An Important Update About Royal Mail Postal Strikes (Summer 2022)

By |2024-05-12T07:34:37+01:00August 9th, 2022|Categories: Adobe CS5, Dinosaur Fans, Everything Dinosaur News and Updates, Main Page, Press Releases|0 Comments

Everything Dinosaur have been informed that the forthcoming industrial action at Royal Mail will lead to delays in parcel deliveries both in the UK and overseas. Our customers can be assured that Everything Dinosaur team members will be putting in place measures to protect customers and to minimise disruption as much as is possible.

Following a ballot amongst its members back in July, the Communication Workers Union (CWU) threatened strike action.

Royal Mail has issued the following statement:

“The Communication Workers Union has informed Royal Mail that they will call upon their members to undertake strike action on the following dates: 26th and 31st August and 8th and 9th September 2022. Royal Mail believes there are no grounds for industrial action. Royal Mail is ready to talk further with the CWU to try to avert damaging industrial action, but it must be about both change and pay.”

Contingency Plans in Place

We have already put in plans to try to mitigate the impact of the proposed industrial action. We intend to implement our Christmas period action plan. This means that we will work longer hours including Sundays to ensure orders are picked, prepared and packed as quickly as we can so that they can be sent out as soon as Royal Mail collections commence.

Everything Dinosaur works with several courier companies not just Royal Mail and will be exploring how we can support our delivery service in the light of the announcement of industrial action by the Communication Workers Union (summer/autumn 2022). Picture credit: Everything Dinosaur.

A spokesperson from Everything Dinosaur commented:

“We have an exceptionally good relationship with all the delivery companies that we work with. We have gone out of our way to build effective, strong communication between ourselves and our delivery partners. We have already implemented an action plan to help mitigate this disruption and to minimise any inconvenience that customers might face.”

The proposed CWU strike days:

  • Friday 26th August (Friday before the UK Bank Holiday on Monday 29th August).
  • Wednesday 31st August.
  • Thursday 8th September.
  • Friday 9th September.

CWU must provide Royal Mail with 14 days’ notice prior to any other strike action.

Buy Early – Consider Christmas Purchases

The advice to customers is to buy a few days earlier than they normally would. Please allow extra time for deliveries to be made. If the industrial action continues into the autumn, then it will start to have an impact on Christmas deliveries, so the clear message is shop early for Christmas.

Last year, many retailers had problems obtaining stock in the important sales period in the run up to the festive season. These problems were largely caused by issues with global logistics. Customers were advised to buy early to avoid disappointment, this advice is still relevant. There are on-going problems with global logistics which are likely to be exacerbated by industrial action at Felixstowe port. With potential disruption to mail services, it is advisable and sensible to shop early.

The Beautiful CollectA Deluxe Doedicurus Wins Award

By |2024-05-12T07:30:41+01:00August 5th, 2022|Categories: Adobe CS5, Dinosaur Fans, Everything Dinosaur News and Updates, Everything Dinosaur Products, Main Page, Press Releases|0 Comments

The CollectA Deluxe Prehistoric Life 1:20 scale Doedicurus model has been voted the best non dinosaur prehistoric animal toy figure of 2021 by readers of “Prehistoric Times” magazine. The award is poignant as the designer and inspiration behind the CollectA range of prehistoric animal replicas, Anthony Beeson sadly passed away earlier this year.

The CollectA Deluxe Doedicurus

In November 2020, when Everything Dinosaur in partnership with CollectA announced that a 1:20 scale model of this glyptodont was to be added to the Deluxe/Supreme Prehistoric Life model range Anthony commented:

“I wanted to get away from the rather cartoonish appearance of some of the Doedicurus models on the market.  I have rejected the idea of long spikes on the club as these would be in danger of snapping and not so practical in what was probably its main purpose in mating conflicts between males where the idea is to show strength and not to kill rivals.  One can give a harder blow with a knobbly club. although no doubt used as well in defence, the limited movement afforded to the head would rather limit the animal’s ability to use the club effectively against an attacker.”

We had discussed this replica and Anthony was genuinely excited to have been able to bring his vision for Doedicurus to the market.

Speaking about the sad passing of Anthony, the spokesperson added:

“Anthony’s legacy will live on in the prehistoric animal figures that he has helped to create. The prehistoric animal models manufactured by CollectA, designed by Anthony have delighted, informed and inspired countless numbers of young people all over the world and even though Anthony is no longer with us through the models that he has created he will continue to bring delight, to inform, educate and inspire countless numbers of young people all over the world. Now that’s a legacy, thank you Anthony.”

Papo Dinosaurs and Prehistoric Animal Models

The French manufacturer has spent more than twenty-five years creating an inspirational range of models and figures. In total, Papo currently produces more than six hundred replicas. The company’s prehistoric animals, the “Les Dinosaures” range consists of around fifty figures including the recently released Papo Protoceratops.

The Papo Protoceratops Dinosaur Model

Papo has added several horned dinosaur figures to their model range. The latest addition is a replica of “first horned face” – Protoceratops. The model measures sixteen centimetres in length and the top of that delicately painted neck frill stands some eight centimetres high. The Papo Protoceratops has an articulated jaw.

The Papo Protoceratops in anterior view

Protoceratops is one of the most extensively studied of all the dinosaur genera. Ironically, the first fossilised remains of this little plant-eater were found a hundred years ago (1922). It is appropriate for Papo to introduce a replica of “first horned face” to mark the centenary of this dinosaur’s discovery.

Protoceratops (P. andrewsi) was scientifically described in 1923 (Granger and Gregory).

Papo Dinosaur Model Retirements

Like all the other model and figure manufacturers, Papo are constantly updating and changing the range of replicas they offer. With the addition of the Papo Protoceratops comes news that another horned dinosaur model, the red Papo Styracosaurus model is being retired and withdrawn from production.

The original Papo Styracosaurus model was released in 2011 and has been officially retired in 2022. It will be replaced by a new, green colour variant of Styracosaurus.

Originally released in 2011, the red Papo Styracosaurus dinosaur model is heading for retirement and is now officially out of production. This figure is due to be replaced by a green colour variant. The First Froglet of 2022 Spotted

By |2024-10-16T07:27:27+01:00July 31st, 2022|Categories: Adobe CS5, Animal News Stories, Everything Dinosaur News and Updates, Main Page|0 Comments

We have spotted our first froglet of 2022 from our office pond. Team members at Everything Dinosaur had been looking out for the first frogs to complete their metamorphosis and we have been taking care not to disturb the pond area, although it does need some tender care and a good clean out.

The picture (above), shows the tiny amphibian (Rana temporaria), clinging to the wall of our pond. It has already had probably, its longest journey of its life. We removed a pot plant choked with Elodea weed and drove a few miles to another location where we could safely plant the pond weed. Whilst inspecting the large hopper we used to transport the plants to the new site, we spotted the froglet. We made sure that it was returned to the pond where it was hatched. Hopefully, this frog will hang around the office pond, and perhaps it will return to it in a few years to spawn.

A Popular Spinosaurus Figure

The Spinosaurus replica measures around 22 cm in length and it was one of three dinosaur models (excluding armoured prehistoric animal figures), introduced last year by Safari Ltd. The Spinosaurus replica arrived at Everything Dinosaur’s UK warehouse in the spring of 2021 along with the new for 2021 Safari Ltd Daspletosaurus. The other dinosaur figure introduced by the Safari Ltd team was an updated version of Baryonyx, a dinosaur which was also a member of the Spinosauridae.

Commenting on the award of the best dinosaur toy figure of 2021, a spokesperson from Everything Dinosaur commented:

“The readers of the magazine are very knowledgeable and discerning. The Spinosaurus figure was up against some very tough competition and to win this award is a wonderful affirmation of the dedication and hard work of the Safari Ltd design team.”

Safari Ltd have introduced a variety of Spinosaurus replicas since the company started making dinosaur models back in the late 1980s. More Environmentally Friendly Bubble Wrap

By |2022-10-20T12:26:17+01:00July 24th, 2022|Categories: Adobe CS5, Everything Dinosaur News and Updates, Main Page, Press Releases|0 Comments

Everything Dinosaur is switching to more environmentally friendly bubble wrap as part of the company’s continuing commitment to more sustainable working practices. The UK-based company has already committed to using 100% recycled cardboard for its product packaging and fully compostable potato starch chips. The bubble wrap used to help protect prehistoric animal models and other items sent out in the post, will now consist of a minimum of 30% recycled material.

Everything Dinosaur users more environmentally friendly bubblewrap

A spokesperson from Everything Dinosaur commented:

“We are committed to lowering our carbon footprint, minimising waste and to reducing our impact on the planet. As part of our environmental policy, we have been able to source bubble wrap that uses at least 30% recycled material. We are doing our best to cut down on the use of plastics in our business, but when plastic packaging can’t be avoided, we are using more environmentally friendly packaging.”

Increased Packaging Costs Not Being Passed onto Customers

The new air-pocket-based packaging material is more expensive than standard bubble wrap. It offers the same level of protection but rather than use cheaper materials Everything Dinosaur is committed to taking measures to help minimise single use plastics and protect the environment.

The considerable extra costs for sourcing this new packaging material are not being passed onto customers.

Reducing Waste – Increasing Recycling

The company has introduced numerous measures to reduce waste. Virtually all the wastepaper and cardboard are recycled and Everything Dinosaur has entered into an agreement with a local print company to return wooden pallets, so they can be used over and over again.

The spokesperson added:

“Whilst our cost base has increased as a result of the steps we have undertaken, we believe that this is the right thing to do. We have even introduced electricity and water saving measures. The non-avian dinosaurs might be extinct and we need to ensure that our own species does not go the same way.”

When did Sixty-Five Million Years Ago Become Sixty-Six Million Years Ago? That’s a Great Question!

By |2024-05-07T13:49:49+01:00July 23rd, 2022|Categories: Dinosaur Fans, Everything Dinosaur News and Updates, Main Page|0 Comments

Twenty years ago, references to the end-Cretaceous mass extinction event confidently stated that this occurred around 65 million years ago, the date of the extinction of the Dinosauria et al seems to have been pushed back to a million years earlier. When did this change in chronology happen?

Sixty-five Million Years or Sixty-six Million Years?

Team members at Everything Dinosaur have been reviewing the huge inventory of blog posts that have been built up over the last fifteen years or so. It has been noted that the extinction of the dinosaurs, pterosaurs and a large portion of other types of life on Earth at the end of the Cretaceous in the numerous early blog articles that reference this event, is estimated to have occurred around sixty-five million years ago. In later articles, the date given is approximately sixty-six million years ago.

Visit Everything Dinosaur’s award-winning website: Everything Dinosaur.

In 2013, Everything Dinosaur reported upon the work of an international team of scientists that had calculated the most accurate date for the extraterrestrial impact that created the Chicxulub crater. Researchers from the Berkeley Geochronology Centre (University of California), in co-operation with colleagues from Glasgow University and Vrije University (Amsterdam, Holland), have concluded that a meteorite, asteroid or possibly even an object such as a comet collided with the Earth approximately 66.038 million years ago (plus or minus 11,000 years).

Everything Dinosaur is an award-winning and highly respected supplier of prehistoric animal models and toys. To view the extensive range of dinosaur models and other replicas available: Dinosaur and Prehistoric Animal Models and Figures.

Could this scientific paper have marked the point in time, when the point in time marking the end of the non-avian dinosaurs was changed in popular culture?

Maintenance on the Everything Dinosaur Blog

By |2022-10-20T12:30:58+01:00July 21st, 2022|Categories: Adobe CS5, Dinosaur Fans, Everything Dinosaur News and Updates, Main Page, Press Releases|0 Comments

The Everything Dinosaur blog consists of over 6,000 posts. The articles, features and news stories on the blog provide a valuable resource for teachers, academics and dinosaur fans. First started back in late May 2007, team members have built up an extensive library of dinosaur and prehistoric animal themed posts. The site, like all websites, needs to be occasionally modified and updated to help maintain and improve the customer experience. Over the next few weeks, the Everything Dinosaur blog will be undergoing some maintenance.

The Everything Dinosaur blog is undergoing routine maintenance and new updates are being added. These changes are being made to improve the efficiency and function of the site.

An Enormous Weblog

A review of each and every article posted on the blog is being undertaken. This is an immense amount of work, as there are thousands of articles and millions of words on the site. This maintenance work has been structured to ensure that visitors can access the blog posts with the minimum of disruption. Viewers will not notice the work going on, but behind the scenes our trained Velociraptors will be working hard to ensure that the weblog is in tip-top condition.

A spokesperson from Everything Dinosaur commented:

“We understand that our blog is very important to people, we will continue to post up articles and features whilst this work is going on. It will be business as usual for all the blog site visitors, but in the background we will be implementing changes to ensure our site is secure and provides the very best customer visitor experience. Around 3% of the site has been reviewed and checked over so far, but we intend to make rapid progress over the next few days.”

Everything Dinosaur Dodo model.
One of the first blog posts published by Everything Dinosaur fifteen years ago featured a model of Dodo that we had sourced for a customer. Team members still trace prehistoric animal models and figures requested by customers. Our commitment to customer service continues to be maintained.

The spokesperson for Everything Dinosaur commented that by the end of this year, team members would have posted up another 150 articles on the Everything Dinosaur blog and that the landmark of 7,000 blog posts was expected to be reached by the middle of 2025.
