The New Papo Kronosaurus Marine Reptile Model

By |2024-01-02T14:55:25+00:00August 27th, 2023|Categories: Adobe CS5, Dinosaur Fans, Everything Dinosaur Products, Main Page, Photos of Everything Dinosaur Products|0 Comments

Everything Dinosaur team members received a request from a model collector to take some photographs of the Papo Kronosaurus marine reptile model. As always, the team members were happy to oblige. Some photographs of this recently arrived Papo replica were emailed to the Papo fan.

The official Papo image that had been released only showed one view of this figure. The collector wanted several views of this new model. The collector also wanted a close-up view of the articulated jaw.

Barnacles and All

A spokesperson from Everything Dinosaur praised the new Papo figure and commented:

“The model is a typical Papo prehistoric animal. It is quite quirky but skilfully sculpted and beautifully painted. It shows some amazing details such as frayed flippers and a scattering of barnacles encrusted on the reptile’s skin.”

Team members have been busy unpacking and stacking the figures in the company’s warehouse. They did confirm the model’s measurements. The Papo Kronosaurus is approximately 18.5 centimetres long. It stands around 8 centimetres high.

Beautiful Papo Iguanodon Model on Display

By |2024-03-09T15:06:50+00:00August 19th, 2023|Categories: Adobe CS5, Dinosaur Fans, Everything Dinosaur Products, Main Page, Photos of Everything Dinosaur Products|0 Comments

Everything Dinosaur team members spotted a familiar figure whilst on a visit to Liverpool. At the Liverpool World Museum, a Papo Iguanodon model was spotted. The dinosaur model was part of a display that highlighted the different dinosaurs the lived during the Cretaceous. This Papo model is not the first Papo dinosaur figure to be used in such a way.

The Papo Iguanodon Model

The Papo Iguanodon model was first introduced in 2018. The iguanodontids may have undergone extensive revision, but Iguanodon (I. bernissartensis) remains an iconic and extensively researched dinosaur genus*.

We suspect that many children visiting the Liverpool World Museum will recognise the model.

* there are two valid species currently assigned to Iguanodon. The type species Iguanodon bernissartensis and Iguanodon galvensis from Spain, which was formally described in 2015 (Verdú et al).

Papo Dinosaurs in Museums

Earlier this year, Everything Dinosaur spotted another Papo figure in a museum display. The popular Papo green, running T. rex model is on display at the Manchester Museum. It is in an exhibit highlighting Tyrannosaurus rex.

A spokesperson from Everything Dinosaur commented:

“Whilst Papo figures may not be the most scientifically accurate models, they have an endearing quality. Children will recognise the dinosaur featured in the museum display based on the dinosaur model incorporated within the exhibit. It was fun to examine the various figures at the museums and to spot some personal favourites.”

Soft Toy Trilobite and an Anomalocaris Model

By |2023-08-12T12:26:33+01:00August 12th, 2023|Categories: Adobe CS5, Dinosaur Fans, Everything Dinosaur News and Updates, Everything Dinosaur Products, Main Page, Photos of Everything Dinosaur Products|0 Comments

Everything Dinosaur team members were contacted by a customer who enquired about the soft toy trilobite. The customer was a fan of prehistoric invertebrates. They wanted a plush trilobite but also enquired about Palaeozoic invertebrate models. We were able to point them in the direction of the invertebrate models with the CollectA Prehistoric Life model range. The CollectA Redlichia trilobite figure had already been purchased, however, the recently introduced CollectA Anomalocaris model appealed.

A Soft Toy Trilobite and the CollectA Anomalocaris

Trilobites may not be regarded as cute and cuddly, but the soft toy trilobite has proved popular. Part of our Palaeozoic plush range, the trilobite soft toy measures twenty-one centimetres long. It is fourteen centimetres wide across the headshield (cephalon). Team members are not sure which genus the soft toy represents, it could be a representation of the genus Calymene.

A spokesperson from Everything Dinosaur commented:

“The trilobite soft toy has proved to be surprisingly popular. The cute and colourful soft toy may not represent a dinosaur, but palaeontologists know just how important the Trilobita are within the fossil record. It is wonderful to be able to offer a soft toy trilobite as part of our plush range.”

The enormous Patagotitan arm bones are on display at the London Natural History Museum. These immense fossils are part of the “Titanosaur: Life as the Biggest Dinosaur” exhibition. This popular exhibition is open until January 2024. Team members at Everything Dinosaur have been fortunate to have visited the museum earlier in the year. This helped them to avoid the inevitable congestion at the peak of the summer tourist season.

Patagotitan mayorum

Patagotitan was formally named and scientifically described in 2017 (Carballido et al). However, the huge fossil bones had attracted considerable media interest since the discovery of a giant portion of thigh bone in 2010. Numerous news reports occurred in 2014 and in January 2016 the BBC broadcast a special programme that tracked the fossil excavation and preservation. The programme was presented by Sir David Attenborough, and it was entitled “Attenborough and the Giant Dinosaur”.

In 2022, Safari Ltd added a replica of Patagotitan to their product range.

A spokesperson from Everything Dinosaur commented:

“Several other titanosaur models have been introduced since the naming of Patagotitan. With the interest in titanosaurs fuelled by the giant arm bones on display, collectors can expect more titanosaur figures to be introduced.”

A Beautiful Baryonyx Fossil Jaw

By |2024-01-02T14:59:21+00:00August 5th, 2023|Categories: Adobe CS5, Dinosaur Fans, Main Page, Photos of Everything Dinosaur Products, Photos/Pictures of Fossils|0 Comments

Team members at Everything Dinosaur took the opportunity to photograph a cast of a Baryonyx fossil jaw on display at the London Natural History Museum. The cast is a replica of the original specimen number BMNH R9951. The holotype material was re-catalogued as NHMUK VP R9951. The British Museum was renamed the Natural History Museum in 1992. The fossils represent one of the most complete dinosaur skeletons found in the UK.

Fossils of this famous theropod dinosaur were excavated from a clay pit near Ockley in Surrey in 1983. The field team was led by palaeontologists from the British Museum (Natural History Museum). There is a cast of the Baryonyx skeleton on display in the dinosaur gallery at the museum.

Baryonyx walkeri

Named and formally described in 1986, Baryonyx changed perceptions regarding spinosaurids. The scientific paper was published in “Nature”. It was entitled “Baryonyx, a remarkable new theropod dinosaur”. The authors of the paper were Alan Charig and Angela Milner. Both palaeontologists had distinguished careers. Alan Charig helped to popularise the science of vertebrate palaeontology when he wrote and presented the BBC television series “Before the Ark”. However, it is probably for their work on Baryonyx walkeri that they will be best remembered.

The Baryonyx Fossil Jaw

The Baryonyx fossil jaw cast shows the premaxilla and the anterior portion of the maxilla. The holotype specimen includes a significant amount of skull and jaw material including both dentaries. Thanks to the skull and jaw fossils, scientists were able to reconstruct the skull of other spinosaurids such as Spinosaurus aegyptiacus.

A spokesperson from Everything Dinosaur commented.

“When we visit the London Natural History Museum, we like to view the Baryonyx exhibit. The fossils helped improve our understanding regarding theropod dinosaurs. The Baryonyx material representing about 65% of the entire skeleton still represents one of the most complete large theropod skeletons found in Europe.”

Carnotaurus sastrei

Carnotaurus (C. sastrei) was formally named and described in 1985. Fossils of this large theropod had been found the previous year. The extensive skeletal material consisted of the anterior portion of a single individual animal estimated to measure around 7.5 to 8 metres in length. It was described by the late José Bonaparte.

Since the discovery of Carnotaurus, many more South American abelisaurids have been named and described.

Commenting on the video a spokesperson from Everything Dinosaur explained that the video was not an unboxing or model review.

The spokesperson added:

“There are lots of really good model reviews already out there. We prefer to use our YouTube channel to highlight models as they come back into stock. It is our intention to produce a wide variety of YouTube video content. We have plans for some brief videos, under a minute in length, as well as longer videos that provide more product information.”
