CollectA armoured dinosaur models are popular with model collectors.  Whether it’s a Stegosaurus, Miragaia or the replica of the Australian armoured dinosaur Minmi, there is a lot to admire in this range.  Collectors have a wide choice of figures.  In addition, CollectA often makes figures of less well-known armoured dinosaurs such as the controversial Wuerhosaurus.  The first armoured dinosaur figure the company produced was a Stegosaurus.  However, shortly afterwards a model of a Polacanthus (P. foxii) was added to the CollectA Age of Dinosaurs range. Intriguingly, when the Deluxe range was introduced, one of the first models produced was a replica of Hylaeosaurus.

Several of these early CollectA models have been retired.  However, Everything Dinosaur still stocks numerous early CollectA models and we are grateful for collector Robert Townsend for sending us a picture of two of these early replicas.

Robert built a detailed diorama, and he populated it with prehistoric animals associated with fossil finds from the UK. For example, Polacanthus foxii is known from the Wessex Formation, whilst Hylaeosaurus fossils are associated with the Grinstead Clay Member.  Both these formations are components of the geologically significant Wealden Group.

CollectA recently updated their Polacanthus figure.  A 1:20 scale replica was produced that was based on the latest research.

The dermal armour of this member of the Ankylosauria clade has been carefully reconstructed on the figure. The arrangement of the spikes and bosses is largely speculative.  However, this CollectA Deluxe 1:20 scale model has been highly praised for its attention to detail.
