“Prehistoric Times” Issue 159

Mike Fredericks emailed Everything Dinosaur and explained that the two prehistoric animals featured in the autumn edition are Balaur bondoc and Fasolasuchus. Known from two partial skeletons, Balaur bondoc roamed Hateg Island around seventy million years ago. Its taxonomy remains uncertain, we look forward to reading more about its phylogeny in the forthcoming edition. On the other hand, the taxonomy of Fasolasuchus (F. tenax) is more certain.  It is the largest known rauisuchian. This formidable Late Triassic predator from Argentina was one of the last of the rauisuchians and it was a giant. Size estimates vary but it could have reached a length of ten metres.  Expect to see lots of amazing reader submitted artwork of these two, very different carnivores.

Palaeontologist Steve Brusatte has a new book out entitled “The Story of Birds”. It has been highly praised. Editor Mike Fredericks interviews Steve about his latest publication and examines the artwork within it. In addition, Paul McFarland includes an article about his trip to the Rio Tinto Natural History Museum in Utah.

There is a lot to look forward to and issue 159 will be available soon.
