New Papo Re-painted T. rex (Brown Version)
The Brown coloured variant of the Papo standing T. rex figure is now available from Everything Dinosaur. This re-painted figure will replace the green Tyrannosaurus rex model produced by Papo. Papo had proposed doing what they term a “running change” – selling out of the green version before introducing the new brown model T. rex. At Everything Dinosaur, our close working relationship with Papo has enabled us to be amongst the first in this part of the world to offer this re-painted model.

The Papo “Brown” T. rex Dinosaur Model
Papo Standing T. rex Figure
The model has the same articulated jaws as the original green version that it will eventually replace. A straw poll taken amongst Everything Dinosaur team members this evening suggests that this brown version looks more ferocious! It is a very welcome, new addition to the excellent Papo “Les Dinosaures” model range.
The Tyrannosaurus is great with this new painting, but sorry if I’m wrong but it seems that this has Tyranosaurus jaws finest and most importantly no details on the head that have been improved, so that would replicate better than the last.
The Brown version is exactly the same sculpt as the green Papo T. rex, we refer to these as the standing T. rex to differentiate this model from the running T. rex introduced by Papo a few weeks ago. The model code from Papo is 55001 for both the green and brown versions – the only difference we can spot is in the painting – but we could have missed something.
I just got hold of the brown “repaint”, but actually the skull of the T-rex is slightly remodelled. The crest on the nose is more bony, cheeks bones are more pointier and the lower jaw is completely different, ie slimmer and less developed. Another striking difference from the green model is that the teeth are not as evenly developed as the old model, ie the larger teeth are larger and the smaller teeth are smaller. Overall it is a new head on the old body with new brown paint. Mine was bougth in Sweden.
Yes, you are right, when we were briefed by Papo sometime ago, we were told that apart from the colour change the models would be identical but there are some subtle differences, other collectors have made this some point, one of my colleagues did note the difference in the dentition, but we were a little surprised when this information started to come through as we did not expect any changes in the actual figure. We shall wait and see whether the new juveniles (green and brown) are exactly the same, I have seen these two models myself and I could not tell that there were any subtle differences but I did not have long to examine them as I was in a meeting with Papo staff at the time.
In my first comment I was of course refering to the standing t-rex models. Put the two models side by side for comparison and you will see the difference!
Good point, we will get around to putting up some photos so that other readers can comment on the points that you have made.
