Rebor Dilophosaurus Dinosaur Models

The Rebor models can be purchased separately, or as a pair from Everything Dinosaur.  Each model has an articulated lower jaw, a flexible, bendy tail and articulated forelimbs.  Subtle variations in the paint scheme of each model highlight the perceived differences between the male figure “Green Day” and the female “Oasis”.  In an earlier blog article, Everything Dinosaur posted up information on how collectors can customise their Dilophosaurus figures by adding a colourful ruff, an adornment inspired by a very famous movie.

Beautiful Display Pieces

These beautiful display pieces are provided with their own bases and the models can be put together to make a two dinosaur replica diorama.  The male Dilophosaurus model “Green Day” measures over 23 centimetres in length and the female figure “Oasis” is comparable in size.  They are certainly stunning prehistoric animal models and their bases are very detailed too.

It is the different sized bases that explains the difference in the packaging sizes.  The Rebor Dilophosaurus “Oasis” model is supplied in a larger box.

A spokesperson from Everything Dinosaur commented:

“These two new Dilophosaurus models are just the latest in a number of theropod models that have been added to the range.  The Rebor range includes tyrannosaurs, Carnotaurus, Compsognathus, Ceratosaurus, Acrocanthosaurus and of course, lots of dromaeosaurids, colloquially known as the “Raptors”.  We are delighted to be able to add these Dilophosaurus models to our inventory.”

Everything Dinosaur has prepared fact sheets for all seven of these new models.  Customers purchasing these figures from Everything Dinosaur will be sent a fact sheet with their purchase.  The fact sheet includes a scale drawing of the prehistoric animal along with fascinating facts and snippets of information.

A spokesperson from Everything Dinosaur commented:

“For virtually every prehistoric animal figure we sell, we supply a fact sheet about that animal.  We take care to research these long extinct creatures and then we produce an A4-sized fact sheet which is then sent out with model purchases.  We are currently working on a further three new fact sheets so that we can provide these sheets when other new models come into stock.”

CollectA Elasmotherium, Baryonyx and Fukuiraptor

The last of the scheduled 2019 model releases from CollectA are now in stock at Everything Dinosaur.  The trio of prehistoric animal figures are the 1:20 scale Deluxe Elasmotherium model, the 1:40 scale Baryonyx and the prehistoric life Fukuiraptor model.  What an impressive set of prehistoric animal figures they make!

The CollectA Deluxe Elasmotherium Model

This is an excellent replica of this enigmatic member of the Rhinocerotidae family, a creature that has been nicknamed the “Siberian Unicorn”.  The design team at CollectA have emphasised the animal’s long legs and depicted it in an almost trotting pose.   A coat of rough shaggy hair generously covers the figure, although the presence of a shaggy coat, or indeed any hair whatsoever can only be inferred as the fossil record does not actually provide any substantive proof of the Elasmotherium having a dense coat.

The nature of the horn (if indeed it possessed one), is also largely speculative but CollectA have been careful to depict their Elasmotherium using the scientific literature as a guide.  Measuring around 26 centimetres in length and that horn standing some 15 cm tall, this is a most impressive model.

To purchase the CollectA Elasmotherium and the rest of the new for 2019 CollectA Deluxe prehistoric animal models: CollectA Deluxe Prehistoric Life Models.

The CollectA Fukuiraptor

From a prehistoric animal known from relatively recent and abundant fossil material from a wide area, to a dinosaur that is mostly known from a single quarry site representing strata laid down in the Early Cretaceous of Japan (Kitadani Formation).  Little is known about Fukuiraptor kitadaniensis.  It has been assigned to the Megaraptora clade but prior to this it was thought to be a derived allosauroid when first named and described nineteen years ago (Azuma, Yoichi; Philip J., Currie (2000). “A new carnosaur (Dinosauria: Theropoda) from the Lower Cretaceous of Japan”.  In an initial scientific study published in 1995,  it was thought that Fukuiraptor had affinities towards the Dromaeosauridae.

Fukuiraptor had large hands and powerful grasping fingers armed with strongly curved claws.   These features are well represented in this new dinosaur model.  CollectA have been keen to add more dinosaurs from Asia to their model range and Fukuiraptor has been one of the most eagerly anticipated models of 2019.

The CollectA Deluxe 1:40 scale Baryonyx Dinosaur Model

The third member of this impressive trio is the CollectA Deluxe Baryonyx dinosaur model (1:40 scale replica).  This model has an articulated jaw that has been designed to replicate the distinctive baryonchid dentition.  Since Baryonyx is associated with aquatic environments the design team at CollectA have given their model subtle webbing between the toes.

Dinosaur “Ruffs” Given Away for Free

DIY Dinosaur “Ruffs”

Our chums at Rebor have provided a little challenge to dinosaur fans and model collectors.  As this is the last day of “Jurassic June”, we thought it would be fun to see what those clever and creative people at Rebor have got up to.  It seems that they have produced some artwork for collectors to help them customise the next set of Rebor prehistoric animal figures that are due to come into stock.

Ruffs for the Rebor Dilophosaurus Figures

Here is an image of the artwork that Rebor has provided:

Colourful Dinosaur Frills to Customise Dinosaur Models

Fans of Rebor collectables will know that the next models to be introduced are a pair of Dilophosaurus dinosaurs (Dilophosaurus wetherilli).  These magnificent models, nick-named “Oasis” and “Green Day” are coming into stock at Everything Dinosaur in the next few days.  Team members will be emailing all those customers on our priority reserve list when these dinosaurs arrive.

Rebor models and replicas: Rebor Replicas and Figures.

Rebor Replicas – Dilophosaurus Dinosaurs (“Green Day” and “Oasis”

Rebor Dilophosaurus models "Green Day" and "Oasis"
The Rebor Dilophosaurus replicas “Green Day” and “Oasis”.

An Early Jurassic Predator

Dilophosaurus was an Early Jurassic, carnivorous dinosaur, so it is appropriate to feature this dinosaur as “Jurassic June” draws to a close.  We suspect that the frills could be used to adorn the necks of these beautiful figures, but we couldn’t possibly comment further.  After all, Dilophosaurus may be one of the most extensively studied of all the theropods known from the Lower Jurassic, but there is no fossil evidence to indicate that these predators had neck frills that could be “flashed” as part of a visual display.

Rebor Have Produced a Male and Female Dilophosaurus Figure

A Male and Female Dilophosaurus

The Rebor models depict a male and female Dilophosaurus.  There are subtle variations in the paint scheme used for each model to highlight the differences.  For example, the male “Green Day” has crimson markings on the bony crest over the eye (orbit).  Most palaeontologists are comfortable with the idea that these archosaurs, like living archosaurs today (birds and crocodilians), had excellent colour vision.  Visual signals may have been very important to the Dinosauria.

As to whether Dilophosaurus had an expandable neck ruff, is very much speculation, there is no fossil evidence to support such an idea.  However, popular culture such as books, films and television programmes have helped set up notable preconceptions in the minds of the public and who are we to challenge such views.

There is a reptile alive today that has a neck ruff, it is the neck-frilled lizard (Chlamydosaurus kingii), native to northern Australian and Papua New Guinea.  This relatively large lizard, can when frightened, extend a large ruff of skin out from its neck to produce a startling display, designed to intimidate attackers.  The neck frill usually lies folded against the animal’s neck, but by flexing its jaws and gaping, this lizard can engage cartilage supports that extend the skin folds out to produce a mock threat display that makes it look much more fearsome than the lizard actually is.

Prehistoric Animals were Show Offs

Just like many animals today, it is quite likely that visual display was very important to the extinct non-avian dinosaurs.  Back in 2010, Everything Dinosaur reported on the publication of a study by an international team of researchers which examined the fossil record to find evidence of visual display structures that probably had a primary function in sexual selection and attracting mates.

To read more about this research: Prehistoric Animals May Have Been Show Offs.

Rebor model fans might be able to work out what influenced Rebor’s decision to produce these accessories to help customise their models.  These colourful additions will be available from Everything Dinosaur free of charge, just drop us an email requesting the dinosaur frills and we will be happy to email them out.

To request these dinosaur frills: Email Everything Dinosaur.

Helpful Instructions

  1. Once you have the download, print it out using a colour printer.
  2. Carefully cut out each of the four sections.
  3. Glue part A and part B back-to-back so that there is colour showing on the front and on the rear of the ruff.
  4. Trim them until you are happy with their look, then use them to customise your Rebor models, for example, you could carefully manoeuvre the ruffs onto the tail, onto a limb or anywhere else on the model for that matter.

An Update on Rebor Stocks

Fans of the Rebor range are aware just how quickly this model portfolio has grown.  Not all the figures in stock are being produced again in the near future.  For example, the Rebor “War Pig” Ankylosaurus model (mountain), is getting low on stock and no future production run for this armoured dinosaur model has been announced.  Stocks of the very popular Rebor “Spring-heeled Jack” Velociraptor figure are similarly under pressure.

New Schleich 2019 Prehistoric Animal Models in Stock

The July releases of Schleich prehistoric animal models are now in stock at Everything Dinosaur.  Now available from the UK-based specialist dinosaur model retailer are the Schleich Diabloceratops, Dracorex, the juvenile Giganotosaurus and the Schleich Plesiosaurus figure.  These are the final set of prehistoric animal figures to be introduced by Schleich this year and what a splendid quartet they make.

Now in Stock at Everything Dinosaur the Latest Schleich Prehistoric Animal Figures

New for 2019 four more Schleich prehistoric animal models.

New Schleich Prehistoric Animal Models

Schleich has moved to a production system whereby new models are released in two main batches.  The first release took place in quarter 1, this second batch of new models was not due to be available until next month, but as Everything Dinosaur knows how eager their customers were to get these models, we were able to receive all four of these new replicas a little earlier.  In total Schleich have released nine new prehistoric animal figures this year.

Schleich Prehistoric Animal Models – Diabloceratops

Measuring around sixteen centimetres in length with a height measured from the tip of those impressive horns of eleven centimetres, the Schleich Diabloceratops works well when compared in scale with the Schleich Triceratops figure that was introduced in 2018.  It is a beautifully painted model and it is great to see a manufacturer producing models of some of the more unusual members of the Ceratopsia.

Schleich Dracorex Model

Another slightly obscure dinosaur added to the Schleich range is a representation of the pachycephalosaur Dracorex (D. hogwartsia).  This dinosaur’s name was inspired by children’s fascination with Harry Potter (Hogwarts School), we suspect the Schleich Dracorex is going to be popular with collectors fascinated with Schleich.

The Schleich Juvenile Giganotosaurus Dinosaur Model

Joining the recently introduced adult Giganotosaurus is this eye-catching replica of a juvenile Giganotosaurus.  Measuring around twenty-six centimetres in length, this is quite a large Schleich model.  Just like the Schleich adult Giganotosaurus figure, the Schleich juvenile Giganotosaurus has an articulated lower jaw.

Schleich Prehistoric Animal Models – The Plesiosaurus

The last of the four models to be introduced is not a dinosaur, but a marine reptile, a Plesiosaurus.  The long-retired Schleich “Saurus” range included a plesiosaur figure, but as far as we can recall it has been many years since this company made a Plesiosaurus.

The New Limited-edition Papo Spinosaurus – Further Update

Limited-edition Papo Spinosaurus – Further Update

At Everything Dinosaur, we try our best to keep model collectors and fans of dinosaur figures up to date with developments in the industry.  One of the most eagerly anticipated dinosaur models in years, the limited-edition Papo Spinosaurus, has been subject to further delays and it is not likely to be in stock until October (October 2019).

The Limited-edition Papo Spinosaurus – Expected October 2019

Papo Spinosaurus in Stock October 2019

At a recent meeting with senior Papo team members, Everything Dinosaur pressed for an update on the new for 2019 prehistoric animal figures due to be added to the company’s “Les Dinosaures” range.  Prior to this most recent meeting, Everything Dinosaur had been informed that this figure was due to be launched in August/September.  We put out a release about this at the beginning of this month (June 2019), however, according to the latest information, the figure’s production and painting has been subject to further delays and this figure is not due to be released until October.

A spokesperson from Everything Dinosaur commented:

“We are working closely with Papo to ensure that production of these figures runs as smoothly as possible, Papo want to produce a truly spectacular dinosaur model and have been working hard to manage the production process.  As soon as we have further information about this eagerly anticipated prehistoric animal replica we will ensure that this information is posted up onto this blog and our various other social media platforms.”

Production Samples

During a very productive meeting with Papo, a number of important issues were discussed.  It is likely that the first production samples will be available late July, these will come straight from the factory and team members at Everything Dinosaur will be able to examine them and to post up further information and pictures.  At least that is the plan, but with a complicated large figure such as this Spinosaurus (it measures more than forty centimetres in length), some further delays could occur.

We are able to confirm that this figure will be provided in a special presentation box and the model will stand nearly seventeen centimetres tall (measuring the height of the sail).

Tale of the Tape the Papo Spinosaurus

The actual Papo Spinosaurus (S. aegyptiacus) measurements are:

length = 40.3 cm, width 10.5 cm and height (height of sail) 16.5 cm.

The new colour variant Papo Stegosaurus model is expected to arrive at the Everything Dinosaur warehouse very shortly, with the Pentaceratops and the Gorgosaurus models to follow later.

Update on the Limited-edition Papo Spinosaurus

By |2023-12-24T20:23:22+00:00June 1st, 2019|Categories: Adobe CS5, Dinosaur Fans, Everything Dinosaur News and Updates, Everything Dinosaur Products, Main Page, Photos of Everything Dinosaur Products|1 Comment

Update on the Limited-edition Papo Spinosaurus

The limited-edition Papo Spinosaurus model has been delayed and the original launch date for this eagerly awaited dinosaur figure has been put back with a release date now estimated at August/September.  Everything Dinosaur remains heavily committed to this figure and by delaying this figure by a few weeks, this does permit both Papo and ourselves to ensure a successful roll out of other new for 2019 Papo models such as the Gorgosaurus, the new colour variant Stegosaurus and the Pentaceratops model.

Latest news:  Now likely to be in stock in October.

Papo Spinosaurus Figure Delayed

Technical Issues

Technical issues have been cited as the reason for the delay.  With such an eagerly anticipated dinosaur figure, we are confident that design team at Papo and the production staff would be wanting to create the very best, most detailed model possible and therefore it may be sensible to take a little longer with the production process and the design of the special box that this figure will be presented in.

Everything Dinosaur team members have been involved in detailed discussions concerning the boxing of this figure.  As a business, we are trying to cut down on single use cardboard as part of our environmental policy, aiming to maintain our excellent record when it comes to recycling cardboard and paper.  However, a spokesperson from Papo’s senior management commented that the gift box “really highlights the premium value of this limited-edition item” and added that “it’s also a good protection against shocks during the shipment.”

Same Papo Spinosaurus Model – New Delivery Date

Team members at Everything Dinosaur are hopeful that the first production samples will be ready for inspection in late July.  The expected delivery of models ready for sale to the wider public should be August/September, if Everything Dinosaur receives further information and updates, these will be published on this blogsite as well as on the company’s various social media platforms.

A spokesperson from Everything Dinosaur stated:

“All those people who are on Everything Dinosaur’s priority reserve list will still be offered a model, nothing has changed for them in terms of being guaranteed the chance to purchase this limited edition figure.”

The spokesperson went onto add:

“We have a meeting with Papo in a couple of weeks’ time, we hope to receive further information and if there is any additional news regarding this model or indeed any of the other new for 2019 figures such as the Papo Pentaceratops, the Gorgosaurus or the new colour variant Stegosaurus, we shall be sure to pass this information onto our customers”.

Rebor Oddities Tyrannosaurus and Velociraptor Foetus Replicas

Everything Dinosaur will be stocking the pair of Rebor Oddities dinosaur foetus replicas (Tyrannosaurus and Velociraptor).  These highly unusual dinosaur figures are expected to arrive in stock at Everything Dinosaur’s warehouse in July and today, the UK-based mail-order company has formally announced that it will be stocking them.

Rebor Foetuses – Wet Specimens

Ever since Michael Crichton’s highly influential novel “Jurassic Park” was first published (1990), subsequently made into a film three years later, fans of dinosaurs have been trying to get hold of replicas of pre-hatched dinosaurs as envisaged by the scientists at the bioengineering company InGen run by industrialist and billionaire John Hammond.  The clever design team at Rebor have come up with their own take on this concept, portraying the foetuses of two iconic Late Cretaceous theropods Velociraptor and a representative of the Tyrannosaurus genus.

Each skilfully crafted model is displayed in its own storage jar.  The purchaser can add water to represent the fluid in which the specimen would have been kept in.  Both models reflect what is known about dinosaur embryos and show distal growth, although neither Velociraptor or any member of the Tyrannosaurus genus is represented in the fossil record by material representing a pre-hatched or recently hatched individual.

Priority reservation lists have been opened for both of these new Rebor Oddities replicas.  Dinosaur fans who had already requested to join the Rebor Dilophosaurus model reserve list “Green Day” and “Oasis”, that are due to be introduced prior to these two foetus models, have already been offered the chance to join Everything Dinosaur’s priority reserve lists.

A spokesperson for the company commented:

“These two foetus replicas from Rebor are likely to sell out fast, so we thought it fair to offer the chance to join our VIP reserve list for these two models, to those collectors who had already contacted us about the new Rebor Dilophosaurus dinosaur replicas.”

Tale of the Tape – Rebor Oddities

The Rebor Oddities range provides collectors with the opportunity to acquire more unusual prehistoric animal figures and replicas.  These types of models tend to sell out quickly and can rapidly become difficult to obtain.  Everything Dinosaur will be bringing into stock a limited number of these new Rebor Oddities.  As for their sizes, the Tyrannosaurus figure is slightly larger than the Velociraptor replica, a probable true reflection on the size of these dinosaur embryos from back in the Late Cretaceous.

  • Rebor Oddities Tyrannosaurus foetus replica measuring  22.5 cm x 9 cm from the top of the jar to the base.
  • Rebor Oddities Velociraptor foetus replica measuring 18 cm x 7. 5 cm from the top of the jar to the base.

These figures are likely to be highly sought after, demand for them could outstrip supply and at the moment, based on current estimates, a July delivery date at Everything Dinosaur’s warehouse is forecast.

Allosaurus an Iconic American Dinosaur

Allosaurus (A. fragilis) has been described as an iconic American dinosaur.  This large theropod is known from dozens of fossil specimens, all associated with the famous Upper Jurassic Morrison Formation of the western United States.

A fearsome predator, Allosaurus has also been called “the lion of the Jurassic”.  Several species have been named and most natural history museums have some Allosaurus spp. fossils amongst their dinosaur fossil collections.  Allosaurus is also one of the most extensively studied of all the large theropods known to science.  Team members at Everything Dinosaur, got to see prototypes of this new for 2019 model some months ago, it is great to see this figure actually in stock.

Beautiful Paintwork and Fantastic Detailing

As with all Safari Ltd prehistoric animal models, there is much to be admired in this new Allosaurus figure.  The model has been well-crafted and is stable on its two hind legs.  The eye crests are highlighted in blood red and the model has beautiful paintwork and fantastic detailing of the scales on the skin.  Safari Ltd have produced a number of Allosaurus figures over their long history of production.  This is perhaps, the most anatomically accurate of all the Allosaurus figures that they have made.
