New PNSO Keynes the Lythronax is Reviewed

By |2024-03-09T15:06:31+00:00August 20th, 2023|Adobe CS5, Dinosaur Fans, Everything Dinosaur Products, Main Page, Product Reviews|0 Comments

Our thanks to model collector and dinosaur fan William who sent into Everything Dinosaur his review of the PNSO Keynes the Lythronax figure. William is very keen on the PNSO Age of Dinosaurs model range, and he enjoys reviewing their figures.

He commented:

“Keynes is a superbly accurate Lythronax argestes figure. Stunning from the top of the head to the tip of his tail. I am really looking forward to getting the PNSO Albertosaurus and Gorgosaurus in the next few weeks.”

The reviewer described the head of the Lythronax as “robust”. A comment was made about this powerful head smashing into the skulls of coeval Diabloceratops. The design team at PNSO were praised for the model’s accuracy. The prominent pair of lacrimal crests were highlighted, and it was pointed out that this figure of the “King of Gore” had an articulated lower jaw.

It was noted that the majority of PNSO’s theropod figures had striped bodies. The reviewer suggested that the colour and pattern choice had taken inspiration from the Felidae.

William commented that he had twenty-five PNSO theropod dinosaur figures in his collection.

Praising Team Members at Everything Dinosaur

In concluding his review, William praised the team members at Everything Dinosaur. He commented that during these uncertain times and right through the pandemic Everything Dinosaur was always there and supportive. He thanked the company for updating their social media platforms and doing their best to keep model collectors informed.

William went onto add:

“Parcel and product packaging is secure and strong. This company could teach the big guys of the web and high street a thing or two when it comes to the level of packaging and dedication to delivery.”

Our thanks to William for his kind words and for the PNSO Keynes the Lythronax model review.

Beautiful Papo Iguanodon Model on Display

By |2024-03-09T15:06:50+00:00August 19th, 2023|Adobe CS5, Dinosaur Fans, Everything Dinosaur Products, Main Page, Photos of Everything Dinosaur Products|0 Comments

Everything Dinosaur team members spotted a familiar figure whilst on a visit to Liverpool. At the Liverpool World Museum, a Papo Iguanodon model was spotted. The dinosaur model was part of a display that highlighted the different dinosaurs the lived during the Cretaceous. This Papo model is not the first Papo dinosaur figure to be used in such a way.

The Papo Iguanodon Model

The Papo Iguanodon model was first introduced in 2018. The iguanodontids may have undergone extensive revision, but Iguanodon (I. bernissartensis) remains an iconic and extensively researched dinosaur genus*.

We suspect that many children visiting the Liverpool World Museum will recognise the model.

* there are two valid species currently assigned to Iguanodon. The type species Iguanodon bernissartensis and Iguanodon galvensis from Spain, which was formally described in 2015 (Verdú et al).

Papo Dinosaurs in Museums

Earlier this year, Everything Dinosaur spotted another Papo figure in a museum display. The popular Papo green, running T. rex model is on display at the Manchester Museum. It is in an exhibit highlighting Tyrannosaurus rex.

A spokesperson from Everything Dinosaur commented:

“Whilst Papo figures may not be the most scientifically accurate models, they have an endearing quality. Children will recognise the dinosaur featured in the museum display based on the dinosaur model incorporated within the exhibit. It was fun to examine the various figures at the museums and to spot some personal favourites.”

Trilobite Fossils

Trilobite fossils are ubiquitous. Tens of thousands of specimens can be viewed in museums and museum collections. However, trilobite trace fossils are rare. The Liverpool World Museum exhibit depicts a trilobite walking across the sea floor. A distinctive set of parallel tracks are shown. Trace fossils preserve evidence of the activity of an organism. Most trace fossils provide direct “in situ” evidence of the environment of the prehistoric creature that produced the trace.

Commenting Upon the Trilobite Track

A spokesperson from Everything Dinosaur commented:

“The track exhibit provides an opportunity for museum staff to recreate the environment in which some types of trilobite lived. Whilst some trilobites may have been active swimmers (nektonic), others were happy to wander along the sea floor, searching for food. The trace fossil exhibit also gives visitors the opportunity to view models of various trilobites.”

Trilobite Body Fossils

Fossils are used by scientists to identify the relative age of rock strata. Rocks can be correlated through the examination of the fossils that they contain. Trilobites are important zonal fossils. The trilobite fossils shown (above), are from the Silurian (Wenlock Group, Shropshire). They represent examples of the Calymene genus. Some of the specimens are rolled up into a ball, presumably a defensive behaviour.

The spokesperson from Everything Dinosaur added:

“A trilobite fossil might be one of the first fossils that a young person is given as a gift. It can ignite a passion for nature within them and lead to a lifetime of fossil collecting and learning about prehistoric animals.”

New PNSO Cole the Daspletosaurus Reviewed

By |2024-03-09T15:07:13+00:00August 17th, 2023|Adobe CS5, Dinosaur Fans, Everything Dinosaur Products, Main Page, Product Reviews|0 Comments

Our thanks to William who sent into Everything Dinosaur a review of the PNSO Cole the Daspletosaurus dinosaur model.

William commented:

“The moment I saw the PNSO preview I thought there’s a very handsome figure. Love the superb and robust Daspletosaurus head sculpt with a fully articulated jaw and very intelligent eyes deep in the lacrimal crests. A giant thank you to Everything Dinosaur.”

PNSO Cole the Daspletosaurus

William describes the body as “stunning” and praises the skin texture. He highlights the longer Daspletosaurus arms and legs and comments that this was a graceful, apex predatory dinosaur. The PNSO Daspletosaurus reflects the variety of Late Cretaceous tyrannosaurs within the Tyrannosauridae.

As the reviewer goes on to add:

“There is more than just the mighty Tyrannosaurus rex out there.”

The PNSO Cole the Daspletosaurus model is supplied with a variety of accessories.
The PNSO Cole the Daspletosaurus model is supplied with a poster, a full-colour booklet and a support stand.

Commenting on the Colour Scheme Chosen

William comments on the chosen colour scheme for this theropod dinosaur. He states that the dark to light body striping is very natural. He further adds that no big predator would be garish in colour.

Concluding his review, the PNSO model is summarised:

“Cole was a true must have to add to my stable and I had no worries from the moment I first saw him to the moment of purchase.”

William is looking forward to the arrival of two new PNSO tyrannosaur figures. The PNSO Albertosaurus and the Gorgosaurus figures are due to arrive at Everything Dinosaur next month (September 2023).

The summer edition of “Prehistoric Times” magazine has arrived at Everything Dinosaur. There is certainly a lot going on in issue 146. Tracy Lee Ford provides part two of his excellent feature on dinosaur skin. The focus is on theropods, and he provides a detailed explanation on how integumentary coverings are interpreted from fossilised skin impressions.

A theropod features on the front cover. A magnificent Acrocanthosaurus model painted by Sean Kotz. There is an article “Mud Monster” inside that explains how the figure was painted.

Thescelosaurus and the Tully Monster

The bird-hipped Thescelosaurus is discussed in an article written by Phil Hore and Gary Vecchiarelli. Several species have been described and this fast-running dinosaur was one of the last dinosaurs to roam the Earth. All fossil material having come from Upper Cretaceous (Maastrichtian faunal stage) strata.

The Thescelosaurus article contains lots of reader submitted artwork. Our favourites include the illustrations by Bill Unzen, Ethan Martinicky and Nick Papadimitriou. Phil Hore writes about the iconic Tully Monster – Tullimonstrum. Our congratulations to Wade Carmen, Samele Consolo and Mark Massion for their illustrations. A special mention to Diane Ramic for her striking Tullimonstrum and very colourful pink and blue Thescelosaurus.

The Tully Monster motif is continued as Andreas Forrer discusses his own personal experiences hunting for Tullimonstrum fossils and there is an article on a new book that examines the ancient fauna of Australasia.

“Prehistoric Times” Magazine

J. R. Lavas continues his long-running series documenting the art of Zdeněk Burian. In issue 146, the focus is on Burian’s illustrations of Cenozoic birds. The detailed and highly informative article features stunning artwork.

The PNSO Edward the Megalosaurus dinosaur model is coming into stock at Everything Dinosaur. This recently announced figure is on the same shipment as Tristan the Gorgosaurus and Wally the Albertosaurus.

PNSO Edward the Megalosaurus,
The superb PNSO Megalosaurus dinosaur model. A fantastic replica of the first dinosaur to be formally described.

PNSO Edward the Megalosaurus

Everything Dinosaur was aware that many palaeontologists had been requesting an updated and scientifically accurate Megalosaurus. Their requests have been listened to and Edward the Megalosaurus will soon be available. It joins Connor the Torvosaurus as representatives of the Megalosauridae within the PNSO range.

PNSO Edward the Megalosaurus,
The stunning new for early autumn 2023 PNSO Megalosaurus dinosaur model.

Megalosaurus Model Measurements

This exciting new theropod figure measures twenty-three centimetres in length and stands approximately 7 cm high. Whilst the adult size of Megalosaurus (M. bucklandii) is not known, palaeontologists have estimated that this Jurassic predator could have reached lengths of around nine metres. Based on this size, we suggest that this is an approximate 1:40 scale replica.

Megalosaurus bucklandii

This dinosaur was formally described in 1824. It was described before the Dinosauria clade was erected. Megalosaurus was the first dinosaur to be given a scientific name, which is still valid today. The PNSO figure will be supplied with a clear, transparent support stand and an A3-sized Sci-Art Megalosaurus poster. In addition, the box contents will include a full-colour booklet.

Our thanks to Caldey who sent into Everything Dinosaur and excellent, colourful and highly detailed Lambeosaurine illustration. The anterior portion of the hadrosaur is shown in lateral view. The artist has taken great care to add lots of detail to the animal’s flank and the hatchet-shaped crest has been given a pinkish hue with black highlights.

A Lambeosaurine Illustration

The imposing dinosaur has counter shading, and the artist has taken care to depict lots of differently sized scales on the side of the body. A vivid blue strip runs from the eye down to the nostril. The throat has been coloured red. The background colours are muted, drawing the viewer’s eye to the colourful herbivorous dinosaur.

A spokesperson from Everything Dinosaur thanked Caldey for sending in her lambeosaurine illustration and commented.

“It is a wonderful dinosaur drawing. Lambeosaurus is an enigmatic duck-billed dinosaur and Caldey has done a fantastic job recreating this Late Cretaceous herbivore.”

Soft Toy Trilobite and an Anomalocaris Model

Everything Dinosaur team members were contacted by a customer who enquired about the soft toy trilobite. The customer was a fan of prehistoric invertebrates. They wanted a plush trilobite but also enquired about Palaeozoic invertebrate models. We were able to point them in the direction of the invertebrate models with the CollectA Prehistoric Life model range. The CollectA Redlichia trilobite figure had already been purchased, however, the recently introduced CollectA Anomalocaris model appealed.

A Soft Toy Trilobite and the CollectA Anomalocaris

Trilobites may not be regarded as cute and cuddly, but the soft toy trilobite has proved popular. Part of our Palaeozoic plush range, the trilobite soft toy measures twenty-one centimetres long. It is fourteen centimetres wide across the headshield (cephalon). Team members are not sure which genus the soft toy represents, it could be a representation of the genus Calymene.

A spokesperson from Everything Dinosaur commented:

“The trilobite soft toy has proved to be surprisingly popular. The cute and colourful soft toy may not represent a dinosaur, but palaeontologists know just how important the Trilobita are within the fossil record. It is wonderful to be able to offer a soft toy trilobite as part of our plush range.”
