A Video Review of the Wild Safari Dinosaurs Pachyrhinosaurus Dinosaur Model

With the recent introduction of the Pachyrhinosaurus dinosaur model into the Wild Safari Dinosaurs model range made by Safari Ltd, Everything Dinosaur team members took the opportunity to make a brief (4:16 minute) video review of this replica.

This is a really well made dinosaur model, one that we think represents the first of the three currently recognised pachyrhinosaur species to be described (Pachyrhinosaurus canadensis).  The various bony processes around the skull have been particularly well depicted by Safari Ltd and we were careful to ensure that we included plenty of close ups of the head of this horned dinosaur in our video review.

A spokesperson from the UK-based Everything Dinosaur commented that they were delighted with the new for 2014 Wild Safari Prehistoric World models and they added:

“We enjoyed making a short video review of the Wild Safari Prehistoric World Pachyrhinosaurus dinosaur model.”

The New Wild Safari Dinos Suchomimus Dinosaur Model Reviewed

Suchomimus Dinosaur Model – A Video Review

With the first of the 2014 stock safely tucked away in the Everything Dinosaur warehouse, it is time to get the camcorder out and to make video reviews of the new prehistoric animal models from Safari Ltd.  The first video requested was one for the spinosaurid known as Suchomimus (S. tenerensis) so we have obliged by shooting this brief (6:28) review.

Reviewing a Theropod Dinosaur

In this short review, we highlight the anatomical details that can be seen on this model that reflect the known fossil material.  Intriguingly, when this dinosaur was first named and described (1998), it was the only known large theropod from the Elrhaz Formation of Niger.  However, fossils of at least two other huge, predatory dinosaurs have not been found which most probably co-existed with Suchomimus in the verdant, coastal habitat that this dinosaur called home.  Although the names of these two theropods are not given in the video, for completeness we have provided the information here.

The first of these theropods is the abelisaurid known as Kryptops (K. palaios).  Although, known from only fragmentary remains, this dinosaur is believed to one of the basal members of the abelisaur group and measuring in excess of seven metres in length it was a formidable predator.

The second super-sized carnivorous dinosaur from this part of Niger and a contemporary of the spinosaurids that roamed this region is Eocarcharia (Eocarcharia dinops).  Although only known from a fossilised partial, left maxilla and other elements from the skull, this theropod as been assigned to the carcharodontosaurids and it is believed to have been at least nine metres in length.

Elrhaz Formation

Precise dating of the sediments that make up the Elrhaz Formation is difficult, but it is likely that a number of large, carnivorous dinosaurs co-existed alongside the likes of Suchomimus.  If this is the case, then it makes sense for the spinosaurids such as S. tenerensis to have specialised in hunting and eating different types of prey.  In the case of Suchomimus, it was probably a specialist at catching fish (piscivore).

Stormy Weather at Lyme Regis

By |2023-03-10T08:09:13+00:00February 13th, 2014|Categories: Everything Dinosaur videos, Geology|0 Comments

Violent Storms Continue to Batter the UK’s South Coast

Much of England and south Wales continues to get a battering from severe winter storms.  We have been somewhat sheltered at Everything Dinosaur, although our warehouse was rocking a bit last night as 80 mph (128 kmh) winds buffeted the building.  Elsewhere in the UK, especially on exposed coasts, the sea conditions remain extremely hazardous.

Lyme Regis

The Environmental Agency has been stressing the need for walkers and visitors to the coast to stay away from cliffs and other areas where landslips may occur.  Our advice to anyone considering going out on a fossil hunt over the next few days is to postpone it, the beaches and cliffs are just too dangerous.

Our chum Brandon sent us a short video, documenting some of the damage that the stormy weather has caused to properties and boats on Monmouth Beach.  We have received a lot of reports from various fossil collectors and rock hounds from around the UK over the last few weeks.  The high rainfall levels, the storms, severe gales and flooding are the worst in living memory.  Some parts of the coast will be unrecognisable by the time the bad weather subsides and experts can assess the full extent of the damage.

Best to stay away from the cliffs and beaches for the time being.

Schleich New Dinosaur Models Captured on Video

Team members at Everything Dinosaur were given special permission to make a short video that shows the four new dinosaur models being introduced by Schleich this year.  We have already posted up pictures of the new Velociraptor, the Tyrannosaurus rex, the brightly painted Schleich Pentaceratops (our favourite) and the long-clawed and fearsome looking Therizinosaurus.  These models are currently in production and they will be available from Everything Dinosaur in May of this year.

All these models are not to scale and they are going into the Schleich “World of History” dinosaur model range, that brings this particular series up to a total of sixteen replicas.

The Therizinosaurus will have moveable front limbs, as will (we think), the Velociraptor.  The T. rex and the Velociraptor will also have articulated jaws.

A spokesperson from Everything Dinosaur commented:

“These four new models represent a 25% increase in the larger-sized prehistoric animal replicas offered by this German manufacturer.  It is pleasing to see investment being made in the design and production of new dinosaur models.”

The current Schleich “World of History” range already features a Tyrannosaurus rex and a Velociraptor, the new T. rex and the bright green Schleich Velociraptor figure, which should be available from Everything Dinosaur in May, are not replacements but they are designed to complement the existing model range.

Young Matthew Comments on the Dangers of Fossil Collecting at Lyme Regis

An enthusiastic fossil collector called Matthew and the grown ups with him made a short video highlighting the danger of land slides and mudslips around the Dorset coast.  The video was shot on the west beach at Lyme Regis and it nicely demonstrates how unstable the cliffs are in the area.

Matthew’s Safety Video – Lyme Regis Cliffs

Video credit: Brandon Lennon

Dangerous Cliffs at Lyme Regis

Matthew points out just how dangerous the cliffs at Lyme Regis and elsewhere on the “Jurassic Coast” can be.  Landslides and mudslips can happen at any time and without warning.  If walking around the cliffs we urge everyone to heed any warning signs posted and to keep away from the edge.  As for the beaches themselves, it is best to avoid getting too close to the cliffs, rocks and boulders can travel quite far down the beach from any rock fall so it is essential to keep your distance.  Advice from the locals is well worth taking too.

We are grateful to Brandon Lennon for sending us this video.  For those keen on a bit of fossil hunting in the Lyme Regis area, we at Everything Dinosaur strongly recommend that you take advantage of one of the regular fossil hunting walks organised by experienced professionals who know the cliffs and tides well.

For further information on organised fossil walks on the Dorset coast: Lyme Regis Fossil Walks.

It’s a great video Matthew, you make a great health and safety spokesperson and we hope you enjoyed your trip to the beach.

Half a Million Views on Everything Dinosaur’s Youtube Channel

A few days ago we were notified that Everything Dinosaur’s video views had gone through the half a million mark.  A big thank you to everyone who has watched our model reviews and other prehistoric animal inspired videos. Our small team of dedicated dinosaur enthusiasts work really hard when it comes to our social media output and yes, we do respond to all those comments, questions and such like which require a reply.  Back in September we reviewed our progress to date in terms of YouTube video views.  We had originally aimed for about 300,000 video views by the end of this year, but this target had already been exceeded by May.

To read the September update on Everything Dinosaur’s social media activities: September’s update on Everything Dinosaur’s social media activities.

We are really excited and chuffed to have reached this landmark and we shall continue to make prehistoric animal model reviews and other videos, especially for our many, many channel subscribers.

A very big thank you to everyone who has watched our videos, we did set a target of 600,000 video views earlier this year and given the number of daily views on our channel it is very likely that we hit this target and go slightly beyond it by the end of this month.

Everything Dinosaur’s YouTube Channel

The majority of our videos are short (five minute) reviews of prehistoric animal models.  In these reviews we discuss the replica in detail and point out how it reflects the known fossil material.  One of our most popular videos is this brief review of the Schleich World of History T. rex model, like many of our videos it has had tens of thousands of video views.  We may be a small, UK-based supplier of dinosaur models toys and games, but our passion for dinosaurs and palaeontology has enabled us to make these short video reviews and they do seem to be very popular – which is fine by all of us.

Wild Safari Dinos (Safari Ltd) Elasmosaurus Reviewed

It is always exciting to see a member of the Plesiosauria included in a model manufacturer’s range and this year, Safari Ltd added a detailed replica of the long-necked plesiosaur known as Elasmosaurus to their Wild Safari Dinos model range.  Team members at Everything Dinosaur have produced a short video review of this excellent marine reptile replica.

The length of this video is approximately 5 minutes and forty seconds.  We look at the model in detail, comment on the skin texture, the detailing around the mouth, teeth and skull and assess the colours chosen by the artists at Safari Ltd to depict this Late Cretaceous marine reptile.

Cretaceous Marine Reptile Reviewed

The name Elasmosaurus means “plate lizard”, a reference to the substantial, plate-like shoulder bones that covered this animal’s chest and formed the arm sockets.  These “plates” anchored the huge muscles of the front limbs that helped to power this large animal through the water.

Everything Dinosaur Reviews the Wild Safari Dinos Dimorphodon Pterosaur Figure

The latest video created by Everything Dinosaur team members has been completed.  It is a review of the Dimorphodon model which is part of the Wild Safari Dinos and Prehistoric Life model series made by Safari Ltd.  This model was introduced in 2013 and it is always a pleasure to see a new pterosaur replica in a mainstream model range.

In this six minute video review, we look at the Dimorphodon model and discuss features such as the large head, the different shaped teeth seen in the jaws and the curved claws on the hands and feet.  We then reflect on what the known fossil data tells us about Dimorphodon and explain how the model relates to the fossil material.

Everything Dinosaur Reviews the New Wild Safari Dinos Gryposaurus Dinosaur Model

By |2024-05-01T14:53:41+01:00September 9th, 2013|Categories: Everything Dinosaur videos, Product Reviews|0 Comments

A Video Review of Gryposaurus

“Hook-nosed lizard”, for that is what the genus name of Gryposaurus means, has had a video review created.  Team members at Everything Dinosaur try to research, write and shoot a video for all the new model releases by manufacturers such as Safari Ltd.  With a number of new models for 2013, the team have been kept busy, but we have finished our review of the Wild Safari Dinos Gryposaurus dinosaur model.  We still refer to this Late Cretaceous dinosaur as a hadrosaur, although to avoid confusion with the duck-billed dinosaur genus of Hadrosaurus we know that we should refer to the group of duck-bills that includes Gryposaurus as the Saurolophinae, but we suppose old habits die hard.

Wild Safari Dinos Gryposaurus

In this short (six minute) video review we discuss the replica, its colouration and the details on the figure that show that the design team as Safari Ltd have really studied the known fossil material carefully.

Everything Dinosaur’s Video Review of Gryposaurus

It really is a great model and we love the colouration, a sort of dusky blue that works really well.  This dinosaur has also got blue eyes, an eye colour not usually found when it comes to replicas of the Dinosauria.

Papo Dimetrodon – A Video Review

By |2023-02-22T07:38:45+00:00August 20th, 2013|Categories: Everything Dinosaur Products, Everything Dinosaur videos, Product Reviews|3 Comments

Everything Dinosaur Reviews the Papo Dimetrodon Model

The last of the 2013 model releases in Papo’s prehistoric animal range of replicas is the Dimetrodon.  It has been worth the wait, as this is a wonderful model of this Permian predator.  Dimetrodon may have existed long before the Dinosauria evolved, but for some reason this sail-backed reptile is synonymous with dinosaur model collections.

Papo Dimetrodon Model

Papo, as a French company refer to their range of prehistoric animal replicas as “Les Dinosaures”, this can be a little confusing as it now includes a mammal-like reptile, one that is only very distantly related to that part of the reptile family tree that gave rise to the dinosaurs.

Team members at Everything Dinosaur have made a short video review of the model.  In this video, it lasts around 5 minutes, we look at the model in detail, highlight some features and discuss fossil evidence that relates to the Dimetrodon genera.

Papo Prehistoric Animal Figures

Earlier in the year, Papo added a Carnotaurus and a Woolly Rhino model replica to their prehistoric animal model range.  Only one of the models introduced this year is actually a dinosaur.  It is good to see the design team at Papo working on a variety of prehistoric creatures.  We know that plans are progressing well with regards to new model introductions for 2014, from the reviews we have received so far for the 2013 models, Papo will have to work hard to maintain their high standards.
