New for 2020 Papo Parasaurolophus (Sneak Peek)

By |2024-01-14T14:06:23+00:00February 4th, 2020|Categories: Adobe CS5, Dinosaur Fans, Everything Dinosaur News and Updates, Everything Dinosaur Products, Everything Dinosaur videos, Main Page, Photos of Everything Dinosaur Products|0 Comments

New for 2020 Papo Parasaurolophus (New Colour Variant)

Fans of the Papo “Les Dinosaures” model collection may have a little while yet to wait for the new for 2020 prehistoric animal figures to become available.  However, this does not stop Everything Dinosaur team members from posting up pictures and further information about these eagerly anticipated replicas.  For example, recently a member of staff was able to get their hands on the new for 2020 Papo Parasaurolophus in the new “striped” colour scheme.

Plenty of pictures were taken, as our Facebook and Instagram followers will testify to, but we also shot a short video so that our customers can see the model in the “flesh” as it were.

Papo Parasaurolophus

This popular dinosaur is one of five new dinosaurs to be added to the Papo portfolio this year.  Joining it will be Chilesaurus, Stygimoloch, Giganotosaurus and a new colour version of the feathered Velociraptor.  Details of these dinosaur models can be found here: Everything Dinosaur Announces New Papo Dinosaurs for 2020.

The model is the same sculpt as the original Papo Parasaurolophus, but it has been given a striking makeover and the colour scheme chosen by the design team is vibrant and carefully thought through.  For example, fossil specimens of Parasaurolophus spp. have been associated with forested environments, after all, these large herbivores fed on a variety of plant materials including conifers.

The striped markings on the flanks, legs and tail would have helped to camouflage this large animal as it moved through woodland (helping to break up its body outline).

Camouflage for a Dinosaur

In addition, this body pattern would also have given a degree of protection as the colour scheme can prevent a predator from selecting an individual to attack.  Note also, the brighter colours associated with that splendid crest and the head/neck region.  This is probably a nod towards the hypothesis that these social animals used colour cues to indicate maturity and social status within the herd.

Replacing the Early “Green” Papo Parasaurolophus

This new replica is replacing the original “green” Parasaurolophus figure in this range.  Although team members at Everything Dinosaur have been able to secure some stock of the original Parasaurolophus model, so collectors can still acquire this figure.

A Terrific “Battle Damaged” Pachycephalosaurus

By |2024-01-14T10:50:27+00:00January 30th, 2020|Categories: Adobe CS5, Dinosaur Fans, Everything Dinosaur Products, Everything Dinosaur videos, Main Page, Photos of Everything Dinosaur Products, Product Reviews|0 Comments

Wild Safari Prehistoric World Pachycephalosaurus with “Battle Damage”

The new for 2020 Wild Safari Prehistoric World Pachycephalosaurus model is a little bit special.  Naturally, it is beautifully painted and an accurate depiction of a Late Cretaceous “bone-headed” dinosaur, but the design team at Safari Ltd have taken care to introduce an element of subtle “battle damage” to their figure.  It is a case of a dinosaur model demonstrating some “pachycephalosaur pathology”.

“Pachycephalosaur Pathology”

To help collectors and dinosaur fans to see what we mean, team members at Everything Dinosaur put together this short video.

A Pachycephalosaurus Model Demonstrates that Dinosaurs Had Tough Lives

In this short video, (it lasts a little over two minutes long), we show the model and provide close-up views of the brown mark on its skull.  This is not a flaw in the particular replica we use in the video, to prove it we show another figure from our stock, with exactly the same feature.  The design team at Safari Ltd have provided their Pachycephalosaurus figure with a little bit of “battle damage”, perhaps after a fight with another Pachycephalosaurus over social status in the herd, or perhaps in a dispute over food.

The Wild Safari Prehistoric World Pachycephalosaurus model might have damaged his headgear whilst competing for females.  After all, extant male red deer, the bucks, do damage their antlers in the autumn rut, when they are fighting to win the right to mate.

An Accurate Pachycephalosaurus Model

A spokesperson from Everything Dinosaur commented:

“Safari Ltd have gone that extra mile by thinking carefully how they could reflect inferred behaviour in their Pachycephalosaurus dinosaur model.  We congratulate the design team for their foresight and consideration.  This is a very detailed figure and it is intriguing to see the little extra details that have been incorporated into the sculpt.”

The Everything Dinosaur YouTube channel contains lots of helpful and informative videos about dinosaurs and other prehistoric animals.  Team members try to post up a new video once a week and with all these new Safari Ltd models, our script writers are going to be kept very busy.

The New Rebor “Broodlord” X-REX Has Arrived

Rebor “Broodlord” X-REX Has Arrived

The eagerly anticipated xenomorph/dinosaur crossover from Rebor has arrived at Everything Dinosaur.  The 1:35 scale “Broodlord” X-REX is now in stock.  Model collectors have got a new branch of the Rebor replica family tree to get excited about.  This detailed model (Rebor Broodlord) has a wet-look about it, courtesy of the metallic colour scheme, our congratulations to the design team at Rebor for coming up with such an imaginative sculpt.

Rebor Broodlord – Your Flexible Friend!

The tailpiece fits neatly into the slot at the back of the model.  Do not be alarmed if your figure does not balance very well when first removed from its packaging.  Once that long, flexible tail has been inserted the figure is perfectly stable.  The rotatable arms, four back extensions and the extended tongue with the jaw can be found in a small, plastic bag at the bottom of the foam protection.  Carefully remove these pieces and fit into your model.  The beautifully sculpted tail, is quite flexible and we liked to pose our figure with the tail slightly curved round (as shown in the picture above).

Assembling the Rebor Replica

Examine the back extensions carefully, each piece fits into its own bespoke slot on the model.  Adding the tongue/jaw element can be a bit a tricky, we suggest collectors examine the inside of the lower jaw of their model to identify the slot for this piece.  Take care when inserting the tongue, we found that to secure this part in place a cocktail stick or tweezers could be used to push the peg on the bottom of the tongue into the slot on the floor of the mouth.

The Rebor Broodlord X-REX Metallic Variant (1:35 scale) is certainly an amazing model.  There are plans to introduce three more figures by the end of 2020.  A figure is expected every three months or so for the rest of the year, pictures of the proposed figures can be found on the back of the “Broodlord” box.  Collectors have a lot to look forward to in 2020.

Wild Safari Prehistoric World Pachycephalosaurus “Battle Damage”

Wild Safari Prehistoric World Pachycephalosaurus “Battle Damage”

Sometimes a model manufacturer goes that little bit further when it comes to adding a degree of authenticity to its figures.  A case in point is Safari Ltd and their recently introduced Wild Safari Prehistoric World, Pachycephalosaurus.  This beautifully painted replica depicts an injury to the skull of this “bone-headed” dinosaur.  There is a small, brown-coloured mark on top of the skull.  Eagle-eyed Everything Dinosaur team members noticed this feature when looking at pre-production images, but it had been difficult to spot in some promotional shots.

However, we can confirm this little bit of pachycephalosaur pathology is indeed an integral part of the model.

The Pathology of Pachycephalosaurus

A number of theories have been put forward as to why pachycephalosaurs tended to have highly ornate, often very thick skulls.  These anatomical features probably did not evolve to protect their brains, the brains of these types of dinosaur are proportionately no bigger than many other types of ornithischians.  They probably did not have a defensive role, after all, to a large tyrannosaurid a thick, reinforced skull would have been not much of an obstacle to overcome if it were fortunate to catch a pachycephalosaur.

Many palaeontologists believe these characteristics evolved as these animals competed with each other in combat over hierarchical status in the herd, or the right to mate.   This theory was, we believe, first postulated by the distinguished American vertebrate palaeontologist Edwin Colbert in 1954.  Since then, a number of studies have been undertaken to verify/refute this idea: Study Sheds New Light on the Intraspecific Combat of Pachycephalosaurs.

However these Late Cretaceous dinosaurs used their heavily ornate and robust headgear remains open to speculation, but one thing is for sure, the Wild Safari Prehistoric World Pachycephalosaurus model certainly shows lots of detail.

The Amazing Stegosaurus armatus – Thank You Rebor

By |2024-05-07T13:52:59+01:00January 20th, 2020|Categories: Dinosaur Fans, Everything Dinosaur News and Updates, Everything Dinosaur Products, Everything Dinosaur videos, Main Page, Photos of Everything Dinosaur Products, Press Releases|0 Comments

Stegosaurus armatus – Thank You Rebor

In December, Everything Dinosaur received stocks of the 1:35 scale Rebor Stegosaurus armatus dinosaur model.  This beautiful figure is available in three colour schemes, “plain”, “woodland” and many team member’s personal favourite – “mountain”.

We had been asked to demonstrate how the tailpiece fitted into the model and we did produce a short video demonstrating how to insert the tail into the slot at the back of the figure, but we had more footage so we have posted up a slightly longer video that provides a little more detail about this excellent armoured dinosaur replica.

Providing More Information About the Rebor Stegosaurus armatus Figure

In this short video, (it is a little under one minute forty-five seconds in length), we show the “mountain” colour scheme figure as well as images of the two other colour variants “plain” and “woodland”.  We comment on the tailpiece and demonstrate how to connect it to the body.  In addition, we briefly discuss the fossil material that was once the type specimen for the Stegosaurus genus.

This fossil material was very incomplete, only the rear portion of the animal was preserved and only one iconic plate was found in association.  The fossils once ascribed to S. armatus, were replaced as the designated type material for the genus by much more complete Stegosaurus stenops material in a ruling by the International Commission on Zoological Nomenclature (ICZN), in 2013.

We take this opportunity to thank Rebor for producing such an excellent dinosaur model.

The Taxonomy of the Stegosauridae

Stegosaurus might be an iconic dinosaur, but compared to the horned dinosaurs of the Late Cretaceous such as Triceratops and its close relatives, there remains a lot of debate as to the exact taxonomic make-up of the Stegosauridae.

How to Insert the Tail – Rebor Stegosaurus armatus 1:35 Scale Figure

Just before Christmas, Everything Dinosaur received stocks of the 1:35 scale Rebor replica Stegosaurus armatus.  Dinosaur fans and model collectors will probably know that this figure is available in three colour schemes – “mountain”, “plain” and “woodland”.  Since these exciting figures came into stock, Everything Dinosaur team members have posted up several pictures of these dinosaurs.  Today, following a request from a Rebor collector, we have produced a short video which shows how to connect the tail to the model.

Rebor Stegosaurus Models – A Sixty Second Update

The video lasts approximately sixty seconds.  The model is shown and the narrator explains how the figure is supplied (the tail piece can be found in the box, adjacent to the rest of the figure), then how the tail slots into the model is demonstrated.  One firm push should do the trick, the tail fitting snuggly into the aperture.  In the video, the flexibility of the tail is illustrated and compared to the neck which is also flexible.

Wild Safari Prehistoric World

Safari Ltd has continued to build on its reputation for producing accurate prehistoric animal models and figures. This range reflects some of the latest scientific research and thinking.  For example, joining this award-winning range, is a replica of the Late Cretaceous hadrosaur Edmontosaurus.  Recent studies of fossil specimens from North America have led to palaeontologists postulating that this large ornithischian sported a soft comb-like crest on the top of its skull.  The Edmontosaurus figure has been given such an adornment, all part of Safari Ltd’s drive to reflect actual research into the Dinosauria and other long-extinct creatures from the past.

New Models Based on Recent Fossil Discoveries

Safari Ltd are quick to introduce models and figures that reflect relatively recent fossil discoveries.  Take for example, the excellent Shringasaurus model, it represents an extinct reptile (archosauromorph), that was only formally named and described in August 2017.

Spotting a Gomphotherium in a Tidy Classroom

Spotting a Gomphotherium

Whilst on a visit to a school to deliver a series of dinosaur and fossil themed workshops to lower Key Stage 2 classes, one of our team members at Everything Dinosaur was given the opportunity to view some of the work carried out by the Year six children as they studied Darwinism and natural selection as part of their curriculum.

Several of the children had collaborated on poster displays providing an outline of Darwin’s ground-breaking theory regarding how populations change due to the transfer of heritable traits from one generation to another.  The posters included details of Darwin’s life such as his voyage on the Beagle, his work on the finches on the Galapagos Islands and of course, the publication of his book “The Origin of Species” and its consequences for academia and the wider world.

Gomphotherium

One part of the display focused on the evolution of the elephant family (Order Proboscidea) and our eagle-eyed team member spotted an image of the CollectA Deluxe 1:20 scale Gomphotherium model that had been used to help illustrate different genera of ancient elephants.

An Image of the CollectA Deluxe 1:20 Scale Gomphotherium Model Features in the Display

Prehistoric Elephants

Many different types of prehistoric elephant were featured in the posters.  For example, one of the earliest and most primitive members of the elephant family – Moeritherium was featured, along with Deinotheres and representatives of the Mammuthus genus.

Picking Out a Papo Allosaurus for a Customer

The original Papo Allosaurus dinosaur model, a staple of the Papo “Les Dinosaures” model range, has been withdrawn from production and retired.  However, Everything Dinosaur still has stock of this popular theropod figure and a customer from Canada emailed us asking for more information about this particular Papo model and wanted to see some photographs of an Allosaurus prior to making a purchase.

Naturally, our dedicated, enthusiastic team members were happy to oblige.

Commenting on the response to the Canadian customer’s request a spokesperson from Everything Dinosaur stated:

“We get a lot of prehistoric animal model collectors asking us about models that have been recently retired.  We try our best to carry stock of as many different models and figures as possible.  If a customer requests a photograph of a figure prior to purchase, then we are happy to do this for them.  We select a model, take the photographs and email them over to the customer, if they are happy with the model, then we set it aside and when the order is placed we send out the figure.”

News of Papo Model Retirements

Recently, Everything Dinosaur provided information on Papo prehistoric animal figures that are being retired this year (2020), in total four Papo models are being withdrawn: Papo Model Retirements (2020).

Rebor Broodlord X-REX Pre-Order Available

Rebor will be introducing four brand new, innovative figures this year which combine elements of science-fiction with the Dinosauria.  The first of these figures “Broodlord”, the X-REX metallic variant will be available from Everything Dinosaur around the end of February and this model is available now for pre-order.

Science Fiction Combined with Science – Ne Plus Ultra!

Those talented people at Rebor have combined the anatomies of a Tyrannosaurus rex with an alien xenomorph to create this stunning and magnificently detailed collector’s item.  When Henry Fairfield Osborn described Tyrannosaurus rex in 1905, he justified the “tyrant lizard king” genus by stating:

“Tyrannosaurus, in reference to its size, which far exceeds that of any carnivorous land animal hitherto described”.   The famous American palaeontologist added…

“This animal is in fact the ne plus ultra for the evolution of the large carnivorous dinosaurs, in brief it is entitled to the royal and high sounding group name which I have applied to it.”

“Ne plus ultra” reflects Osborn’s view that T. rex was the ultimate theropod dinosaur, the apex in carnivorous dinosaur evolution.  It is true that more recent fossil discoveries have led palaeontologists to describe a number of gigantic and terrifying meat-eaters, but none have the popular appeal of the “tyrant lizard king”.

How fitting therefore for the design team at Rebor, to use a 1:35 scale Tyrannosaurus rex sculpt as the basis for this, the first of four fantasy figures that the company intends to introduce this year.

Rebor X-REX “Broodlord” (Metallic Variant)

Measuring around 43 cm from those monstrous, double jaws to the tip of that alien tail, this figure demonstrates stunning detail and the careful painting provides a demonic, wet-look to the model.  It certainly is a remarkable cross-over between two popular genres.  X-REX has a removable tongue, the arms can be rotated and placed in different poses and the tail is flexible, so it too can be posed in a variety of positions.

A wonderful science fiction/fantasy model from Rebor, the Rebor Broodlord X-REX metallic variant.  Customers can cancel pre-orders at any time before the payment falls due.

A spokesperson from Everything Dinosaur commented:

“We have set up a pre-order function at Everything Dinosaur in response to requests from our customers.  As model and figure collectors too, if our customers ask for something we try to deliver it.  Our customers can now order products before they are available, but there is no fee to pay up front, no need for a deposit, payments will be made on release of the figure when it is ready to despatch from our warehouse.  This is an additional service we are providing and with the imminent introduction of such an exciting Rebor figure as this X-REX, it seems a fitting time to roll this feature out.”
