Everything Dinosaur Provides a New Company Biography

It might not feel like spring at the moment.  However, by the meteorological calendar, today, March the 1st is the first day of spring.  The days are certainly getting longer, but it is still chilly, especially in the Everything Dinosaur warehouse.  Not to worry, with all the deliveries scheduled for next week, we are going to be busy.  Eofauna, PNSO, Haolonggood and possibly Beasts of the Mesozoic are all due to arrive shortly.

Sue has been busy tidying in the warehouse.  It is important that we make room for all the new stock.  The warehouse is getting a spring clean.  However, it is very tidy and well organised already.  A tidy warehouse helps us to pick, pack and despatch orders quickly.  However, we do have other important tasks.  For example, we have been asked to provide a short biography of the company.  We are happy to oblige.

Providing an Everything Dinosaur Biography

It can be a challenge writing about your own business.  Fortunately, we were able to brainstorm some ideas and make plenty of notes.

We are a multi-award-winning company that specialises in the sale of museum quality prehistoric animal models. Established in 2005, the company is run by people who enjoy sharing their passion for the past with fellow collectors and model fans.

The business is based in Cheshire (UK), and it has developed a worldwide customer base. Everything Dinosaur also supplies museums, events, attractions and educational bodies with dinosaur and prehistoric animal themed merchandise.  Customers are at the very centre of everything we do.

Let’s Challenge Ourselves to Learn Something New Every Day

Mike and Sue from Everything Dinosaur visited the Spring Fair in Birmingham.  It is an enormous trade show, the UK’s biggest home, gift and fashion retail event.  The pair had several meetings to attend.  However, they did have the opportunity to wander the halls and visit some of the trade stands.  After all, they were on the hunt for dinosaur related merchandise.

They found a children’s game entitled “So, you think you’re an expert – dinosaurs”.  We might know a little about the Dinosauria, but we are always amazed by the incredible knowledge that many children have about prehistoric animals.

As Mike happily confesses:

“I spend my life being corrected by budding young palaeontologists.”

Examining the children’s quiz game made Mike and Sue think.  It is important to recognise your limits, even in areas that you may feel confident in.  Just like the incredible Dinosauria, we can be powerful in our areas of expertise, but there is always more to learn and discover.  Every day is a school day!

Embracing the idea that we don’t know everything opens the door to growth and collaboration.  It can be helpful to challenge yourself.  Try to learn something new every day and acknowledge that expertise is a journey, not a destination.

Everything Dinosaur Interviewed and Aiming to Inspire Other Business Owners

It has been a busy week!  Sue has been interviewed by the German newspaper Der Spiegel.  Fortunately, for her, the interview was in English. Sue does not speak German, her language skills are “nicht gut”.  As a co-founder of Everything Dinosaur, Sue was sharing her perspective on the challenges and triumphs faced by small businesses in the UK.  After all, the retail environment is always changing.

Everything Dinosaur is renowned for its high-quality prehistoric animal models.  Der Spiegel were keen to hear more about the company and how we export.

Sue highlighted the resilience of small enterprises amidst economic fluctuations. Furthermore, she explained how the company has embraced on-line sales and social media to reach a broader audience. Steffen had travelled up from London to meet Sue and her colleague Mike.  He spent the afternoon hearing about the trials and tribulations of the dinosaur model market.  These days, there is a lot of bureaucracy and red tape.  Sue highlighted the systems and processes that have been put in place that permit the company to send parcels to model collectors overseas.

Sue commented:

Special Reservation of New Haolonggood Brachiosaurus Models

Tomorrow, Monday 13th January we will be finalising our order for the Haolonggood Brachiosaurus models with the factory.  If you have not contacted us to reserve a model or two, this is your last chance to do so.

There are three colour variant Brachiosaurus figures to choose from:

  • HLG157 Song Wan (mostly brown coloured).
  • HLG158 Du Qian (mostly green coloured).
  • The special colour version (HLG159).

As yet we do not know the final price of these magnificent sauropod figures.  However, we do need to sort out our order with the factory.  Customers can email Everything Dinosaur and request a model or models to be reserved.  There is no need to preorder, there is no need to pay a deposit.  Just let us know which one(s) you would like, and we would be happy to set aside a figure or some figures for you.

Haolonggood Brachiosaurus Model

The three models are the same sculpt.  However, they have different colour schemes.  The models measure fifty-nine centimetres long and have a head height of thirty-nine centimetres.  They are magnificent figures, and this batch of Brachiosaurus figures will also include a free Huayangosaurus armoured dinosaur model.

Haolonggood have made several sauropod scale models.  We will have a small contingency reserve of Brachiosaurus figures available.  These will help to support the requirements of our customers that were unable to reserve a figure.

Wonderful Customer Feedback Provided to Everything Dinosaur

Everything Dinosaur receives lots of feedback from customers.  We are grateful for all the feedback we receive.  Each comment from a customer is appreciated.  The UK-based mail order company works with Feefo to generate customer reviews.  Feefo is an independent ratings and reviews platform that collects reliable and constructive reviews.  They have thousands of clients all over the world.  Customer feedback is extremely important.  Having an exceptional service record helps to build confidence with consumers.  Just like Feefo, we have thousands of customers too and we receive hundreds of reviews each year.  For example, there are over two thousand product reviews on the Everything Dinosaur website.

Occasionally, we like to highlight our reviews.  We have such an excellent record for customer service that last year, in a new initiative, Feefo rated Everything Dinosaur as “Exceptional”.

Receiving Customer Feedback

Each day Feefo compiles a list of customers who have placed an order.  A few days later (allowing for shipping and postage), Feefo sends an email to that customer asking for comments about the level of customer care we provide.  Every review is genuine.

Providing Helpful 14+ Safety Information for Customers

Everything Dinosaur team members have been busy translating 14+ product safety information into different languages.  These translations are part of our on-going commitment to assist our customers overseas.  In addition, under the recently introduced General Product Safety Regulation (GPSR), we understand that it is a role of the manufacturer to ensure that all safety information is in a language that the consumer can read.  In the case of the European Union there are twenty-four official languages.

As an importer, it is our role to ensure all safety information is in the correct language.  If the manufacturer does not do this, then, we as the importer can provide the translations and put them into any parcels that we despatch to our customers in those countries covered by GPSR.

Consumers affected by this new regulation are those that reside in countries in the European Union (EU) and Northern Ireland.  In addition, the three countries in the European Economic Area (Iceland, Liechtenstein and Norway) are also included.

Helpful 14+ Product Safety Information Translated

A large number of the prehistoric animal figures that we supply have a 14+ age restriction.  To assist our customers, we have provided a translation of an appropriate safety warning concerning these models in the twenty-four official languages of the European Union.

The phrase we have translated is:

“Warning! Detailed scale model intended for collectors age 14 years and above.  May contain small pieces, sharp edges and points.  14+ (A display piece, not a dinosaur toy).

As part of Everything Dinosaur’s compliance with the EU General Product Safety Regulation 2033/988 safety information has to be translated into the twenty-four official languages of the European Union. The table (above) shows the translation of the phrase associated with prehistoric animal replicas that have a 14+ age recommendation that Everything Dinosaur includes inside the parcel for customers located in the areas within the scope of GPSR.  This information is included within parcels sent to customers in the European Union, the European Economic Area and Northern Ireland.  The table shows the original English text proposed by Everything Dinosaur as the importer and its translation into twelve other languages.

A spokesperson from Everything Dinosaur explained that many manufacturers based outside the European Union were unfamiliar with the new regulation.  As an importer, Everything Dinosaur works closely with factories and manufacturers.  The company provides assistance and support and does what it can to help with compliance.

The spokesperson added:

“We have translated standard 14+ product safety information into the twenty-four official languages of the European Union.  This information will be included in the parcels we despatch to customers in the EU, the EEA as well as Northern Ireland.”
