The two, new for 2024 Rebor Dire wolves will be coming into stock at Everything Dinosaur shortly. Team members have been informed that the shipment is on its way. The two figures are the 1:11 scale Dire wolf (plain version) and the grey version (Havallagata).

Rebor is introducing a pair of Dire wolves into their model range. One of the figures is the 1:11 scale Dire wolf known as “low roar”. The animal is shown in lateral view.

Rebor Dire Wolves

Each Rebor Dire wolf is supplied with three interchangeable heads. This impressive Pleistocene carnivore can be displayed with the mouth closed, the mouth open or with this fearsome predator snarling. Recently published research (Perri et al 2021), demonstrated that the dire wolf (Aenocyon dirus) was not closely related to the Grey wolf.

The second Rebor A. dirus figure is known as “Havallagata”. It has a grey colouration. It can be displayed as a 1:11 scale Dire wolf model or as a 1:18 scale fantasy wolf figure.

A spokesperson from Everything Dinosaur confirmed that both figures were on their way.

“We do not know quite when these Dire wolves will arrive. However, customers can be assured that as soon as the delivery arrives at our warehouse, we will get these models on-line.”

The spokesperson also confirmed that Everything Dinosaur customers will receive a Dire wolf fact sheet. This fact sheet will be sent out with the dire wolf models. It has been researched and written by Everything Dinosaur team members. It will also include a scale drawing of a Aenocyon dirus.

Creating a New Tlatolophus Scale Drawing

Everything Dinosaur has commissioned a Tlatolophus galorum scale drawing. It will be used on a fact sheet being created that will be sent out with sales of Tlatolophus models. The fact sheet is being prepared as the Haolonggood Tlatolophus figures are due to arrive soon.

Tlatolophus galorum

A beautifully preserved and semi-articulated hadrosaur tail was excavated from Campanian-aged deposits of the Cerro del Pueblo Formation (Coahuila, Mexico). Fieldwork revealed extensive fossil material and this duck-billed dinosaur was formally named and described in 2021 (Ramírez-Velasco et al).

What’s in a Name?

The genus name Tlatolophus is pronounced Tlat-to-lo-fus.

This name is derived from a local dialect (Náhuatl), and it translates as “word”. In addition, the genus name uses the Greek lophos “crest”. The etymology relates to this dinosaur’s head crest being similar to a symbol in the Aztec culture resembling an inverse comma that means “word”.

The species or trivial name honours the philanthropist Jesús Garza Arocha and recognises the assistance of the López family, who helped the palaeontologists by providing food and accommodation during the field seasons.

A spokesperson from Everything Dinosaur commented:

“We will complete the Tlatolophus galorum fact sheet shortly. It will be ready for the arrival of the Haolonggood figures which are expected in about twenty days or so.”

At Everything Dinosaur, we like to help customers. For example, we were contacted by a Rebor model fan who asked whether the Rebor Triceratops Trident King figure could be displayed on a Rebor diorama display base. Two Triceratops models in 1:35 scale were introduced into this range in 2022. Rebor also added two, beautiful model display bases that year. These bases were named “summer kisses” and “winter tears”.

We were happy to take some photographs and send them to the customer.

We selected the “summer kisses” display base for our Triceratops Trident King model. The display bases are sold as a pair. They each measure twenty centimetres in length and are twelve and a half centimetres wide. The stunning tree stump on the base is around nine centimetres high. Several photographs were emailed to the customer, each one providing a different view of the Triceratops figure on the display base.

The Schleich Stegosaurus (2024)

Schleich have chosen to give their new ornithischian figure an extremely scaly skin. Schleich prehistoric animal models are known for their tactile qualities. The design team have worked hard on creating the model’s texture. The elaborate, multi-layered plates on the back of the model are intriguing. However, we don’t think these plates are scientifically accurate.

Stegosaurus is Popular

Schleich have produced several versions of Stegosaurus over the years. This armoured dinosaur is extremely popular with children. It regularly appears in the top five of our surveys examining the popularity of prehistoric animals.

A spokesperson from Everything Dinosaur commented:

“We are looking forward to receiving the new Schleich Stegosaurus. It will be stock at Everything Dinosaur very soon. The Stegosaurus joins the new for 2024 Schleich figures that are already in our warehouse. We expect the new colour version of the Schleich Brachiosaurus, the red Brachiosaurus model will arrive at the same time as the Schleich Stegosaurus.”

Carnotaurus sastrei

This large theropod was named and described in 1985 by José Fernando Bonaparte. Bonaparte was an extremely influential figure in the development of palaeontology in South America. He is responsible for the scientific description of numerous dinosaurs from Patagonia, and he inspired a new generation of Argentinian palaeontologists.

The Carnotaurus illustration was inspired by the CollectA Deluxe 1:40 scale Carnotaurus sastrei figure. This popular dinosaur model was introduced in 2019.

Everything Dinosaur Fact Sheets

A spokesperson for Everything Dinosaur explained that for the vast majority of models and figures that the company supplies a free fact sheet about that prehistoric animal is sent out. Hundreds of fact sheets have been researched and written.

The spokesperson added:

“We continue to add to our free fact sheet inventory. The last two new fact sheets we introduced were for the tyrannosaur Alectrosaurus and the South American theropod Megaraptor namunhuaiquii. We commission illustrations of prehistoric animals such as Carnotaurus and this drawing will be used to update the scale drawing on our Carnotaurus fact sheet.”

Spotting an Ammonite Fossil at a Trade Fair

By |2024-02-06T22:05:42+00:00February 2nd, 2024|Educational Activities, Everything Dinosaur Products, Geology, Main Page, Photos/Pictures of Fossils, Press Releases|0 Comments

Team members at Everything Dinosaur recently visited the Spielwarenmesse trade fair in Germany. Many of the buildings in this part of Bavaria are constructed from limestone. The limestone dates from the Jurassic and is highly fossiliferous. Whilst walking between the halls of the Spielwarenmesse on our way to another meeting, we spotted an ammonite fossil in the stone floor,

Looking for an Ammonite Fossil

Numerous fossils can be spotted entombed in the polished stone floors of the vast Messezentrum Nuremberg which hosts the international toy fair. Belemnites, bivalves and oyster shells are common. Ammonites tend to be a little rarer, but there are still plenty to see.

A spokesperson from Everything Dinosaur explained that many municipal buildings in and around Nuremberg were built from limestone that contains lots of fossils. The sediments that went onto form the limestone were Upper Jurassic in age.

The spokesperson added:

“Nuremberg airport is famous for its fossils. It is always intriguing to see what we can spot in the floor tiles as we wait to board an aeroplane.

Tyrannosaur Figures Feature in New Customer Newsletter

By |2024-01-30T07:27:25+00:00January 28th, 2024|Adobe CS5, Dinosaur Fans, Everything Dinosaur Newsletters, Everything Dinosaur Products, Main Page, Press Releases|0 Comments

The seven, new for 2024 Beast of the Mesozoic tyrannosaurs are featured in the latest Everything Dinosaur customer newsletter. The latest Beasts of the Mesozoic tyrannosaur shipment arrived late last week. Team members at Everything Dinosaur have been busy contacting all those customers who wanted to be informed.

A newsletter was also emailed to the company’s subscriber list.

New Beasts of the Mesozoic Tyrannosaurs

The new articulated figures feature different members of the Tyrannosauroidea superfamily. The model representing the geologically oldest theropod is the Eotyrannus figure (Eotyrannus lengi). Eotyrannus fossils are associated with Lower Cretaceous deposits. All six of the other new tyrannosaur figures represent dinosaurs from the Late Cretaceous.

Late Cretaceous Tyrannosaurs

The majority of the new tyrannosaur figures represent predators from either the Maastrichtian or Campanian faunal stages of the Late Cretaceous. Perhaps, one of the geologically youngest tyrannosaurs in this new wave of models would be Tarbosaurus (T. bataar). This Asian tyrannosaur is thought to have lived around seventy million years ago.

Alectrosaurus and Albertosaurus

The latest Everything Dinosaur customer newsletter highlighted two other new theropod figures. Alectrosaurus (A. olseni) fossils come from the Iren Dabasu Formation of Inner Mongolia. The date of this formation remains controversial. Some palaeontologists have suggested that this fast-running tyrannosaur may have roamed China approximately ninety million years ago.

In contrast, Albertosaurus (A. sarcophagus) fossils roamed Canada many millions of years later. The fossils of Albertosaurus sarcophagus seem to be confined to the Canadian province of Alberta. A second potential and coeval Albertosaurus may have been present further south (Mexico).
