Beautiful CollectA Scale Models

By |2024-12-29T18:13:06+00:00April 13th, 2022|Categories: Adobe CS5, Dinosaur Fans, Everything Dinosaur News and Updates, Everything Dinosaur Products, Main Page, Photos of Everything Dinosaur Products, Press Releases|0 Comments

It is true that many dinosaur model suppliers have struggled to obtain stock. Factories have struggled with production issues and problems with global logistics have caused difficulties with both the sourcing of raw materials as well as the distribution of finished products.

Everything Dinosaur has been able to maintain stocks of CollectA replicas including many of the scale models of dinosaurs such as the CollectA Deluxe Iguanodon and the awesome CollectA Deluxe Mapusaurus.

The CollectA 1:40 scale Iguanodon and Mapusaurus dinosaur models.

A spokesperson from the UK-based mail order company stated that whilst trading conditions were difficult the team at CollectA had worked diligently to continue production and to develop new figures and models.

The spokesperson went onto add:

“Sourcing prehistoric animal models and figures has been extremely challenging over the last twelve months or so. We do not anticipate issues easing for at least another nine months, perhaps longer. However, we at Everything Dinosaur have been able to source figures and whilst some lines are currently out of stock, we do expect stock deliveries in the next few weeks to replenish our inventory.”

CollectA Deluxe Iguanodon and Mapusaurus

The CollectA1:40 deluxe Iguanodon model and the CollectA 1:40 deluxe Mapusaurus were both introduced in 2018 and they have proved to be very popular amongst model collectors and fans of dinosaurs. Despite the difficult global trading conditions, Everything Dinosaur has been able to maintain a stock of a wide range of CollectA scale model figures, including pterosaurs, prehistoric fish, prehistoric mammals and of course, dinosaurs. CollectA has continued production and put in place sensible business plans to help them accommodate the difficult global trading situation.

The introduction of the CollectA 1:40 scale Iguanodon replica in 2018 was particularly significant as it graphically demonstrated how our perceptions regarding this large Cretaceous ornithopod had changed. The CollectA Iguanodon figure helped to convey how the scientific description of Iguanodon has radically altered since it was formally named and described as a genus back in 1825.

Rebor Saurophaganax “Jungle” Video Showcase

Everything Dinosaur has posted up onto its YouTube channel the second video in the trilogy showcasing the Rebor Saurophaganax maximus Notorious Big 1:35 scale dinosaur models. The second video features the “Jungle” colour scheme. The short YouTube video highlighting the Rebor Saurophaganax in the “Badlands” colour scheme was posted up a few days ago, the final video in this series, showcasing the stunning “Volcanic Cavern” figure will be posted shortly.

The “Jungle” Colour Variant

Saurophaganax fossil material is exceptionally rare, much rarer than its contemporaries such as Allosaurus fragilis or Ceratosaurus nasicornis. Although numerous theropods are associated with the the Brushy Basin Member, which is the youngest part of the Morrison Formation, only a handful of fragmentary fossils have been ascribed to S. maximus.

Careful and systematic study of the sedimentary characteristics of the Brushy Basin Member (Tanner et al, 2014), contradict the original conclusion that these sediments were laid down in a very wet environment with extensive lakes and marshes. The palaeoclimate suggests strong seasonal variations with semi-arid periods caused by reduced rainfall (weaker monsoons) interspersed with much wetter, sub-humid periods that resulted from much stronger monsoons. A green-coloured predator would have been camouflaged well against the background vegetation. Of all the three colour variants offered by Rebor – “Badlands, “Jungle” and “Volcanic Cavern”, arguably “Jungle” would provide the best camouflage for the predator.

Important News as Plans to Put Product Videos onto Company Website Suspended

By |2024-10-30T12:57:30+00:00March 28th, 2022|Categories: Adobe CS5, Dinosaur Fans, Everything Dinosaur News and Updates, Main Page, Photos of Everything Dinosaur Products, Press Releases|0 Comments

In late January, Everything Dinosaur announced plans to add short videos to the product pages of its award-winning website: Everything Dinosaur however, the lack of a suitable plug-in to facilitate videos without compromising the site speed has led to a suspension of the project.

Everything Dinosaur’s YouTube channel will include more short product videos, each one less than a minute in length that will highlight product features and showcase the prehistoric animal figure. Picture credit: Everything Dinosaur.

Balancing the Needs of Customers

The intention had been to include product videos, highlighting prehistoric animal models to compliment the images found on Everything Dinosaur’s product pages. However, the three WordPress plug-ins tried either failed to work properly or compromised the website’s load speed.

Rebor hatchling Deinosuchus (Estuary variant) - the video showcase image.

Several showcase videos had been created including one of the limited edition Rebor hatchling Deinosuchus in the estuary colour scheme. Whilst these videos will still be available on Everything Dinosaur’s YouTube channel they will not be featuring on the company’s website.

A spokesperson from Everything Dinosaur commented:

Our website is quite sophisticated and we require a plug-in to be able to play embedded videos from our YouTube channel without causing conflicts with other elements of our website and not slowing down the site. So far, despite our dedicated efforts we have not found the ideal partner.”

Everything Dinosaur’s website is optimised for fast loading on all devices including mobile phones. The site loading time is a key performance indicator for the company as fast loading websites provide an enhanced customer experience.

Visit the Everything Dinosaur website: Dinosaur Toys.

Continuing to Look

Whilst the project has been shelved, Everything Dinosaur will continue to look for suitable plug-ins for their website so that product showcase videos can be played. These videos will still be available on the company’s YouTube channel providing potential purchasers with more information on prehistoric animal models than can be conveyed using standard images alone.

Images as well as videos had been prepared but the lack of a suitable plug-in to accommodate short product videos without compromising the loading of the website has led to the video project being suspended.

Rebor Saurophaganax maximus Notorious Big!

The three Saurophaganax models are the first dinosaur models to be released by Rebor in 2022. Each model measures over 41 cm in length and has an articulated lower jaw, flexible tail and moveable arms. Some customers have reported difficulties fitting the tail to the model, Everything Dinosaur has passed on helpful information and provided advice.

To assist the tail to slot home, dip the white tail plug into a cup of boiling water for 2-3 seconds. The heat will make the plastic more malleable and allow the tail to be inserted. Please take care when handling hot water.

The newsletter also features the other two colour variants, the “Jungle” version and “Badlands”. All three figures have proved to be extremely popular amongst model collectors and dinosaur fans.

Originally named and described in 1941 as Saurophagus maximus by the American palaeontologist John Willis Stovall, the genus name was already occupied and in a review of the fossil material published as a short paper in 1995 Daniel J. Chure erected the genus Saurophaganax. This theropod is regarded as one of the largest carnivorous dinosaurs described to date from fossils associated with Jurassic strata.

The Sensational Rebor Saurophaganax “Volcanic Cavern” Colour Variant

By |2024-10-28T14:14:38+00:00March 18th, 2022|Categories: Adobe CS5, Dinosaur Fans, Everything Dinosaur Products, Main Page, Photos of Everything Dinosaur Products, Product Reviews|0 Comments

Team members at Everything Dinosaur review the Rebor Saurophaganax maximus “Notorious Big” dinosaur model in the “volcanic cavern” colour scheme. In total, three colour variants of this Late Jurassic apex predator have been introduced by Rebor in 2022, “Badlands” was highlighted in an earlier (March 2022), blog post: Rebor Saurophaganax “Badlands” . This week, we posted up more pictures of the “jungle” colour variant: Rebor Saurophaganax “Jungle” and today, we conclude by focusing on the stunning, crimson “volcanic cavern” Saurophaganax dinosaur model.

Volcanic Ash and the Brushy Basin Member

The name of this brightly coloured, 1:35 scale dinosaur model has links with volcanism. Naming a Saurophaganax model “volcanic cavern” is highly appropriate and we congratulate Rebor for their choice of moniker. The holotype material collected by J. W. Stovall in 1931 and 1932 comes from a site in Cimarron County, Oklahoma (OMNH Quarry 1). The sediments represent the Brushy Basin Member of the Morrison Formation, one of the youngest geological units associated with the famous, highly fossiliferous Morrison Formation.

The upper portions of the Brushy Basin Member are dominated by layers of weathered volcanic ash. Altered volcanic ash is particularly abundant in the Brushy Basin Member of the upper part of the Morrison Formation. In one 110-metre-thick section in eastern Utah, 35 separate beds of volcanic ash were deposited over a period of 2.2 million years.

A “Popcorn” Texture

A characteristic of the Brushy Basin Member is the amount of bentonite present. This is a form of weathered ash that has become mixed with fine clay. It is extremely absorbent and tends to swell up as it absorbs moisture giving the ground a bubbly appearance resembling popcorn.

During the Late Jurassic, subduction of the North American tectonic plate led to the creation of a line of volcanoes along the western margins of North America. Periodically, these volcanoes would erupt and eject huge volumes of ash into the atmosphere. The ash clouds would drift eastwards and blanket the land further inland. Saurophaganax lived during this time of volcanic activity and these reptiles would have witnessed the volcanism and suffered the consequences as a result of the periodic eruptions that took place far to the west.

Dating the Strata from Zircons

These volcanic ash deposits yield, extremely resistant zircon crystals which can be used to precisely date the time of deposition by measuring the radiometric decay of isotopes within the igneous material (usually uranium to lead decay). Radiometric dating permits scientists to make an estimate of the age of the bedding planes and infer the age of the fossils that they contain. The presence of the weathered volcanic ash has assisted palaeontologists in working out the age of Brushy Basin component layers.
