Getting Excited About Paleo-Creatures

A Short Video of the Paleo-Creatures Replicas

Team members at Everything Dinosaur are getting very excited at the imminent arrival of the first of the Paleo-Creatures prehistoric animal models.  Stocks of Xenacanthus, Tullimonstrum (Tully’s monster) and Atopodentatus (A. unicus) et al,  will soon be filling our warehouse shelves and we can’t wait for the shipment to arrive.  Everything Dinosaur announced recently that they would be stocking the Paleo-Creatures line of high quality, polyurethane resin replicas.

Everything Dinosaur and Prehistoric Animal Replicas

The Paleo-Creatures range of hand-crafted, scale model prehistoric animals has been created by talented Spanish artist and designer Jesús Toledo.  He very kindly sent Everything Dinosaur a link to a short video showing the models that we had ordered laid out ready for packing before they were despatched to our warehouse.  In this short video (one minute forty-five seconds), viewers get the chance to see up close for themselves just how gorgeous these models are.

The picture above is from the short video that was sent to Everything Dinosaur.  The video shows some of the models lined up ready for packing prior to their despatch to our warehouse.   The model in the middle is the beautiful Paleo-Creatures Torvosaurus replica.  What a fantastic dinosaur model this is!  Just behind Torvosaurus some Paleo-Creatures Tullimonstrum (T. gregarium) can be seen.  Lining up in front of the fearsome Torvosaurus are some Kosmoceratops models, perhaps being just in front of a hungry Torvosaurus, especially a model with an articulated lower jaw, is quite a dangerous place for a horned dinosaur model to be.

The splendid Aegirocassis (anomalocaridids, also referred to as anomalocarids) are lined up ready to be packed, these are wonderful models of the giant Ordovician filter-feeder.  In the background, some of the Koolasuchus replicas are awaiting their turn to be packed.  They too, are very beautiful and highly detailed, hand-crafted models.

JurassicCollectables Reviews the New Rebor “Breeze”

By |2024-05-06T07:17:51+01:00August 2nd, 2016|Dinosaur Fans, Everything Dinosaur videos, Main Page|0 Comments

A Cute and Adorable Baby Utahraptor (Rebor Breeze)

JurassicCollectables have produced another video review, this time it is a brief review of the Rebor Scout series Utahraptor “Breeze” and it provides dinosaur fans with an opportunity to see for themselves how the Rebor Scout series is evolving.  The 1:35 scale Utahraptor figure has been introduced alongside “Stan” the 1:18 scale baby Velociraptor model by Rebor.  Some breaking news for fans of Rebor models, expect Everything Dinosaur to have in stock the limited edition Bronze-look raptors and the new Velociraptor figure “Winston” very shortly.

Rebor “Breeze” Video Review

Although, this video review focuses on “Breeze”, the adult Utahraptor – “Wind Hunter” figure by Rebor also features.  Also, look out for a regular appearance by “off-colour Alan”.

The Unboxing Video Review by Jurassic Collectables – “Breeze”

In the brief video, (it lasts a fraction under four minutes), the narrator guides the viewer through the details that can be seen on this carefully sculpted replica.  Described as “adorable”, the baby Utahraptor makes a fine addition to any dinosaur figure collection.  The paint job is described as “quite defined” and the wet, glossy look that the eyes have is highlighted.

JurassicCollectables have a wonderful YouTube channel packed full of dinosaur model reviews and other very informative videos.  They have just achieved 50, 000 subscribers, that’s a fantastic achievement, our congratulations to everyone at JurassicCollectables.

Rebor Utahraptor and Rebor “Breeze” Models

“Breeze” ties in with the wind motif of the Utahraptor range from Rebor, the adult replica is called “Wind Hunter”, a reflection on the fact that these predators were probably very fast runners.  How fast is difficult to determine, but speeds in excess of forty kilometres an hour have been suggested by some palaeontologists.

To see “Breeze” the Rebor Scout baby Utahraptor dinosaur model and the rest of the Rebor range at Everything Dinosaur: Rebor Prehistoric Animal Models and Figures.

In the JurassicCollectables video, the narrator explains the colour scheme on the figure and highlights the fine detail of the feathery coat.  Naturally, these “raptors” could not fly but the feathers probably had a dual role.  In youngsters such as “Breeze” the feathery coat provided insulation, mature adults (such as the Rebor “Wind Hunter”), probably used their feathers, especially the tail feathers and any long quills on the arms, for display and signalling.

JurassicCollectables Reviews the New Rebor Bad Company Set

Rebor Bad Company Model Set Reviewed (Compsognathus)

Time to catch up with the YouTube channel of JurassicCollectables, a great video channel showcasing the very best in prehistoric animal replicas and other items for collectors.  Take for example, their latest Rebor video, a brief review of the highly sought after Rebor Bad Company set of four Compsognathus figures.  This video gives dinosaur model fans the opportunity to peruse this model set prior to purchasing.

Rebor Bad Company Set Reviewed

Check out the YouTube channel of Jurassic Collectables here: JurassicCollectables on YouTube , it’s well worth a look and don’t forget to subscribe to the JurassicCollectables channel.

A Video Review

In this excellent video review, the narrator looks at the four models in turn and then reflects on how Rebor have been keen to make models similar to the Compsognathus dinosaurs from the second “Jurassic Park” movie – the “Lost World”.  As a spokesperson for JurassicCollectables stated on the company’s Facebook page: “you wouldn’t want to get lost in the forest with these guys around.”  The pack hunting habit and social behaviour of these little dinosaurs inferred in the film and from this set of four Rebor replicas, is of course, pure speculation.

Only two Compsognathus (C. longipes) have been described to date, the first specimen discovered came from the famous Upper Jurassic, lithographic limestone deposits of Solnhofen (southern Germany).  The second fossil specimen, was found in a limestone quarry near Nice (south-eastern France), in 1971.

How Big was Compsognathus?

The size of Compsognathus is debated, as there is a considerable disparity between these two specimens.  The German specimen (the holotype), is much smaller and probably represents a juvenile.  In the video, all four models are compared in size to a number of other models including “off colour Alan” and a Rebor Hatching Velociraptor model.  Rebor themselves, state a 1:6 scale for these replicas.

For dinosaur models, toys and games, visit Everything Dinosaur’s website: Everything Dinosaur.

Mixing and Matching Rebor Replicas to Make Unique Dioramas

The JurassicCollectables reviewer demonstrates the flexibility of the Rebor range by bringing in a base from the Rebor Scout model “Breeze” baby Utahraptor and the 1:35 scale Ceratosaurus “Savage” base, these are used to create a little diorama that features the four compsognathids.  The single figure “Sentry” is also included in a couple of shots, this demonstrates how interchangeable the Rebor range is and we at Everything Dinosaur look forward to mixing and matching in this way as the Rebor portfolio grows.

In the picture above the four Rebor Compsognathus replicas all look hungry.  This is one group of dinosaurs that you would not want to cross if you were alone in the woods on Isla Nublar or Isla Sorna for that matter.

JurassicCollectables Reviews The New Scout Series Velociraptor

By |2024-05-06T07:16:33+01:00July 3rd, 2016|Dinosaur Fans, Everything Dinosaur videos, Product Reviews|0 Comments

A Video Review of “Stan” the Rebor Scout Series Velociraptor

JurassicCollectables have produced a video review of the Rebor Scout series Velociraptor “Stan” and what an excellent review it is.  The Velociraptor figure has been introduced alongside “Breeze” the baby Utahraptor model by Rebor, this means that so far, of the four models that make up the Scout series, half of them are dromaeosaurids, much to the delight of “raptor” fans we suspect.  Although, this video review focuses on “Stan”, the baby Utahraptor can be seen on the back of the Velociraptor packaging and JurassicCollectables have promised to post up a video review of “Breeze” in the very near future.

Velociraptor Figure Video Review

In the brief video, (it lasts a little under four minutes), the narrator guides the viewer through the details that can be seen on this carefully sculpted model.  A comparison is made between this figure and the hatching Velociraptors introduced by Rebor earlier this year.  It seems that “Stan” is very similar to the Velociraptors in the Rebor blind box collection, they certainly match up well in terms of the high quality finish.

JurassicCollectables have a wonderful YouTube channel brim full of dinosaur model reviews and other very informative videos.

Honouring Stan Winston

Named after the American television and film special effects specialist Stan Winston, the person behind many of the dinosaurs that featured in the first three films of the “Jurassic Park” trilogy as well as other film classics such as “Aliens”, the first two “Predator” films as well as the “Terminator” series, “Stan” is a very cute looking dinosaur.  Collectors can expect Rebor to pay tribute to Stan Winston once more, in the very near future when “Winston”, the adult Velociraptor figure becomes available.  Team members at Everything Dinosaur have had a sneak preview and we are all very excited.

To see “Stan” the Rebor Scout baby Velociraptor model and the rest of the Rebor range at Everything Dinosaur: Rebor Dinosaurs and Prehistoric Animal Figures.

The Killing Toe Claw

In the JurassicCollectables video the narrator points out those famous second toes, the killing toes as they possess the sickle-shaped claw.  The material used to make the model is also commented upon.  The model has a degree of elasticity.  It still retains its shape and it stands well on the special base provided, but the slight “give” in the forelimbs helps to guard against accidental breakage.  All in all, this is an excellent model and we are delighted to see that a baby Velociraptor has been added to the very collectable Rebor Scout model series.

JurassicCollectables Reviews the New Papo Feathered Velociraptor

By |2024-05-06T06:47:10+01:00June 24th, 2016|Dinosaur Fans, Everything Dinosaur videos, Main Page|0 Comments

The Papo Feathered Velociraptor Model Reviewed

The talented people at JurassicCollectables have made a video review of the new for 2016 Papo feathered Velociraptor dinosaur model, for us this was the last of the 2016 models to arrive and it is certainly a case of last but not least as this is bound to be a big hit with feathered dinosaur replica fans. In the short video, it lasts a little over nine and a half minutes, the JurassicCollectables narrator reviews this new model and compares and contrasts this “raptor” with earlier Papo models.  Papo have certainly done a great job of recreating “speedy thief”.

A Great Video Review of the Papo Feathered Velociraptor Model

In this great video, the narrator gives a detailed review of this new for 2016 sculpt.  It is compared with other Papo models and we really liked the description of that wide opening articulated jaw as a “butterfly jaw”, that’s a fantastic description.  Look out for the CollectA mosasaur model that can be seen at the end of the video.

The 2016 Papo Feathered Velociraptor

The picture above shows one of our studio shots of the new for 2016  Papo Feathered Velociraptor.  JurassicCollectables comment extensively about this new replica and they stress how the skull of this replica more accurately reflects the skull fossils of the Velociraptor genus.

The narrator comments:

“I think this [the Papo feathered Velociraptor model] is incredible!  Papo have excelled in terms of detail and paint job.”

The feathery coat is really well done and we too at Everything Dinosaur would like to congratulate the designers at Papo for making such a fascinating and intriguing replica.

In Everything Dinosaur’s annual survey of the most popular prehistoric animal models, Velociraptor had climbed to number two in our chart.  We suspect that this was because of the influence of the film “Jurassic World”, as Velociraptors play a significant part and perhaps have almost as much, if not more screen time than the Indominus rex.

To read an article about the top five most popular prehistoric animals in our annual survey: Everything Dinosaur’s Annual Prehistoric Animal Survey.

This new feathered Velociraptor model is a welcome addition to the Papo range and it will prove popular with dinosaur fans and collectors alike.  For more information on this replica, don’t forget to check out the amazing Everything Dinosaur website: Everything Dinosaur.

JurassicCollectables Reviews the New Rebor “Sentry”

By |2024-05-06T06:47:45+01:00June 22nd, 2016|Dinosaur Fans, Everything Dinosaur videos, Main Page|0 Comments

A Review of the Rebor Compsognathus “Sentry” by JurassicCollectables

Those clever people at JurassicCollectables have just published a video unboxing and review of the Rebor Compsognathus model “Sentry”.  In this informative five minute video, the Compsognathus replica and the accompanying dragonfly model (Protolindenia) are reviewed in turn and then a number of other Rebor replicas are featured demonstrating how many of the Rebor models can be customised to make intriguing dioramas.  It is an extremely informative video.

JurassicCollectables have produced video reviews of a number of prehistoric animal models that Rebor have made, to see these videos and to subscribe to their excellent YouTube channel: Subscribe to JurassicCollectables on YouTube.

Rebor Compsognathus Model “Sentry”

The narrator compares this 1:6 scale replica of this Jurassic dinosaur to the compsognathids that were depicted in the second of the Jurassic Park movies “The Lost World”, which came out in 1997 and was the second highest grossing movie that year behind Titanic.  In the film, the small but agile compsognathids are social animals that live in a flock and they attack a young girl before gaining even more notoriety by fatally attacking one of the InGen team members Dieter Stark, played by Peter Stormare.  It seems that in the “Lost World” even tiny dinosaurs can be extremely dangerous when they are hungry.

To view the complete range of Rebor replicas in stock at Everything Dinosaur: Rebor Prehistoric Animal Figures and Models.

Influenced by “Jurassic Park”

The compsognathids from the film have certainly inspired the model makers at Rebor.  Their compsognathids “Sentry” and the four model set “Bad Company” due to be reviewed by JurassicCollectables shortly, are very similar to those seen in the movie.  In the video review, the narrator points out several similarities and there is much to be admired about this Rebor 1:6 scale replica.

Everything Dinosaur Comments on the Rebor Compsognathus Model

A spokesperson from Everything Dinosaur commented:

“We have been most impressed with the Compsognathus models made by Rebor.  It is rare to see such fine detail in a dinosaur model and they really are exquisite.  The video review from JurassicCollectables permits viewers to get a good close-up view of a potential purchase.  To view the model before deciding to buy.  It is great to see the dragonfly component also sharing the limelight, this is a wonderful model.  It demonstrates the care and attention to detail that Rebor have instilled into their production process.”

JurassicCollectables show a number of ways in which components from “Sentry” can be combined with other replicas in the Rebor range.  Elements from “Sentry” are shown with “Melon”, the baby Stegosaurus in the Scout series as well as with the Dimorphodon pair (Punch and Judy) and the base from the “Savage” Ceratosaurus 1:35 scale model.

Both the JurassicCollectables YouTube channel and the Rebor replicas are highly recommended.

Congratulations to Safari Ltd

Commenting on the results from The Dinosaur Toy Forum poll, a spokesperson from Everything Dinosaur stated:

“The Forum members certainly know their prehistoric animal replicas and the top ten from this survey shows the broad range of excellent quality prehistoric animal models that are currently available.  The Guidraco Supreme pterosaur model is a worthy runner up but there is no disputing the winner, our congratulations to Safari Ltd for their Sauropelta figure.”

If these ten figures as voted for by The Dinosaur Toy Forum members are anything to go by then the prehistoric animal model making industry is in a very healthy state.  We look forward to hearing which of the many dinosaur figures introduced this year will be voted number one by the prestigious Dinosaur Toy Forum.

JurassicCollectables Reviews the New Papo Green Velociraptor

Papo Green Velociraptor Video Review

Those clever people at JurassicCollectables have made a video review of the new for 2016 green Papo Velociraptor dinosaur model that we sent them.  In the brief video, it lasts a little under ten minutes, the narrator discusses the history of Papo Velociraptor model production and compares and contrasts the various versions made by the French manufacturer.  Look out for the model line up, the “Raptor squad” as the narrator calls them or as we prefer, the “boy band from Hell”!

Very Informative Video

The video is extremely informative and points out some of the fine details on the model as well as subtle differences between this replica and the rare 2005 version.  We particularly enjoyed the use of a Rebor hatching Velociraptor model to show the scale.  For those who don’t have a hatching Velociraptor handy to assess the size of this new for 2016 replica, its vital statistics are – length 18 cm approximately with a head height of around 8 cm.

To see the range of Papo prehistoric animal models available from Everything Dinosaur (including the Papo green Velociraptor): Papo Prehistoric Animal Models and Figures.

Papo Velociraptor Figures

With the introduction of this new replica, unscrupulous dealers might try and pass off this green version as one of the very rare and extremely valuable original brown Papo models.  The brown Velociraptor was retired by Papo some years ago now, we sold out of our last stocks a long time ago, but we still receive enquiries from collectors hoping to pick up a bargain from us.  After all, as model collectors ourselves it is against our company policy to exploit the rarity of a figure by charging exorbitant prices for it.

A case in point is the Battat Terra Nanshiungosaurus.  This figure has been retired by Battat and is getting rarer and rarer, but at Everything Dinosaur, it is priced exactly the same as the other nine models, that are roughly the same size in that range.  We value our customers and don’t believe in ripping people off.

To view the range of models and figures available from Everything Dinosaur: Dinosaurs and Prehistoric Animal Models.

Tips to Avoid Getting Stung!

So how to avoid getting stung by an unscrupulous dealer who tries to pass off a new green Papo Velociraptor for the very scarce, brown Velociraptor figure?  The colour scheme is quite similar, so your best bet is to insist on purchasing a model with the GTIN limb sticker intact.  If the GTIN limb sticker ends 550585, it is a new model and not the original brown version (which we think had a GTIN number ending something like 55021).

Papo Models have GTIN Labels, Normally Attached to a Limb

Acquiring the New Papo Green Velociraptor Figure

The picture above shows one of our studio shots of the new for 2016 green Papo Velociraptor.  The GTIN number is displayed on a white sticker that, in this case is attached to the left leg.  Note how in our photograph, the green colouration of this model looks quite muted.  It could easily be mistaken for the rare and difficult to obtain Papo brown Velociraptor.

The very helpful JurassicCollectables video also gives a few pointers on how to tell the two models apart.  If you come across an amazing offer from someone on an on line auction site, in such instances, the old adage comes into play, if it sounds too good to be true it probably isn’t.

JurassicCollectables Battat Terra T. rex Unboxing

Our chums at JurassicCollectables have produced another prehistoric animal model video.  For the first time on their YouTube they feature one of the Battat Terra dinosaur models, the Tyrannosaurus rex no less.  This model is one of the largest of the twelve Battat Terra dinosaur replicas currently available and JurassicCollectables present an unboxing video, opening the package that we sent them, we note the very sensible advice about using a craft knife.

The Battat Terra Dinosaur Models

The Battat Terra dinosaurs were introduced last year, they are repaints of the model line created by Battat and the highly respected, American palaeoartist Dan LoRusso that was originally designed for the Boston Museum of Science.  Sadly, with the death of Dan, plans to introduce other replicas that were once part of the range, remain on hold but in our meetings with the Battat family we have expressed our interest in stocking all the replicas that become available.  We feel that this would be a fitting tribute to the inspirational Dan LoRusso.

The Current Battat Terra Dinosaur Range Consists of Twelve Models

The range of 12 Battat Terra Dinosaur Models.

The current Battat Terra dinosaur range is certainly very colourful.  As well as the Tyrannosaurus rex replica, there are five other theropod dinosaurs included in this range.  They are the Acrocanthosaurus, Ceratosaurus, Crylophosaurus, Carnotaurus and the scythe lizard Nanshiungosaurus.  Dinosaur model collectors are advised that the Battat Terra Nanshiungosaurus has been retired, stocks are available but this therizinosaurid figure is not going to be manufactured any more.

These wonderful models range in size from a compact eleven centimetres long to an impressive twenty-eight centimetres in length. In truth, a number of models are slightly bigger than the measurement figures we have given them on our website, as we have not taken into account the length of any curved tails.

In the twelve-minute-long video, the narrator starts with the head and points out the details including the fine paintwork on the articulated jaw.  The colour scheme is not quite as purple looking as other re-painted T. rex models made by Papo, but JurassicCollectables describe this model as “exquisite” with “really lovely work by Papo”.  The model is even shown in ventral view (looking at the belly), in this view the wonderful detail of the scales on the body can be made out, this is once again an excellent model from the Papo stable.

A Splendid Theropod the Papo Running T. rex Model

The video shows the musculature of the sculpt and points out similarities as well as differences with other Tyrannosaurus rex models produced by Papo.  The coloured variant is compared with the Running T. rex model and there is even a brief appearance by the exceptionally rare green standing Tyrannosaurus rex figure that was retired by Papo some years ago.  Off-colour Alan was so impressed by the quality of the video that he was “bowled over” and he could not stand up to provide a scale next to this new for 2016 Papo replica.

Those clever people at JurassicCollectables have produced video reviews of every prehistoric animal replica that Papo have manufactured, to see these videos and to subscribe to their very informative YouTube channel: Subscribe to JurassicCollectables on YouTube.

There are still a number of new for 2016 models expected at Everything Dinosaur in the coming weeks, the spring has been a busy time for the UK based company with lots of new prehistoric animal replicas from Rebor, CollectA, Safari Ltd as well as the introduction of the Battat Terra line of dinosaur figures.
