The Rebor Utahraptor Replica Features in the Everything Dinosaur Newsletter

A lot of Rebor replicas have come back into stock at Everything Dinosaur, so it was fitting that a number of these fabulous scale models were featured in the latest Everything Dinosaur newsletter that came out earlier this week.  The headline highlighted the 1:35 scale Rebor Wind Hunter replica (Utahraptor ostrommaysorum), a reserve list had been opened for this eagerly awaited model and collectors were soon emailed with the good news that this model was now in Everything Dinosaur’s warehouse once again, along with the Cerberus Clan set and the 1:6 scale Compsognathus replica (Sentry).

Rebor 1:35 Scale Utahraptor Replica

The Rebor 1:35 scale Utahraptor replica was the first “raptor” model that Rebor ever produced and it remains one of the most popular figures in this range.  Since “Wind Hunter” was launched, a number of dromaeosaurid models have been added, the focus has been on Velociraptor (V. mongoliensis), but this model of Utahraptor, a dinosaur that lived long before Velociraptor evolved, has been out of production for some time and it is great to see it back.

The Eofauna Steppe Mammoth is in Stock at Everything Dinosaur

The eagerly awaited Eofauna Scientific Research Steppe Mammoth replica is in stock at Everything Dinosaur.  Team members have spent most of the day contacting all those customers and model fans who asked us to reserve one for them.  We have been so busy sorting out all the requests that we have had little time to admire this excellent representation of Mammuthus trogontherii ourselves.

Checking Models Over Prior to Despatch

Stocks of this 1:40 scale model arrived around noon (BST) and prior to sending out orders, our dedicated team members inspected the models just to ensure that everyone had an appropriate data card and that the replicas were in tip-top condition.  The first orders were packed and sent on their way within two hours.  As well as the data card, Everything Dinosaur is sending out a fact sheet on the Steppe Mammoth with every model purchased.

This exciting Elephantidae replica, yes, Mammoths are members of the elephant family, (though they are more closely related to extant Asian elephants than they are to living African elephants), is the first in a new model series from Eofauna Scientific Research.  Collectors can expect more prehistoric mammal models as well as some amazing dinosaur models in the future.

Steppe Mammoth (Mammuthus trogontherii)

Mammuthus trogontherii was one of the largest members of the elephant family to have existed.  A fully grown adult male could weigh as much as fourteen tonnes and measure 4.5 metres high at the shoulder.  These elephants were probably cold adapted and gave rise to the much smaller, but better known Woolly Mammoth (Mammuthus primigenius).  The very last of the Steppe Mammoths are believed to have died out around 30,000 years ago.

The Eofauna Steppe Mammoth

The Eofauna Steppe Mammoth model is based on a Steppe Mammoth specimen studied by Eofauna company members in northern China.  The bones of this specimen were then scaled up to equate to the remains of the largest individual known (a specimen from Mosbach, Baden-Württemberg in south-west Germany).  The head is modelled on the only complete skull known of this species, which was discovered in Novosibirsk, Russia.

A prototype model was created initially and from this the production model came about.  Collectors and model fans can be assured that the Eofauna Scientific Research Steppe Mammoth is a highly accurate replica, one that was subjected to rigorous testing by researchers who really know their elephants.

Living Members of the Elephant Family and Chums

The second part of the Everything Dinosaur newsletter focuses on the superb PNSO Family Zoo range of models.  Firstly, there is the fantastic collection of ten animals from Asia.  These ten figures represent animals that are culturally very important to our species.  The hand-painted models include pandas, tigers, horses, brown bears, goats, wolves and dogs.   This collection is known as the “PNSO Family Zoo Ten Most Popular Asian Animals” and they are extremely hard to obtain.  Thankfully, Everything Dinosaur has brought a number of sets over from China, our stock even includes the rare pig model and the Siamese crocodile.

Tyrannosaur Inspired Diorama a Sensational Dinosaur Landscape

By |2024-05-08T20:40:10+01:00September 25th, 2017|Categories: Dinosaur Fans, Everything Dinosaur News and Updates, Everything Dinosaur Products, Main Page, Photos of Everything Dinosaur Products|0 Comments

Late Cretaceous Tyrannosaurs Feature in Dinosaur Diorama

Our thanks to Robert Townsend who set us some more photographs of the prehistoric animal inhabitants of his large dinosaur inspired diorama.  This time, the theme is Late Cretaceous Tyrannosaurus and the enthusiastic model maker has created a number of mini scenes featuring “Tyrant Lizard Kings” and their contemporaries.

A Pair of Tyrannosaurs Feeding on the Carcass of a Titanosaur

The picture above shows a Wild Safari Prehistoric World T. rex (foreground) with a now retired, Carnegie Collectables special anniversary T. rex replica (background).  Titanosaurs did co-exist with tyrannosaurs, especially in the more southern parts of Laramidia.  The titanosaur Alamosaurus sanjuanensis is known from Upper Cretaceous (Maastrichtian faunal stage) deposits, there is some evidence to suggest that T. rex scavenged carcasses of this huge sauropod, whether or not they actively hunted these giants remains open to debate.  If you look carefully a series of three-toed dinosaur prints can be seen in the photograph, a nice touch from the model maker, adding realism.

Late Cretaceous Tyrannosaurs

One of the benefits of building such a large diorama is that various mini-scenes can be incorporated into the bigger scenario.  The photograph above shows an adult T. rex feeding a juvenile, one of the Schleich mini dinosaur figures.  In the picture below, an armoured dinosaur Euoplocephalus (from the Battat Terra range of figures) battles a T. rex.

Detailed Prehistoric Animal Replicas and Models

As the number of detailed prehistoric animal models and replicas have increased, collectors have been keen to find new ways of displaying their collections.  Mr Townsend has constructed a substantial three-metre-long landscape that lends itself to a wide variety of scene building concepts representing different parts of the geological record.

For example, the Late Cretaceous of North America was the inspiration behind these images and horned dinosaurs made up a substantial portion of the megafauna in this part of the world at the end of the Mesozoic.  Robert does not disappoint dinosaur fans as he has included several ceratopsians in his diorama.

Horned Dinosaurs (Einiosaurus and Achelousaurus) Confront Marauding Tyrannosaurs

It is the attention to detail that elevates this dinosaur diorama, such as the skilfully painted backdrop complete with pterosaur stickers.  The attention to detail is demonstrated in this aerial shot of the landscape, a tyrannosaur is making its way across the model and its tracks can be clearly made out in the substrate.

The image (above) also demonstrates the clever use of other props that add authenticity, such as the strategic placement of boulders and the use of various model plants to help represent the flora of the Mesozoic.

Plant Model Takes Centre Stage

In this cleverly composed photograph, it is the model of the prehistoric plants that take centre stage (CollectA Monathesia and Cycads), this model is seen in sharp focus, whilst a Tyrannosaurus rex model is in the background, other prehistoric plants frame the photograph and provide perspective.

A spokesperson from Everything Dinosaur commented:

” A large landscape such as this lends itself to all sorts of possibilities when it comes to depicting life in the past.  Much thought and care has gone into its construction and it is always a pleasure to see how Everything Dinosaur’s customers display their purchases.”

Everything Dinosaur Websites Upgraded to HTTPS an Important Development

By |2024-05-09T14:36:57+01:00September 24th, 2017|Categories: Adobe CS5, Everything Dinosaur News and Updates, Main Page, Press Releases|0 Comments

Everything Dinosaur Websites – All Upgraded to HTTPS

As part of our on-going commitment to customer service, every one of Everything Dinosaur’s websites have completed the upgrade to HTTPS status.  This acronym stands for “Hyper Text Transfer Protocol Secure”, which means that the data sent between your browser and our website as you read this blog post is encrypted.  By upgrading from HTTP to HTTPS, were helping to protect your data from any third party that might want to have this information.  Although our blog site does not collect personal data, we welcome customer comments and feedback and, as a result, our visitors can be assured that Everything Dinosaur is taking their personal on-line security very seriously.

All Everything Dinosaur’s Websites Have HTTPS Security

Helping to keep visitors safe and secure (HTTPS).

Transport Layer Security Protocols at Everything Dinosaur

Our TLS (Transport Layer Security protocols), are used to encrypt the transmitted information to secure identities and other personal information in cyberspace.   As a general guideline, all websites should have a TLS or, as it is sometimes known, a Secure Sockets Layer (SSL) certificate to ensure data integrity, effective encryption and to support website authentication.  Even though this blog site (our dinosaurs for schools site as well), does not collect financial information or personal data of that nature, with the big search engines placing greater emphasis on security, we thought it would be best to convert all our sites to HTTPS, not just or main website: Everything Dinosaur.

Building Trust Helping to Avoid Nasty Surprises

When someone visits this blog site, our on-line shop, or any other part of our website, such as: Dinosaur Soft Toys they can be assured that they are visiting a secure site.  A spokesperson from Everything Dinosaur commented:

“With the HTTPS configuration users can be assured that the website is secured and they can be confident exploring our huge web log, after all, just like the dinosaurs 66 million years ago, nobody likes nasty surprises!”

The Benefits of HTTPS on Websites

Having upgraded to HTTPS is not going to protect the planet from extra-terrestrial impacts, however there are a number of benefits such as:

  • Authentication – HTTPS ensures that users communicate with the intended website, it prevents data hijacking and “middle-man” attacks.  When you communicate with us via our websites, be it by leaving comments, placing orders, or by other means, you can be assured that you are communicating with us.
  • Encryption – Safe from unwanted eavesdroppers, when sending data via HTTPS, no-one can “listen in”, data cannot be tracked across multiple pages and information cannot be stolen.
  • Integrity of data – Information cannot be changed, modified or corrupted during the transfer.

New Papo and Prehistoric Animal Model Retirements

Papo New Releases and Retirements (Les Dinosaures)

Just arrived at Everything Dinosaur, a limited edition Papo gift box dinosaur model set.  This Papo special edition gift box features two dinosaurs, a Papo juvenile Spinosaurus and a Papo Ceratosaurus.  The Papo Juvenile Spinosaurus is a new figure, Everything Dinosaur team members saw this model around twelve months ago, it is not known whether this super Spinosaurus will be available as an individual model in 2018.

Papo Juvenile Spinosaurus (Papo Dinosaur Models)

The Papo juvenile Spinosaurus measures eighteen centimetres in length and like the similarly sized Ceratosaurus, it has an articulated lower jaw.  The skull and body proportions have been skilfully modelled by the Papo design team and this figure does look like a young animal.  The sail on the back is not quite as pronounced as it is in the Papo adult Spinosaurus replica and the paint scheme on the juvenile Spinosaurus is exquisite.  This pair of models are offered for sale in a special presentation gift box, or as the French would say “offre speciale”.

Papo Prehistoric Animal Model Retirements

There are going to be several models retired from the Papo “Les Dinosaures” range in 2018.  The Papo Pachyrhinosaurus figure, the Papo Baby Woolly Mammoth model and the baby brown T. rex are out of production and no more of these figures will be made, according to sources close to Everything Dinosaur.

Proposed Papo Model Retirements in 2018

Papo models due to retire in 2018.

A trio of Papo figures.  The Papo Pachyrhinosaurus, Baby Woolly Mammoth and the Baby Brown T. rex are due to be retired in 2018.

The Papo baby Woolly Mammoth and the baby brown Tyrannosaurus rex figures were introduced into the model range in 2012.  Originally, there were two baby T. rex figures, however, the green variant was retired some years ago.  As for the Papo juvenile Woolly Mammoth, as far as Everything Dinosaur team members are aware, this model will continue to be made next year.  It is the Papo baby Woolly Mammoth that is becoming extinct.

It is also sad to see the retirement of the Papo Pachyrhinosaurus figure.  This horned dinosaur model has proved to be very popular amongst Papo collectors.  The Papo Pachyrhinosaurus was introduced in 2010, within the Papo range there are still two ceratopsians, naturally there is a Triceratops (adult and young), plus a brightly coloured Styracosaurus.

The Papo Pachyrhinosaurus is Being Retired

Announcing Papo Model Retirements

All three of the retired models are still available from Everything Dinosaur, whilst stocks last.  The Papo prehistoric animal range can be viewed here: Papo Prehistoric Animals.

A spokesperson from Everything Dinosaur commented:

“We are delighted to see this special edition box set and the juvenile Spinosaurus is a very welcome addition to the Papo model portfolio.  We don’t know whether this model will be available as an individual piece but we have lobbied the senior management of Papo about this, however, no decision as to its future has been made.  Providing information on model retirements allows collectors and dinosaur fans to snap up any models before they become rare and start to sell on auction sites for silly prices.  There are some exciting new models from Papo coming next year and when we have permission to talk about them and show pictures we will post them up.”

PNSO Family Zoo Models Added to Everything Dinosaur’s Range

Everything Dinosaur has added the PNSO Family Zoo range of animal models to its product portfolio.  The Family Zoo range currently consists of twenty animal models, representing extant creatures as diverse as tigers, pandas, hippos, horses and dogs. Each model is hand-painted and presented in its own blister packaging.  PNSO has built up a deserved reputation for the excellence of its prehistoric animal models, the “PNSO Age of Dinosaurs Toys”, now collectors have the chance to add the entire Family Zoo range to their collections.

Family Zoo Ten Most Popular Asian Animals

The ten animals in the Family Zoo Asian models range are: Brown Bear, Horse, Tiger, Goat, Wolf, Dog, Pig, Siamese Crocodile, Cow and a Panda.  This might seem like an eclectic mix of animals, however, the Family Zoo Asian models represent creatures that have had an intimate relationship with our own species.  Many animals have become domesticated whilst others have been revered in different Asian cultures, the choice of animal in this range reflects the impact that these animals have had and celebrates their importance and their significance to our own species.

The Family Zoo Ten Most Popular Asian Animals commemorates these creatures and their fascinating stories which are interwoven with our own history.

The animals that make up the PNSO Family Zoo ten most popular African animals in contrast, represent creatures that although very important to various human cultures, have never been successfully domesticated.  This model range (all mammals), consists of Wildebeest, African Buffalo, African Lion, Spotted Hyena, Cheetah, African Elephant, Giraffe, Zebra, Hippopotamus and a Black Rhinoceros.

PNSO Models and Figures

Each skilfully, hand-painted animal figure represents an iconic wild animal from Africa.  In the PNSO product literature, this range is described as:

“There are many free spirits roaming the vast Savannah of Africa.  We have produced the Family Zoo range to express our love for nature.”

All the replicas in the “Asian” and “African” ranges show wonderful anatomical details and the colouration of the models is fantastic.  It is hard to choose a favourite, but the Black Rhinoceros (Diceros bicornis), is amongst our favourites, it is great to see a model of this critically endangered large mammal.

The PNSO Family Zoo Black Rhinoceros measures a fraction under eleven centimetres in length and this splendid figure is a marvellous companion to the large PNSO White Rhinoceros replica, one of three large-scale figures of iconic African mammals produced by PNSO.

A spokesperson from Everything Dinosaur commented:

“These figures are rare and difficult to obtain, so we are delighted to be able to offer the PNSO Family Zoo to collectors and animal model fans.”

Everything Dinosaur Has 14,000 Pins on Pinterest

With the setting up of a special Pinterest board dedicated to the excellent Age of Dinosaurs range from PNSO, Everything Dinosaur has smashed through the 14,000 pins benchmark on this social media platform.  Everything Dinosaur’s presence on Pinterest is dedicated to pictures of prehistoric animals and fossils as well as images of all the amazing dinosaur themed products in the company’s extensive portfolio.  With the introduction of the PNSO Age of Dinosaurs range in August (August 2017), a new Pinterest board was created to accommodate images of this model series and this, along with the addition of several new blog articles, pushed the total number of pins on the site beyond 14,000.

A Total of 37 Images on the PNSO Pinterest Board Posted Up by Everything Dinosaur

Sixty Pinterest Boards

The Pinterest pins are spread out over a total of sixty Pinterest Boards, covering subjects as diverse as human evolution, crocodiles/crocodilians and pterosaurs.  The board entitled “Fossils”, which incorporates more than fifteen hundred pictures of various fossils from museum collections and excavation sites, rivals the fossil collection of a small regional museum in its diversity.

The board entitled “Dinosaurs for Schools” in conjunction with the board that highlights the articles posted up on our special blog has a total of 874 pins posted.  These provide a valuable educational resource for teachers and teaching assistants.  There is even a board that provides images of fearsome “Terror Birds”, otherwise known as members of the Phorusrhacidae family, a group of large, flightless, carnivorous birds that were the apex predators in South America until the migration of members of the Carnivora into South America just a few million years ago.

“There are many stunning visuals associated with palaeontology.  Not only are there the amazing fossils to photograph and document, but many scientific papers these days are accompanied by life reconstructions of the animals the fossils represent.  It is great to be able to utilise a platform such as Pinterest where we can post up these images, not only illustrations from professional palaeoartists but also from schoolchildren as well.”

Frankfurt Book Fair Countdown Begins

Next month sees the annual Frankfurter Buchmesse, the biggest trade fair anywhere in the world for the international publishing industry and this year’s event is likely to be bigger and better than ever.  Over 7,150 exhibitors have registered, from 106 countries and this trade fair attracted over 278,000 visitors in 2016.  It was an extremely busy few days, we know, because Everything Dinosaur team members were there.  With so many new Earth science titles being published and with our interest in helping teachers and teaching assistants in the UK, attending this trade fair forms an essential part of our support for our schools’ programme.

Frankfurt – A Long Association with Books and Book Fairs

The city of Frankfurt in central Germany has had a long association with books and the publishing world.  After all, this ancient city on the River Main, was the birthplace of the famous German writer Johann Wolfgang von Goethe.  Book fairs in this part of Germany have a tradition spanning more than five centuries, the first book fair in the region being held not long after the development of printing using block letters.

The Frankfurter Buchmesse has become a focal point for the marketing of new works and titles.  Over the years, with the development of other media, this internationally renowned event has extended to showcase developments in culture, the arts and broadcast media as well as the publishing world.  Last year, Everything Dinosaur team members were amongst some 2,000 specially selected and accredited bloggers invited to attend.  We have already started packing and relocated our German phrase book so that we can make the most of our visit.

The book fair starts on Wednesday 11th October and runs through to Sunday 15th, but please note, the first few days are dedicated to trade visitors only.

Dinosaurs to See

Everything Dinosaur team members will be looking out for new educational publications on the Dinosauria, in addition, they will be keeping an eye out for new teaching publications that can assist with the numerous lesson plans and schemes of work we prepare for teaching teams, whether it is the national curriculum, cornerstones or another type of curriculum the school is following.

We might just get chance to visit one of our favourite landmarks in the city – the life-size model of a Tyrannosaurus rex that stands opposite the entrance to the Naturmuseum Senckenberg in Frankfurt (the natural history museum).

The life-size model of the T. rex depicts this dinosaur on the move, perhaps it is in a hurry to get its pre-show ticket organised…
