Everything Dinosaur’s Customer Newsletter – Rebor Replicas

“Summer Kisses” and “Winter Tears” are the first, bespoke diorama bases to be introduced into Rebor’s extensive model range. They contain amazing detail and the tree stump featured on the bases provides extra support and stability for Rebor replicas. To read about these exciting new additions: Looking at “Winter Tears” and “Summer Kisses”.

Please note, the outer packaging for these figures has been damaged in transit to our warehouse. Whilst we have opened, inspected and checked all the display bases, unfortunately the outer packaging for the Rebor Non-scale Diorama bases is below the standard one would normally expect.

Rebor T. rex Models “Kiss” and “Tusk”

Also prominent in Everything Dinosaur’s customer newsletter are the two new Rebor Tyrannosaurus rex models “Kiss” and “Tusk”. The “Kiss” T. rex figure has been given lips, whilst “Tusk” reflects a more conventional view with T. rex being lipless and having an overbite.

Both newly introduced theropod replicas have proved to be extremely popular with model collectors.

A Special Sinopliosaurus Drawing

By |2024-03-19T16:51:57+00:00September 24th, 2022|Categories: Dinosaur and Prehistoric Animal Drawings, Dinosaur Fans, Everything Dinosaur News and Updates, Everything Dinosaur Products, Main Page, Press Releases|0 Comments

Everything Dinosaur has commissioned a Sinopliosaurus drawing as they prepare for the arrival of the PNSO Sinopliosaurus dinosaur model later in the autumn. The Sinopliosaurus illustration will be used in a free fact sheet that team members intend to send out with product sales.

Resolving Taxonomy and Size Issues

It is our intention to produce a scale drawing of this putative spinosaurid. This in itself is quite a challenge as the fossils ascribed to this theropod have had a long and complicated taxonomic history. In addition, the size of this Chinese member of the Spinosauridae remains unknown, such is the fragmentary nature of the fossil material. If Sinopliosaurus (S. fusuiensis) is a synonym for Siamosaurus, the first reported and formally scientifically described spinosaurid from Asia* then size estimates would range between five and in excess of nine metres in length.

PNSO Chongzuo the Sinopliosaurus dinosaur model.
PNSO are adding a second member of the Spinosauridae family to their mid-size model range. Joining Essien the Spinosaurus is Chongzuo the Sinopliosaurus. This figure is due to be in stock at Everything Dinosaur in the late autumn (2022). Team members are researching and writing a fact sheet for this theropod dinosaur.

Siamosaurus suteethorni was named and described in 1986 (Éric Buffetaut and Rucha Ingavat), the absence of more substantial and complete fossil material, especially skull material has made estimating the potential size of these Early Cretaceous theropod dinosaurs extremely difficult.

Sinopliosaurus Drawing

A spokesperson from Everything Dinosaur commented:

“We congratulate PNSO for adding a replica of such an enigmatic Chinese fossil specimen to their Age of Dinosaurs mid-size model range. Whilst we welcome the introduction of some of the less well-known theropods, the addition of the Sinopliosaurus has given us a headache when it comes to researching and producing the free fact sheet on this dinosaur. However, we are confident that we will be able to rise to the challenge and anyway, we could always consult our customers and get their input on this matter.”

The PNSO Chongzuo the Sinopliosaurus is expected in stock at Everything Dinosaur later in the autumn, perhaps early to mid-November (2022).

The Rebor Summer Kisses Winter Tears diorama bases are in stock at Everything Dinosaur. Two fantastic prehistoric animal display bases. These are the first, bespoke diorama bases to have been made by Rebor and as their names suggest each base depicts the same landscape but in a different season. The Winter Tears base depicts an arid environment typical of the dry season, whilst Summer Kisses is verdant and lush, illustrating a landscape after recent rains.

Suitable for Lots of Different Dinosaurs

The two beautifully painted diorama display bases can be used with a huge range of dinosaur and prehistoric animal figures. For example, team members posed a Rebor Vanilla Ice tyrannosaur figure on a base. This theropod model, one that was introduced by Rebor in 2018, looks very much at home on both Winter Tears and Summer Kisses.

Lots of Details on the Bases

Each base has lots of detail, including stones and plenty of small sticks. A large tree stump towards the rear of each base provides additional support for any prehistoric figure that is to be displayed. Both Summer Kisses and Winter Tears are made from durable polystone and there is plenty of space amongst the debris to position a prehistoric animal figure securely.

New for 2022 Rebor Tyrannosaurus rex figures in stock at Everything Dinosaur. The Rebor T. rex Kiss Mountain and the Rebor T. rex Tusk King T. rex Requiem figures have arrived at Everything Dinosaur’s warehouse. The “Kiss” figure has been given lips, whilst the “Tusk” replica has a more typical overbite as seen in earlier Rebor tyrannosaurs.

Rebor T. rex Tusk King T. rex Requiem Model

The Rebor T. rex figure called Tusk (T. rex Tusk King T. rex Requiem) has a colouration superficially similar to the original Rebor King T. rex, which was the second tyrannosauroid model to be made by Rebor. It has an articulated jaw and moveable arms, but depicts this iconic tyrannosaur without lips. Tusk is the same size and scale as the Kiss figure.

Such is the stability of these excellent theropods, that they were able to be placed on the office carpet without the need of the clear, plastic support that is supplied with these figures.

A Special Patagotitan Scale Drawing

By |2024-04-13T08:59:18+01:00September 18th, 2022|Categories: Dinosaur and Prehistoric Animal Drawings, Everything Dinosaur News and Updates, Everything Dinosaur Products, Main Page, Press Releases|0 Comments

Everything Dinosaur has commissioned a Patagotitan scale drawing as the company prepares for the arrive of a Patagotitan model from Safari Ltd. The Wild Safari Prehistoric World Patagotitan replica is due to arrive in stock at Everything Dinosaur in just a few days. This titanosaur figure is a new for 2022 Safari Ltd dinosaur model.

A Scale Drawing of the Huge Titanosaur Patagotitan mayorum

Patagotitan scale drawing.
A scale drawing of the giant titanosaur Patagotitan mayorum commissioned by Everything Dinosaur. This huge dinosaur was estimated to have measured around 35 metres when its fossil bones were initially examined. When Patagotitan was formally named and scientifically described its body size and weight was reduced slightly. However, a reconstructed, life-size skeleton was built measuring 37.2 metres in length. Picture credit: Everything Dinosaur.

Wild Safari Prehistoric World Patagotitan Model

Fortunately for Everything Dinosaur’s packing team, the Wild Safari Prehistoric World Patagotitan model is not a life-size replica. At more than thirty metres in length, this dinosaur could just about fit inside our warehouse, but it would be a tight squeeze.

The model is quite sizeable it measures a fraction over 38 cm in length, which if you consider the replica as a scale model, it would have a scale ratio of around 1:100.

Giant Dinosaur Fossils

Giant fossils of at least seven individual titanosaurs were discovered in southern Argentina in 2014. After an extensive study, this dinosaur was finally named in 2017. Perhaps one of the largest land animals to have ever lived, the binomial scientific name is Patagotitan mayorum. The name translates as “the Mayo family’s Patagonian titan”, as the fossils were found on the Mayo ranch in Patagonia.

Beasts of the Mesozoic Models on Display

A pair of Beasts of the Mesozoic articulated dinosaur models on display in a carefully selected garden setting. The Albertaceratops and Psittacosaurus models look very photogenic. Our thanks to Caldey who sent into Everything Dinosaur some photographs of the latest additions to her prehistoric animal model collection.

Beasts of the Mesozoic Albertaceratops model
The Beasts of the Mesozoic Albertaceratops dinosaur model. The photographer has taken great care to ensure that the foliage included in the shot looks in proportion to this large dinosaur. Picture credit: Caldey.

Taking advantage of a sunny day, Caldey took some of her new acquisitions out into the garden to take some photographs. She carefully selected appropriate backdrops, wanting to shoot images of vegetation that gave an impression of scale and size. The choice of plants included in the pictures was important to Caldey, she wanted to include plants and other foliage that might be in keeping with the ancient environments that these dinosaurs lived in.

For the Albertaceratops, which roamed North America during the Late Cretaceous approximately 78-76 million years ago (Campanian faunal stage of the Cretaceous), this task was not too onerous. Albertaceratops would have been familiar with many of the plants and trees commonly found in gardens today. However, for the Psittacosaurus, selecting a suitable background could be a little more challenging.

Beasts of the Mesozoic Psittacosaurus dinosaur model.
The Beasts of the Mesozoic Psittacosaurus model goes for a stroll in the garden. Picture credit: Caldey.

Psittacosaurus is known from the Early Cretaceous. This dinosaur having a much wider geographical distribution when compared to the distantly related Albertaceratops. It also had a much larger temporal range. Caldey has selected a background with fewer angiosperms (flowering plants), which is in keeping with the palaeoenvironment associated with the Psittacosaurus genus.

Our thanks to Caldey for sending into Everything Dinosaur her carefully conceived dinosaur photographs.

New Triceratops horridus Model Reviewed

By |2024-03-09T17:07:51+00:00September 14th, 2022|Categories: Adobe CS5, Dinosaur Fans, Everything Dinosaur Products, Main Page, Photos of Everything Dinosaur Products, Product Reviews|0 Comments

Team members at Everything Dinosaur have been most impressed with the new for 2022 CollectA deluxe 1:40 scale Triceratops horridus dinosaur model. This new, horned dinosaur figure is largely based on the fossil specimen nicknamed “Horridus” which is on display at Melbourne Museum (Victoria, Australia).

Triceratops horridus

The Museums Victoria Triceratops fossils, representing some 87% of the bones from an individual animal, were excavated from Upper Cretaceous (Hell Creek Formation) deposits in Montana (USA). The bones from the tail (caudal vertebrae) were almost all present, and for the first time palaeontologists were able to accurately re-create the tail of this iconic dinosaur. The CollectA Deluxe 1:40 scale Triceratops figure reflects the data, and the tail is in proportion with the rest of the dinosaur model.

In addition, the excellent condition of the skull bones and the frill of this dinosaur enabled the design team at CollectA to accurately reconstruct the head of a Triceratops. The Montana specimen has the most complete skull and neck frill of any Triceratops found to date. The bones make up more than 99% of the skull skeletal material. CollectA have been able to use this skeleton to accurately depict the head and the neck frill on their dinosaur model.

The Skin of a Triceratops

The beautifully detailed skin of the CollectA T. horridus model is based on a second Triceratops fossil nicknamed “Lane” from the Lance Formation. These fossils (specimen number BHI-6273) include stunning skin impressions that indicate that Triceratops had a skin like no other known ornithishcian. Triceratops was covered in large scales, many of which were hexagonal in shape. In addition, this dinosaur had raised, conical tubercles embedded in its skin some of which were over 10 cm in diameter.

Triceratops model skin texture.

No formal scientific paper has been published yet on the skin of “three-horned face”. These fossils are on display at the Houston Museum of Natural Science (Texas).

Team members at Everything Dinosaur congratulate CollectA for creating such a magnificent Triceratops horridus dinosaur model.

The new for 2022 CollectA Deluxe 1:40 scale Triceratops horridus dinosaur model is now in stock at Everything Dinosaur. This dinosaur scale model is based on the most complete T. horridus fossil specimen known to science. The fossils, excavated from Hell Creek Formation deposits in Montana (USA), are now part of a major, permanent dinosaur exhibition at Melbourne Museum (Victoria, Australia).

CollectA Deluxe 1:40 scale Triceratops horridus

The CollectA Deluxe 1:40 scale Triceratops horridus is the last of the new for 2022 figures to arrive at Everything Dinosaur and continues a recent trend to have new CollectA figures named after a specific species and not a genus.

Another new for 2022 figure, the pterosaur model Pteranodon sternbergi, which came into stock at Everything Dinosaur a few months ago, also represents a distinct species. This model was introduced in this format to distinguish it from the Pteranodon (P. longiceps) in 1:15 scale.

Accurately Depicting the Head and Neck of a Triceratops

The exhibit at Melbourne Museum is entitled “Triceratops: Fate of the Dinosaurs” and the Triceratops skeleton upon which this exhibition is based has been appropriately nicknamed “Horridus”. The design team at CollectA were able to use the fossilised skull of this dinosaur to help them accurately depict the head and the neck shield of this iconic ceratopsian.

The skull and neck frill of “Horridus” are the most complete of any known Triceratops specimen (more than 99% complete) and the assembled frill measures nearly 1.5 metres wide.

An Articulated Lower Jaw

A spokesperson from Everything Dinosaur confirmed that this new CollectA figure had an articulated lower jaw. The jaw can be a little stiff and it does not open very wide. To ease the jaw, the head can be dipped into hot water for 2-3 seconds to help ease the movement of this articulated component of the model.

The spokesperson from Everything Dinosaur added:

“The Triceratops horridus figure was one of the dinosaurs designed by the late Anthony Beeson. Anthony had explained to Everything Dinosaur how keen he was to create an updated Triceratops, a figure with skin texture reminiscent of recent fossil discoveries. He was very excited at the possibility of combining the evidence, on T. horridus skin texture, some of which remains unpublished, with the new anatomical details revealed by the Melbourne Museum specimen.”

This year, (2022) PNSO added a replica of the Early Cretaceous theropod dinosaur Acrocanthosaurus to their popular mid-size model range. Say hello, to PNSO Fergus the Acrocanthosaurus. It is a wonderful replica of a member of the Carcharodontosauridae known from the United States of America.

A Detailed Dinosaur Model

The figure has been beautifully painted, and it has an articulated lower jaw and a clear, plastic support stand to assist with display. The figure measures over 32 centimetres long, and those skilfully recreated lacrimal crests are some 10.5 cm off the ground. It is a stunning replica of a super-sized predator.

Sci-Art Poster and Colour Booklet

The figure has been so well made that it can stand on a solid, flat surface without the need of the clear, plastic display stand that comes with the dinosaur model. Fergus the Acrocanthosaurus is also supplied with a sci-art poster and a 64-page, fully illustrated colour booklet.

A spokesperson from Everything Dinosaur commented:

“We are delighted that PNSO have added a replica of an Acrocanthosaurus to their mid-size model range. As far as we at Everything Dinosaur are aware, Acrocanthosaurus atokensis is the only member of the Carcharodontosauridae known from the United States. A theropod named and described in 2012 known as Siats meekerorum might be a member of the related family the Neovenatoridae, which along with the Carcharodontosauridae make up the Carcharodontosauria clade, but the taxonomic position of Siats remains uncertain. However, Acrocanthosaurus was an apex predator, and it deserves to be included in the exciting PNSO model range.”
