Two New Mojo Fun Prehistoric Animal Models for 2025

By |2025-02-15T21:46:48+00:00January 30th, 2025|Mojo Fun and Prehistoric and Extinct Animals|0 Comments

Mojo Fun will introduce two new prehistoric animal models this year (2025).  The company will introduce a model of the Late Cretaceous theropod from South America called Carnotaurus.  In addition, they will add a model of a plesiosaur (Cryptoclidus) to the range.  It seems that blue is the colour for 2025 according to Mojo Fun!  In 2024, no new Mojo Fun models were introduced.  It is wonderful to see a pair of new models for 2025.

New Mojo Fun Models

The Mojo Fun Carnotaurus has a remarkable pair of horns.  They are extremely prominent and give the model quite a formidable look.  The figure has been painted in a matt blue finish with a lighter underside.  The plesiosaur is also painted blue, but a much deeper hue.  The needle-like teeth at the front of the mouth are present as well as the large eyes. However, in our examination of Cryptoclidus skull material we thought the orbits were positioned more to towards the top of the head.  This notwithstanding it is a fine figure with great colouration and fantastic counter shading.  The diamond-shaped tail is a welcome addition.

To view the range of Mojo Fun models available from Everything Dinosaur: Mojo Fun Prehistoric Animal Models.

It is pleasing to see Mojo Fun adding a Carnotaurus to their dinosaur collection. Furthermore, the Cryptoclidus model represents a plesiosaur that lived in the Middle Jurassic.  Most of the assigned fossil material comes from Oxford Clay deposits from Cambridgeshire.  The Cryptoclidus genus was erected in 1892 (Seeley). It is one of our favourite plesiosaurs.

Mike from Everything Dinosaur praised Mojo Fun for introducing new sculpts for 2025.

New Rebor Tyrannosaurus rex Cream Models Reviewed

By |2025-01-29T19:14:59+00:00January 29th, 2025|Rebor Models and Figures|0 Comments

Our thanks to dinosaur model collector Carl, who sent into Everything Dinosaur his review of the new Rebor Tyrannosaurus rex Cream figures.  Carl is a big fan of the King Kong movie franchise.

Here is his review:

Rebor Tyrannosaurus rex Cream Figures

In August 2024, a team member from the fantastic Everything Dinosaur posted up a blog with an announcement to say that Rebor Studio are starting production on a brand-new dinosaur figure. It was to be another Tyrannosaurus rex. This new sculpture comes in two different colour variants, the first one is called “Skull Walker”.  The second is known as the “Mountain” colour variant. These two simply incredible dinosaur figures are a must have if you love the 2005 version of the cinematic epic movie “King Kong” – a fantastic fantasy film which was directed by Mr Peter Jackson.

A film that Mr Jackson said he always wanted to do. Furthermore, for a remake to be filmed as close as possible to the original 1933 version, well I think he pulled it off superbly.

Unfortunately, the giant theropod Vastatosaurus rex has had only one showing in the movies. It would be fantastic to see this awesome carnivorous giant show its dominance in another Kong film, or in any future releases from the Monsterverse movie franchise, doubtful but always hoping.

Vastatosaurus rex

Rebor Studio has no official licence to name these as the antagonist from the movie which is the awesome Vastatosaurus rex – (Ravager Lizard King) so, for all intense purposes it is labelled as a Tyrannosaurus rex.

However, these two recent additions are truly fantastic, both models are the same sculpt, once the flexible tail is assembled you can see you have a decent sized figure to display.

To view the range of Rebor models and figures available from Everything Dinosaur: Rebor Figures.

For help with the assembly of this dinosaur I would definitely recommend you check out all the hints and tips posted by one of the team members at Everything Dinosaur. It is a big help – thank you.

Impressive Models

Once you have hold of this impressive model you can see the amount of detail that has gone into its production.  It is a carefully researched model which has a good screen likeness to the Vastatosaurus rex in the 2005 King Kong movie. Both dinosaurs have incredible skin and scale detail. Looking at the figures from a bird’s eye view gives the appearance of a crocodile (Crocodilia – order of the crocodilians), again relatives of the Dinosauria.

The pose on both models is dynamic, the Mountain colour is more like the Vastatosaurus rex in the movie.  The end battle shows a very similar stance if you look closely at it, it is a fantastic figure. However, for me personally, it is the look of the animal itself, if you stared straight at this animal, I believe it would most certainly stare right back with such a vicious and menacing appearance.  It is a dinosaur no one would want to mess with.

A close-up view of the beautiful and detailed head of the Rebor T. rex Cream (Mountain colour variant).

None of this movie nonsense “don’t move – it won’t see you if you don’t move” – a line from Jurassic Park. Tyrannosaurus rex, fictional or not would probably have been a very active hunter, scavenging at times yes, no different to any other predators past or present.

Anyway…….

Anyway, to behold, this impressive model is now in stock at the fantastic award-winning Everything Dinosaur. A company that is dedicated to everything dinosaur related and palaeontology news and information from around the world.

Thank You Everything Dinosaur

Finally, a huge thank you to the team members at Everything Dinosaur for supplying these beautiful Rebor Tyrannosaurus rex Cream figures – thank you!

Visit the award-winning Everything Dinosaur website: Everything Dinosaur.

To Rebor Studio – from a collector’s point of view, I hope the continuation in producing some fantastic dinosaur collectables continues in the future and beyond. Thank you for producing two more stunning Tyrannosaurus rex figures to add to your catalogue and to my collection also.

One final thing to add is that the new Rebor Tyrannosaurus rex Cream figures stand perfectly well on a stable flat surface, preferably away from any heat source, indoor heating or in direct sunlight.

Our thanks to Carl for sending in his dinosaur model review.

A Beautiful Acanthostega Replica on Display in a Museum

By |2025-01-29T21:28:44+00:00January 18th, 2025|Dinosaur and Prehistoric Animal Models|0 Comments

The Oxford University Museum of Natural History is a wonderful place to visit.  There are some remarkable fossils on display.  Amongst the dinosaurs, giant birds and mammals there are some smaller tetrapods to marvel.  For example, during a visit to Oxford, a team member took a photograph of a beautiful Acanthostega gunnari replica on display at the museum.  The model shows a four-legged animal with a wide tail to help propel it through water. The mouth is large and lined with small, sharp teeth.  The eyes are located on top of the head.  Described as a stem tetrapod, Acanthostega evolved from lobe-finned fishes (Sarcopterygii).  It lived in freshwater swamps during the Late Devonian (365 million years ago).

Acanthostega gunnari

The fossilised remains of this sixty-centimetre-long animal indicate that it spent most of its life in water. Although it had limbs, the front limbs were relatively immobile and therefore not capable of being positioned under the body to support the weight of the animal on land. Palaeontologists believe A. gunnari held its limbs out to the side and paddled along. The limbs would also have helped this aquatic animal push its way through dense water weeds.

It was formally named and described in 1952 by the Swedish palaeontologist and prehistoric fish expert Erik Jarvik.  The first fossilised remains of this creature were discovered in the 1930s.  However, it was the 1987 specimen found in East Greenland by a field team headed by Jenny Clack that led to the significance of this taxon being realised.

Researchers were able to identify key anatomical developments that would permit the descendants of these stem tetrapods to become fully adapted to a terrestrial existence. For example, Acanthostega had primitive lungs for breathing air as well as internal gills. In addition, it is the earliest stem-tetrapod to show the shift in locomotory dominance away from the upper part of the body (pectoral girdle) to the pelvic girdle.

Studying the Limbs

It is now known that most stem tetrapods such as Acanthostega and Ichthyostega and more than five digits associated with the manus and pes.  For example, Acanthostega had eight digits on each hand (manus).   The number of digits on each foot is uncertain, but more than five has been suggested.  It had been thought that pentadactyly (five digits associated with the end of each limb), was an ancestral trait of the Tetrapoda. The feet and hands of Acanthostega were webbed.

A close view of the pes of Acanthostega gunnari. Scientists know that this stem tetrapod had eight digits on the manus (hand). However, the number of digits on the pes (foot) remains unknown. Picture credit: Everything Dinosaur.

Mike from Everything Dinosaur commented:

“The beautiful Acanthostega replica is displayed next to Devonian fish fossils and early tetrapod specimens.  It helps visitors to visualise how the first land animals evolved from fish.”

It certainly is a fantastic, life-size replica.  We congratulate the design team and the artist who made this model.

The new for 2024 CollectA Deluxe Diprotodon model has been getting some special attention lately.  For example, one of our 1:20 scale Diprotodon figures was photographed by a film company.  The carefully crafted figure was perfectly at home in the studio surrounded by lights and cameras.  We think this replica of the largest marsupial known to science enjoyed all the attention.

Mike from Everything Dinosaur explained that the arms were quite difficult to move.  He suggested:

“It might be sensible to heat the base of the arms with a hair dryer.  A short burst from a hair dryer would make the arms easier to move and to position.  In addition, it can be a struggle to fit the tail into the back of the figure.  You can dip the tail plug into hot water or add a smear of vegetable oil to help it slide into place.”

So, CollectA will introduce a total of seven prehistoric animal models next year (2025).  They are an eclectic bunch.  There are four dinosaurs, an invertebrate (Jaekelopterus rhenaniae) and a prehistoric mammal.  In addition, we have a “Terror Bird” the ferocious Phorusrhacos.

New for 2025 the CollectA Jaekelopterus model in 1:20 scale.

New for 2025 a scale model of Jaekelopterus rhenaniae.

The Palaeozoic is represented by a 1:20 scale model of the giant “sea scorpion” Jaekelopterus rhenaniae.  It is supplied with a model of a jawless fish.

Moving much closer to the present day, CollectA will introduce a replica of a Pleistocene prehistoric mammal.  The model of the giant short-faced bear is likely to be in stock at Everything Dinosaur in the early spring.

The Triassic is represented by the giant non-sauropod sauropodomorph Ingentia prima.  The fossils of Ingentia come from the Quebrada del Barro Formation of north-western Argentina. It lived around 210 million years ago (Late Triassic).  The CollectA model will be a 1:40 scale figure.

Two Feathered Dinosaur Models

The two new CollectA theropods are both feathered.  The 1:20 scale figure of the ornithomimid Gallimimus sports a shaggy coat of feathers and is extremely bird-like.

In contrast to the graceful Gallimimus, the second theropod – Maip macrothorax represents one of the apex predators from the Late Cretaceous of South America. Maip macrothorax was formally described in 2022 (Rolando et al). Its fossils come from the Chorrillo Formation of Santa Cruz, Argentina.  This giant, robust predator may have measured in excess of ten metres in length.  The CollectA figure is in 1:40 scale.

Last but not least, is the new CollectA Deluxe 1:20 scale replica of the South American Miocene terror bird Phorusrhacos.  It too is technically a theropod dinosaur.  However, genetic research into the Aves, suggests that the Phorusrhacidae family are related to extant falcons.
