By |2024-01-02T20:29:10+00:00June 23rd, 2023|Categories: Adobe CS5, Dinosaur Fans, Everything Dinosaur Products, Main Page, Photos of Everything Dinosaur Products|0 Comments

Another Friday and another busy day packing orders for Everything Dinosaur customers. We had been emailed by a customer asking for a photograph of the CollectA Deluxe Velociraptor 1/6th scale model. The customer requested that we confirm that the figure in stock on our website was indeed the genuine article. We were happy to email over some photographs. There was time to take a close-up view of this scale dinosaur model.

One of the first dinosaur models made by CollectA was a small, grey-coloured Velociraptor figure. A Deluxe 1:6 scale Velociraptor was added to the company’s scale model range in 2011. This hand-painted replica measures approximately 32 cm in length. It has a head height of 12 cm. The CollectA Deluxe Velociraptor is supplied with an Everything Dinosaur Velociraptor mongoliensis fact sheet.

The CollectA Deluxe Velociraptor

Velociraptor is a popular prehistoric animal. It tends to feature in the top five of Everything Dinosaur’s surveys. Its popularity used to be down to its appearances in the “Jurassic Park/Jurassic World” films. However, more recently a feathered, bird-like Velociraptor has been a star of the “Prehistoric Planet” television series (Apple+ TV).

Exclusive News – Rebor “Tyrannosaurus rex Vanilla Ice” Mountain Retired

By |2024-01-02T20:34:56+00:00June 10th, 2023|Categories: Dinosaur Fans, Everything Dinosaur News and Updates, Everything Dinosaur Products, Main Page, Photos of Everything Dinosaur Products, Press Releases|0 Comments

The Rebor “Tyrannosaurus rex Vanilla Ice” Mountain replica has been withdrawn from production. A source close to Everything Dinosaur has confirmed that this Tyrannosaurus rex figure has been retired. The model represented a version of a tyrannosaur popularised by the 2005 King Kong film.

Rebor 1:35 scale ““Tyrannosaurus rex Vanilla Ice”

Originally introduced in the autumn of 2018, the Rebor “Tyrannosaurus rex Vanilla Ice” in the mountain colour scheme proved extremely popular with dinosaur fans and model collectors. It had a counterpart, the “jungle” version. This too, also proved popular amongst fans of prehistoric animal figures.

The picture (above), shows the Rebor 1/35th scale model “Tyrannosaurus rex” Vanilla Ice Mountain displayed on the Rebor “Summer Kisses” display base.

A spokesperson from Everything Dinosaur commented:

“Models do get retired occasionally. When a model is retired it allows the factory time to produce new figures and replicas. As products get retired, it permits new models to be developed and enter the product range.”

Rebor has produced a wide variety of Tyrannosaurus rex models. The company has been creating models that reflect how T. rex is portrayed in films. Other replicas named “Retrosaurs” reflect earlier film depictions of theropod dinosaurs.

Recently, Rebor introduced the Rebor Tyrannosaurus rex “KISS” Mountain version, a tyrannosaur with lips. This figure also had a counterpart “TUSK” that depicted T. rex as a dinosaur without lips.

Everything Dinosaur Features in Special Blog Post

By |2024-01-02T20:34:38+00:00June 9th, 2023|Categories: Dinosaur Fans, Everything Dinosaur Products, Main Page, Photos of Everything Dinosaur Products, Photos/Pictures of Fossils, Press Releases|0 Comments

Everything Dinosaur team members have been featured in a blog article posted by a fossil collector and organiser of guided fossil walks at Lyme Regis. Brandon Lennon wrote about the ammonite figures that we supplied him. These models make excellent teaching resources when explaining about the creatures that the Lyme Regis ammonite fossils represent.

We spotted a Bullyland ammonite model being used to help illustrate a display of ammonite fossils. Ammonite replicas are often purchased by fossil hunters.

Ammonite Models

Ammonite models supplied by Everything Dinosaur can be spotted in museums. Palaeontologists use them in their science outreach work. Fossil collectors like to display the models next to ammonite fossils.

The Bullyland, large ammonite model is a popular choice amongst palaeontologists and fossil collectors.

To view the Bullyland range of prehistoric animal figures: Bullyland Prehistoric Animal Figures and Models.

Brandon Lennon leads guided fossil walks in the Lyme Regis and Charmouth areas. These walks are extremely well attended, and Brandon uses the ammonite figures to help explain a little about these enigmatic cephalopods.

The blog article states:

“Thanks to Mike and Sue at Everything Dinosaur! I received a great parcel from them that will help me no end on the Jurassic Coast fossil walks! They have provided some ammonite models to show the morphology of an ammonite with! The Bullyland ammonite proves helpful when it comes to explaining how fossils are interpreted and a “living” animal reconstructed. See everythingdinosaur1 for its amazing array of educational models they are on Instagram. See the ammonite models on their Instagram page and much, much more!”

The New CollectA Brighstoneus Model

By |2024-01-02T20:34:21+00:00June 8th, 2023|Categories: Adobe CS5, Dinosaur Fans, Everything Dinosaur Products, Main Page, Photos of Everything Dinosaur Products, Press Releases|0 Comments

Our thanks to Dr Jeremy Lockwood who sent into Everything Dinosaur a picture of him holding his recently acquired CollectA Brighstoneus model. Dr Lockwood was one of the authors of the scientific paper which named and described this new herbivorous dinosaur from the Isle of Wight.

Brighstoneus simmondsi

Formally named and scientifically described in November 2021 (Lockwood, Martill and Maidment), Brighstoneus simmondsi demonstrates that these types of dinosaurs were more diverse than previously thought. Prior to this research, Early Cretaceous hadrosauriform fossils associated with the Wealden Group were placed into either the robust Iguanodon genus or the more lightly built Mantellisaurus taxon.

To read our blog post about the discovery of Brighstoneus: New Dinosaur Genus from the Isle of Wight.

The CollectA Brighstoneus Model

The fossil material had been thought to represent Mantellisaurus. However, Dr Lockwood identified unique traits within the fossils (autapomorphies), that led to the erection of this new hadrosauriform taxon.

CollectA were quick to start development work on a Brighstoneus dinosaur model. Under the guidance of Anthony Beeson, the figure was designed and created. Sadly, Anthony passed away before his Brighstoneus model could be launched.

Commenting on the CollectA figure, Dr Lockwood stated:

“Thank you for the models. Attached is a photo of me with the model at Dinosaur Isle Museum.”

A spokesperson from Everything Dinosaur commented:

“We had been contacted by a relative of Dr Lockwood, prior to the model’s introduction. We were happy to set aside the figures so that Dr Lockwood could receive a replica of a dinosaur he helped name and describe. It is wonderful to be able to supply these figures to scientists so they can use them to help inform the public and explain important scientific discoveries.”

Assembling the New Rebor Diplodocus Models

By |2024-03-09T15:53:33+00:00June 7th, 2023|Categories: Adobe CS5, Dinosaur Fans, Everything Dinosaur Products, Main Page, Photos of Everything Dinosaur Products, Press Releases|0 Comments

The Rebor Diplodocus models recently arrived at the Everything Dinosaur warehouse. Team members have been busy picking, packing and despatching orders. These Diplodocus carnegii models require assembly. The neck and tail pieces have to be inserted into the body. Here are some helpful tips and advice to help you assemble your Rebor dinosaur model.

The new for 2023 Rebor Diplodocus carnegii dinosaur models are supplied in three parts. Each figure has a neck, and a tail piece and these need to be inserted into the main body. Picture credit: Everything Dinosaur.

Use Hot Water/Hair Dryer

The white plugs on the end of the neck piece and tail piece can be heated and this will help them to slot into the main body of the Diplodocus. A hairdryer can be used to gently warm up the plastic plug. Heating the plastic makes it more malleable. It should be easier to slot the neck and tail pieces into position.

Alternatively, the plug can be dipped into a cup of boiling water. Quickly dry the plug and then insert it into the body. Please take care when using hot water.

Assembling the Rebor Diplodocus Models

The plug pieces can be difficult to insert. Please take care when inserting the pieces as you might damage the delicate raised scutes that run along the back of the model.

Try not to force the pieces into place. If the hot water treatment or the hairdryer has not helped, try adding a little oil. Adding a drop of vegetable oil to the white plugs will lubricate them and help them slide into place. Only a little oil is needed, excess squeezed out of the joint can be wiped away.

A spokesperson from Everything Dinosaur commented:

“Sometimes the Rebor models can be tricky to assemble. Try the heating method first, if this does not work, then add a smear of oil to the plugs. Using vegetable oil, olive oil or something similar should do the trick. These are the types of oil used in cooking. You can find them in most kitchens.”

The curators at the Museums Victoria confidently predict that their Triceratops exhibition will exceed one million visitors next month. In an email sent to Everything Dinosaur, the Museums Victoria state that “Triceratops: Fate of the Dinosaurs” will have received over a million visitors by the middle of June 2023.

Triceratops horridus

“Triceratops: Fate of the Dinosaurs” is an immersive voyage into a lost world. Visitors will explore the landscapes of the Late Cretaceous and get to know the prehistoric animals that thrived there. The star exhibit is a specimen of Triceratops horridus. The fossils of this dinosaur were discovered in Montana (2014).

The bones found represent about 87% of the entire skeleton. It is one of the most complete, large dinosaur fossils ever found. The skull and neck frill are the most complete of any known Triceratops specimen (greater than 99% complete). The assembled frill measures over 1.48 metres wide.

One Million Visitors

The exhibition has proved to be extremely popular. Museum staff have predicted that the attraction would have received a million visitors by the middle of next month (June 2023).

To celebrate this milestone, staff will be dressing up as dinosaurs for the day. Visitors to Melbourne Museum, the location of the Triceratops exhibit, will also be encouraged to channel their “inner dinosaur”. Visitors will be invited to come to the museum in dinosaur fancy dress. According to the correspondence received by Everything Dinosaur, spot prizes will be offered for the best costumes.

A Triceratops Exhibit

The Triceratops skeleton has been nicknamed “Horridus”. The fossils inspired CollectA to create a 1:40 scale Triceratops horridus figure.

Popular Papo Running T. rex Model Spotted at Museum

By |2024-01-02T06:47:49+00:00May 23rd, 2023|Categories: Adobe CS5, Dinosaur Fans, Everything Dinosaur Products, Main Page, Photos of Everything Dinosaur Products|0 Comments

The Papo running T. rex dinosaur model was spotted by a sharp-eyed team member of Everything Dinosaur whilst on a visit to a local museum. The popular Papo dinosaur figure was in a display case next to a replica claw and a replica tooth of a Tyrannosaurus rex. The Papo running T. rex model was helping museum visitors to get an impression of what this huge theropod might have looked like.

The model in the display case is not a scale dinosaur model. It does help to demonstrate the size of the claw and the T. rex tooth. This Papo running T. rex figure measures 33 centimetres long.

The Papo Running T. rex Dinosaur Model

The Papo running T. rex dinosaur model was introduced into the Papo “Les Dinosaures” range in 2012. Since its introduction, it has sold well and been a firm favourite amongst model collectors. It is one of several T. rex models in the Papo range.

A brown coloured version was also introduced. This was a limited-edition figure. The limited-edition figure was withdrawn from sale after a few months. Everything Dinosaur lobbied Papo and the model was re-introduced. The brown running T. rex figure is available from Everything Dinosaur.

To view the Everything Dinosaur YouTube video review of the Papo running T. rex: Papo Green running T. rex YouTube Video Review.

Dinosaur Models in Museums

A spokesperson from Everything Dinosaur commented that whilst the Papo figure may not be the most accurate figure of a T. rex, the model helps to contextualise the museum display.

Children seeing the familiar dinosaur model in a museum display can make the link between the toys that they play with and the actual animals that the model represents.

The spokesperson added:

“Children were excited to see the T. rex exhibit. Many also recognised the Papo dinosaur model. Hopefully, they can make a connection between toys and fossils.”

New PNSO Mila the Mapusaurus is Reviewed

By |2024-03-09T15:54:37+00:00May 14th, 2023|Categories: Dinosaur Fans, Everything Dinosaur Products, Main Page, Photos of Everything Dinosaur Products, Product Reviews|0 Comments

Our thanks to model collector and dinosaur fan William who sent into Everything Dinosaur a review of the Mila the Mapusaurus dinosaur model. The Mapusaurus figure is one of several carcharodontosaurid models offered by PNSO.

William emailed Everything Dinosaur and explained that Mila arrived along with the new Lucas 2.0 Giganotosaurus model and Mungo the Meraxes.

The reviewer commented:

“All together an impressive trio of titans from the Southern Hemisphere”.

PNSO Mila the Mapusaurus

William explained that with the discovery of the Meraxes fossil material palaeontologists had a better understanding of carcharodontosaurid cranium anatomy. The head of the Mapusaurus model was described as being well-defined with prominent lacrimal crests and a nasal ridge.

The detailing around the eyes and the skin folds associated with the head sculpt were praised.

PNSO Mila the Mapusaurus.
The PNSO Mila the Mapusaurus dinosaur model.

William explained that the majority of the theropod figures supplied by PNSO have articulated jaws. He highlighted the detailing around the jaws including the roof of the mouth.

Reviewing the Model’s Body

The powerful neck is mentioned, and the point made about the completeness of the holotype fossil material aiding the carcharodontosaurid design. The similarity between carcharodontosaurid body plans is noted and the skin folds and texture praised.

William stated:

“From tip to tip every inch of Mila is an example of how to do a proper dinosaur figure. Even the cloaca is spot on.”

A trio of carcharodontosaurids. The new PNSO Giganotosaurus model in 1:35 scale along with the PNSO Mapusaurus and Meraxes figures.

The Mapusaurus Limbs

The reduced forelimbs on the figure are examined. They were reduced in members of the Carcharodontosauridae. The reduction in size is not as extreme as within the abelisaurids or Tyrannosauridae. The reviewer explained that the highly detailed hands had three fingers. Each finger displayed a large claw, with the middle finger the largest of the three.

When referring to the hind legs, William commented:

“Mila’s hindlimbs are superbly sculpted with ripples and hints of veins. Each foot has three superb toes.”

The reviewer comments on the body colour and praised the combination of grey with a hint of rose pink. The colour scheme is a homage to the rosy, pink rocks associated with the holotype fossil material and honours Rose Letwin a sponsor of the excavation project.

The wide, charcoal stripes are highlighted, and the reviewer contrasts the Mapusaurus with other PNSO theropod figures.

Concluding his review William states:

“To the touch you can feel the fine detailing of the scales and the small scutes, the ripples folds and muscles are all very pleasing.”

Providing Details About the Dinosaur

As with previous reviews, William provides model measurements.

Scale: 1:35.
Length: 14.2 inches.
Height: 4.2 inches.

He also explains that the PNSO Mila the Mapusaurus dinosaur model is supplied with a transparent support stand. An information booklet and a colour poster are also included.

Time Period:
Late Cretaceous 93.9–89.6 Million Years (Cenomanian faunal stage of the Late Cretaceous)
Location: Argentina Province of Neuquén Cañadón del Gato.

Discovery:
Over a period four years from 1997-2001 the Mapusaurus holotype was recovered by an Argentinian-Canadian Dinosaur Project. The holotype was described and named in 2006 by renowned palaeontologists Rodolfo Coria and Phil Currie.

Classifying the Dinosaur (PNSO Mila the Mapusaurus)

William also provided information on the taxonomy of Mapusaurus roseae.

Classification:
Clade: Theropoda
Superfamily: Allosauroidea
Clade: Carcharodontosauria.
Family: Carcharodontosauridae.
Subfamily: Giganotosaurini.
Genus: Mapusaurus.
Species: roseae.

He estimated that this theropod weighed around five tonnes and measured between thirty-six and forty feet in length.

Mapusaurus co-existed with several other theropods including Skorpiovenator and Ilokelesia.

Concluding his review William stated:

“All the PNSO Charcharodontosauridae figures are worthy of a place in any novice or serious collectorscollection. They are outstanding in every way.”

Our thanks to William for sending in his PNSO Mila the Mapusaurus dinosaur model review.
