CollectA Deluxe Dreadnoughtus Video Review

CollectA Deluxe Dreadnoughtus YouTube Video Review

A spokesperson for the UK-based mail order company explained that the video was currently being edited and there was a short section describing the fossil discovery still to be filmed. It was hoped that the YouTube video would be posted up in a few days.

Dreadnoughtus was scientifically described in 2014 (Lacovara et al). Although body mass estimates have been challenged it remains one of the largest terrestrial vertebrates known to science. The genus contains a single species D. schrani. Two skeletons were found, and between them about 45% of the total skeleton of this huge titanosaur has been documented and described.

The video will highlight some of the features on the prototype model. It will cover colour choice, the arrangement of the dermal armour and the inclusion of thumb claws. The narrator will ask what other sauropod figures would you like CollectA to make?

This video is one of a series of Everything Dinosaur YouTube videos that focus on the new model introductions from CollectA. The CollectA Deluxe Dreadnoughtus video review will be posted up on the Everything Dinosaur YouTube channel in a few days.

Everything Dinosaur has been contacted by Haolonggood with a request to provide feedback. Our Chinese chums would like to know what people think of the Haolonggood dinosaur models. Customers of Everything Dinosaur are aware of how well-connected team members are. We are happy to pass on comments and feedback on behalf of our customers. In addition, Haolonggood have asked for some suggestions for new dinosaur figures. We would be delighted to pass on these suggestions.

Feedback on Haolonggood Dinosaur Models

The team at Haolonggood have asked two specific questions:

What do our customers like about Haolonggood models?
What other dinosaur models would you like Haolonggood to develop?

A spokesperson from Everything Dinosaur commented that it was always helpful to receive feedback from customers. Manufacturers also benefitted from comments made by customers and dinosaur model fans.

The spokesperson added:

“Haolonggood were keen to listen to model collectors and they recently amended their Ouranosaurus figure, improving the manus. The changes were made in line with customer expectations.”

New Model Suggestions

Haolonggood have challenged model collectors to propose new figures for their extensive range. Everything Dinosaur is looking forward to passing on the suggestions. The company has received several already, quite an eclectic range, more theropods as well as ornithischians.

The spokesperson explained that the product label states that this is a Tyrannosaurus rex skeleton beanie hat. However, we and many young dinosaur fans we suspect, will know that the skeleton featured is not a T. rex.

New CollectA Models for 2024 – Part 2

Everything Dinosaur in collaboration with CollectA makes the second announcement about new for 2024 CollectA prehistoric animal models. Today, we can introduce two new CollectA dinosaurs namely:

A CollectA Deluxe 1:100 scale Dreadnoughtus.
CollectA Deluxe Velociraptor in 1:6 scale.

The CollectA Deluxe Dreadnoughtus is scheduled to be in stock at Everything Dinosaur early in 2024. Dinosaur fans will have to wait a little longer for the new Velociraptor figure. It is expected later in the year.

CollectA Deluxe Dreadnoughtus

Formally named and described in 2014 (Lacovara et al), Dreadnoughtus (D. schrani) is one of the largest terrestrial vertebrates known to science. Most super-sized titanosaurs are described from fragmentary material. Dreadnoughtus is an exception, approximately 45% of the skeleton was recovered. These fossils have provided palaeontologists with new information on the anatomy of giant dinosaurs.

Dreadnoughtus model scars. — The Dreadnoughtus fossil material comes from the Cerro Fortaleza Formation and there are theropods known from these deposits too, but not super-sized carnivores. The megaraptoran Orkoraptor is probably the largest carnivorous dinosaur, scars on the legs of Dreadnoughtus indicate attacks from packs of these animals, but they did not really stand much chance of bringing this huge dinosaur down. The new for 2024 CollectA Deluxe 1:100 scale Dreadnoughtus measures 32 cm in length and that beautiful head stands approximately 23.5 cm off the ground.

CollectA Deluxe Velociraptor

Next year (2024) marks the centenary of the scientific description of Velociraptor. This famous dinosaur (Velociraptor mongoliensis) was first described in 1924 (Osborn). To commemorate the hundred years since this dinosaur was first named, CollectA have introduced a 1:6 scale figure that reflects the very latest research.

The CollectA Deluxe Velociraptor depicts this iconic dinosaur as an extremely agile and active animal. The plumage has been updated and the Velociraptor figure sports a propatagium, a flap of soft tissue linking the wrists to the shoulders, a feature it shares with living birds that can fly.

The integumentary covering reflects the latest scientific thinking, and the Velociraptor is portrayed as a dynamic, extremely active animal.

The New PNSO Samuel the Alamosaurus Model

PNSO is to add a replica of the Late Cretaceous Alamosaurus to its model range. This superb replica of a North American sauropod is due to be in stock at Everything Dinosaur before the end of the year. The PNSO Alamosaurus dinosaur model measures 41.5 cm long. The Alamosaurus figure is 18.5 cm tall.

The PNSO Alamosaurus Dinosaur Model

Samuel the Alamosaurus is the latest sauropod to be added to the impressive PNSO model range. It will be supplied with a Sci-Art, colour poster (A3-sized). In addition, a QR code on the packaging will link customers to a video about this huge dinosaur. The Alamosaurus packaging will also contain a 64-page, full-colour booklet illustrating this herbivore.

Alamosaurus sanjuanensis

Alamosaurus sanjuanensis was named and described in 1922. Fossils associated with this huge dinosaur have been found in numerous Upper Cretaceous exposures covering the south-western United States. Size estimates vary, but a body length of around thirty metres has been proposed. Alamosaurus is the largest dinosaur described to date from Upper Cretaceous deposits of North America.

The notes that Everything Dinosaur received from PNSO made no reference to model scale. If this dinosaur did have a length of around thirty metres, then the PNSO Alamosaurus figure would be in an approximate scale of 1:72.

A spokesperson from Everything Dinosaur commented that the PNSO Alamosaurus was due to be in stock at Everything Dinosaur in the middle of December (2023).

The spokesperson added:

“This is a fine titanosaur replica. We note that the design team at PNSO have added dermal armour. We think this is a hypothetical reconstruction. Although dermal armour is known in other titanosaurs, we are not sure whether fossilised scutes or osteoderms have been directly assigned to this genus.”

An official image of the new for 2024 rhamphorhynchid has been released by CollectA. However, Everything Dinosaur has been sent additional photographs and they have also received a model from the prototype development phase of production.

A spokesperson for the UK-based mail order company stated:

“Everything Dinosaur has announced the first of the new for 2024 CollectA prehistoric animal figures, the remarkable CollectA Deluxe 1:3 scale Dearc. You have seen an official image, possibly one or two images if you follow the Everything Dinosaur blog, but let’s go one step further and show you one of the pre-production figures.”

The Dearc sgiathanach Model

The CollectA Dearc sgiathanach model is scheduled to be available from Everything Dinosaur, early in 2024. It is one of the first of the new for 2024 prehistoric animal models to go into production. A spokesperson confirmed that it could be in stock as early as March (2024). The exact delivery date has yet to be determined. However, team members promise to keep collectors informed on social media.

New CollectA Models for 2024 – Part 1

Everything Dinosaur can confirm that the first of the new CollectA prehistoric animals for 2024 to be announced is the CollectA Deluxe Dearc sgiathanach. This pterosaur model will be approximately 1:3 scale and it will have an articulated lower jaw.

CollectA Deluxe Dearc sgiathanach

Dearc sgiathanach (pronounced jark ski-an-ach), is one of the largest pterosaurs described to date from Jurassic strata. The wingspan of this flying reptile may have been in excess of 2.5 metres. It was scientifically described in 2022 (Jagielska et al), and it has been assigned to the Rhamphorhynchidae family.

Model Measurements

The figure measures thirty-nine centimetres in length and it stands 15.5 cm tall. It is part of the CollectA Deluxe range of pterosaurs. This series has won praise for its depiction of a wide variety of flying reptiles, not just well-known pterosaurs such as Pteranodon, but also lesser-known genera such as Caiuajara and Caviramus.

The new for 2024 CollectA Deluxe Dearc sgiathanach is due to be in stock at Everything Dinosaur in early 2024, probably around March (2024).

Isle of Skye Flag Inspires Colouration

The dentition and location of the fossil find indicate that this pterosaur was probably a piscivore. It may have had a similar position in the Middle Jurassic ecosystem as today’s extant northern Gannet (Morus bassanus). This seabird is extremely common on the Isle of Skye. The markings and colouration of this new CollectA model were also inspired by the flag of the Isle of Skye. The white circle around the eye of the model reflects a white circle that features on the island’s flag.

Dearc had acute vision, the bright colours chosen for the tail and for the top of the head suggests that visual cues helped this animal communicate with others of its kind.

The Superb and Detailed PNSO Cayden the Zuul

The recently announced PNSO Cayden the Zuul armoured dinosaur model is to be stocked by Everything Dinosaur. It is expected to arrive in quarter 4 (2023). This spectacular figure (Zuul crurivastator), is the latest addition to the PNSO mid-size model range.

Zuul was formally named and described in 2017 (Arbour and Evans).

The fossil material is associated with the Judith River Formation of Montana. The fossils including a superb skull was found in strata forming the Coal Ridge Member of the Judith River Formation. Zuul lived in the Late Cretaceous (Campanian faunal stage).

PNSO Zuul Model Measurements

The Zuul figure is 17. 5 cm in length. It has a height of 3.8 cm. It is another in a long line of armoured dinosaur models made by PNSO, such as Stegosaurus, Ankylosaurus and Borealopelta.

It provides an overview of the figure and explains how this aquatic predator was able to survive in a polar landscape.

Key characteristics of the CollectA 1:20 scale model are commented upon. For example, the unique skin colouration is highlighted along with the diagnostic patterns on the skull. In addition, the amazing jaw is discussed, complete with its fang-like projections.
