An Update on Rebor Stocks

Fans of the Rebor range are aware just how quickly this model portfolio has grown.  Not all the figures in stock are being produced again in the near future.  For example, the Rebor “War Pig” Ankylosaurus model (mountain), is getting low on stock and no future production run for this armoured dinosaur model has been announced.  Stocks of the very popular Rebor “Spring-heeled Jack” Velociraptor figure are similarly under pressure.

Some Stocks of Rebor Figures are Getting Low

New Schleich 2019 Models in Stock

New Schleich 2019 Prehistoric Animal Models in Stock

The July releases of Schleich prehistoric animal models are now in stock at Everything Dinosaur.  Now available from the UK-based specialist dinosaur model retailer are the Schleich Diabloceratops, Dracorex, the juvenile Giganotosaurus and the Schleich Plesiosaurus figure.  These are the final set of prehistoric animal figures to be introduced by Schleich this year and what a splendid quartet they make.

Now in Stock at Everything Dinosaur the Latest Schleich Prehistoric Animal Figures

New for 2019 four more Schleich prehistoric animal models.

New Schleich Prehistoric Animal Models

Schleich has moved to a production system whereby new models are released in two main batches.  The first release took place in quarter 1, this second batch of new models was not due to be available until next month, but as Everything Dinosaur knows how eager their customers were to get these models, we were able to receive all four of these new replicas a little earlier.  In total Schleich have released nine new prehistoric animal figures this year.

Schleich Prehistoric Animal Models – Diabloceratops

Measuring around sixteen centimetres in length with a height measured from the tip of those impressive horns of eleven centimetres, the Schleich Diabloceratops works well when compared in scale with the Schleich Triceratops figure that was introduced in 2018.  It is a beautifully painted model and it is great to see a manufacturer producing models of some of the more unusual members of the Ceratopsia.

Schleich Dracorex Model

Another slightly obscure dinosaur added to the Schleich range is a representation of the pachycephalosaur Dracorex (D. hogwartsia).  This dinosaur’s name was inspired by children’s fascination with Harry Potter (Hogwarts School), we suspect the Schleich Dracorex is going to be popular with collectors fascinated with Schleich.

The Schleich Juvenile Giganotosaurus Dinosaur Model

Joining the recently introduced adult Giganotosaurus is this eye-catching replica of a juvenile Giganotosaurus.  Measuring around twenty-six centimetres in length, this is quite a large Schleich model.  Just like the Schleich adult Giganotosaurus figure, the Schleich juvenile Giganotosaurus has an articulated lower jaw.

Schleich Prehistoric Animal Models – The Plesiosaurus

The last of the four models to be introduced is not a dinosaur, but a marine reptile, a Plesiosaurus.  The long-retired Schleich “Saurus” range included a plesiosaur figure, but as far as we can recall it has been many years since this company made a Plesiosaurus.

New Papo Colour Variant Stegosaurus in Stock

The new for 2019 Papo Stegosaurus (colour variant) is in stock at Everything Dinosaur.  This repainted figure, is an update on the classical Papo Stegosaurus, (product code 55007), which was one of the very first prehistoric animals to be added to the company’s “Les Dinosaures” model range.

To purchase the new for 2019 Papo Stegosaurus and the other models and figures in the Papo range: Papo Prehistoric Animal Models.

A Makeover for the Papo Stegosaurus

The sculpt is as per the original Papo Stegosaurus figure but the model has been completely re-painted with the characteristic plates on the back and running down to the tail an almost “blood red” colour. This works well with the countershading highlighted on the figure’s body and the overlying dark stripes that provide a reticulation-like effect.  As collectors would expect from a Papo figure, the painting is excellent and the detailing around the open beak and the eye is particularly remarkable.  Eagle-eyed readers will observe tiny round spots of lighter paint in amongst the darker stripes, a nice touch from the design team at Papo.

A spokesperson from Everything Dinosaur commented:

“We are not certain about the future of the original Papo Stegosaurus figure.  It, for the moment is included in the latest 2019 collector’s booklet and the main Papo catalogue.  However, we note that earlier this year, Papo introduced a new colour variant Allosaurus model and this new figure has effectively replaced the original Allosaurus.  The first Allosaurus model to be made by Papo has been withdrawn from catalogues and company promotional materials.  If we receive news about the original Papo Stegosaurus we will make sure we post this information up onto our social media sites to help keep everybody informed.”

More Papo Models Coming Soon

The new colour variant Papo Stegosaurus is the third new figure to be introduced this year, it follows the brown running Tyrannosaurus rex and the new version of the Papo Allosaurus that was mentioned earlier.  There are still two figures to come, the eagerly awaited Papo Pentaceratops and the Papo Gorgosaurus, both figures are expected to be in stock at Everything Dinosaur soon.

A Customised CollectA Edaphosaurus

More pictures have been sent into Everything Dinosaur showing how a prehistoric animal model can be made into a truly unique piece.  Our thanks once again to model and figure collector Elizabeth who gave us access to some photographs of her recently customised CollectA Edaphosaurus model.  Having purchased the figure from Everything Dinosaur, the model was dispatched to professional model maker Martin Garratt for a custom makeover.  We think the results are awesome!

Commenting on her figure, collector Elizabeth stated:

“I love the way Martin [Martin Garratt] graded the colour on the tail.”

CollectA have stated that they intend to introduce more models of animals that lived during the Palaeozoic into their figure range.  The Edaphosaurus follows on from a beautifully crafted Dimetrodon figure that came out last year.  Thanks to Elizabeth’s photographs we can all appreciate the work that has gone into creating this stunning Edaphosaurus.

The New Limited-edition Papo Spinosaurus – Further Update

Limited-edition Papo Spinosaurus – Further Update

At Everything Dinosaur, we try our best to keep model collectors and fans of dinosaur figures up to date with developments in the industry.  One of the most eagerly anticipated dinosaur models in years, the limited-edition Papo Spinosaurus, has been subject to further delays and it is not likely to be in stock until October (October 2019).

Papo Spinosaurus in Stock October 2019

At a recent meeting with senior Papo team members, Everything Dinosaur pressed for an update on the new for 2019 prehistoric animal figures due to be added to the company’s “Les Dinosaures” range.  Prior to this most recent meeting, Everything Dinosaur had been informed that this figure was due to be launched in August/September.  We put out a release about this at the beginning of this month (June 2019), however, according to the latest information, the figure’s production and painting has been subject to further delays and this figure is not due to be released until October.

A spokesperson from Everything Dinosaur commented:

“We are working closely with Papo to ensure that production of these figures runs as smoothly as possible, Papo want to produce a truly spectacular dinosaur model and have been working hard to manage the production process.  As soon as we have further information about this eagerly anticipated prehistoric animal replica we will ensure that this information is posted up onto this blog and our various other social media platforms.”

Production Samples

During a very productive meeting with Papo, a number of important issues were discussed.  It is likely that the first production samples will be available late July, these will come straight from the factory and team members at Everything Dinosaur will be able to examine them and to post up further information and pictures.  At least that is the plan, but with a complicated large figure such as this Spinosaurus (it measures more than forty centimetres in length), some further delays could occur.

We are able to confirm that this figure will be provided in a special presentation box and the model will stand nearly seventeen centimetres tall (measuring the height of the sail).

Tale of the Tape the Papo Spinosaurus

The actual Papo Spinosaurus (S. aegyptiacus) measurements are:

length = 40.3 cm, width 10.5 cm and height (height of sail) 16.5 cm.

The new colour variant Papo Stegosaurus model is expected to arrive at the Everything Dinosaur warehouse very shortly, with the Pentaceratops and the Gorgosaurus models to follow later.

CollectA Caiuajara Gets a Special Makeover

CollectA Caiuajara Pterosaur Model Gets Customised

Our thanks to dinosaur and prehistoric animal model collector Elizabeth who sent into Everything Dinosaur some photographs of her recent CollectA pterosaur purchase that she has had customised by a professional model maker and artist.  The pterosaur figure is the recently introduced (spring 2019), CollectA Supreme Deluxe Caiuajara model.  This figure has been highly praised by collectors and fans of prehistoric animals, but when placed in the hands of a professional model maker this figure can be customised and elevated to a higher level.

Caiuajara Model Custom Painted

At Everything Dinosaur, we tend to get a lot of pictures of models that have been custom painted or altered by their owners in some way.  We marvel at how clever and creative these people are.    The CollectA Deluxe Caiuajara figure is very impressive, but the professional model maker (Martin Garratt),  has created a truly unique piece, one that would not be out of place in a museum collection.  Our congratulations to Martin for his excellent work and our thanks to Elizabeth for sharing images of the commission.

Colour Vision and Feathers

Recent research has suggested that members of the Pterosauria may have been feathered in a similar way as dinosaurs.  There is growing evidence to indicate that the common ancestor of the dinosaurs and pterosaurs may have evolved a coat of simple feathers to help this active animal keep warm.

To read an article outlining the latest evidence that supports the idea that feathers first evolved in the Early Triassic: Feathers Came First Then Birds Evolved.

A Pterosaur Starting Point

When it comes to customising a figure or model, it is very important to work with a highly accurate and well-made model in the first place.  If the figure has approximately the right proportions and has an intriguing pose that is anatomically accurate, then this permits the model maker the opportunity to really enhance the figure to create something truly unique.

Standing around twenty-four centimetres high, the CollectA Deluxe Caiuajara is quite sizeable and it has provided the model maker with lots of scope to really bring out the model’s features.  Martin’s choice of colour scheme is very effective and the use of starkly contrasting colours highlights that colour was most important to these flying reptiles and supports the idea that these active animals had colour vision.

The Model Maker has chosen a Vivid Colour Palette and Used a High Gloss Wash to Bring out Details

Exciting Mojo Fun Prehistoric Mammals

By |2023-12-24T20:31:39+00:00June 3rd, 2019|Adobe CS5, Dinosaur Fans, Everything Dinosaur Products, Main Page, Photos of Everything Dinosaur Products|0 Comments

Mojo Fun Prehistoric Mammals

The excellent “Prehistoric & Extinct” model range (Mojo Fun), contains a lot of dinosaur figures but today, we focus on a couple of prehistoric mammal models.  We have praised this model range before, congratulating the company for producing figures of recently extinct creatures such as the Quagga of southern Africa and the Tasmanian Tiger (Thylacine).  The range includes a number of other prehistoric mammals, replicas of some creatures that became extinct millions of years ago and not just within the last 150 years or so as in the case of the Thylacine and the Quagga.

The picture (above), depicts the fearsome Hyaenodon gigas one of the largest members of the Hyaenodontidae family (foreground).  Some fossil specimens indicate that this cursorial mammal could have weighed as much as 500 kilograms.   The large, elephant-like animal in the background is a Deinotherium, a very popular Mojo Fun prehistoric animal figure amongst collectors, after all, not that many replicas of “gigantic, terrible beast” have been produced.

Wide Temporal and Geographical Ranges

Mojo Fun have taken great care in the creation of their promotional image.  A spokesperson from Everything Dinosaur commented:

“It is always a pleasure to post up images depicting prehistoric animal models from the various ranges that we support.   We have some more images kindly supplied by Mojo Fun of some of their new for 2019 prehistoric animals, we are looking forward to posting up these images to, when the figures come into stock.”

Fossils of both Hyaenodon and Deinotherium genera have a wide geographical and temporal distribution.  H. gigas is known from the Lower Oligocene of south-eastern Mongolia, so it lived long before the first members of the Deinotheriidae evolved and certainly before the first members of this elephant family left Africa and became more widespread.  However, as the Deinotherium genus is believed to have existed from the Miocene to the Pliocene Epoch and as some hyaenodonts persisted until the Late Miocene, it is possible that species of Deinotherium would have been contemporaneous with some of the last members of the Hyaenodontidae.

An interaction between a member of the Deinotheriidae and a carnivorous hyaenodont could have taken place.

Examining a Jaw Fragment from a Dimetrodon

Examining a Jaw Fragment from a Dimetrodon

Team members at Everything Dinosaur had the opportunity to examine a jaw fragment from a Dimetrodon whilst on a visit to the National Museum (Cardiff).  This fossil, from a genus not associated with the British Isles, was part of an exhibit highlighting different types of reptile that existed prior to the evolution of the first dinosaurs.  Although, many museums around the world have extensive Dimetrodon fossil collections, it was pleasing to be able to have a really good look at the piece of jaw bone up close.

Examining Dimetrodon

The teeth sockets can be identified and although the bone has some rather ominous looking cracks, two of the teeth have been preserved in situ.  We suspect that this is a piece from the dentary (lower jaw), Everything Dinosaur staff were unable to identify the Dimetrodon species from this fossil.  Unfortunately, the accompanying information panel did not provide details of where the fossil was found or which Dimetrodon species it had been assigned to.

Dimetrodon not a Dinosaur but Everything Dinosaur Likes to Feature this Pelycosaur

When posting up images of prehistoric animals like Dimetrodon on social media platforms such as Pinterest or Instagram, Everything Dinosaur is sometimes challenged and asked why a company so associated with the Dinosauria should post up images of a creature that was not closely related to dinosaurs?  However, as we provide such as wide variety of prehistoric animal models and figures, there is bound to be a bit of overspill out of the Dinosauria and into other tetrapods, indeed, we also supply models of plants, various extinct mammals and of course, plenty of Palaeozoic critters too!

Update on the Limited-edition Papo Spinosaurus

By |2023-12-24T20:23:22+00:00June 1st, 2019|Adobe CS5, Dinosaur Fans, Everything Dinosaur News and Updates, Everything Dinosaur Products, Main Page, Photos of Everything Dinosaur Products|1 Comment

Update on the Limited-edition Papo Spinosaurus

The limited-edition Papo Spinosaurus model has been delayed and the original launch date for this eagerly awaited dinosaur figure has been put back with a release date now estimated at August/September.  Everything Dinosaur remains heavily committed to this figure and by delaying this figure by a few weeks, this does permit both Papo and ourselves to ensure a successful roll out of other new for 2019 Papo models such as the Gorgosaurus, the new colour variant Stegosaurus and the Pentaceratops model.

Latest news:  Now likely to be in stock in October.

Papo Spinosaurus Figure Delayed

Technical Issues

Technical issues have been cited as the reason for the delay.  With such an eagerly anticipated dinosaur figure, we are confident that design team at Papo and the production staff would be wanting to create the very best, most detailed model possible and therefore it may be sensible to take a little longer with the production process and the design of the special box that this figure will be presented in.

Everything Dinosaur team members have been involved in detailed discussions concerning the boxing of this figure.  As a business, we are trying to cut down on single use cardboard as part of our environmental policy, aiming to maintain our excellent record when it comes to recycling cardboard and paper.  However, a spokesperson from Papo’s senior management commented that the gift box “really highlights the premium value of this limited-edition item” and added that “it’s also a good protection against shocks during the shipment.”

Same Papo Spinosaurus Model – New Delivery Date

Team members at Everything Dinosaur are hopeful that the first production samples will be ready for inspection in late July.  The expected delivery of models ready for sale to the wider public should be August/September, if Everything Dinosaur receives further information and updates, these will be published on this blogsite as well as on the company’s various social media platforms.

A spokesperson from Everything Dinosaur stated:

“All those people who are on Everything Dinosaur’s priority reserve list will still be offered a model, nothing has changed for them in terms of being guaranteed the chance to purchase this limited edition figure.”

The spokesperson went onto add:

“We have a meeting with Papo in a couple of weeks’ time, we hope to receive further information and if there is any additional news regarding this model or indeed any of the other new for 2019 figures such as the Papo Pentaceratops, the Gorgosaurus or the new colour variant Stegosaurus, we shall be sure to pass this information onto our customers”.

Rebor Oddities Tyrannosaurus and Velociraptor Foetus Replicas

Everything Dinosaur will be stocking the pair of Rebor Oddities dinosaur foetus replicas (Tyrannosaurus and Velociraptor).  These highly unusual dinosaur figures are expected to arrive in stock at Everything Dinosaur’s warehouse in July and today, the UK-based mail-order company has formally announced that it will be stocking them.

Rebor Foetuses – Wet Specimens

Ever since Michael Crichton’s highly influential novel “Jurassic Park” was first published (1990), subsequently made into a film three years later, fans of dinosaurs have been trying to get hold of replicas of pre-hatched dinosaurs as envisaged by the scientists at the bioengineering company InGen run by industrialist and billionaire John Hammond.  The clever design team at Rebor have come up with their own take on this concept, portraying the foetuses of two iconic Late Cretaceous theropods Velociraptor and a representative of the Tyrannosaurus genus.

Each skilfully crafted model is displayed in its own storage jar.  The purchaser can add water to represent the fluid in which the specimen would have been kept in.  Both models reflect what is known about dinosaur embryos and show distal growth, although neither Velociraptor or any member of the Tyrannosaurus genus is represented in the fossil record by material representing a pre-hatched or recently hatched individual.

Priority Reservation Lists are Open

Priority reservation lists have been opened for both of these new Rebor Oddities replicas.  Dinosaur fans who had already requested to join the Rebor Dilophosaurus model reserve list “Green Day” and “Oasis”, that are due to be introduced prior to these two foetus models, have already been offered the chance to join Everything Dinosaur’s priority reserve lists.

A spokesperson for the company commented:

“These two foetus replicas from Rebor are likely to sell out fast, so we thought it fair to offer the chance to join our VIP reserve list for these two models, to those collectors who had already contacted us about the new Rebor Dilophosaurus dinosaur replicas.”

Tale of the Tape – Rebor Oddities

The Rebor Oddities range provides collectors with the opportunity to acquire more unusual prehistoric animal figures and replicas.  These types of models tend to sell out quickly and can rapidly become difficult to obtain.  Everything Dinosaur will be bringing into stock a limited number of these new Rebor Oddities.  As for their sizes, the Tyrannosaurus figure is slightly larger than the Velociraptor replica, a probable true reflection on the size of these dinosaur embryos from back in the Late Cretaceous.

  • Rebor Oddities Tyrannosaurus foetus replica measuring  22.5 cm x 9 cm from the top of the jar to the base.
  • Rebor Oddities Velociraptor foetus replica measuring 18 cm x 7. 5 cm from the top of the jar to the base.

These figures are likely to be highly sought after, demand for them could outstrip supply and at the moment, based on current estimates, a July delivery date at Everything Dinosaur’s warehouse is forecast.
