The Everything Dinosaur Newsletter

The brand Wild Past has only recently been launched, but the first of the models in this exciting range is already in stock at Everything Dinosaur, but be warned, the 1:35 scale Protoceratops andrewsi complete with a nest of dinosaur eggs has had a very limited production run, so stock of this particular member of the Protoceratopsidae is likely to sell out fast.

The Return of Rebor Replicas

Good news for fans of Rebor replicas.  Although the extended Chinese New Year led to disruption in international delivery networks, Everything Dinosaur had been able to arrange the shipment of the popular Rebor “Raptor” replica called “Sweeney” and the 1:6 scale Compsognathus model “Sentry”.  Newsletter readers were the first to receive an update letting them know that both these Rebor figures were once again available.

In addition, the Rebor Oddities Velociraptor foetus wet specimen with light up base is also available.  This fascinating model of an embryonic dinosaur was first introduced in the late summer of last year.  Standing around 22 centimetres high, the figure makes a striking centrepiece to any prehistoric animal model collection.  Joining the Velociraptor is the CollectA Deluxe 1:20 scale Elasmotherium, this replica too is also now available.

Mojo Fun New for 2020 Prehistoric Animal Models Delayed

By |2024-01-18T07:36:43+00:00March 5th, 2020|Categories: Adobe CS5, Dinosaur Fans, Everything Dinosaur News and Updates, Everything Dinosaur Products, Main Page, Photos of Everything Dinosaur Products, Press Releases|2 Comments

New for 2020 Mojo Fun Prehistoric Animal Models Delayed Until at Least June 2020

The impact of the COVID-19 (coronavirus) and the disruption to the Chinese economy is beginning to affect production plans and proposed delivery schedules for new for 2020 prehistoric animal models.  In Everything Dinosaur’s statement released earlier this week, we explained that this virus outbreak has global implications that will affect producers, retailers and importers across a vast spectrum of goods, not only goods sourced from Asia.  Our statement also conveyed our thoughts and sympathies to all those people affected by COVID-19.  Our full statement of earlier this week can be found here: Everything Dinosaur COVID-19 Information.

New Mojo Fun Prehistoric Animal Models Delayed

As part of our own plans to help mitigate the impact of the virus, we have been working closely with our distribution chain partners and we can now confirm that the eagerly awaited new for 2020 Mojo Fun prehistoric animal models are likely to be delayed until at least June 2020.  Further delays cannot be ruled out at this stage.

Mojo Fun Prehistoric Animal Models

There are plans to introduce more than ten new dinosaur models along with colour variants of existing models.  However, the outbreak of COVID-19 has curtailed the original plans to have these figures available in March 2020.  The latest information received by Everything Dinosaur suggests that the new for 2020 prehistoric animals are likely to be delayed until at least June 2020.  The new Tyrannosaurus rex Deluxe model with an articulated jaw (seen on the right of the picture above), is one of the new figures affected.

The Mojo Fun Brontosaurus Deluxe model, regarded as an impressive sauropod replica by those lucky enough to have had the chance to view the prototype and pre-production samples, is also affected.  This twenty-three centimetre long Brontosaurus had been expected in early March but it is not likely to be available now until the early summer.

Everything Dinosaur Comments

A spokesperson from Everything Dinosaur commented:

“We are grateful to Mojo Fun for their swift action.  By informing Everything Dinosaur we can build in contingency plans to help to bring in new models from this range as quickly as possible.  This is a fast moving story, we will do all we can to keep our customers informed about new model availability.  Fortunately, we have managed to build up buffer stocks of the popular Mojo Fun prehistoric and extinct model range and we should be able to support sales of existing models for some time to come.”

COVID-19 (Coronavirus) Important Information

By |2024-01-18T07:01:02+00:00March 2nd, 2020|Categories: Everything Dinosaur News and Updates, Main Page, Press Releases|0 Comments

COVID-19 (Coronavirus) Information from Everything Dinosaur

The continuing spread of COVID-19 (coronavirus) in recent weeks has caused concern across our planet.  In view of this widespread anxiety and in response to a number of emails and other enquiries received, Everything Dinosaur has issued the following statement.

The COVID-19 (Coronavirus) outbreak and its continuing spread has global implications and affects producers, retailers and importers across a vast spectrum of goods and services, not just from China and other parts of Asia.  It is extremely serious for those involved and we would like to convey our thoughts and sympathies to all those people who have been affected by this virus.

New Models Coming into Stock at Everything Dinosaur

We are aware that production plans and schedules for a number of new for 2020 prehistoric animals and figures that were due to come into Everything Dinosaur have already been interrupted.  Delays in manufacture and subsequent shipping are an inevitable consequence of the current global situation.  Our team members remain in constant dialogue with our supply partners, a dialogue that commenced several weeks ago, as part of our forward planning and our objective to mitigate the impact of the outbreak and spread of COVID-19 on our business.

As soon as we have definite information with regards to the expected arrival of new for 2020 models, then we shall share this by publishing such information on our social media platforms.  However, at this stage it is still too early to tell what the effects of the virus might be but we remain optimistic that all reasonable measures are in place to minimise disruption.

Existing Stock of Dinosaur and Prehistoric Animal Models

With regards to stock of existing models, Everything Dinosaur has built up a substantial inventory as part of its plans to take all reasonable measures to minimise the consequences of this outbreak.  Stock levels were built up towards the end of 2019 and in January 2020 in part, as a precaution against any problems that might have emerged in the global logistics chain.

We remain confident that we have enough inventory to support the needs of our customer base.  Although, some disruption to postal and other delivery systems may occur, which may result in some delay in receipt of orders. Our team members are doing all they can to maintain our excellent record of swift dispatch and we are liaising with our postal and courier partners to assess what is, understandably, a fluid situation.

We are committed to continuing our award-winning business as usual, the recent Feefo accolade of the “Platinum Trusted Service Award”, the highest award possible from this independent rating company, demonstrates that Everything Dinosaur does all it can to support its customers.

Can I Catch COVID-19 from a Parcel or the Contents of a Parcel?

At Everything Dinosaur, we have received a number of queries concerning whether it is safe to receive a parcel which might contain an item that was originally manufactured in Asia.  It is important to point out, that as Everything Dinosaur has built up extensive stocks, the vast majority of items in our inventory were manufactured and moved out of Asia long before the virus outbreak occurred.

The World Health Organisation (WHO), has issued guidance in regard to the receipt of parcels from China, we would suggest that the advice relating to the parcel itself would also apply to the contents of this parcel, in this case a prehistoric animal figure or replica.

The WHO states that it is safe to receive packages, you are not at risk of contracting COVID-19 (coronavirus).  From previous analysis, coronaviruses do not survive long on objects such as packages, nor do they survive long on other surfaces such as the surfaces of our products.

Yes, It is Safe to Receive Items from China

Is is safe to receive a item from China?
It is safe to receive a prehistoric animal model from Everything Dinosaur – the virus does not survive long on surfaces.

We will issue an update if and when the situation substantively changes.

Thank you.

Everything Dinosaur will be Stocking the Wild Past Protoceratops Dinosaur Model

A New 1:35 Scale Replica of Protoceratops andrewsi

The carefully crafted Protoceratops replica is the first model to be introduced in the Wild Past range, this is quite appropriate as the genus name translates from the Greek as “first horn face”.  Two species are placed within this genus, Protoceratops andrewsi, which was named and described in back in 1923 and the larger Protoceratops hellenikorhinus, known from the Bayan Mandahu Formation of Inner Mongolia (China), which was named and described in 2001.

Arguably, Protoceratops is one of the most important dinosaurs ever discovered.  Hundreds of fossil specimens have been found ranging in size from embryos to fully mature and elderly adults.  In some sites, Protoceratops andrewsi fossil material represents around three-quarters of all the vertebrate fossil material associated with that location.

When American palaeontologists William King Gregory and Walter Granger (American Museum of Natural History, New York), produced the first scientific description (1923), they commented on the remarkable number of fossils found, including complete skulls representing small juveniles to large adults.  Some of these skulls depicting the growth stages of Protoceratops were put on display at the Museum and as far as Everything Dinosaur team members are aware, the exhibit is still there.

New Papo Prehistoric Animal Models Shine at Toy Fair

Papo Prehistoric Animal Models Shine at Toy Fair

An eagle-eyed Everything Dinosaur team member spotted a photograph showcasing some of the Papo prehistoric animal models at the recent Nuremberg Spielwarenmesse in Germany.  The Toy Fair organisers had taken pictures of various product displays at the exhibition over the course of a few days and some of the Papo prehistoric animals had obviously caught the eye of the trade show photographer.

A spokesperson from Everything Dinosaur commented:

“With thousands of Papo models in our warehouse, our team members get to see Papo prehistoric animal models every day.  However, for a photographer at a huge exhibition such as the Nuremberg Spielwarenmesse, which is, we believe to be the largest toy fair in Europe, they may not have been all that aware of the Papo range.  Having come across the Papo trade stand, the photogenic qualities of the models and figures, attracted a lot of attention and hence the resulting photograph came about.”

The award-winning Everything Dinosaur website: Everything Dinosaur.

The four Papo figures certainly look impressive and whilst at the event, Everything Dinosaur took the opportunity to take some photographs of their own, focusing on the new for 2020 Papo prehistoric animal models such as the magnificent Megaloceros figure.

New Papo Prehistoric Animal Model Measurements (Part 2)

New Papo Prehistoric Animal Model Measurements (Part 2)

Everything Dinosaur recently published the official measurements for two of the brand new prehistoric animal models from Papo.  Today, we conclude our blog posts in relation to the measurement of the brand new Papo prehistoric animal figures and our comments on scaling these models by publishing the official measurements for the Papo Stygimoloch dinosaur model and the Papo Megaloceros.

Papo Prehistoric Animal Figures

Whilst Papo may not produce scale models of prehistoric animals, we know how keen dinosaur fans and model collectors are for any guidance as to the approximate scale of a replica.  To this end we have put together this short blog posts that concludes our foray into this area.

To read Everything Dinosaur’s earlier post about the Papo Chilesaurus and the Papo Giganotosaurus dinosaur models: New Papo Prehistoric Animal Model Measurements (Part 1).

Papo Stygimoloch – Tale of the Tape

Everything Dinosaur has been informed that this new model stands around eight centimetres tall and that it is approximately seven centimetres in length.  Calculating the scale for this pachycephalosaur (bone-headed) dinosaur is a little tricky, as most palaeontologists believe the fossils ascribed to Stygimoloch (S. spirifer), actually represent, juvenile, immature specimens of Pachycephalosaurus wyomingensis.

Dracorex (D. hogwartsia) and Stygimoloch (S. spirifer) are regarded as “nomina dubia“, that is to say, that the validity of both these two genera are now in doubt.

The Dracorex and Stygimoloch Debate

The reasons for the uncertainty of the Dracorex and Stygimoloch taxa can be summarised as follows:

  • In 2007, at the annual meeting of the Society of Vertebrate Paleontology (SVP), palaeontologist John R. Horner (Jack Horner), presented evidence that the holotype Dracorex specimen might represent Stygimoloch.  He further proposed that Dracorex and Stygimoloch represented juvenile or possible female P. wyomingensis specimens.
  • In 2009, Horner in collaboration with Mark Goodwin, published further evidence suggesting that the cranial spikes and bumps on the skulls of these three dinosaurs showed considerable variation but within a range expected for a single species.  In addition, they concluded that whilst P. wyomingensis was known from adult specimens, both Dracorex and Stygimoloch fossil material represent juveniles.  As all three “species” are known from the Hell Creek Formation, then all the pachycephalosaur fossils could be associated with a single genus.  As these types of dinosaurs grew and matured they lost their spikes and developed thick, dome-shaped skulls.
  •  More recently, other scientific papers have been published that conclude that the so-called “unique” characteristics of Stygimoloch and Dracorex are morphologically consistent traits that would be expected if a Pachycephalosaurus growth curve was plotted.

Calculating the Scale for the Papo Stygimoloch Model

If it is proposed that Stygimoloch represents a juvenile specimen of Pachycephalosaurus wyomingensis, then what growth stage does this model represent?  If we assume that the Papo figure represents a half-grown animal, then we can speculate that the body length would be around two to three metres.  Based on these assumptions, a model that is seven centimetres long would be in scale 1:28.5 for a two-metre-long animal or approximately 1:42 scale for a three-metre-long animal.

Papo Megaloceros Model – Tale of the Tape

The Papo Megaloceros model is the only non-dinosaur figure to be introduced by Papo in 2020.  The information received by Everything Dinosaur indicates that this figure will measure some 16 centimetres in length, stand around 6 cm high at the shoulders with an overall height of 13.5 cm.  When all the new Papo figures are in stock, Everything Dinosaur team members will carefully measure each model and publish the details in the “additional information” section of the relevant product pages.

If it is assumed that this figure represents an example of the largest species of Megaloceros (M. giganteus), then with the type species having an estimated body length of 3.2 metres this figure could be in 1:20 scale.

Delays in Production due to the COVID-19 Outbreak

As Papo’s production is based in China, the company is currently experiencing difficulties scheduling manufacturing due to the continuing COVID-19 (Coronavirus) outbreak.  Everything Dinosaur will keep social media followers and our blog readers informed of developments and when more information becomes available regarding the availability of these models, we will publish it.

Official Measurements for the Papo Chilesaurus and the Papo Giganotosaurus Models

Everything Dinosaur has published details of the official measurements for the four, brand new prehistoric animal figures expected later in the year from Papo.  In today’s blog post, we will provide information on the Chilesaurus and Giganotosaurus figures, a second post will follow which will provide measurement details of the other new dinosaur replica (Stygimoloch) as well as the eagerly anticipated Papo Megaloceros.

Papo Prehistoric Animal Model Measurements

Although Papo does not produce scale models, our team members have provided an approximation of scale for each of these figures in order to assist dinosaur fans and collectors with their prehistoric animal collections.

The official measurements for the Giganotosaurus model are length eighteen centimetres, with an overall height of twenty centimetres.  The unorthodox pose of this figure makes an assessment of scale quite a challenge for this particular model.  However, if we apply the Pythagoras theorem which states that the square of the length of the hypotenuse is equal to the sum of squares of the lengths of other two sides of a right-angled triangle, (a² + b² = c²), we can approximate the length of the head, body and tail if the model was put in a more anatomically correct pose.

By drawing a right-angled triangle over the body plan of the figure, an approximation for the length of the head, body and the tail can be calculated.

Team members calculated the length of the hypotenuse to be approximately 27 cm, which, when compared to the estimated length of the adult dinosaur at around 13.2 metres, equates to a 1:48 scale figure.

Production Delays due to COVID-19 Outbreak

Due to the Coronavirus outbreak in China, there has been an unavoidable delay on the production of these new Papo models.  Everything Dinosaur will, of course, keep our blog readers and social media followers updated and provide further information as and when we receive it.

A spokesperson from Everything Dinosaur commented:

“Whilst there is a lot of uncertainty with regards to the production of the new models and figures, Everything Dinosaur has built up considerable stock of Papo models and we are confident that the vast majority of the Papo figures, including some quite rare and retired replicas will still be available from us for a considerable time to come.  If a model should be temporarily unavailable, customers always have the option to join a waitlist.  As and when we receive updates on Papo prehistoric animal production, we will provide this information to our social media followers and blog post readers.”
