A Short Video of the Schleich Diabloceratops Model

Everything Dinosaur have posted up a short video previewing the new for 2019 Schleich Diabloceratops dinosaur model. This video is more of a teaser for fans of prehistoric animals and dinosaur model collectors. In the video, we confirm the length of this figure (it is approximately sixteen centimetres long and those impressive horns are approximately eleven centimetres off the ground).

One of Four New Prehistoric Animal Models from Schleich in July 2019

The Schleich Diabloceratops will be replacing the recently retired Schleich Styracosaurus and the beautiful Pentaceratops figure. It will be one of four new prehistoric animal models from Schleich due to arrive at Everything Dinosaur’s warehouse in July (2019). The other figures are:

Schleich Dracorex – a model of the “dome-headed” dinosaur Dracorex hogwartsia. The Schleich Dracorex measures nineteen centimetres long and the head height is around ten centimetres.
The Schleich juvenile Giganotosaurus – this figure has an articulated lower jaw and it measures around twenty-six centimetres in length and stands over ten centimetres high.
Schleich Plesiosaurus – this marine reptile has a poseable neck and it is approximately sixteen centimetres long.

A spokesperson from Everything Dinosaur commented:

“The Schleich Diabloceratops model has certainly been getting a lot of attention. Within the Schleich range of large dinosaur models, there is one chasmosaurine (Triceratops) and one centrosaurine which is the new Diabloceratops. The two great tribes of Late Cretaceous horned dinosaurs are now represented by Schleich figures once again. Diabloceratops may have been very distantly related to Triceratops, but they would never have met. Diabloceratops lived millions of years before Triceratops evolved.”

A Preview of the New for 2019 Schleich Plesiosaurus Model

Schleich will be introducing four new prehistoric animal models in July 2019. Today, we take a brief look at the only non-dinosaur figure to come out with this batch of replicas, the Schleich Plesiosaurus. It had been rumoured that the German-based model manufacturer intended to produce a plesiosaur and thanks to Everything Dinosaur, we can now post up a quick video preview of this model that will be in stock in the summer.

Four New Schleich Models

The four new Schleich prehistoric animal models scheduled to be released in July (2019) are as follows:

A juvenile Giganotosaurus.
A Dracorex.
The horned dinosaur Diabloceratops.
A Plesiosaurus (marine reptile).

Praising the Schleich Plesiosaurus

In the short video preview, a spokesperson from Everything Dinosaur comments on the unusual colouration on the top of the head of this figure, the dark blue markings have been described as looking like “goggles”, quite appropriate for an animal that spent much of its time under water. It can be speculated that these reptiles had good colour vision and their heads may have played a role in visual communication. Crests or horns on the head would have affected streamlining so such ornamentation is not known in the Plesiosauria, so perhaps subtle markings on the head could have helped signal the maturity of the animal and its fitness for breeding.

Visit the Everything Dinosaur website: Everything Dinosaur.

A Plesiosaur Colour Scheme

The overall colouration of the plesiosaur model is also discussed. The model is coloured a sky blue with flecks of white on the broad back. This combines well with a paler underside which represents countershading, a concept long linked with extinct marine reptiles and seen in many marine mammals today. The narrator in the video reflects on the fact that the colour scheme reminds him of polar conditions and states that as fossils of plesiosaurs have been found in high latitudes, such a colour scheme is appropriate as these reptiles are now known to have lived in cold waters.

A Model with a Flexible Neck

As with a number of earlier plesiosaur figures, the Schleich Plesiosaurus has a flexible neck. This permits the neck to be placed in a variety of poses. When tested the neck is quite stiff and this allows the figure to remain in the pose chosen without the head drooping down. The Schleich Plesiosaurus will be in stock along with the three other figures (Dracorex, Diabloceratops and the juvenile Giganotosaurus), in July (2019).

JurassicCollectables Reviews the Schleich Animantarx

Schleich Animantarx Model Reviewed by JurassicCollectables

The latest video to be produced by those creative people at JurassicCollectables features one of the new for 2019 Schleich prehistoric animal figures – the Schleich Animantarx. The Animantarx is described as adorable and as it represents an armoured dinosaur that grew to a length of approximately three metres. The model works well in scale with JurassicCollectables regular “off-colour Alan”, who makes an appearance towards the end of the review.

The JurassicCollectables Video Review of the Schleich Animantarx Dinosaur Model

An Adorable Schleich Animantarx

The narrator describes this model as an “adorable Animantarx” and it certainly has an appeal. The figure is nicely proportioned and the wet-looking gloss added to the black eyes provides this replica with a certain charm. It is described as “a cute looking dinosaur” and it is hard to disagree.

Animantarx

The narrator correctly points out that this member of the Nodosauridae family was named and described relatively recently (1999). It is known from very fragmentary fossils, including a partial skull and a piece of fossilised jaw. This dinosaur had a distinctive domed skull and tiny horns behind the eyes. Features that can be seen in the close-up view of the head in the picture above. It is this attention to detail that elevates this armoured dinosaur model. Clearly, the Schleich design team have worked hard to produce a model that reflect scientific understanding.

The model may have flaws, but as the narrator points out, there is much to be admired when it comes to examining the dermal armour, the skin tones and the detailing of the body scales.

Comparing Schleich Prehistoric Animal Models

One of the great benefits of a JurassicCollectables video review is that it enables viewers to see up close a new figure and to compare it to other recent model introductions. In this video review, the new for 2019 Schleich Spinosaurus figure is shown and the 2019, re-painted Dimetrodon makes an appearance. Both the Dimetrodon and the Schleich Spinosaurus have also been recently reviewed on the JurassicCollectables channel. As mentioned earlier, “off-colour Alan” appears in the video as well. It is always a pleasure to see “off-colour Alan”.

Dimetrodon and Giganotosaurus (Schleich) Reviewed by JurassicCollectables

Those talented people at the JurassicCollectables YouTube channel have released another video, this time, it is a review of two of the new for 2019 Schleich prehistoric animal figures, both re-paints, the Schleich Giganotosaurus and the Schleich Dimetrodon.

New for 2019/New Colour Schemes

Both these figures are new colour schemes of previously introduced sculpts. Providing re-painted versions of existing models can help to broaden a product range and provides a contrast to previously introduced figures. For example, the new for 2019 Schleich Giganotosaurus has an altogether darker colour scheme than the Schleich Giganotosaurus (orange) that was launched in 2015. The narrator points this out and goes on to provide a detailed analysis of the subtle use of airbrushing as well as commenting upon the darker colour palette associated with the skull and the airbrushing to bring out the textures in the neck.

In the Video Review, the Darker Tones of the Giganotosaurus Colour Scheme are Commented Upon

Five New Schleich Prehistoric Animals

The Giganotosaurus and the Dimetrodon are two of the five new Schleich prehistoric animals to be introduced in the first part of 2019. We will post up details of other Schleich models due to be introduced in July, but for the meantime, dinosaur fans have a Spinosaurus, Dimorphodon, an armoured dinosaur (Animantarx) and these two prehistoric animals to collect.

Everything Dinosaur has also announced a number of model retirements from the Schleich range.

The Schleich Dimetrodon (2019)

Dimetrodon seems to be a staple in prehistoric animal model ranges and is often described incorrectly as a dinosaur. However, this Permian predator from Schleich is praised by the video narrator for its excellent airbrushing and fine detail, especially on the sail. The texture on the animal’s flank and the carefully painted eyes are highlighted.

JurassicCollectables have a long history of producing dinosaur model reviews, they suggest that the colour scheme for the new for 2019 Dimetrodon reflects the original “Jurassic Park” Dimetrodon model that was introduced in the 1990s. The narrator comments that the figure has been painted in naturalistic colours, reminiscent of many living lizards.

“Hurricane” – Rebor Hatching Baryonyx

There have only been a 1,000 of these models made and the narrator begins the video by highlighting the box and the packaging. Comments are made about taking care when it comes to removing the model out of the protective foam. Those beautifully sculpted claws on this substantial figure might catch and get damaged, so the narrator emphasises the need to take care when opening the box and taking out the model and its accessories for the first time.

Why Hurricane?

At Everything Dinosaur, we have been asked why does this dinosaur figure have the nickname “Hurricane”? Baryonyx (B. walkeri) is known from sediments that were deposited in a low-lying, flood plain environment. When Baryonyx roamed that part of the world that we now know as the Isle of Wight, for example, large rivers meandered slowly eastwards to the sea. This location would have been subjected to tropical storms and hurricanes from time to time and such events would have had a devastating effect on the environment. Dinosaurs like Baryonyx would have had to endure such violent weather, so the term “Hurricane” is appropriate. However, there is another reason for this Rebor figure’s nickname…

“Hurricane” honours Harry Kane, the Tottenham Hotspur and England forward. Harry Kane is the current captain of the England football team and he helped England reach two semi-finals in 2018. Hence this football themed dinosaur replica from Rebor, it celebrates England reaching the World Cup semi-final as well as their qualification for the semi-finals of the inaugural UEFA Nations League.

In the detailed video review, the narrator comments over the subtle use of a wash that gives the replica a wet look, just like a newly hatched animal. The shape of the egg is discussed and how to position it on its base is demonstrated and JurassicCollectables comment on the delicately shaped and realistic looking vegetation that is included with the figure. Off-colour Alan makes his customary appearance and the recently reviewed Schleich 2019 Spinosaurus is included so that viewers can gain an appreciation as to just how big this hatching Baryonyx actually is.

In this short video, we demonstrate that the Papo Gorgosaurus does not need to rest on its tail in order to balance. This figure is one of five new for 2019 Papo prehistoric animal models, it should be available in quarter three of this year, perhaps around June/July . It could arrive a little sooner, it could be in stock at Everything Dinosaur a little later. At least our customers and dinosaur model fans have had the chance of a sneak peek of this new tyrannosaurid dinosaur figure from the French manufacturer.

New Eofauna Giganotosaurus with an Articulated Jaw

Eofauna Giganotosaurus with an Articulated Jaw

One of the great things about supplying dinosaur models and prehistoric animal figures to collectors all around the world, is that we get to examine the models in our warehouse before they get allocated space on the shelves in readiness for being purchased and dispatched. When a shipment of new models arrives, there is a lot of excitement around the office and whilst unpacking all the cases, we have the opportunity to examine up close and in detail the latest editions to Everything Dinosaur’s product portfolio.

This week has seen the arrival of the eagerly anticipated Eofauna Scientific Research Giganotosaurus model in 1:35 scale. The model is beautifully detailed and we thought it fitting to make a short video of the articulated jaw, after all, the size estimate for this meat-eating dinosaur of around 13-14 metres in length was based on the discovery of some super-sized Giganotosaurus teeth.

Fifty New Prehistoric Animal Models Coming to Everything Dinosaur in 2019

At the beginning of the year, we predicted that we would be adding approximately fifty new models to our already extensive range. That’s just about one new model every week. To read about our palaeontology crystal ball gazing and other predictions for 2019: Our Predictions for the Forthcoming Year.

The Eofauna Giganotosaurus is the first dinosaur model to be created by this talented company. We knew about the introduction of this theropod many months ago, when we met up with the senior management team of Eofauna Scientific Research, we even helped with the production of the text that accompanies this beautifully-crafted dinosaur model.

We have added this figure to our own prehistoric animal model collection (we already have the two prehistoric elephants – the Steppe Mammoth and the Straight-tusked Elephant), we chose to create a short video just to demonstrate the skilfully sculpted skull and to highlight the model’s articulated jaw.

We are already looking forward to the fourth model to come out from Eofauna Scientific Research. No doubt, details about this will be posted up on this blog site and on Everything Dinosaur’s social media sites in the near future.

Schleich Spinosaurus Review by JurassicCollectables

Those clever and talented film-makers at JurassicCollectables have produced a review of the new for 2019 Schleich Spinosaurus, a figure that has received a lot of praise from dinosaur enthusiasts and model collectors. Schleich, the German model and figure manufacturer, have produced several Spinosaurus figures over the years. Team members at Everything Dinosaur have considered writing an article highlighting how changes in these models have reflected scientific understanding, but for the time being we have this wonderful video review of the Spinosaurus to watch.

The Schleich Spinosaurus (2019)

This is the first Spinosaurus model produced by Schleich that portrays this dinosaur as a quadruped. In this well-crafted and highly informative video the narrator takes viewers on a guided tour of this excellent addition to the Schleich model range. The video itself is just a little over seven minutes in length and a video review such as this, really helps dinosaur model fans to get a good look at a figure, helping them to decide whether or not to add it to their collection.

Crocodilian Features

In the video, the quadrupedal stance is commented upon. The influence of crocodilan anatomy on the model is also stated, many palaeontologists believe that Spinosaurus was semi-aquatic and took up an ecological niche similar to large crocodilians today – that of an aquatic predator. The narrator takes care to point out the long tail with its crocodilan scutes. The skull is also shown in detail and there are plenty of close-up shots of those long, narrow crocodile-like jaws.

The Spinosaurus Model is Carefully Measured in the Video Review

Measuring the Model

JurassicCollectables include a video segment in which the model is carefully measured. At Everything Dinosaur, we also measure the models in our inventory. The length of the Schleich Spinosaurus is approximately 29 centimetres. Later on in the video, the Spinosaurus is compared with the classic Papo green Tyrannosaurus rex figure, off-colour Alan also makes a welcome return and helps to demonstrate just how large this new Schleich figure is.

This Spinosaurus is one of five new prehistoric animal models introduced by Schleich in early 2019. The other models are:

Papo Prehistoric Animal Model Retirements

Everything Dinosaur has teamed up with their chums over at the YouTube channel of JurassicCollectables to bring dinosaur model fans news about which models from the Papo “dinosaurs” range are being retired.

News may have already leaked out about which models Papo intends to release in 2019, Everything Dinosaur will make an official announcement soon about the new for 2019 models. However, in the meantime, here is a special press release in association with JurassicCollectables that provides information about which figures from the popular Papo range are being withdrawn.

Details of Papo Model Retirements for 2019 – JurassicCollectables Video Announcement

Papo Model Retirements

Everything Dinosaur has already released information about two Papo model retirements – the Papo Archaeopteryx and the Papo Tupuxuara pterosaur figure, back in October. In total, a further three models are being dropped, namely:

Papo Allosaurus
Papo running T. rex colour variant
Papo Dimorphodon

Further Details

The Papo Archaeopteryx, first introduced in 2014, is being retired, it has been left out of the 2019 catalogue. The Papo Tupuxuara, which came out in 2015, is also being retired, but it will feature in the new for 2019 Papo catalogue which will be sent out to distributors in January. It has officially been retired but has been included in the catalogue print run to permit what limited stocks that are left to be sold.

The Papo Allosaurus model (55016), a stalwart of the range for many years is also being withdrawn. This figure is not in the 2019 Papo catalogue, it is being replaced by a new colour variant Allosaurus model. The Papo running T. rex colour variant (55057), which was introduced in 2016, has been retired. It too, is out of the new for 2019 catalogue, the idea is that whilst the green running T. rex will remain (55027), the first widely available colour variant will be superseded by the new, brown running T. rex model (55075).

Furthermore, the Papo Dimorphodon model (55063) is being dropped. This flying reptile was added in 2017, but it is not included in the new catalogue and it has been withdrawn.

Papo Prehistoric Animal Models

Some further news for fans of the Papo range, despite the introduction of a new colour variant Stegosaurus model (55079), the original Stegosaurus figure (55007), is still in the 2019 catalogue. Everything Dinosaur team members have speculated that it has been included for the time being, but it will most likely be withdrawn in the future.

The Papo Quetzalcoatlus Model Video Review

The hardworking production team at JurassicCollectables have made a video review of the new for 2018 Papo Quetzalcoatlus pterosaur model. At Everything Dinosaur, the Quetzalcoatlus figure (along with the Papo Compsognathus), represent the last of this year’s models to be introduced by Papo. Although no Quetzalcoatlus flying reptiles appear in the “Jurassic Park/Jurassic World” film franchise, the video narrator makes the point that the model’s colouration, especially around that impressive beak, is very similar to the Pteranodons seen in the various movies.

In the brief video, the video is a fraction under eight minutes in length (7.58), the JurassicCollectables narrator reviews this new azhdarchid pterosaur model and compares and contrasts this figure with the aforementioned Papo Compsognathus. Also featured is the classic Papo green standing Tyrannosaurus rex model, even mathematician Ian Malcolm makes an appearance!

The Papo Quetzalcoatlus “The Detail is Impressive”

The viewer is given a guided tour of this walking pterosaur figure, the narrator comments that the “detail is most impressive” and praises the texture given to the model by the use of “micro-feathers”, it is the pycnofibres that are being referred to. Palaeontologists now know that many kinds of flying reptile were covered in hair-like filaments. Quetzalcoatlus may have had a shaggy coat!

The designers at Papo have taken great care to give their figure a ruffled and naturalistic appearance, a point picked up in the video review.

The picture above shows one of the studio shots from the video review of this Papo flying reptile model. One of the great benefits of video reviews such as this, is that potential buyers can take a really good look at a figure before purchase.

A Colourful Crest and a Beautifully Painted Mouth

The narrator comments on the very colourful crest of this pterosaur model and demonstrates how the jaw articulates. Unlike most prehistoric animal models, it is the upper jaw that articulates. Once the beak is open, the video narrator praises Papo for the great skill and care taken in sculpting and painting the inside of the mouth. Size measurements are made and several other figures are used to demonstrate just how big this pterosaur figure is. For example, in one part of the review the recently introduced Papo Compsognathus model is shown in comparison with the Papo Quetzalcoatlus.

Off-colour Alan is Missing

Regular viewers and subscribers to JurassicCollectable’s YouTube channel will know that a figure called “off-colour Alan” usually makes an appearance. However, on this occasion, this human figure was nowhere to be found so a replica of Dr Ian Malcolm from the film Jurassic Park is used to provide an additional size comparison. We hope that “off-colour Alan” is found soon, after all, there are a lot of prehistoric animal models coming out in the next few months, so the video review team at JurassicCollectables are going to be kept very busy.
