CollectA Prehistoric Animal Models

So, CollectA will introduce a total of seven prehistoric animal models next year (2025).  They are an eclectic bunch.  There are four dinosaurs, an invertebrate (Jaekelopterus rhenaniae) and a prehistoric mammal.  In addition, we have a “Terror Bird” the ferocious Phorusrhacos.

New for 2025 the CollectA Jaekelopterus model in 1:20 scale.

New for 2025 a scale model of Jaekelopterus rhenaniae.

The Palaeozoic is represented by a 1:20 scale model of the giant “sea scorpion” Jaekelopterus rhenaniae.  It is supplied with a model of a jawless fish.

Moving much closer to the present day, CollectA will introduce a replica of a Pleistocene prehistoric mammal.  The model of the giant short-faced bear is likely to be in stock at Everything Dinosaur in the early spring.

The Triassic is represented by the giant non-sauropod sauropodomorph Ingentia prima.  The fossils of Ingentia come from the Quebrada del Barro Formation of north-western Argentina. It lived around 210 million years ago (Late Triassic).  The CollectA model will be a 1:40 scale figure.

Two Feathered Dinosaur Models

The two new CollectA theropods are both feathered.  The 1:20 scale figure of the ornithomimid Gallimimus sports a shaggy coat of feathers and is extremely bird-like.

In contrast to the graceful Gallimimus, the second theropod – Maip macrothorax represents one of the apex predators from the Late Cretaceous of South America. Maip macrothorax was formally described in 2022 (Rolando et al). Its fossils come from the Chorrillo Formation of Santa Cruz, Argentina.  This giant, robust predator may have measured in excess of ten metres in length.  The CollectA figure is in 1:40 scale.

Last but not least, is the new CollectA Deluxe 1:20 scale replica of the South American Miocene terror bird Phorusrhacos.  It too is technically a theropod dinosaur.  However, genetic research into the Aves, suggests that the Phorusrhacidae family are related to extant falcons.

Announcing Safari Ltd Model Retirements (2025)

Mike from Everything Dinosaur confirmed that the company had been informed about these retirements.  He explained that sometimes figures get retired to make way for new models and to ease production congestion at the factory.  Everything Dinosaur still stocks an extensive range of Safari Ltd models.  For example, the company recently received the new Therizinosaurus figure.  Moreover, the new Saltasaurus arrived recently too.

Decorating a Delightful Diprotodon Model

By |2024-12-24T18:57:20+00:00December 23rd, 2024|Categories: CollectA Deluxe Prehistoric Animal Models|0 Comments

Team members have put up some festive decorations.  Some of our prehistoric animal models have joined in as well.  A CollectA Deluxe Diprotodon model has been decorated with tinsel.  A golden touch as we prepare for the holidays.  After all, not everyone gets to decorate a giant marsupial!

Decorating a Diprotodon Model

The CollectA Deluxe Diprotodon figure is in 1:20 scale.  It was introduced earlier this year (2024).  We created a brief video review of this marvellous, male marsupial figure.

To read the reviews and to watch the CollectA Deluxe Diprotodon figure video: The CollectA 1:20 Scale Diprotodon Figure is Reviewed.

It has proved to be a popular figure amongst collectors and fans of prehistoric animal models.

Diprotodon fossils are widespread in Australia. Scientists know that this giant mammal (the biggest marsupial known to science), was present across almost the whole of Australia by the end of the Pleistocene Epoch.

CollectA Marsupial Models (Extinct Animals)

CollectA have created an extensive range of scale prehistoric animal models.  This range contains many scale models of prehistoric mammals. However, the Diprotodon figure is the first prehistoric marsupial model to be featured.  Although, the company has produced a replica of a Thylacine, this figure does not have a declared scale.

A Unique Jaekelopterus rhenaniae Illustration

By |2024-12-26T17:03:16+00:00December 21st, 2024|Categories: CollectA Deluxe Prehistoric Animal Models|0 Comments

A Jaekelopterus rhenaniae illustration has been commissioned by team members at Everything Dinosaur. This drawing will be used in a sea scorpion fact sheet.  The fact sheet will be sent out with sales of the new CollectA Deluxe Jaekelopterus figure.  This eurypterid model is due into stock in the spring of 2025 or thereabouts.

Jaekelopterus rhenaniae

J. rhenaniae is the largest known eurypterid described to date. It is also possibly the largest arthropod to have ever lived. The size of this enormous invertebrate has been calculated based on a fossilised partial chelicera (pincer) from the Early Devonian Emsian Klerf Formation (western Germany).

The fossilised pincer measures over thirty-six centimetres in length. If complete, palaeontologists have estimated that this appendage would have been over forty-five centimetres long. Based on a body length to chelicera ratio found in other pterygotid sea scorpions, scientists have estimated that Jaekelopterus rhenaniae was over two and a half metres long.

To read Everything Dinosaur’s blog post from 2007 describing the discovery of this giant eurypterid: Claws! A Giant Sea Scorpion Fossil.

It was probably an apex predator. It probably fed on other invertebrates as well as primitive fish.  The CollectA Deluxe 1:20 scale Jaekelopterus model is supplied with a small figure of a jawless fish that the giant sea scorpion has captured.

The new for 2025 CollectA Deluxe Jaekelopterus figure.

The new for 2025 CollectA Deluxe Jaekelopterus figure complete with a pteraspidid fish victim.

The fish prey represents a generic jawless agnathan. It is probably based on a group of prehistoric fish called a pteraspidid.

To view the range of CollectA Deluxe figures in stock at Everything Dinosaur: CollectA Deluxe Prehistoric Animal Models.

To read Everything Dinosaur’s review of this new CollectA figure and to view a short video about this model: Exclusive CollectA Deluxe Jaekelopterus Images and Video Review.

The CollectA Deluxe Jaekelopterus figure is estimated to be around sixteen centimetres in length. At this size it would fit with an approximate scale of 1:20.

Commenting Upon the Jaekelopterus rhenaniae Illustration

Mike from Everything Dinosaur commented:

“We chose to commission a lateral view of the Jaekelopterus figure.  This gives us the opportunity to add a human figure next to the model.  The addition of this human figure will instantly provide a scale and give viewers an immediate impression as to the size of this giant invertebrate.”

New for 2025 Haolonggood Majungasaurus Models

By |2024-12-27T14:35:33+00:00December 15th, 2024|Categories: Haolonggood Prehistoric Animal Models|0 Comments

Haolonggood have announced that they will introduce a pair of abelisaurid dinosaur models (Majungasaurus).  The Haolonggood Majungasaurus models are essentially the same sculpt.  However, they will have contrasting colour schemes.  Both figures have a declared scale of 1:35. The Majungasaurus figure known as Ou Peng is mainly tan coloured but with a blue tail flourish.  In contrast, Deng Fei is darker coloured and predominantly a greyish blue colour.

Two Majungasaurus models from Haolonggood.

Two, new for 2025 Majungasaurus models from Haolonggood. The model known as Ou Peng is left, whilst the model known as Deng Fei is on the right.

Each model measures twenty-two centimetres in length. They are just under five and half centimetres tall.

Haolonggood Majungasaurus Models

Majungasaurus lived at the end of the Cretaceous (Maastrichtian faunal stage). Its fossils are known from north-western Madagascar. Much of the skeleton has been described, including the skull. However, the end of the tail, pelvis and most of the forelimb is unknown. The forelimbs were reduced, almost vestigial. It very probably had four small digits on each hand (as seen in related abelisaurids).

Body size estimates vary. However, isolated fossil bones indicate that this dinosaur might have reached a length of around nine metres. It was the apex predator in the ecosystem.

A spokesperson from Everything Dinosaur welcomed the introduction of the two Haolonggood Majungasaurus models and stated:

“It is great to see Haolonggood creating figures of some of the more unusual and intriguing Late Cretaceous theropods such as Majungasaurus.

A Unique Furcatoceratops Dinosaur Drawing

By |2024-12-25T12:48:07+00:00December 14th, 2024|Categories: CollectA Age of Dinosaurs Popular and CollectA Prehistoric Life Models|0 Comments

Everything Dinosaur has commissioned a Furcatoceratops dinosaur drawing for use in the company’s Furcatoceratops fact sheet.  The fact sheet is being created in preparation for the arrival of the new for 2025 CollectA Age of Dinosaurs Popular Furcatoceratops dinosaur model.  This is the only ceratopsian model being introduced by CollectA next year (2025).  This centrosaurine (Furcatoceratops elucidans) was formally described in 2023 (Ishikawa et al). Its fossils are associated with the famous Judith River Formation of Montana. The genus name translates as “forked horned face”.

Four new for 2024 Haolonggood horned dinosaur models are now in stock at Everything Dinosaur. The Triceratops and Xenoceratops figures have arrived.  Team members have been busy contacting all those customers who wanted to be alerted when these dinosaur figures arrived.  Both the Xenoceratops and Triceratops figures are in 1:35 scale.  However, they represent different subfamilies of the Ceratopsia.  For instance, Xenoceratops is a centrosaurine, whilst Triceratops is a member of the Chasmosaurinae subfamily.

Haolonggood Horned Dinosaur Models

Although these horned dinosaur models have the same declared scale, the Triceratops models are larger.  The Triceratops taxon represents one of the largest horned dinosaurs known to science.  Moreover, Triceratops lived several million years after Xenoceratops became extinct.  The smaller Xenoceratops is geologically older than the Triceratops taxon.  Xenoceratops (X. foremostensis) is known from the middle Campanian.  It roamed Alberta (Canada) approximately seventy-eight million years ago.  In contrast, Triceratops is known from the very last few million years of the Cretaceous (Maastrichtian faunal stage).

Mike from Everything Dinosaur commented that Haolonggood had introduced several beautiful horned dinosaur models in recent months.  New figures include Chasmosaurus, Diabloceratops, Kosmoceratops, Sinoceratops and Pentaceratops. In addition, Haolonggood have also added Nasutoceratops and Pachyrhinosaurus figures.

He added:

“Such a lot of horned dinosaur figures from Haolonggood. Our congratulations to the design team.”
