback would be welcome.  One thing worth noting, as fossils of Guanlong’s relative Dilong (Cretaceous dinosaur) have been interpreted as having proto-feathers, the model makers have followed the trend to show Guanlong covered in primitive feathers.  We like the way the coat of navy blue down contrasts with this dinosaur’s distinctive head crest, although are not sure how accurate the tail plume is.

The unusual crest that ran along the top of the snout was very thin and delicate, too delicate to be used in combat.  It was probably used for display either to attract a mate or to show maturity or perhaps to settle intraspecific squabbles.

A Review of the Carnotaurus Model (Safari Ltd)

Carnegie Collectibles Carnotaurus Model Under the Spotlight

As always, it is a pleasure to see a new addition to the Carnegie Collectibles dinosaur model range (made by Safari Ltd).  As fans of abelisaurids the introduction of a new 1:30 scale replica of Carnotaurus, a giant Cretaceous predator was most welcome.  With some time in the boardroom booked, we set up our mini studio, grabbed the company’s handy cam and set to work.

Here is the review of the Carnotaurus model:

A Review of the Miragaia (Stegosaur Model) – Safari Ltd

By |2023-03-08T13:38:28+00:00October 2nd, 2011|Categories: Everything Dinosaur videos|0 Comments

The Miragaia Stegosaur Model from Safari Ltd

It is always exciting when Safari Ltd introduces a new replica into their premier prehistoric animal model range – Carnegie Collectibles.  These scale models are authenticated by the palaeontologists at the Carnegie Museum of Natural History (Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, United States).  We were delighted to hear that a new stegosaur model was on its way a couple of years ago and within twelve months we had it confirmed that it was going to be a European stegosaur – none other than the Portuguese Late Jurassic stegosaur called Miragaia.

Naturally, when the model came out we were happy to write reviews and articles on this new replica, after all, any stegosaur who had more cervical vertebrae than an Apatosaurus is a winner in our eyes.  We also turned our little boardroom into a film studio and shot a brief video about this introduction from Safari Ltd.  It is a pleasure to see a Carnegie Collectibles Miragaia dinosaur model added to the Carnegie Collectibles dinosaur model series.

Edmontosaurus Review – So Much More than T. rex Food

By |2023-01-21T10:08:34+00:00September 24th, 2011|Categories: Dinosaur Fans, Everything Dinosaur News and Updates, Everything Dinosaur videos, Main Page|0 Comments

Edmontosaurus Model (Safari Ltd) Review

The amazing three tyrannosaur exhibition mount at the newly refurbished Los Angeles County Museum features an Edmontosaurus as well.  Alongside the T. rex nick-named “Thomas” and his/her chums there is the fossil of an Edmontosaurus, a duck-billed dinosaur.  This exciting diorama shows three tyrannosaur skeletons all different ages, a two-year old, an animal that died aged perhaps thirteen years old and the biggest specimen represents a T. rex in its late teens.  The Edmontosaurus is depicted as the victim, it is the corpse upon which these tyrannosaurs are about to feast in the L. A. Museum’s scenario.

Edmontosaurus Dinosaur Model

Whilst there are a number of Edmontosaurus fossils that suggest that this four tonne herbivore was part of a Tyrannosaurus rex diet, we think that it is time for Edmontosaurus to step into the spotlight and to be given some attention.  After all, as one of the last dinosaurs to evolve, it was very big for a hadrosaur and as a genus it was extremely widespread and if the Late Cretaceous fossil record of North America is anything to go by it was very numerous, roaming what was to become Alaska, Alberta, and Montana in huge herds.

The introduction of a new Edmontosaurus replica into the Wild Safari Dinos model range (Safari Ltd) gave us the chance to make a video review featuring Edmontosaurus.

Everything Dinosaur’s Review of Edmontosaurus (Safari Ltd)

In this video, we use this new model to highlight some of the knowledge that palaeontologists have been able to build up based on the extensive Edmontosaurus fossil material.  We discuss why the model has been painted the way that it has, how the hooves and skin have been depicted and reflect on the interaction between this ornithopod and T. rex with whom it shared its environment.

To view the range of Safari Ltd’s dinosaur models including the Wild Safari Dinos Edmontosaurus: Models of Dinosaurs including duck-billed Dinosaurs (Safari Ltd).

We go on to explain why Edmontosaurus was chosen as the “victim” for the three T. rex exhibit at the L. A. Museum and provide answers to the question as to why this model has such a deep tail – enjoy.

Prehistoric Sharks Toob – Video Review

By |2023-01-21T09:33:32+00:00September 19th, 2011|Categories: Everything Dinosaur videos, Main Page, Product Reviews|0 Comments

Prehistoric Sharks Model Set by Safari Ltd

It is not very common to see a prehistoric shark model swim into view, let alone a set of ten from a mainstream model maker.  However, this is exactly what you get with the Prehistoric Sharks Toob from Safari Ltd.  Whether it is primitive sharks from the Devonian or Cretaceous giants such as Cretoxyrhina that get your shark fins swishing with excitement this set of ten models is a credit to the manufacturer.

The video shown above is available on Everything Dinosaur’s YouTube channel.

With palaeontologists able to trace the evolution of sharks back some 420 million years, some might say that  a museum quality set of prehistoric shark models was somewhat overdue.  This set of ten prehistoric shark models made by Safari Ltd showcases the diversity of forms that these cartilaginous fish evolved into.   There may be more than 400 species of shark alive today, but there have been thousands of species of shark that are now extinct .  Scientists know that the fossil record of these superb, streamlined creatures stretches back to the Late Silurian and the models made by Safari Ltd highlight some of the bizarre forms that these members of the Elasmobranchii evolved into.

To view Everything Dinosaur’s range of prehistoric animal models including models from the Wild Safari Prehistoric World series: Wild Safari Prehistoric Animal Models and Replicas.

The ten, well-painted and colourful models represent key genera of shark that lived during the Palaeozoic and the Mesozoic eras.  Sharks such as Cladoselache (pronounced Klad-oh-sel-lak-ee) from the Devonian, the Age of Fishes and the fearsome Cretoxyrhina (Cre-tox-ee-rhine-ah) from the Western Interior Seaway of the Late Cretaceous.  The model makers have shown great care in making their selection of which extinct sharks to make replicas of.  They have included a number of important sharks in terms of their significance to the fossil record and highlight the myriad of forms that these predatory fishes evolved into.

Perhaps our favourite is Stethacanthus (Steth-ack-anth-thus), the “ironing board” shark, so called due to the bizarre shape of this shark’s dorsal fin.  It certainly is a great set of Safari Ltd prehistoric sharks.
