An Important Announcement for our Customers Based in the USA
On April 2nd, 2025, the President of the United States announced a series of “Reciprocal Tariffs” on goods coming into the United States. The UK has had a blanket levy of 10% placed on all imports into the USA. In addition, further tariffs have been imposed on individual sectors such as the car industry.
Compared to tariffs imposed on other nations, the 10% levy remains relatively modest. Although such tariffs are not welcomed, this level of imposition underscores the fair and balanced trade that has characterised the relationship between UK businesses and the USA. Additionally, it positions the UK as a reliable and fair trading partner in its dealings with the United States.
However, further to the imposition of these tariffs a Presidential Executive Order was published stating that parcels arriving in the USA containing goods from China and Hong Kong will no longer qualify for the $800 USD duty-free de minimis threshold from May 2nd. This Executive Order not only applies to parcels sent from China and Hong Kong but to any parcel sent to the USA which contains items made in China or Hong Kong.
From May 2nd, each parcel will attract a duty of either 30% of the value or $25 USD per item rising to $50 USD per item from 1st June.
Since the majority of dinosaur and prehistoric animal figures are made in China, we foresee that the removal of the $800 USD duty-free de minimis threshold coupled with these new parcel tariffs on goods where the country of origin is China/Hong Kong is going to have a significant impact on sales of such figures to the United States.
It is likely therefore, that the imposition of these new tariffs will lead to substantial price rises for dinosaur and prehistoric animal figures for buyers in the USA.
The global situation remains fluid, and we note the ongoing discussions between governments to reduce and eliminate tariffs.
However, given these new tariffs we at Everything Dinosaur have reluctantly decided to suspend all sales into the USA from noon BST (7am EST) on Tuesday 15th April.
In light of the increased tariffs, we have made the difficult decision to suspend sales to the USA. We will continue to closely monitor the situation, and we hope that these trading issues are quickly resolved.
