New Wild Safari Prehistoric World Deinosuchus Model in Stock

By |2026-10-21T22:22:39+01:00October 21st, 2026|Categories: Wild Safari Prehistoric World|0 Comments

The new Wild Safari Prehistoric World Deinosuchus model is in stock at Everything Dinosaur. Mike and Sue have been busy contacting customers who asked to be informed about its arrival.  The taxonomy of Deinosuchus remains uncertain. Fossil remains are fragmentary, however, it is now known that this massive predator lived on both sides of the Western Interior Seaway.  It is regarded by many palaeontologists as one of the largest members of the crocodilian lineage known to science.  This giant reptile could have exceeded ten metres in length.

The model measures an impressive twenty-three and a half centimetres in length.  Ironically, for such a powerful predator, the figure does not have an articulated jaw.  However, the model has been beautifully painted and shows some remarkable detail. Congratulations to the design team for their depiction of the thick osteoderms on the back of the animal.  In addition, the mouth, teeth and jaws have been designed with care.

Mike from Everything Dinosaur commented:

“Safari Ltd produced a replica of Deinosuchus many years ago.  It was part of the Carnegie collection.  Indeed, we at Everything Dinosaur stocked this model, but it was retired and moved out of production in 2015 or thereabouts.  However, we are delighted to see a new interpretation of this Late Cretaceous giant arriving at our warehouse.”

Discover the Amazing Pterygoid Teeth on the Palate of a Mosasaurus Model

By |2026-08-05T16:53:03+01:00August 9th, 2026|Categories: Wild Safari Prehistoric World|0 Comments

There are many details to admire in the new Wild Safari Prehistoric World Mosasaurus model. For example, there are pterygoid teeth on the roof of the mouth. The best prehistoric animal figures feature anatomical details that elevate them above other figures. The inclusion of the remarkable Mosasaurus pterygoid teeth is a sure sign that a great deal of care and attention was involved in the design process.

Mosasaurus pterygoid teeth.

A photograph of the roof of the mouth of the new for 2026 Wild Safari Prehistoric World Mosasaurus model. The pterygoid teeth and the choanae (internal nostrils) are clearly visible. The choanae are paired openings on the roof of the mouth (the palate) that connect the oral cavity to the nasal passages. The pterygoid teeth help to grip slippery prey and manoeuvre food items down the gullet. Picture credit: Everything Dinosaur.

Prehistoric animal models capture our imagination.  They can have striking colour schemes and dramatic poses.  However, the very best models also include substantial anatomical details. These details help to bring the animal to life and can inspire a collector to ask questions about that long extinct creature. Furthermore, accurate prehistoric animal figures encourage collectors and young dinosaur fans to look more closely at prehistoric life.

Mosasaurus Pterygoid Teeth

Most reptiles have teeth attached to their upper and lower jaws. Mosasaurs, however, possessed an additional set of teeth on bones known as the pterygoids, located on the roof of the mouth. These Mosasaurus pterygoid teeth acted like a second row of backwards-pointing hooks. Once prey had been seized by the jaws, the pterygoid teeth helped grip and push the prey item down the gullet. When tackling slippery fish or a struggling marine reptile, a second set of teeth on the palate came in handy.

Many lizards and snakes living today have pterygoid teeth.  This shared anatomical trait helps to demonstrate that the Mosasauridae family are members of the Squamata.

The model has a forked tongue and pterygoid teeth.  In addition, the skin texture reflects current scientific understanding.  Furthermore, the model has an asymmetrical (hypocercal) tail.

Hidden Details Rewarding Curious Minds

Many collectors may never notice the pterygoid teeth unless they look inside the model’s open mouth. Nevertheless, including them demonstrates a commitment to scientific accuracy that deserves recognition. Observant collectors might spot the forked tongue too.

It is often these small anatomical features that transform a model from a simple toy into an educational resource. A single question can lead to discussions about anatomy, adaptation, evolution and fossil evidence. In our view, inspiring curiosity is one of the greatest strengths of well-designed prehistoric animal figures.

At Everything Dinosaur, we have always believed that scientifically accurate models can play an important role in science education. Young fossil enthusiasts frequently learn about extinct animals through books and museum visits, but handling a detailed model provides another valuable way to explore prehistoric life. The new Wild Safari Prehistoric World Mosasaurus is an excellent reminder that attention to detail matters. Every carefully sculpted anatomical trait helps tell the story of an animal that ruled the world’s oceans during the Late Cretaceous.

Mike from Everything Dinosaur commented:

“Sometimes, the most fascinating feature of a prehistoric animal model is hidden in plain sight. In this case, it is the remarkable Mosasaurus pterygoid teeth, a small detail that makes a very big impression”.

New Wild Safari Prehistoric World Mosasaurus Model in Stock

The new for 2026 Wild Safari Prehistoric World Mosasaurus model has arrived.  This marine reptile figure is now in stock at Everything Dinosaur. It is praised for its anatomical details such as a hypocercal tail and pterygoid teeth. In addition, the model has a forked tongue.

The Wild Safari Prehistoric World Mosasaurus Figure

Safari Ltd have introduced an updated and more scientifically accurate Mosasaurus.  The model has no declared scale, but it does measure nearly twenty centimetres in length.  We are uncertain as to which species the model might represent.

Everything Dinosaur received photographs of the model from the manufacturer. One photograph shows this new marine reptile figure taking to water.

Mike from Everything Dinosaur commented:

“It is a highly detailed figure, and the subtle painting is fantastic.”

Scientifically Accurate

The design team have taken great care to incorporate scientifically accurate details into this figure.  For example, there are pterygoid teeth in the roof of the mouth. Furthermore, the figure has a forked tongue. There are a pair of openings in the roof of the mouth. They hint at the presence of a Jacobson’s organ. It is a specialised sensory structure helping Mosasaurus to detect particles in water. This detail on the model, links it to the anatomy of modern snakes and lizards. Indeed, mosasaurs were squamates.

The figure has a hypocercal tail. An asymmetrical tail fin found in certain fish and marine reptiles where the spinal column or notochord extends into the lower lobe, making the bottom part larger or more pronounced than the upper part.

Mike from Everything Dinosaur added:

“Furthermore, the Mosasaurus figure has a hypocercal tail. The lower lob of the tail is larger than the upper lobe.”

The eleven colourful models are supplied with their own carry case.

These attractive figures range in size. The largest figures are just under ten centimetres in length.  They are wonderful figures and ideal for creative play.  The majority of the models represent dinosaurs that lived during the Cretaceous.

Can you name them all?

Mike from Everything Dinosaur commented:

“This set helps to educate young people about the diets of different types of dinosaurs.  In addition, it highlights the variety and diversity of plant-eating dinosaurs.  It is a colourful and decorative set of herbivorous dinosaur models. The Wild Safari Prehistoric World Megalosaurus Model

Megalosaurus holds a special place in scientific history. Firstly, it was formally named and described in 1824 (Buckland). As a result, it helped shape early understanding of prehistoric reptiles. Today, it remains one of the most historically significant theropods. After all, it was the first dinosaur to be scientifically described.

The Wild Safari Prehistoric World Megalosaurus model captures this iconic carnivore in impressive detail. The figure features carefully sculpted musculature and realistic skin textures. In addition, the dynamic pose reflects current scientific thinking about theropod movement. The attractive colour scheme also enhances the model’s visual appeal. Therefore, it makes a striking dinosaur display piece.

Saying Hello to Megalosaurus

Mike from Everything Dinosaur commented on this exciting arrival. He stated:

“We are delighted to welcome the Wild Safari Prehistoric World Megalosaurus model. I do not recall Safari Ltd having produced a Megalosaurus model before.  For instance, I am confident that this dinosaur was never represented in the Carnegie Collection. This beautifully crafted replica represents the first dinosaur ever scientifically described, making it a very special addition for collectors and enthusiasts alike.”

Furthermore, Safari Ltd continues to produce high-quality prehistoric animal figures. This new Megalosaurus model demonstrates their commitment to scientific accuracy and artistic excellence. Consequently, it is likely to prove popular with collectors.

The New Nanuqsaurus Model Photographed in the Studio

By |2025-04-23T17:43:18+01:00April 23rd, 2025|Categories: Wild Safari Prehistoric World|0 Comments

April the 23rd is St George’s day. Saint George is the patron saint of England. Indeed, he is the patron saint of several countries. For example, Malta and Portugal. St George was not English. He is perhaps most famous for slaying a dragon. There is a school of thought that suggests fossilised dinosaur bones were the inspiration for dragons.  We thought it appropriate considering the date that we would post up a picture of a dinosaur.  The recently introduced Wild Safari Prehistoric World Nanuqsaurus figure was close to hand.  So, we photographed it in honour of St George.

Wild Safari Prehistoric World Nanuqsaurus model.

A photograph of the Wild Safari Prehistoric World Nanuqsaurus hoglundi dinosaur model photographed in the studio on St George’s Day.  The figure is leaning forward, we could imagine that this polar tyrannosaur was facing a knight mounted on his steed charging towards it. The Wild Safari Prehistoric World Nanuqsaurus

The Nanuqsaurus model is leaning forward. Its cavernous jaws are open.  It is quite easy to imagine this Late Cretaceous tyrannosaur figure facing a shining knight in armour as a child recreates St George’s battle with a dragon.  Not sure how the knight would fare.  After all, Nanuqsaurus hoglundi could be much bigger than previously thought.  Originally considered a “pygmy” tyrannosaur when first described, due to the presumed lack of food resources at high latitudes, some scientists now believe that this theropod was actually much larger.  Could Nanuqsaurus have been around the same size as Daspletosaurus?

No matter the size of the tyrannosaur this figure represents, it is a detailed model, beautifully painted and ideal for robust, creative play.  The model is well suited to the rough and tumble of a joust with a knight or two.

Dragons and Dinosaurs Blurring the Distinction

Team members recall seeing many examples of illustrations in schools where the boundary between a dragon and a dinosaur has been blurred.  Artwork produced by children as part of a topic exploring rocks and fossils often depicts dinosaurs.  However, some of these drawings and crafts blur the boundary between depicting a dinosaur and a fantastical dragon to some extent.  In the minds of some children, it can be hard to distinguish them apart.  After all, in movies dinosaurs and dragons are both, very often depicted as frightening and fearsome monsters.

Hands inspire dinosaur artwork in school.

A “handy” way to create a prehistoric animal in the classroom. Everything Dinosaur team members recall seeing many pieces of art created by schoolchildren that blur the distinction between dragons and the Dinosauria. Picture credit: Everything Dinosaur.

Mike from Everything Dinosaur commented:

“Children might confuse a dragon depicted in a storybook and a dinosaur because both are large, reptilian creatures often portrayed in fantastical settings.  To a young child this might make them seem similar in appearance and nature.”

The new for 2024 Wild Safari Prehistoric World Kentrosaurus and Stegouros armoured dinosaur models have arrived.  These two armoured dinosaur figures are now in stock at Everything Dinosaur.  It is wonderful to see new models representing diverse members of the Thyreophora introduced by Safari Ltd.  Kentrosaurus is from the Late Jurassic of Africa whilst Stegouros is known from the Late Cretaceous of South America.

The Wild Safari Prehistoric World Kentrosaurus

Safari Ltd have included a Kentrosaurus model in their product range in the past.  In 2010, a predominately green Kentrosaurus figure was added to the range.  In 2013, this small figure was retired.  The new for 2024 Kentrosaurus has a very different colour scheme.  It is a vivid electric blue with darker blue tones combined with warm amber colours.  The Wild Safari Prehistoric World Kentrosaurus model measures around twelve centimetres in length.

The Wild Safari Prehistoric World Stegouros Dinosaur Model

Stegouros (S. elengassen) was named in 2021 (Soto-Acuña et al). It was a very small ankylosaur, with an estimated body length of less than two metres.   A spokesperson from Everything Dinosaur praised the design team at Safari Ltd for their excellent Stegouros figure.
