Our thanks to talented artist Caldey who sent into Everything Dinosaur a fabulous Terminator Triceratops drawing.  The illustration combines two of her favourite subjects, science-fiction and the Dinosauria.  The drawing demonstrates her remarkable illustration skills. Sometimes a dinosaur drawing captures the imagination in an unexpected way. The Terminator Triceratops certainly achieves this. The illustration combines palaeontology with a wonderfully inventive piece of science-fiction inspiration. At first glance, the animal resembles a monster from the “Terminator” movie franchise. However, a closer look reveals that this mechanical figure is based on a well-known dinosaur.

A Terminator Triceratops Drawing

Elements from the film franchise have been cleverly incorporated into the ceratopsian. Consequently, the prehistoric animal takes on the appearance of a formidable cyborg. The concept immediately evokes the famous Terminator films.

Importantly, the artist has still retained the instantly recognisable characteristics of Triceratops. The large neck frill dominates the head. Furthermore, the three facial horns provide the perfect foundation for this imaginative transformation.

The idea works particularly well because Triceratops already looks imposing. Adding futuristic technology simply takes that formidable appearance to another level. Indeed, Caldey has created other science-fiction-meets-a-dinosaur pieces of art.  For example, earlier this year Everything Dinosaur received a “Terminator Tyrannosaurus rex” drawing.

We particularly admire the imagination behind these artworks. They demonstrate how dinosaurs continue to inspire creativity long after their extinction. Perhaps most importantly, drawings like the Terminator Triceratops show how palaeontology can encourage artistic expression. Science and imagination can work brilliantly together.

Our congratulations to Caldey, they are fabulous drawings.
