Promoting the Beasts of the Mesozoic Figures

Everything Dinosaur team members are proud to stock the amazing Beasts of the Mesozoic range of articulated prehistoric animal figures.  Some team members have some of these models themselves, they are dinosaur model collectors too.  After the recent updates to the Everything Dinosaur website, it was time to update the home page so, why not adorn it with a new visual promoting both the Beasts of the Mesozoic “raptors” and the recently introduced ceratopsian figures.

The New Promotional Slide for the Everything Dinosaur Website (Beasts of the Mesozoic Models)

The Beasts of the Mesozoic range of dinosaur models can be found here: Beasts of the Mesozoic Dinosaur Models and Articulated Figures.

Limited Edition “Alpha”, Zuniceratops and the Sub-adult Triceratops (T. horridus)

The new vision highlights three of the dinosaurs within this exciting and popular range.  The “raptor” (left) is the Beasts of the Mesozoic limited-edition Velociraptor osmolskae replica, a fantastic 1:6 scale replica of this Asian predator, a sister taxon to Velociraptor mongoliensis.  In the centre, there is an image of the colourful Zuniceratops (Z. christopheri) the smallest ceratopsian model currently in this range.  This hand-painted figure has an amazing nineteen points of articulation.

On the right, there is an image of one of the larger ceratopsids within this range, indeed the model represents one of the biggest of the horned dinosaurs known to science, the famous Triceratops (T. horridus).

What a terrific trio of dinosaur models!

A range of figures representing horned dinosaurs and some of their earlier ancestors was added to the Beasts of the Mesozoic portfolio recently.  There are a total of nine figures in this range at the moment but there are plans to add a whole herd of new horned dinosaurs in the near future.

PNSO Prehistoric Animals Feature in Everything Dinosaur Newsletter

The latest Everything Dinosaur newsletter features the exciting new for 2021 editions to the popular PNSO prehistoric animal model range.  In total, seven recently arrived figures are featured, six dinosaurs and a replica of the bizarre Chinese, herbivorous marine reptile known as Atopodentatus (Zewail the Atopodentatus).  Headlining our latest newsletter is the excellent Essien the Spinosaurus, which is not to be confused with the much larger 1:35 scale Spinosaurus replica also called Essien, within the PNSO model range.

A Pair of Duck-billed Dinosaurs

A pair of duck-billed dinosaurs also feature in the latest Everything Dinosaur customer newsletter.  Both dinosaurs are members of the Lambeosaurinae, they belong to the crested hadrosaurs group.  This sub-family may have been named after Lambeosaurus, but ironically, Corythosaurus represented by the model named Caroline, was named and scientifically described earlier than Lambeosaurus (represented by the model entitled Audrey).  Corythosaurus was named and described in 1914, whilst Lambeosaurus was formally described in 1923.

Atopodentatus and Tuojiangosaurus Models

The customer newsletter also features the PNSO Atopodentatus and the stunning stegosaur figure Tuojiangosaurus.  Both these prehistoric animals are synonymous with China.  Fossils of the bizarre Middle Triassic marine reptile Atopodentatus come from Yunnan Province, whereas fossils of the Late Jurassic Tuojiangosaurus have been found in Sichuan province that borders Yunnan to the north.

Ornithischians – Borealopelta and Pachyrhinosaurus

The last of the seven new prehistoric animal figures to be featured are both members of the bird-hipped group (Ornithischia), however, they are only distantly related.  Brian the Pachyrhinosaurus is one of several new horned dinosaur models expected in stock at Everything Dinosaur this year, whilst the beautiful Borealopelta is an armoured dinosaur that roamed what is now known as Canada, some 44 million years before the likes of Pachyrhinosaurus wandered across North America.

New PNSO Pinacosaurus Dinosaur Model

Everything Dinosaur in collaboration with PNSO announce that in 2021 a museum quality replica of Pinacosaurus will be added to the PNSO model range.  Over the last few months, Everything Dinosaur has released information about a huge range of new PNSO dinosaur models, including lots of armoured dinosaurs such as the new Tuojiangosaurus, Borealopelta, Sauropelta and Miragaia.  It is wonderful to see a Chinese manufacturer adding an Asian member of the Ankylosauridae family to their product portfolio.

This new Pinacosaurus dinosaur model will be in stock at Everything Dinosaur in 2021.

The new for 2021 PNSO Bart the Pinacosaurus dinosaur model (lateral view).   This new model is number 37 in the PNSO model series.

Pinacosaurus grangeri

Named and described in 1933 by the American palaeontologist C. W. Gilmore, the first fossils of this medium-sized member of the ankylosaur family were discovered by the famous American Museum of Natural History Museum expedition to the Gobi Desert of Mongolia in the early 1920s.  The genus name translates from the Latin as “plank lizard”, a reference to the small, plank-like dermal scutes associated with the top of the skull.  The trivial or species name honours Walter Wallis Granger one of the scientists involved with the American Museum of Natural History expedition.  It was Granger who found the first fossilised remains of this armoured dinosaur in 1923.

The dinosaur (P. grangeri) is estimated to have been around 5 metres long when fully grown.  Estimates of body weight vary, Gregory S. Paul estimates a body weight of 1,900 kilograms, whereas other researchers, suggest that this armoured dinosaur was relatively lightly-built when compared to similarly sized ankylosaurines such as Tarchia (T. kielanae), Ziapelta (Z. sanjuanensis) and Aletopelta (A. coombsi).

Lots of Specimens to Study

The design at PNSO have been spoilt for choice when it comes to Pinacosaurus.   There are numerous fossil specimens to study including almost complete individual skeletons.  Most of the fossil material represents juveniles and as these remains tend to be found in groups, it has been suggested that these herbivores roamed their desert environment in small herds.

Pinacosaurus has been featured in a diorama by the renowned artist Zhao Chuang depicting the dinosaur dominated Late Cretaceous Asian ecosystem

Inspired by the Australian Mountain Devil?

Everything Dinosaur team members noted the striking similarity between Bart the PNSO Pinacosaurus model and the extant Australian agamid lizard known as the Mountain Devil or Moloch (Moloch horridus).  The colours chosen for the PNSO model are reminiscent of the colour of the Moloch, a thorny lizard which is widespread in Australia.

PNSO Domingo the Carnotaurus Model

Having announced the introduction of a replica of the giant South American theropod Carnotaurus (C. sastrei), on their various social media platforms, Everything Dinosaur have dedicated a blog post to this new for 2021 PNSO dinosaur model.  This provides the UK-based Everything Dinosaur the opportunity to post up some more images of this eagerly anticipated dinosaur, a figure that will be in stock later this year, perhaps in just a few weeks.

PNSO Domingo the Carnotaurus dinosaur model.  The colouration and detailing on this new for 2021 theropod replica are quite remarkable.

Domingo the PNSO Carnotaurus

It is appropriate that the PNSO Carnotaurus (number 36 in the PNSO prehistoric animal models that accompany your growth series), has been given a Latin name (Domingo).  Fossils of this famous abelisaurid are known from southern Argentina.  Indeed, the majority of the abelisauroids described to date herald from the southern hemisphere (the ancient landmass of Gondwana).

Model Measurements

The PNSO Carnotaurus figure measures around 23.5 cm in length.  The height of those prominent head crests, the helped to give this dinosaur its name (Carnotaurus means meat-eating bull), are around 11.5 cm off the ground.  Although PNSO do not declare a scale for their mid-size range of dinosaurs, Everything Dinosaur team members estimate that this new for 2021 figure is in around 1/32th scale.

In common with other recently announced PNSO theropod replicas (A-shu the Qianzhousaurus and the new Wilson Tyrannosaurus rex model), this new Carnotaurus has an articulated lower jaw.

A spokesperson from Everything Dinosaur commented:

“The new PNSO Carnotaurus has been very carefully modelled on the fossil material and the body proportions including those reduced front limbs and that deep skull have been skilfully reproduced.  The hind legs are in the correct body proportions too.  A clear plastic support stand is provided to help stabilise the figure when on display.”

The New ITOY Studio Resurrection Dilophosaurus

By |2024-05-18T08:10:28+01:00January 3rd, 2021|Dinosaur Fans, Everything Dinosaur Products, Main Page, Photos of Everything Dinosaur Products, Press Releases, Product Reviews|0 Comments

ITOY Studio Resurrection Dilophosaurus

The ITOY Studio Resurrection Dilophosaurus dinosaur model has certainly caused a stir with prehistoric animal fans and dinosaur model collectors since its arrival at Everything Dinosaur.  This beautiful replica, depicting what is now believed to have been one of the largest terrestrial carnivores on the planet during the Early Jurassic.  It ticks all the boxes when it comes to dinosaur replicas, with its innovative colouration, stability and stunning detail.

ITOY Studio Resurrection Dilophosaurus and Revising Dilophosaurus

A recent revision of Dilophosaurus fossil material (D. wetherilli) revealed that the lower jaw (dentary), was more robust than previously realised and it has been suggested that this dinosaur was a much more formidable predator, a terror of the contemporary Sarahsaurus, a member of the Sauropodomorpha.  The large crests on the ITOY figure reflect the latest thinking in terms of the crest size and the design team have given their figure crimson head crests, possibly a nod towards the idea that these crests were primarily used for display.  The inside of the mouth is particularly well painted.  The Dilophosaurus has an articulated jaw, so the figure can be posed with mouth closed, mouth open or indeed somewhere in between.

The Model measures a fraction over twenty centimetres in length.  The head is some seven and a half centimetres off the ground.  Naturally, when placed on its display base the figure appears a little taller.  Team members at Everything Dinosaur have enjoyed taking photographs and videos of this replica.  There are plans to make a more detailed video in the future showcasing this model and revealing just how securely this dinosaur stands on its base.

A Trio of Rebor Oddities G-2016 Embryos

Time to start the New Year (2021) with a bang!  At midnight on the 31st December, Everything Dinosaur made the three new Rebor Oddities (Rebor Oddities Specimens: G-2016 Embryos), available for pre-order.  These innovative, science-fiction/fantasy pieces have already attracted a lot of interest from model collectors and dinosaur fans.  In a co-ordinated post with Rebor, customers of Everything Dinosaur are able to guarantee themselves one of these figures.

The Rebor Oddities Specimen: G-2016 Embryo in Resinite.  The embryo of the fantasy creature with the code name G-2016 is entombed in resinite.  The hand-written note inscribed on the piece reads “Rebor Oddities confidential collection.”

Rebor Oddities Specimens

The Rebor Oddities sub-brand has introduced to collectors a wide variety of innovative items.  The first to be introduced was the “Fossil Studies” Tylosaurus proriger skeleton incorporated within its own light-up display base.  This figure was swiftly followed by the beautiful “Chickenosaurus” embryo model.  Recently a trio of museum quality dinosaur fossil skulls have been introduced and followers of Everything Dinosaur on social media will know that later on this year the Compsognathus longipes preserved dissection specimens will be coming into stock.

The Rebor Oddities Specimen: G-2016 Embryo in Bakelite.  A limited number of these fascinating figures have been made and collectors are urged to place pre-orders quickly in order to avoid disappointment.

Limited Numbers Available

In a statement put out by Rebor on social media, they have explained that pre-ordering will only be available for a few days.  Rebor went onto add that all three variants (Bakelite, Epoxide and Resinite), are extremely limited due to the high manufacturing defect rates, so a restricted number have been produced.  It is not known at this stage whether or not there will be another production run in the future.

Model Measurements (Rebor Oddities G-2016 Embryos)

Each carefully crafted figure measures approximately 18.5 cm long.  They stand a fraction over 10.5 cm tall and the block which holds the embryo model is 3 cm deep.  Each of these clever replicas helps to showcase the innovative approach taken by Rebor.  They will provide a talking point and a highlight within a collection.

Everything Dinosaur estimates that each model will be available to send out to customers in late March.

The New ITOY Studio Paraceratherium Product Testing

By |2024-06-10T10:48:15+01:00December 31st, 2020|Dinosaur Fans, Everything Dinosaur News and Updates, Everything Dinosaur Products, Everything Dinosaur videos, Main Page, Photos of Everything Dinosaur Products, Product Reviews|0 Comments

ITOY Studio Paraceratherium Product Testing

Everything Dinosaur promised the company’s Facebook, Twitter and other social media fans/followers an update on the amazing ITOY Studio Paraceratherium figure before the end of the year (2020).  True to our word, we have posted up a short video on the Everything Dinosaur YouTube channel.  In the video, the narrator explains about product testing for these prehistoric animal replicas and if all goes to plan, the Paraceratherium models will be in stock at Everything Dinosaur early in 2021.

ITOY Studio Paraceratherium Product Testing

A Quick YouTube Paraceratherium Preview

Before Everything Dinosaur can bring the ITOY Studio Paraceratherium models into stock, the figures have to pass product safety tests, but this doesn’t stop us giving you a quick preview of the Paraceratherium.  In the video we showcase both variants:

  • ITOY Studio Paraceratherium – Deluxe (model supplied with polystone display base)
  • ITOY Studio Paraceratherium – Elite (model supplied without polystone display base)

The Paraceratherium Model with Display Base (Deluxe)

For prehistoric animal models and figures: Prehistoric Animal Models and Figures.

What a fantastic model it is!  The detail on the figure is simply amazing!  It is incredibly life-life with beautiful skin folds and creases.  It is big too, the model measures over 40 cm long and the display base is a generous 32 cm in length and over 14 cm wide.

Works with 1:20 Scale Replicas

Although no scale is declared for this figure, based on an adult Paraceratherium being around 8 metres in length with a height at the withers (just behind the shoulders), of 4.5 metres, Everything Dinosaur team members estimate that this replica is in approximately 1:20 scale.  So, it will work well with lots of other prehistoric mammal models, which are in the same or similar scale such as Mastodons, Mammoths, Sabre-toothed cats and Hyaenodonts.

Once Product Testing Has Been Completed Everything Dinosaur Intends to Bring this Figure into Stock

Paraceratherium Model Product Testing

As the authorised European importers of the ITOY Studio range, Everything Dinosaur has commissioned product safety tests with the highly respected Eurofins (independent testing company).  Once these tests have been completed and the ITOY Studio figures certified, Everything Dinosaur intends to bring these spectacular models into stock.

A spokesperson for Everything Dinosaur stated that they hoped that the test results would be available in a few days, once certified, the Paraceratherium figures would be available early in 2021.

Everything Dinosaur announced on the company’s social media pages earlier this month that in 2021 PNSO was going to be adding a model of the Chinese theropod Qianzhousaurus (Q. sinensis) to their model range.  Today, we can post up some more images of this exciting tyrannosaurid replica, a figure that will be available from Everything Dinosaur early next year.

“Pinocchio rex”

Named and described in 2014 (Junchang Lü et al), this Late Cretaceous member of the Tyrannosauridae family from Jiangxi Province, was nicknamed “Pinocchio rex” as its snout was disproportionately longer than other, similar sized tyrannosaurids.  Its discovery confirmed that there was a branch of the tyrannosaur family tree that consisted of large, hypercarnivores with different shaped skulls compared to their deep-skulled, bone-crunching cousins.

Ever since the first fossils of Alioramus came to light in the early 1970’s, palaeontologists had suspected that there was sub-branch of the Tyrannosauridae family.  Qianzhousaurus shed light on the “other evolutionary branch” of tyrannosaurids.

The new for 2021 PNSO Qianzhousaurus model will have an articulated lower jaw.

Model Measurements

The Qianzhousaurus figure measures a fraction under 24 cm in length and the raised tail is a just under 10 cm high.  Although this dinosaur has been named from incomplete remains (see skeletal drawing showing the known fossil material below), palaeontologists estimate that this predator was around 8-9 metres in length, based on this, Everything Dinosaur estimates that the PNSO model is approximately 1:35 scale.

A Clear Rod to Help Support the Dinosaur

Qianzhousaurus is supplied with a plastic stand, that when placed under the chest area helps to support the model.  The clear plastic stand is designed to be unobtrusive and it permits the body proportions of this meat-eating dinosaur to be kept accurate as per the scientific record.  There is no need for oversized feet on this tyrannosaurid replica.
