The New Diplodocus Dinosaur Model (Carnegie Collectibles)

By |2024-04-12T15:57:44+01:00May 1st, 2008|Categories: Everything Dinosaur Products, Press Releases|0 Comments

Carnegie Collectibles Diplodocus Dinosaur Model

A fantastic addition to any dinosaur model collection is this super-sized model of Diplodocus, a long-necked sauropod dinosaur of the Late Jurassic of North America.  This model measures over sixty centimetres in length and like all the other Carnegie Collectibles (scale models of prehistoric animals), it is very well painted.

This is certainly a most impressive model of a Diplodocus, to view Everything Dinosaur’s range of Safari Ltd dinosaur models and other model ranges: Dinosaur and Prehistoric Animal Models.

One word of advice, if you intend to display this dinosaur replica, make sure you have a big enough shelf.

Please note, the Carnegie Collectibles range of dinosaur and prehistoric animal models has now been retired (2014).

Our Favourite and Most Popular “Eagle Lizard” Replica

By |2024-01-02T06:53:09+00:00April 23rd, 2008|Categories: Everything Dinosaur Products, Press Releases|0 Comments

Desmatosuchus haploceras – Our Favourite “Eagle Lizard”

Like most of the aetosaurs (Eagle Lizards) described to date, Desmatosuchus had a robust, heavy body covered in armour.  The armour was made up of four-sided plates running along the back and encasing the tail.  The reptile weighed around five hundred kilogrammes and the largest individuals measured in excess of four metres.  Our favourite “Eagle Lizard” fed on primitive ferns, horsetails and seed ferns.  This Late Triassic member of the Aetosauridae lived in western and southern United States (New Mexico, Texas and Arizona).

Desmatosuchus haploceras

Safari Ltd have a model of an aetosaur (Desmatosuchus haploceras) as part of the company’s “Prehistoric Crocodile Toob”.  It is rare to find animals from the enigmatic Aetosauridae family as models and replicas.

A spokesperson for the UK-based Everything Dinosaur commented:

“We welcome the addition of more exotic and enigmatic prehistoric animal models.  Most model manufacturers make figures of Stegosaurus, Triceratops and Tyrannosaurus rex and it is great to see different prehistoric animals, even aetosaurs featured.”

New Notes on Postosuchus

By |2024-04-12T08:22:47+01:00March 8th, 2008|Categories: Dinosaur and Prehistoric Animal Drawings, Dinosaur Fans, Press Releases|0 Comments

Postosuchus kirkpatricki – Fierce Prehistoric Animal

Postosuchus (P. kirkpatricki) was a member of the Order Rauisuchia of reptiles.  This Late Triassic predator whose fossilised remains have been found in Arizona, New Mexico, North Carolina and the state of Texas was made famous in 1999 when it appeared in the first episode of the ground breaking BBC documentary series “Walking with Dinosaurs”.  The name Postosuchus means “after or post crocodile”, a reference to this extinct creature’s affinity with the crocodile family.  The genus name also gives a nod towards Post Quarry, a fossil location close to the small town of Post in Garza County (Texas).

Notes on Postosuchus

After this predator’s appearance on the television documentary series it has become one of the most popular non-Dinosaurian prehistoric animals known from the Triassic geological period amongst enthusiasts of all things Mesozoic.

Everything Dinosaur currently stocks the Postosuchus prehistoric animal model that is part of the Wild Safari Prehistoric World range of figures.  To view this range: Wild Safari Prehistoric World Figures.

Turn meal times into a Mesozoic adventure with the new range of children’s’ tableware from Everything Dinosaur.  With plates, utensils, bowls and a cup including a matching vinyl coated placemat, this new range of dinnerware will have young dinosaur fans eager to take their place at the dinner table.

Everything Dinosaur

Made from tough, durable melamine, these new items have just been added to the “Dinosaurs at Home” section of the Everything Dinosaur website: Everything Dinosaur.

Melamine Dinosaur Dinner Set

The design on this range depicts a number of prehistoric animals including a friendly looking Pteranodon, a turquoise Triceratops, a purple Stegosaurus and a hungry looking Tyrannosaurus rex, just what a young palaeontologist would expect to find on a dinner set designed with the Age of Reptiles in mind.  Available as individual items, to enable Everything Dinosaur customers to be flexible with their purchasing, these items are also available as a set.

The dinner set price has been discounted as an added incentive to encourage customers to purchase.  Included in the tableware set is the hard-wearing, matching dinosaur placemat, so Mums and Dads have everything they need to turn meal times into a dinosaur adventure.  The tough, robust tableware set is dishwasher safe and is suitable for young dinosaur fans from 12 months and upwards.

Ideal for Young Children

The table ware has been designed with little ones in mind, the plate is segmented to permit food items to be served separately if required, a good idea – parents and guardians can check what has been eaten.  The sections also assist young children with their eating as the walls of each section can assist with them getting food onto the fork and spoon.  Thought and attention has also gone into the design of the utensils and the cup.  They are ideal for little hands to grasp.  Even the bowl has been designed with care, its steep sides help prevent splashes.

Having proved popular on test, looks like the three geological periods of the Mesozoic – Triassic, Jurassic and the Cretaceous will have to renamed – breakfast, lunch and dinner!

New Soft-Touch Giant Pteranodon

By |2022-11-09T11:59:40+00:00February 12th, 2008|Categories: Everything Dinosaur News and Updates, Everything Dinosaur Products, Main Page, Press Releases|0 Comments

New Soft-Touch Pteranodon (Flying Reptile)

Flying reptiles, more correctly termed pterosaurs are very popular with young dinosaur fans and budding palaeontologists.  Although not dinosaurs, these flying reptiles did evolve from archosaurs so they share a common ancestor with the dinosaurs.  Appearing some time in the Triassic, the pterosaurs were the first group of back-boned animals to develop powered flight and they dominated the skies for over 100 million years evolving into all shapes and sizes until the emergence of the birds hastened their decline.

Towards the very end of the Age of Reptiles, the last pterosaurs evolved into giant gliding forms, some with wingspans bigger than a small plane.  Perhaps, the best known of these flying reptiles was Pteranodon, with its toothless beak (the name means toothless flyer) and bizarre bony crest.  Remains of Pteranodon have been found all over the world in North America, England and Asia.  Some species of Pteranodon had wingspans in excess of 9 metres.

Giant Pteranodon Model

Team members at Everything Dinosaur have been searching for a reasonably accurate model of Pteranodon, this new model, just added to our range is very nicely painted and very detailed.  For example the crest is a bright colour and patterned.  Palaeontologists believe that Pteranodon may have used its crest not only in flight to stabilise it, but also in displays to put off rivals and attract a mate.

The New, Large Pteranodon Figure from Everything Dinosaur

This figure is moulded in soft-touch plastic, it is easy for a youngster to carry around, soft and squeezy and makes an ideal addition to a young dinosaur fan’s collection.  The wings and body even show texturing, given the impression of fur, as scientists now believe that pterosaurs were warm-blooded and they may have been covered with fur to help insulate their bodies and keep them warm.

To view Everything Dinosaur’s range of dinosaur soft toys: Prehistoric Animal Soft Toys.

The close up of the head shows the fine detail and painting, also it illustrates one of the points crucial to our dinosaur experts and enthusiasts.  The model shows Pteranodon with no teeth, like many later flying reptiles, the teeth were lost, perhaps to lose weight just as birds have lost their teeth as well.  As fossils of Pteranodon have been found in marine sediments, palaeontologists believe this animal was a fish-eater, flying low over the surface of the sea and jabbing its head down to pick up fish at the water’s surface.

No Lyme Regis Fossil Festival for 2008 – Unique Event Postponed

By |2024-04-03T07:41:16+01:00February 7th, 2008|Categories: Everything Dinosaur News and Updates, Main Page, Press Releases|0 Comments

Lyme Regis Fossil Festival Cancelled for this Year

The Lyme Regis Fossil Festival that was scheduled to run over the first Bank Holiday weekend of May, has been cancelled.  Unfortunately, what would have been the fourth festival has been pulled due to lack of sponsorship for this event.

Lyme Regis Fossil Festival

Plans are already in place to continue the festival and to make the event bigger in 2009, themed around the 200th anniversary of the birth of Charles Darwin, the English scientist who influenced scientific thought through his theory of evolution.

Everything Dinosaur has been involved with this event since its inception,  helping to organise the event and participating with the events down at the Lyme Regis sea front and at nearby Charmouth on the “Jurassic” Dorset coast.

Past programmes have involved experts from the Natural History museum running fossil roadshows and identifying local finds, as well as events to mark the redevelopment of this part of the coast and the Lyme Regis coastal protection scheme.

Fossil Hunting in Dorset

Team members from Everything Dinosaur will no doubt be down in Dorset over the next few months and we will of course post further updates as progress on the 2009 events is made.

So roll on 2009.

In the meantime, visit Everything Dinosaur’s award-winning website: Everything Dinosaur.

Visiting Special Trade Shows – Everything Dinosaur is a sought after Company

Trade Shows – Everything Dinosaur Team Members being asked for Advice

Team members at Everything Dinosaur are often asked by parents and teachers to recommend a model or a set of models for a young dinosaur fan.  There are certainly lots of models to choose from and as a result the choice of a model can be a little confusing.

Many parents and teachers want to purchase dinosaur models that are reasonably accurate, that come with correct and scientifically based information and of course can help encourage creative play.  There are so many dinosaur sets around these days, but many are poorly designed and are simply not accurate.  Some of the team members at Everything Dinosaur are asked to advise on hang tag information, to write information notes to accompany models and such like.  Recent visits to a couple of trade fairs demonstrated clearly how many items purporting to depict prehistoric animals are available but they are simply not accurate.  It is a great shame to us (and also a source of immense frustration); when we see a model or an item such as a child’s dinner service, all nicely designed but the information provided is simply not correct.  Many adults purchase dinosaur and prehistoric animal merchandise in the belief that they are helping educate and encourage their children, but it saddens us when we see items and merchandise that contain information that are simply not accurate.

We do appreciate that to employ palaeontologists and museum staff to check and research data can be expensive but when the packaging, design and tooling costs are considered any expense in checking information would be relatively small.  Many of the wholesalers and retailers of such items are ignorant of this, they claim that their products are educational and talk openly about the information and facts that are included with their products.  However, as palaeontology is such a fluid science it can be difficult to keep up with the latest research and findings.  Many items have spelling mistakes, incorrect fact sheets and so on, which is a shame as young children have such an enthusiasm and are so keen to learn and absorb information.  We openly admit, we can make mistakes from time to time.  On numerous occasions the error of our ways has been pointed out by a well-informed young person and we do understand the appearance of dinosaurs and prehistoric animals can be open to interpretation.  For example, in many instances the posture of a model has to be compromised due to the difficulties in being able to sculpt and design an animal that can stand up.  The theropods are the worst, getting an allosaur or a tyrannosaur model to be stable when they are bipedal and difficult to balance with big heads and long tails, for instance.  This problem is solved by making the feet disproportionately bigger, or by putting the animal in a more stable posture “kangaroo style” as we call it.

We try and advise manufacturers and many approach us to pick our collective brains over prototypes and design concepts.  One of the interesting things that has begun to happen over the last 12 months or so is that our team members have been actively sought out by the MDs of companies to help and assist with design processes and packaging.  Having been to two trade fairs in 48-hours we have come back with a few new product ideas and suggestions and a lot of requests for assistance and help with other dinosaur and prehistoric animal related products.

The Most Popular Prehistoric Animals – Everything Dinosaur Survey Results

The fierce carnivore Tyrannosaurus rex is children’s favourite dinosaur, although Stegosaurus is catching up according to a survey published by the team at Everything Dinosaur, the specialist educational toy company.

Using information gathered from dinosaur drawing workshops with schoolchildren, as well as product sales and viewings from the company’s website Everything Dinosaur Website, a top ten list of popular prehistoric animals has been compiled. Not surprisingly, the ferocious Tyrannosaurus rex tops the chart but the gentle plant eater Stegosaurus has replaced Velociraptor in the number two position.

Prehistoric Mammals are well represented in the list with the Sabre-toothed cat and the Woolly Mammoth continuing to be popular.  With the appearance of a Sabre-toothed cat (Smilodon) in the next episode of the Primeval television programme on ITV1 (Saturday 26th January), the Smilodon is expected to be boosted further in popularity.
